They're not picking the best for the jobs, they're picking workers more and more based on skin and pronouns - the same sorts of hiring methods that long ago ruined the actual comic book side of Marvel (seriously, the creators there are vastly terrible now and spend far too much of their time begging for money and complaining on X). The worst part is how this is the best version of the Movie, they had a lot redone and they decided this is the best it could be... makes you wonder how awfull the first attempts must have been
The plot was that they needed to take resources from other worlds to make the Kree planet habitable. The baddie was choosing planets that meant something to Captain Marvel for revenge since it was her fault the planet was in that position in the first place. It was a loose plot but it was there. All of the other things surrounding it were extras.
Just saw on Disney +. It was ok. Not nearly as bad as everyone claims. I know this sounds insane BUT Dar Ben's plan made more since then Thanos 😮😮😮 Dar Ben was gathering resources to preserve her own planet. Thanos was destroying half of all life indiscriminately... Even though 😮😮😮 Ebony Maw seems to have tree powers. You think the Maw would have explained to Thanos how SUPER WEEDS WORK 😅😅😅 Thanos plan should have been to increase resources... But to to make conflict it could have been to destroy super weed species (like humans). That would have made Thanos' plan the same as Ultrons!!! The indiscriminate 50% thing is just dumb. . . Even dumber than Dar Ben 😮 😮😮
I love that one. My thoughts exactly. Disney+ ruined Marvel. There's too much content and I hear it's hard for the writers to keep up with what needs to connect to what movie/tv show now.

If you have Disney+, watch the first few minutes for yourself, decide if it's entertaining, then either continue to watch it or go do something else. You too may be pleasantly surprised.
This is why Jeremy Jahns is one of my favorite reviewers. He gives some nice compliments but is not afraid to speak out his honest thoughts. Plus he's very entertaining compared to current day MCU.
This is why we most likely wont be seeing a review of this movie from Chris Stuckmann. He only reviews movies that he likes. His reasoning is that as a filmmaker, he doesnt want to criticize other filmmakers. While this is admirable and understandable, it makes his reviews somewhat predictable bc we know that if he releases one, it's going to be positive. Part of me wishes he would still be open to expressing negative reviews, but if he doesn't release a review of this film, it's safe to say he didn't like it.

I'm amazed that they never brought back Ultron, at all. He's the easiest one to justify coming back after you supposedly kill him (and that's his whole MO in the comics), but no, they'll just recycle Loki, Thanos, and even knockoff Ronan.
I feel like they should have taken a nice long hiatus after Endgame to truly gather the resources and make a solid plan for the next phase. However, well...we all see what we got.
Shut up, for the love of god they've been slowly showing us Kang and the timelines this entire time and tying everything in. None of you bandwagoners were here during phase 1 until the Avengers, you don't know how comparatively quiet things were until the first big team up (which in this case is going to be Thunderbolts).
Movie was fun to watch - just finished watching it. The plot was definitely uneven and a bit janky though. Iman Vellani was definitely the heart of the movie. It wasn't about using powers. It is about using powers simultaneously which as why Carol told Kamala not to use her powers when she was trying to save the Skrulls
I'm very excited to see the box office results after this weekend. I'm guessing it's catastrophic. I'm guessing it's not the reviews that will get Disney's attention but how much money they've wasted.
Personally, I think that they knew it was gonna bomb leading up to its release, but because it's been in development since the first Captain Marvel, they sunk way too much money into the project and had no choice but to release it in theatres (as evidenced by the multiple delays of the film)
Indeed, that would send a strong message. But they definitely care about reviews, too; otherwise they'd not have made Rotten Tomatoes change its entire ratings system just to prop up the Captain Marvel movie, lol. I mean, "Ms Marvel" was a flop, but Disney still kept touting it as the highest rated MCU show on RT. And so far "The Marvels" is one of their lowest rated movies by critics, in the same sphere as bombs like "The Eternals" and "Quantumania". So I think they'll be paying attention to that as well as the money made (or not made).
Most Disney Exec doesn't care, as long as they can push their agenda and they get enough salary, Investor .... that's different story, too bad these Investors still can't push Disney to change.

@@ox_trueprotagonistchrisred9085 Villain's planet was dying. So using jump points, villain siphons resources from other planets to rejuvenate her own planet. Because Captain Marvel ruined her planet, villain specifically targets the planets that mean something to the captain as a way of revenge. Incidentally, the way villain creates jump points made the three heroes start switching powers if two of them used them simultaneously. Personally, I think it was good fun. I really do feel for iman. She's a huge marvel fan who's very passionate about the comics & films so her joining the MCU right when it's experiencing a downfall is sad. I hope she gets paired up with better writers next time.
thats the sad part with waiting to add the more diverse characters now that the MCU's MO is dropping tons of content so it feels empty and lame. They waited like 11 years to focus on a singular female or POC hero movie, and are now trying to cram them all in as the overall narrative sucks so that they can call criticism of bad storytelling sexist or racist.
The MCU falling from where it was still gives it a lot of room and still puts it above a lot of what else is out there. Even the MCU's worst movies weren't objectively bad; just average.
lol dont bother. Iman was 4 months old when SpiderMan came out. 5 years old when Iron Man debuted. 9 for The Avengers. Get the point? She'll never be able to access the same gravitas that 43yr old RDJ did for Iron Man, because she's 21 and has had the MCU in her pocket her whole adult life. Easiness doesn't create passion. Studios need to recognize that all the grown men who made the MCU profitable are not interested in 21 year old girls starring in action movies, that's why we're not paying to see this or anything like it. Look at the top 30 highest grossing action films of all time: EVERY one of them has a strong male lead, because grown men pay to see other grown men act in a way we respect. We don't pay to see kids with no life experience fail to carry the mantle of grown men. RDJ was the backbone of everything that worked about the MCU, and RDJ worked because men respected him, he paid his dues in real life. I don't know who this Iman is, I don't look up to her, I don't care to see her do action, and there are millions of me.
it's funny because when you start to read one of their comics , it follows the same steps of becoming overwhelmingly repetitive and uninspired. It's at the start where everything feels grounded and believable , and story moments actually impact you, i still remember watching the Ironman Trilogy back then and having this general sense of mystery to it , everything was revolving around earth , military and the sort. It wasn't some intergalactic threat or Multi-verse villain , it was just humans vs humans and so much of it felt relatable. Now it feels like you're watching an actual comic book move on the big screen......which isn't the most exciting thing nowadays. Basically , my point is everything in the MCU feels so.... meaningless and pointless now.
Well tb;dw (too boring didn't watch) The first post credit scene is about Kamala tracking down Kate Bishop and is planning to do a Young Avengers initiative with her (also they're planning to recruit Stratue/Cassie Lang next). The second post credit scene is when Monica woke up in a hospital after being "trapped" in the other universe. Beast was there as her doctor and also her mom is alive and probably a mutant. Also Charles was mentioned so i figured that the X-Men has already been established in that universe but we still don't know whether it's Patrick Stuwart's Charles or someone younger.
Finally saw The Marvels and it was just fine. It feels like everyone is acting like everything pre-end game was gold. This movie was middle of the pack. The cat scene was weird, but apparently it hit because my 65 year old dad was laughing his ass off. Ms. Marvel was definitely the best part of the movie.

You're right. And that's interesting. This movie and many like it for the past few years occupy two different spaces. One is entertainment, the other is social politics. Because this movie has pretty much an all female cast, writers, and director. Some feel as though giving it a negative review is somehow sexist. Many movies that make it a point to advertise the identity of the actors instead of the quality of the story usually fall flat on their face. This seems to be no different.
Yeah, the people who can't accept any valid criticism just because of who is associated with the project is like an 8 year old mindset. But these are the more radicalized people who regardless of logic and common sense will do everything in their power to die on the weakest hill of all time.
Almost as good as when she got fired in the post-credits scene and, as she longingly looked at the studio one last time, she said "I'm really gonna miss Marvel..."
Iman Vellani is great, and you can tell she's not only very passionate about Ms. Marvel, but Marvel Comics as a whole. Hope she still has a promising future playing the character, even if this movie is disappointing.
First-time commenter. Just had to say how much I loved the "woof" punch-slap at the end. It is a wonderful expression of both the fatigue Marvel audiences are experiencing and the half-hearted effort Marvel Studios appears to be giving.
Think one reason is also cuz they r trying to do soooo much with the movies and tv shows. Like in the beginning it was "hey we have this vision (avengers film) but lets focus on making one really good film after another so we can build up to that". Whereas now its more focused on the "idea" of things rather than the quality of things (at least a lot of the time). Its kind of similar to the dceu issues where they were more focused on the idea of the justice league than the thought of just making good films in order to get there. Now its mostly just "hey, look at all the different worlds and blah blah blah" instead of going "hey we have this really cool idea, but lets try and make the best quality stuff first".
I think I was only getting behind this because of Iman as the more emotional centre of the team. I don’t remember the villains name (even after hearing it in this video) but I remember how Kamala’s reactions to events in this movie. But I can say if I needed a dumb action movie to have on in the background, it’s a good fit. I can check in and out and not miss much that would have made it too hard to understand.
It’s incredible. Any time I see a trailer, poster, or review for The Marvels, I have the same reaction of “Oh shit! I forgot they’re making another Captain Marvel.” Usually followed up with a long pause and a “Why?” Gotta give Marvel credit there. I have the exact same energy every time I think about this movie. That’s not something that happens often.
the thing is how are the marketing team or whoever checks the public interest NOT AWARE that the literal only reason that movie wasnt a flop was because it was strategically positioned between IW and Endgame (if I'm not mistaken it was literally the last movie before endgame). I went to watch with 5 or 4 friends when it came out and all of us were having shots before and during the movie because we knew it was really bad.@@ThePunk01
I think Iman is probably the only thing remotely good about the movie. And I think its exactly what you said. She genuinely is a fan and is passionate about the character.
I think most people liked Iman in this role and I wish her the best for her future. Hopefully she gets gigs outside Marvel because she's super talented
But she's a D list character. The Ms Marvel show was the lowest rated disney+ show until Secret Invasion came along. So not many people watched that show because Marvel keeps introducing D list characters and thinking fans want to see them. She may have played the role well but it's not a character the majority of fans care about. The ratings of her show and the box office for the Marvels shows that.

Usually I agree with a lot of Jeremy’s views, but this happens to be one of the few where we disagree. While not without some obvious flaws, I had a lot of fun watching this one. Main flaws would be a forgettable villain (though her actual “villainous” scheme was pretty neat) and the “furry” sidequest which I think actually provided nothing at all to the story other than giving the supporting cast something to do? But like I said, I had a really fun time watching it, probably the most fun Marvel movie of the year for me (though I think GotG 3 is the best Marvel movie of the year)
I just watched it this afternoon. I had fun with it and I must say that it as more to do with Iman Vellani's acting. She is sweet and funny an acts like a teenager put in her situation, even though the actress herself is 21 now. The cats thing and the singing aliens - I could have done without. Villain was terrible but the two adult leads were not great either.
Here's my theory: they thought Gunn cracked the space setting code with GotG, and goofy shit like the singing aliens feels like the movie trying to xerox that vibe. I think this was the thought process behind bringing in TW to Thor since those were going to be cosmic adventures. But I think these directors aren't invested at all in this material the way that Gunn was and that reflects in choices they make and in what they find funny (their instincts leaning parodic/meta).

The worst part is how this is the best version of the Movie, they had a lot redone and they decided this is the best it could be... makes you wonder how awfull the first attempts must have been
Knowing how bad marvel’s decision making has been since endgame… the original versions was probably better than what we got. 😂
I had fun with the movie.
Could also be that the earlier versions would have been much better
The plot was that they needed to take resources from other worlds to make the Kree planet habitable. The baddie was choosing planets that meant something to Captain Marvel for revenge since it was her fault the planet was in that position in the first place. It was a loose plot but it was there. All of the other things surrounding it were extras.
in other words it was dumb as hell
Just saw on Disney +. It was ok. Not nearly as bad as everyone claims.
I know this sounds insane BUT Dar Ben's plan made more since then Thanos 😮😮😮
Dar Ben was gathering resources to preserve her own planet. Thanos was destroying half of all life indiscriminately... Even though 😮😮😮 Ebony Maw seems to have tree powers. You think the Maw would have explained to Thanos how SUPER WEEDS WORK 😅😅😅
Thanos plan should have been to increase resources... But to to make conflict it could have been to destroy super weed species (like humans). That would have made Thanos' plan the same as Ultrons!!! The indiscriminate 50% thing is just dumb. . . Even dumber than Dar Ben 😮 😮😮
And she was drawing Carol out to consume her power into the bracelet
“MCU needs to take a break” might be the best possible way to summarize the situation. Alternatively “Go home Marvel. You’re Drunk.”
MCU had been dead since Endgame, Marvel can still make movies, but why must they be connected?
I love that one. My thoughts exactly. Disney+ ruined Marvel. There's too much content and I hear it's hard for the writers to keep up with what needs to connect to what movie/tv show now.

Wrt the swap thing, I was confused at first why they didn't swap at times, but I think it was shown after a while that the swap only happens when two characters use their powers simultaneously. Not sure if that would fix the plothole though
They literally say at one point, i think it was during the training montage, that they switch when using their powers at the same time.
Yea the movie was by no means good, but feel the poorness of it had Jeremy check out.

I avoided watching this movie because everyone spoke so negatively about it. Then I decided to watch it to understand the hate. And I really enjoyed it. I didn't need it to be brilliant or mysterious or anything like that. I just thought it was fun. If you have Disney+, watch the first few minutes for yourself, decide if it's entertaining, then either continue to watch it or go do something else. You too may be pleasantly surprised.
Jeremy, you’re quite literally the GenX - Pop Culture film critic version of Richard Lewis! It’s awesome (that’s a total compliment btw).

I'm very excited to see the box office results after this weekend. I'm guessing it's catastrophic. I'm guessing it's not the reviews that will get Disney's attention but how much money they've wasted.
I think it will dropped hard in the second weekend due to The Hunger Games
Personally, I think that they knew it was gonna bomb leading up to its release, but because it's been in development since the first Captain Marvel, they sunk way too much money into the project and had no choice but to release it in theatres (as evidenced by the multiple delays of the film)
The only thing studios care about is the money

Villain's planet was dying.

Feel bad for her? She is making millions of dollars, she is doing fine.
@@electron_shellsadly there are millions of you
nice Dr Cox line sir! Major props for working it in there.
it's funny because when you start to read one of their comics , it follows the same steps of becoming overwhelmingly repetitive and uninspired. It's at the start where everything feels grounded and believable , and story moments actually impact you,
i still remember watching the Ironman Trilogy back then and having this general sense of mystery to it , everything was revolving around earth , military and the sort.

Wow. Like your comment. Very well observed - and very well put in words. You're a good observer, and you're good with words.

And fast forward to now and she’s in the movies with them. I’m not surprised she was the best in it. She seems like a great kid. Shame she came on when things are trending downward for Disney lol.
She’s entertaining imo, Just unfortunately gets bad writing, Ms Marvel was pretty good imo till they brought the group of people trying to destroy the world or whatever halfway through
I hate how they direct her character
Teenagers are really emotionally smart compared to where they were/we all were in the early 2000s. She's always screaming and way to "fangirling". Didn't she fight a lot of people in her own story? I don't think she'd be screaming "omgggg".
@@reecelee5218In her original books she usually just wore Capt. MARVEL merch and she was more of an Iron Man fan by the end of it. So they do butcher her character a bit.
Summing up Phase IV and V as "Post Endgame MCU DLC" is just perfect.
The Dr. Cox reference at 2:30 was perfect
It's from Office Space I think. But yes, the actor who plays Dr Cox. 😁
Glad I was to busy to hit the local theater this week to view!
Thank you for always giving your honest opinion.
Thank you for valuing your viewers over the potential perks of giving a positive review.
Thank you for not gaslighting us by saying we’re just not sophisticated enough to understand what the director was trying to accomplish.
Thank You!!
Thank you for taking the time to thank him in our behalf.

Phase 5 being the 'post Endgame dlc' is the perfect way to put it
That was phase 4 though?
@@HeroicJei Maybe? I don't keep track anymore. Endgame just felt like the natural end-point for me personally. And when these new phase movies get mediocre reviews as well I don't care that much anymore, despite the fact that I saw the movies leading up to Endgame multiple times.
love your look/hairstyle unique.
Just saw movie on Disney +. It was ok. Not as bad as everyone made it seem.
Every review for this movie praises Iman Vellani.
Kinda feels like theres a concerted effort to review bomb Disney and people feel a need to apologize to Vellani as collateral damage...
Fun fact: the planet where people sing instead of talk thing was done in the original Transformers cartoon from the 80's. The episode is Season 3's Carnage in C Minor, and it is almost universally regarded as the worst episode in any Transformers media. Including the Bay films.
Don’t remind me…
Screw you for making me remember that episode.
Wow. I forgot about that entirely.
It's on TH-cam in its entirety and I'm saving it to watch it high later.
I love how his name is "grimlockprime"! :D Seriously. And also, I loved Transformers G1 (as a child), but I actually can't remember ever seeing the "Carnage in C Minor" episode. There's probably a good reason for that, lol.
I dont think you can have a least favourite MCU Villain because because in order for that to happen you have to remember them and so far they've done such a good job at making them practically nothing like their comic book counterparts that I honestly just forget them...
Like 99% of MCU villains are so uninteresting because they just kill them off anyways before they actually get interesting.
Ultron, Ego, Thanos... yep thats all I can name.
@@justinlizamor1541I had forgotten Ego
Loki, Ultron, Thanos
😂😂😂
@justinlizamor1541 who is Ego?
Preach bro just watched the movie and came to TH-cam to see a review and just to make sure I wasn’t tripping
Dude, you are killing it. Your best review yet.
The MCU is collapsing on itself like a Jenga tower of unpopular characters and fleeing talent.
Hopefully Iman isn’t hurt by this - and she continues to build a strong career because she is a delight
I normally think your spot on, but everyone is hating on the marvels not perfect, but the Beastie Boys montage was great memories with cats was hilarious and why is everyone beating up this poor movie?
That Brilliaaant!!!! in the back,I need this guy as a co-worker
there is no "deep dive" on Dar Benn. The character appeared twice, did nothing, was killed. Giving the name to the villain in the movie was just corporate making sure they don't have to pay extra royalties to anyone for creating an original character.
the grill on her teeth is just cringe and bad, is she from "da hood"?
Yeah just looked Dar Benn in the comics is ass.
MCU has been on the decline for a while. This movie really feels like the one that’s gonna stick the dagger in it.
The title of “Endgame” is fitting.
This is the one where they can't deny it anymore because it's going to have a major financial impact. While a lot of the post-Endgame films underperformed, this is the first one that is an outright flop at the box office.
@@unc54 can't wait to see everyone cumming in their pants in the next 12 months when all the announcements start coming out and all of you fake fans coming sprinting back praising MCU.
Loki Season 2 is the only thing giving me hope for Phase 5.
Genuinely curious how they’re gonna handle “Sabra” the Israeli superhero.. when the person who wrote it also wrote the “you gotta stop calling em terrorists” speech 😬
Best reviewer in media today. Boom.
That board room bit? 😂😂😂😂💯💯💯💯
I like how Jeremy tries to make sense of a dying franchise that not even its creators can't make sense of anymore.
When was the MCU's 'Jump the shark' moment?
They haven't had one. Jump the shark is when you've escalated things so far that you need to do ridiculous over the top nonsense to try and build on it. The MCU has just you know, stuck a chick in it and make her gay and lame. But like, two dozen times. @@pigeonpoo1823
@@pigeonpoo1823 Anything after 'Endgame ' with the exception of Spider-Man. They really should have quit while they were ahead.
Only thing after endgame that's honestly worth it is guardians and spiderman
Can we just appreciate Kamala’s casting? Iman Vellani is just pitch perfect as Ms Marvel. I think soon enough she’ll join the hall of fame of perfect castings like RDJ as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, etc.
I hope she does join them but she needs to be in movies that were as great as the characters mentioned
Echoing the other commenter, i have never seen her. So i do not doubt you, but she needs to be in worth while content first
Lol good one 😂
@@KoolMB 😏 iykyk
Usually I agree with a lot of Jeremy’s views, but this happens to be one of the few where we disagree. While not without some obvious flaws, I had a lot of fun watching this one. Main flaws would be a forgettable villain (though her actual “villainous” scheme was pretty neat) and the “furry” sidequest which I think actually provided nothing at all to the story other than giving the supporting cast something to do? But like I said, I had a really fun time watching it, probably the most fun Marvel movie of the year for me (though I think GotG 3 is the best Marvel movie of the year)
Oh No! looks like megamaid changed it's settings from Suck to Blow 🤣😆
I honestly forgot about the singing. Does it still take up 1/3 of the movie like the rumors suggest?
@@crazycockatoo5816 They cut a lot of the singing part from the final film because of the bad reception to it in screenings.
In my opinion, this is the best episode yet. I'd sell my soul to see him do that Disney skit with Ryan George!
Damn you value your tour soul very little king
Ahhh nice Office Space reference. "What is it ya do here" 😂
Great review 🫡
