The Marvel Cinematic Universe is relentlessly pushing out content both in movie theatres and on Disney+. Their latest combines characters from Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, Wandavision and more.
The Marvels definitely raises some questions. Like how are they still making villains like this? Isn’t that the same plan as in Spaceballs? Why did Monica not try to fix the space-time hole from our side? Captain Marvel is so powerful she can reignite suns? What was up with that singing planet?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Marvels!

So funny with the smirk too😂😂😂
I don't get that part. Didn't they oppress the skrulls and other people in the first movie? They're the bad guys. What they were suffering from is just a consequence of their malice and illwill. Why does Carol have to be guilty with ending their Supreme Intelligence. And how does the destruction of their entire planet and their dying sun correlate directly to Carol's actions? I don't get it.
…Please tell me that’s not an actual line in the movie. I’ll believe you if you say yes, since I watched Quantummania the other day and saw Modok’s motivation, but I’ll still be disappointed.
@@captainrocket9915 no, it's Ryan's line
It really do have been like that.
I love how absolutely everyone picks up on the incredibly obvious plot thread of "oh, so Kamala is disappointed in her hero, this could be interesting". Everyone... except Marvel.
I mean, she had a whole thing with that in Civil War 2 in the comics, where she hated Carol being pro-Minority Report and felt betrayed by her hero. That's really a major issue for her and ends up kickstarting her growth into leaving the Avengers and helping form the Champions. If they are going to keep with Ms. Marvel being a major player in later phases, they are going to need to start laying the groundwork for her (and other younger heroes) feeling the older heroes aren't being very heroic anymore.
My question is... WHY THE HECK is Capt. Marvel Kamala's hero? According to the timeline, Capt. Marvel has never been to Earth during Kamala's life except for a few seconds bringing Stark to Earth...
You see the reason is BECAUSE...
I don't know what to say, but it is actually a legitimate question, maybe they answered it in the show probably.

For me Marvel peaked with Endgame. I did like No Way Home, Multiverse of Madness, and Wakanda Forever but Phase 4 was all over the place and Phase 5 hasn’t started out on the best note with all the drama and court case for Majors. What they need to do now is focus on the X-Men and Fantastic 4, or just take a page out of the DC playbook and do a reboot of everything. That way you could start out with the Fantastic 4 and X-Men be the jumping off point while they introduced the rebooted MCU
"I let my 4 year old take a crack at some of these scenes" is a good description of how the Marvels was made tbh
dammit! you stole my comment!!! LOL!!
There are some goofy parts, yes. But generally it would be unfair to label the whole script in this way. It's a way better/coherent/fun/smooth movie than Love and Thunder and Quantumania. Definitely not something terrible like the Secret Invasion either.

@@vicefandonna1575 FR. Just a big missed opportunity to do something cool and show off the variety of space and how their culture affects their way of life beyond just jokes.
You could have also made it so that on the planet there's a bunch of people who just play instruments all day. Perhaps have a gag where one of the musicians sings "Hey, what key are we in?" or the singers indicating a key change by stopping in the middle of a conversation to announce "E-Minor," and then then musicians reposition their fingers/hands for the change.
Perhaps even have a grumpy musician who's trying to eat his lunch but he's compelled to play his instrument, so he tries to eat his spaghetti as he plays.
Just having them all sing, until they don't, is the lamest execution of the concept.

I love how Thor had to get to a station fully reliant on a dying star and he had to re-energize the station to start the process of revitalizing the dwarf star and it almost killed him but then Captain Marvel is like yeah so I'll just like, glow really hard and reignite a star.
Which would be fine if there was any point in her character arc where you felt like the character kind of earned her godlike powers, or if her powers and limitations were somewhat better explained, or anything that typically makes a superhero’s powers interesting.
Like Thor has godlike powers but he has to be worthy. He can lose them. He can become more powerful but only through effort and personal growth. So when he recharged a dying dwarf star, you think “oh wow, I bet Thor from the first movie couldn’t have done that, he’s really come a long way.”
With Captain Marvel it’s just like, “Of course she can do that, she’s has the power of being a feminist virtue signal. Her only weakness is is that she has none while men have so many.”
@@DanDaniel-sx6iq Lol. Whereas Superman gets that kind of power because *checks notes* the sun exists.
@@jvomkrieg 😂😂😂 Yeah but it's been established for a really long time that Superman is basically a Kyrptonian who took Solar Steroids growing up, like the relationship between Solar Energy and his Superpowers is baked deep into his lore, so Superman getting God Powers from the Sun is just an extension of pre-existing backstory and is internally narratively existent.
I think it works, if and only if, they stars were dead for different reasons.
It was implied the Kree killed their star in their civil war so it could have been more autostart then breathing life into the dying embers to revive a fire that is almost out of wood which would normally be the case for a naturally dying star.
Was not explained well in the movie, but could be done so makes sense Thor had issues with a similar task.
@@jvomkriegFunny you should mention Superman, because If I'm not mistaken there's a story arc for Supes where in he actually flyes too close to the sun saving some astronauts or something and gets, idk super solar cancer or something, it sounds dumb but was just a convenient way to kill him.

The reason why MCU films suck has nothing to do with female actors, female directors or male audiences. The scripts suck! Weak plot lines, bad dialog and no back story to let audiences become invested in the characters.
With The Marvels, I left the theatre when Nick Fury yelled, "BLACK GIRL MAGIC!" +Double Face Palm+ The toughest non-superhero in Marvel-verse reduced to a cat-holding simp. At least I was saved from singing planet.
But, between that Irritable Bowel Syndrome inducing movie and now I was led to the show 1883 and I discovered that great acting and scripts still exist. That strong men and strong women CAN exist in the same show. Sam Elliot, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Isabel May with fantastic supporting actors and cameos by Tom Hanks and Billy Bob Thornton restored my faith. Just the first four minutes of Ep One of 1883 made me want to binge watch all ten episodes. Then I followed the Dutton family and binge watched 1923 with Harrison Ford and on to Yellowstone with Kevin Costner.
I have no idea why Disney takes stupid plots, idiot dialog and tries to wrap those around characters no one knows nor cares about. Doesn't ANYONE at Disney read this crap before they shovel hundreds of millions into the crapper?
Because its like taking a stab at a piece of paper. Stab one side, and theres a hole, with remnants of the paper being whole on the other side. If you want to fix it and tape it, you gotta push those wrinkles back to being flat with the paper. Same logic here. Dar Benn punched a whole through space-time, and to close it, you got to "punch" it from the other side and push the broken pieces back together
@@gajaan316I’m almost entirely certain that isn’t how space-time works.
Furthermore, they never established those being the rules, even in this fictional universe so it’s really not worth bending over backwards to find a way to justify their plot holes.
I love how you make me realize things I didn't when watching the movie
"Shouldn't Emilia Clark's character from 'Secret Invasion' be switching with them too?"
"Hey, shut up"
Also "My space balls are TIGHT!"
The best call here for sure. Disney should just delete Secret Invasion from D+ and pretend it didn't happen
I mean the Emilia Clarke thing was because she didn't touch one of the space rifts caused by the bangle nor did she have a bangle. It's just a joke..
I REALLY don't get why people are saying "light powers=teleport mayhem". Its CLEARLY because all 3 of them touched the weird glitch jumpoints in space. Carol touched the one on that one planet, Monica touched the one on Earth, and Kamala literally has the Quantum Band (the McGuffin that created jumpoints in Kree legends). As for why Dar-Benn doesnt teleport, she had it off of her while meeting with the Skrulls, while the scientists looked into it
@@gajaan316 Despite Fury asserting the light based powers thing was a "strong theory" I think it's all wet. Monica and Carol both touched the jump points, while Kamala was wearing one of the quantum bands (which in inherently linked to the other band). Dar-Benn wasn't wearing one at the time, and even if she was, she doesn't have innate powers. It's enough for comic-book style quantum entanglement as the quantum bands can open jump points. They're just micro-sized, and open when there is energy on both sides (via using their powers).
I can also buy the energy overload that killed Dar-Benn was enough for the quantum bands to overload the entanglement and turn it off.
I believe the actual reason why only those three were switching was because the three of them, in some time of the comics, was Captain Marvel.

It's weird I haven't cared about Marvel movies for years, but I just can't skip these takedowns.
Did it never occur to Carol to try to reignite the sun with her powers before? Especially when it took like a minute?
Wouldn't work without learning the Powers of Friendship
Maybe she worried it would kill her, like it did in the comic "Captain Marvel: The End"
She didn't think she could do something like that
@@Omegeddon I dunno Monica figured it out pretty fast. Also I'm surprised Monica and Kamala didn't give Carol more grief over dooming an entire planet and most likely resulting in massive innocent deaths.
@BOGDAN SERBAN Nah, I'd prefer it if Rogue steals her powers like she did in the 90s cartoon & puts Larson's sorry ass in a coma... least then we might get a half-way decent character.
3:12 "Hollaback girl!" 😂 So Gwen Stefani exists in the MCU?
That's bananas!
Yes. Since Captain Marvel
No, but Spider Gwen Stefani might..
I think this is the most confused I've been after watching a Pitch Meeting. I have no idea what happens in the movie except for a few disjointed scenes.
But somehow I feel that's not Ryan's fault...
same... wtf is happening? 🤣
I love how they seemed to have taken an idea from Spaceballs, which was deliberately written to be stupid as fuck for comedic purposes, and made her try to steal the air from another planet... that's the only thing I was able to decode here.
He mentions needing to watch 16+ hours of content just to understand the movie. Trust me, it's definitely not his fault.
@@ZenMonkeyGodhe mentions it, sure.
It's completely wrong, tho. Hell, the movie retcon secret invasion so hard that watching secret invasion just make it worse
We can't even be sure if secret invasion happens before or after this movie at this point.
Apparently you're in about the same place as people who did see the movie.
I have not seen the movie but that still was one of your funniest pitch meetings, you are a treasure, Ryan!
"I'm gonna bring Holla back, Girl!" had me cracking up so hard hahaha. I don't know how, but you really manage to constantly improve your writing STILL. Absolutely phenomenal. I love it.
At that line, how many people started singing that song in their head (or out loud)?
Fortunately, their ship is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Uh huh, this my shit
YEEEEESS!!!!!
@@Deborita777 Not me! But that's because I don't know the song. I mean, I know of it, and maybe heard the chorus or whatever, but I never listened to the whole thing.
I'll just never get tired of watching these two guys
Just hope they never break up and feud.
@@markellis3036 probably not. they are twins. they will always come back together.
They are just…the best
@@alwaysthisnicknames
They’re not twins!!! They’re not even related at all🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ sheesh! You think everyone just looks alike don’t cha? 🤣🤣
It's a doomed double act, one of them is way more charismatic than the other.
I like how Carol, Kamala, and Monica had that whole montage (the "Intergalactic" sequence) where they learned to "control" and synchronize their switching places and then that never comes into play again and during the final fight they're all still annoyed and surprised by the switching of places instead of using it to their advantage for some really cool "teleporting around and hitting the villain in ways they could never possibly anticipate" choreography. That was the best.
lol, yanno so far as the switching powers thing goes- Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer handled it MUCH better-
For a scene that really capitalize on that concept, watch the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, brotha. You won't be disappointed.
Given re-shoots, script changes, and the like, I'm guessing it's entirely possible that either the scenes occurred in a different order at some point, or the "learning to control" scene simply didn't exist when the fight was shot.
If they had competent writing and fight choreo they really could have done a lot with it. You'd be able to do a bunch of gags. Even for a final fight to introduce more dynamic and tone down how OP carol is; you could have the big bad whats her face also be added to the swapping. Quick gag where carol's swapped and the anticipated photon blast instead nearly hits monica because she switched with the boss due to the bangles being fully activated or something. Quick glances and worry around, big bad throws a one liner gag, and all of them now need to contend with this new variable that they work together to overcome.
I actually gave the movie credit and said "oh, they're practising using their powers, that's cool. At least it'll feel earned when they use them to tag-team the villain at the end." and then the tag-team never really happened. Absolutely awful writing.
That reference to Gwen cracked me up...
3:12 🤣🤣🤣🤣 got me picturing her lip syncing to that track... 😅😅😅😅 The cherry on top was his response 3:15 I could hear the melody... This pitch is 100%
The "Hollaback Girl!" bit was fantastic, how the hell do you keep getting better and better at these?!😆
I was hoping he'd also throw a line in there that featured him saying "No Doubt," a reference to Gwen Stefani's original band.
he gets better and better because the material keeps getting worse and worse
I'm sure for Ryan it is super easy, Barely an inconvenience. Yeah yeah yeah.
At first I heard his Bengals reference as the Bangles (till I realized they're not from Cincinnati) and combined with Hollaback Girl I thought Ryan was really getting into the pop trivia thing all of a sudden!
I'm just praying that wasn't an actual line in the movie.
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed out loud so hard at a pitch meeting as when Ryan said he left his four-year-old daughter write the cat scene
Literally so much of Hollywood these days may as well have been written by 4-year-olds!
I have to say "super easy; bearly an inconvenience" from "Cocaine Bear" has to have had the longest setup for a punchline ever though.
Four-year old A.I., possibly?
Wait - that cat scene was really in the movie?
@@PotrzebieConolly Yeah, all the reshoots were just CGI to cover the CGI buttholes...
continuing to forget the villain's name might be the funniest pitch meeting bit in recent memory

now try that for Dar- Benn in The Marvels :)

why did she not just take the bracelet off?
I really hope "Because that's what I wrote here" becomes another running gag quote lmao. I love how much conviction Ryan said it with.
ANother lazy catchphrase that has to be shoehorned into every video whether it's appropriate or not? Yeah, why not just a whole video of Ryan just saying "Super easy....
The voice when the 4 year old wrote the script is so good, and the scream is so on point. This is one of my most watched Pitch Meetings so far.
I wouldn't be surprised if that happened in real life. When he read that script, I just didn't know why someone couldn't see how ridiculous everything in the movie was!
I actually want a revisit of this pitch meeting. Would be so fun to listen to Ryan's thoughts while making this one.
I think he already forgot.

"I let my 4-year-old take a crack at some of these scenes."
A perfectly logical explanation for this movie's writing quality
"I'm gonna bring Halla back, girl"
"That sounds like it's gonna be tough, it's not just gonna hap-pen like that"
Awesome! 😆
NGL, that pitch was Bananas...
Let's make this pitch meeting have more views this weekend than the movie did! It'll be super easy, barely an inconvenience!
Pitch meetings having more views than the actual movie is tight!
I mean, it already has if you think aboot it(sorry, couldn't hold myself from making fun of the canadians Ryan & George), it already has, 500k+ views
Oh really?
It definitely has more likes...
Remember this is a two step process.
1. Watch the pitch meeting
2. Save yourself time and money and don't watch a dumpster fire, I mean this movie whatever it is named.
To fit SO much into just four minutes... this is art at this point.
Love how all the plot holes are brushed off with a quick "oh hey shut up!" 😂
Pitch Meetings are likely to become the only way I watch Marvel movies at this point.
Anything Disney touches.
That Hollaback Girl line was genius! I love it when you slip in clever, easily missable jokes like that.
“Oh my Spaceballs are tight.” 😂 best line in a long time
My favorite part is where Captain Marvel says.
“Super Easy”, and then barley inconvenienced herself all over everyone
Lol
😂😂😂
This was so hilarious and so spot on about the villain. That was literally the first thing I was asking myself 5 minutes after the movie ended “who was the bad guy again?”
Yeah - the villain was…. Uh…. Definitely there. And generic - more generic than ever!
If you paid to watch this garbage you are a fool.
It was a great call back to the first movie. Can you name Jude Law's character?
@@charlottecorday8494 He was…Gigolo Joe? 🤣
Why is no one talking about how she looked like a black Emilia Clarke??? It would've been a mind fuck if Gaia was in this movie, considering the history b/w the Kree and Skrulls.
Reading the plot lines like a kid wrote them was genius. Bravo.
"..let my 4 year old take a crack at this.." BEST explanation of the weirdness, but fun, in the movie.
y'know, first time I watched this, I honestly thought he was changing Darben's name the whole time. lol
All these years of watch Ryan and I still can't predict what he'll bring up in pitch meeting. Really was betting he'd mention so much time spent on a friendship training montage only for it to fail immediately but then with no additional training work flawlessly for the climax.
That’s just the classic formula for training montages in the last 3 decades of pop cinema.
The part with the dancing and space cats and letting your daughter come up with ideas.... brilliant! Had me laughing so hard! 😂
Honestly, in the movie I thought they would use music as a way to time their attack since they need to be in coordination, like they would take a song tempo and make each hero have their beat to use their attacks. It would have made a freaking fun fight scene... but no.
@@gustomucho81 I would watch that as well.

Yes, really!
That super easy set up was better written than most recent Marvel things.
I am 100% aware of what’s happening in phase 4 and 5 without even watching a single min of it thanks to these pitch meetings.
Ryan making himself go through these all for our entertainment is tight!
Love them as always. Thank you Ryan.
Seriously, as someone who was ready to be done after _Endgame_ and essentially was after that, outside of like three or four of these, every review he's done of an MCU show or movie sense that has provided my decision correct. And of those exceptions, _Guardians of the Galaxy 3_ is currently the only one I really want to watch.
I liked Shan-Chi , Spider-Man Far From Home and Spider-Man No Way Home, and for shows Moon Knight. The rest of the Marvel Movies was terrible. @@MusicoftheDamned
Right. Have not seen one single movie from 4 and 5.
@@rcarfang2 _Spider-Man: Far from Home_ was the actual last MCU movie I watched, mostly because I like Jake Gyllenhaal. I overall enjoyed it even if I had multiple issues that included it being the movie that immediately proved that Disney was just going to largely skip over the effects of Thanos's Snap (which admittedly helped further kill my interest in most other MCU movies after that) and the continuation of Tony Stark both dominating the movie, even in death, as well as seeming responsible for like half of the Earthbound villains in the MCU. I did quite like what they did with Mysterio overall despite the latter gripe.
I count _Shang-Chi_ and _Moon Knight_ as some of the few exceptions for myself, but I personally don't plan to ever watch _Spider-Man: No Way Home_ despite liking Spider-Man since I feel like it would most likely just annoy me overall.
Ryan indirectly is a movie reviewer. Saved me from watching some of these movies, too.
This guy’s out here making all kinds of quality content!
Indeed. Unlike Marvel.
Man, I legit had to pause and take a minute I laughed so hard at how you worked 'Holla back girl' into this pitch meeting. Thank you Ryan, needed that today haha
Yeah, it was beautiful.
Shit was bananas
I admire Ryan's willingness to sacrifice his sanity by watching these shows and films to deliver these pitch meetings.
He's the hero we need but don't deserve
I am saving so much money and time w addition of laughter bc of him
He is the only one on TH-cam whose commercials I actually watch at the end of the segment.
Advertisers need to take note.
Yeah must be really tough being entertained for hours on end for a job
This one is actually enjoyable though. It's more like a Ragnarok "what on earth is happening" than a Th4r "what on earth is happening" and it has very positive audience scores (and good critics scores tbf). But there are a few big plot holes and the villain is forgettable marvelly. It won't have remotely been a chore for him though and people who like fun should watch the film anyway lol
More people will see this pitch meeting than the general audiences of many states will ever see the actual movie.
The whole video had me cracking up, and i love the comment section every freaking time! Great communtiy we have here in the Ryanverse
Ryan says it’s hard for us to find the time to watch his videos and yet he just saved us over 2 hours worth of trouble
It's less than 2 hours though
I’d be so much more interested in watching movies from the Spaceballs Universe..
"Spaceballs: The Pitch Meeting" needs to be done ASAP.😂
@@Deborita777what's the point of pointing out inconsistencies and nonsense in a movie when it's the whole purpose of the movie?
It's as funny as explaining a joke.
@@Deborita777 It would be extremely redundant to do that, Spaceballs is literally a joke movie, everything nonsensical in it exist for that specific reason of being nonsensical, their would be nothing for Ryan to explain because its made to be that way already.
Ryan would be spending pretty much a minute just standing there and saying "This movie exist for the sole purpose of making fun of movies and tropes, their is nothing for me to say about it because its pretty much similar to this show, but in movie format."
