If I want an overlander or long travel desert rig, or daily driver GX all fucking day. The build quality and reliability is light years ahead. I sold Jeep. @@trp2413 So true, I do a lot of hiking and I’m always surprised how easy it looks when you take a photo from the top of a mountain, compared to in person.
There’s a trick to it, your camera must be level (the drone can achieve this) and you must have a vertical reference. While trees don’t all grow up vertically the majority do. Matt’s team do a very good job in capturing these shots, a hand held Pro on a gimbal (stabiliser) is a terrific tool for this.
I'm glad you rock crawlers have the skills and equipment to deal with it, so many places in this trip that could have gone wrong. Edge of your seat episode.

@@elmateo487 considering it’s an American spec Land Cruiser Prado with a V8… yes. Full time 4x4, center lock standard, electronic front and rear lockers basically if you have a limited. Phenomenal systems like KDSS from factory for off road use. The only limitation is horrific stock approach and departure angles, which is why I trimmed 5 inches from the front, 3 from the back, 4 on the sides.
The community of GXOR is growing rapidly in America. Plenty of rigs now on 35’s and 37’s that can go anywhere a Jeep can for the most part.
@@elmateo487 “for the most part”. For example my buddies jeep with 100k in mods, where it’s basically not even a jeep anymore and is on 42’s? Sure, no. The average Rubicon or modded jeep driving around? You’re dead wrong. Plenty of content on TH-cam for your viewing. The upper limits of a Jeep is higher for sure, but few can afford to mod the Jeep to a level a Land Cruiser is incapable of reaching.
@@elmateo487 type in GX460 moab. Also again most Jeep owners don’t do that to begin with. It’s a phenomenal off road capable platform period. I’m not saying it’s THE best
@@elmateo487 You’re pussy whipped my dude. You’ll leave in a Jeep and come home in a GX or Toyota when the FCA junk breaks. If you think a Jeep is better at “everything” than a 120 series Cruiser with a superior build quality and 4x4 system you’re a bigger fool than I thought. If I want a pure rock crawling platform Jeep. If I want an overlander or long travel desert rig, or daily driver GX all fucking day. The build quality and reliability is light years ahead. I sold Jeep. It’s not rare for them to blow up or have severe issues within 20k-40k miles. For a GX to not last 400k miles would be rare.
I can only imagine how steep that was in real life, cameras never seem to really capture how steep a hill really is.
If it looks insane on film, it’s ridiculous steep in real life
@@trp2413 So true, I do a lot of hiking and I’m always surprised how easy it looks when you take a photo from the top of a mountain, compared to in person.
You're right there, Nick. It never looks steep on camera.
Black diamond ski runs are sometimes this steep...
I like to crochet while watching you guys do your rescues. This one made my hands sweat, so had to put up my crochet project!
I'm glad you rock crawlers have the skills and equipment to deal with it, so many places in this trip that could have gone wrong. Edge of your seat episode.
Got some pucker factor in this video too:)
Wow that looked so dangerous! Great work guys, glad you’re safe
Keep up the good work Matt love watching you on TH-cam
Totally insane location...totally awesome views. Is there a warning sign at the base of that road...enter at own risk...50% grade !!??? Glad to see that no one was hurt up there. Great drone videography work by whomever.
I love how Lizzie thinks 40-50% humidity is unbearable…. 😇 ❤️
That would be dry where I live - it is 87% right now.
It is when you are used to 5-10%
@@leifvejby8023 I don't think anyone truly "lives" in 87% humidity... you merely exist. (I live in the desert and I do find any humidity above 35% horrible. I do have a point of comparison as I escaped from cuomostan to come here.)
It's way worse in the south than the southwest. I'll take 120 and 2% over 90 and 90 any day. I used to ride my bike all summer long in AZ when I was a kid. No way could I do that in South. I'd have stroke.
@@walterk1221 that's 83% rn where I live
That road gives my stomach butterflies in my recliner.
Matt can drive, and his 4x4 is second to none.
Just watching the folk on foot struggling against that slope while following the vehicles downhill made me anxious. I guess I'll always be a flatlander... Clearly, Matt's Off Road Recovery will go anywhere to "get em' out!"
Once again Matt proves a capable rig NEEDS a capable driver. And fear is NOT a bad thing! Keeps one from getting into too much trouble most days!
Yeah, seems to be a solidly built Lexus. Love the Geolanders, badass tires even if one did lose its' air
As an electrician we drive 8’ ground rods all the time with a small generator and a hammer drill (instead of a sledgehammer)… those rods would make some awesome anchor points for a winch. Might be worth carrying something you can drive into the ground as a mobile anchor point. Even a twist in dog leash anchor (I carry one of those on my 4-wheeler). Just some ideas 👍🏼 good luck
MORR, BleepinJeep, and FabRats!????
On a sketchy recovery???
My week is complete 😂
Best video ever! 💯❤️🐞
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery - we’re coming soon!!!! 🥰
Matt I was literally holding onto my recliner watching this glad you are all safety on level ground 👍
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery Did someone say GOAT? lol
@@GoatOffroad Lol...
It was definitely sketchy, lol. I'd personally never attempt this hill without a well built roll cage.🤙
Just me personally, I'd feel 10x better if Paul was along on sketchy recoveries. The man just says, "We'll figure it out and get'r handled." and I believe him when he says it. Lol
I'm with you. Thought we'd see the yota climb up there. Oh well.
You know it bad if Paul nopes out and walks the trail
Paul is fuckin awesome He's a great ass Father & Husband too - I aspire to be like Paul I'm only 23
This is one of the best channels on TH-cam. Stay safe out there.
That was a pretty technical recovery. Glad you guys made it out without a scratch. I did like the watermelon tree fresheners in Paul's (?) truck. It just added some class to the recovery.
You just don't appreciate how steep and tricky this area is until you see the drone shots...thanks for THAT perspective folks!
Even tracked vehicles or skid steers couldn't be safe going up such a slope my blood pressure spiked watching god bless n keep y'all safe be careful please.
These vids are wearing out my office chair! Scares the Cat when I keep yelling Whoa! Well done by ALL and I never thought I would say it, but impressive Built Lexus. That trail is a Roll Cage Tester. Helmets please.
Matt: Do you use a Dry Sump oiling system on the MorVair? I would think you might starve the pump if you didn't on those steep slopes. Bank and Turn indicator is showing TILT!
Great video! And the scenery is absolutely amazing. Coming from a flatlander I never get sick of seeing it! This might be one of those videos where you have a second version of the entire unedited portion so people could see amazing scenery!
Your videos are amazing. We are watching from Yellowknife, NWT and off-road ourselves here. So great to see these stories and learn. Amazing challenges you keep facing. Your group rocks.
I really appreciate Matt, Paul, their family and crews!!!!
They said Lexus I had a whole different image in my mind until I saw it, looks like he was pretty well prepared and just got unlucky.
Yeah. I was expecting recent RX or some such.
Yeah those Lexus land cruisers are really capable.
In Europe they are sold as Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (J12).
That was not what I pictured when they said Lexus SUV. Then he shows up and the vehicle to be recovered looks as capable as the recovery vehicles. Someone should plant a bunch of trees and rocks across that road, just erase it as a road. It's dangerous to even walk up, you fall over and you could be rolling to the bottom of the mountain. And you know it's even steeper than it looks on camera.
Man you have a crazy job. Turned a hobby into a career nice job dude. So beautiful out there
As crazy as I am no way would I try this trail, to many factors working against you. Awesome recovery and proof y'all are the go to team for such recoveries.
Mainly gravity. 😉
Just as scary as the previous video of this spot! You guys really put your lives on the line time after time and thankfully you've continued to come out unscathed! Let's keep it that way guys!
I really admire that when someone has a good idea you go for it. No room for ego when you're dealing with something like that. Great work!
I’ve watched many of your rescues, and only two have given me genuinely sweaty palms: this one, and the last time you were on this hill. Yikes.
The one where a jeep fell partly into a sinkhole/cavern and he was crawling under it, was the sweatiest for me.
That trail just looks gnarly. I love that Lexus build, that's sweet.
matt! please be carefull
you are a great person and a fabulous saviour to save off roaders who are not trained to be doing this off road stuff. Please just be safe and just do your best to help our inexperienced off roaders ok!
I support all you do and you are worth all of my support!
I kept looking at that horizon to see if you were cheating the severity of the angle. Nope. Zero cheating. That was a legit steep trail!
Yip, I used the trees to check the vertical.
Hey Rudy, on the GX going down hill put it in 4L and 1st gear and turn on the DAC and let go the brake. It works like magic. I think the GX owner didn't realized he could have use the DAC going in reverse to get out of that spot and then going back up hill. Great recovery guys!!!
i agree. the DAC may have been disabled for suspension mods or such.
What is dac
I have a Gx460. It works in reverse?? Good to know!
@@100achillguy7 Downhill assist control.
@@CodeUnknownTV thanks
While I'm not surprised, your crew works together so very well and that is a compliment to you Matthew!!!
The drone view gives the best impression of just how steep that really is...man, I wouldn't have even tried it haha
That was great with the frame of the video as a guide......then I assume Trevor and Lzzy doing a great Michael Jackson front lean. How they kept from just falling over face first is unreal.
To me the best reference were the people walking behind the 'vair in the drone shots.
We have a one or two similar near me, in NM. (Zuni mountains) As much as I'd love to go up them and take some video to continious feed my need to defend my H2, shit is just too risky. Especially when you see souped up SxS's spinning all 4, damn near red lined and just barely creeping. There is so much more to this lifestyle then most people think. Nothing but respect for Matt and his crew for knowing what they are doing.
505 strong 💪
Yes Mstt I get scared too in the long run I think it keeps us safe ! and alive been in situations when Scotia has started rolling under the tyres but just letting it roll Abita then slowly off gas n on brake no bravado acts just calm panic up there !it's all over.
Cheers man Wattie from down under nz 👍
If Matt's scared, then it's freaking sketchy
If it looks bad on video, it's terrifying in person.
Hills always look less on video. That hill looks pucker up scary on video, in real life it would be so much worse.
@@anttiroppola4414 -Yes,,,i agree. It would be so much worser.
What do you mean "there's nothing to catch ya" ??? There's plenty of mostly flat surface to stop you. Sure it's 2000 ft down but ... =)
Its all just magnificent! I live vicariously through you all and that you get to see the most beautiful landscapes on this continent, and do what you all love!! The craftsmanship all of you exude is extremely inspiring!!! Thank you all. My wife and I are continuously amazed at how beautiful this country is!!! J...NJ
Not to many people willing to help these days the way you do. Y'all a good group of family and friends.
When he said Lexus I was imagining like a base RX mom wagon. Didn’t expect that sweetass rig!
It’s actually the same as a Highlander, but with luxury appointments. They’ve become very popular vehicles to turn into rock crawlers.
@@jackhaugh same as 4Runner not Highlander. Highlander is a unibody crossover suv (car based)
@@jackhaugh same as Land Cruiser Prado 120 just lexus in the states
@@jackhaugh highlander lmao? Highlander is a unibody, AWD SUV. Nothing alike. It’s a Land Cruiser Prado. Totally different setup from both of these cars. The suspension is shared with 4runner+FJ Cruiser, but everything else really different. V8 vs V6, full time 4x4 (Limited 4runner has this, no other trim does), body on frame.
When you can see Trevor’s face and the ground in the same shot, you know it’s steep lol
That trail looks scary even on video
There's no BS up that high, you have all earned your stripes and our admiration!
WOW ! That opening caught my eye ! Good morning everybody !
That was intense. I was floored when I saw the Morvair struggling. That hill is no joke...
I’m catching myself holding my breath watching this video from my recliner. Matt said he was scared, but he’s very courageous.
I’m sure this will end up on the LX owners page real quick! That’s a sick build
GX* and it was posted to the group about the same time you commented lol
I don't care how sick the build is, at the end of the day it needed to be rescued.
@@seanworkman431 To be honest, the best 4x4s built will eventually end up being rescued from time to time. The Morrvair didn't have the easiest time either. What's impressive is they actually bothered to use it on something like that instead of just posting pics and driving it on a camp ground to "overland" somewhere.
