    I just watched half a dozen videos about measuring/bending a main hoop, and yours was by far the easiest to understand. Thanks for taking the time to make this!

    I've been debating on building a rally car out of my 1993 Honda Civic, and I came across your video on how to build a roll cage!! It's funny as hell that I'm not the only one that sees a rally car out of this little hatchback!

    Hi Matt. Did one very similar a copuple years ago. Used some scrap pcs. to bend as templates for the angles with sharpie marks at the bender start points. Drew it all out on the floor and used the templates to determine distances between bend start points. I left 3/4 inch clearence all around for headliner and trim install. In a roll over situation, the factory sheet metal will get bent and squashed anyway. The hoops are there to prevent YOU from getting squashed. Have to say you do excellent work. Love your channel.

    Slight bend in the middle of the main hoop and leave the boxes or plates out so that you can fully weld your halo. Leave the boxes or plates until you finish your upper welds that might be restricted by the roof or roof pillars. Just a thought.

    I can't find a previous video of yours showing why you use the 90 degree bend as a tool for measuring. If you use that 90 with the bend start and bend stop labeled and try to use that to measure the start and stop of a 60 degree bend wouldn't it be a shorter distance?

    Top work, great skills!
    You may have already come across it but I would imagine Curve-o-mark's range of tools would be of use to you, too complicated for my work although I do use the pipe marking tool to accurately cut steel tube with a grinder as well as mark equidistant holes around the pipe.
    I've no experience in notching but it can do that too - not that you appear to be struggling!
    Anyhow, keep the welding videos coming, I'm sick of hearing yanks talk about "FRY THAT STEAK BABY" and "OLD TIMER TEACHES SICK WELDING TECHNIQUE"

    How do you weld the tubing that is flush against the body of the car??? For example at 21:44 , you can see where the connection of tubing is flat up against the body ... how can you sneak the welding torch / nozzle back inside there? Is it just left unwelded????? A video for tips on those areas would be EPIC!!!!!!

    • @Ryan_1997
      @Ryan_1997 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gota use tig torch with flex neck, gas lens, stubby cups with long tungsten stick out for those types of areas.
      Mig torch won't be able to reach in those tight areas since some necks don't bend.
      Usually other fabricators cut out the bottom floor were the plate is at on the left side, to weld the overhead tubes. Every builder is different.
      Or he just left it unwelded.

    Amazing vid! I am learning a lot from you, thank you! Following up with a question, why did you make that secondary sharpie mark when measuring the second part of the 28 degree bend @ 7:01 in the center of your 90 degree tube and how does it help that process? Again, amazing stuff man!

    Is that 1.50 diameter tubing?
    I always build everything to pass NHRA 8.50 second 1/4 mile requirements unless it’s an off-road vehicle.
    “The tubing size requirement on 8.50 cages are 1 5/8-inch x . 118-inch mild steel or . 083-inch chromoly.”
    This is for the main components surrounding the driver, everything else can be 1.50”.
    Something to consider. I’m pretty sure this car will never see faster than 8.50 but why not build them that can?
    NHRA website-
    “The tubing size requirement on 8.50 cages are 1 5/8-inch x . 118-inch mild steel or . 083-inch chromoly.
    Keep up the good work!

  • @bigunone

    A much easier way is to get an electricians conduit level that has a thumb screw that you mount on the end of your pipe as long as it is level all your bends will be on the same plane and you don't have to worry about it falling off

What do you think of the evo saw? I'm about to buy something but considering that or one of the femi NG table top bandsaws.

    • @Urchfab
      @Urchfab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Yeh its ok for a cheap saw, the blades are really expensive and its really easy to ruin the blades if what your cutting slips. I had a look at the makita version of the same thing which looks a lot better. I would probably buy that if I was buying another one.

    • @joeshaft
      @joeshaft 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Urchfab yeh the 12" Makita was also on my list for consideration. Toolstop are doing a bit of discount on it with 2 blades but it's still 450. But buy once cry once eh. We did use one of those evos in a previous job but as you say the blades seem expensive and I have had bad experience with their ordinary saw blades going blunt so so easy and crap tungsten inserts that are so weedy they can't be sharpened again.

    Hi Matt
    Great video. Very informative (like all your videos)
    I read in another comment that you use seamless CDS. I’m looking for tubing here in Denmark and the only tubing I seem to be able to get is E235+C. It meets the MSA requirements but it only has an elongation property of 6%. I’m a bit worried it is to low. What grade of CDS do you use?
    Best regards

      Anthony Aguiar lol ur bad at geometry. 62 + 118 = 180. 180 being a straight angle. So you are reading the angles in reverse lol.
