Creep is nice when you're parking in a tight parking spot. It lets you creep very slowly while your foot modulates the brake, ready to stop very quickly to keep from hitting something. Using one pedal driving can be a little trickier. If you press too hard on the accelerator pedal, it takes time to move your foot over to the brake to stop quickly. Or, you have to do left foot braking, which can be awkward for many people.
I liked this review. Very good tone and lots of detailed information. I have one as a rental while my Jeep is being repaired and this is the best review of this car that I've come across.
Before buying a Polestar 2, rent one from Hertz. I was seriously considering the Polestar 2 until I spent a few days driving one. Great looks, great power, and great handling, but there wasn't much else going for the vehicle. I found the seats to be uncomfortable, the ride harsh, the interior noisy (road noise), and visibility was poor. The weekend rental fee was money well-spent.
Love the detail in your video Max! Have had my 23’ PS2 for 4 months now and it’s my absolute favorite car I’ve owned. Definitely love yours in the magnesium color with the performance pack! 😊
Max, thanks much for this info. I had my ‘23 P2 for seven months now, and I just learned from you how to activate the auto high beam!😂. I find Google maps and navigation outstanding in the car. I do all my charging on L2 AC at home and in town; all long distance travel is done on my ICE X1. Enjoy your new ride!
Max, thanks for the interesting and informative post. But since you asked for suggestions. What really would be useful, is a full detailed review, on how you're doing your home AC charging. I look forward to seeing it.
When you said opening the front trunk is a strange procedure, then showed us a completely normal procedure for opening a hood I was laughing so hard I almost spilled my coffee.
Yeah but the difference is that you're not really opening the hood of a gas car that often but a frunk is something you might wanna use on a regular basis and this makes it a real pain in comparison to the trunk. I don't really get the decision by Polestar tbh, probably has something to do that this car is sharing parts with other Volvo cars
Any news on ISO 15118 Plug&Charge for this car? Is your AC charging end time accurate? My XC40 Recharge always estimated an end time based on 48 A draw. Any thoughts on getting a frunk carpet without that silly (and space consuming) divider like the ones in Europe?
It's there since I can enroll for Autocharge+ at EVgo stations. Just no Polestar/Volvo collab with EA's backend yet to enable Plug and Charge at their stations. Hopefully will come at some point in the life of the car.
We love our Polestar 2, had it for almost a year and it's been great. I really like the Andriod Automotive OS, was one of the big selling points for me, I've always had andriod phones so it's all logical to me. More apps are available all the time, some good some not. You could show that in a video, how to downlaod new apps, they have a radar weather one now that I like and will be good for summer thunderstorm season!
Awesome video so helpful for a new polestar owner. I love the way Americans pronounce the word button like they are trying to do a "Dick Van Dijk" impression of a British person. Bo'Oh'O'Wa'er
Can't believe after all these years Polestar still hasn't implemented 360 camera and backup camera on the same screen AT THE SAME TIME. If the cupholder situation wasn't a deal breaker enough, that camera implementation would be. They've had so long to fix this and there's no logic or excuse for not doing it....the entire top half of the screen is just black with sensor indicators, literally nobody would say that's a better use of screen space
@@tonys9413 Of course I meant at the same time that's the whole point 🙄 but I edited my comment just for you and anyone else who needs additional assistance with words
I just had a thought come to mind, if I were to park on an incline (let's say a steep San Francisco street), would the regenerative braking in theory be able to hold my car in the same position as parking, and then regenerate at the same time due to gravity? :D
I have a rental now. Keep getting a message on the charger about the cable being locked, and I needed to end charging. I unlocked the cable, a d eventually it started charging, but way slower than the estimated time. Could you get it to work? At this point will NOT rent an EV again! So annoying!!
The car looks better than the model 3 imo; range is a little less, but it is what it is. right now you can find some 21s between 20k-30k range which makes it really affordable imo. however the closest service center is 320 miles away from me, ouch. So if the car needs to be services that is a negative for me especially not knowing how reliable the car is overall. Of course there are vw and tesla service centers about 60-80 miles away from me which is reasonable, but those come in at that price for older models and the newer ones being a bit more pricey.
Been renting a lot of EV cars recently in anticipation of buying one but I've been alarmed by the downsides of EV overstated range, battery loss over time and poor cold weather performance. It's a shame and I will likely start looking at Hybrid options instead. Thanks for the video though
Hertz gave us a polestar on our trip to France and we spent hours every day either looking for compatible chargers (car software is pretty useless) or charging … I would NEVER EVER accept another polestar again! Horrible experience. Since I voiced my opinion so many trolls took offense and even going as far as attacking my “experience” or accusing me of being a “hater” which is odd because these trolls know nothing about me! Such weird, ugly people lurking on the dark bottom of the internet big!
I rented one for a week in Miami and had the same experience… now I’m shopping to buy one 😂 As a rental it could feel risky if you’re in an unfamiliar place with nowhere to plug in at home or hotel, though!
Sounds like it was your lack of experience. CCS chargers are all over France and the software tells you exactly where to find them. More like your issue than Polestar's.
@@sandersson2813 Your assumptions are wrong (hint: when you know nothing about another person or where in France we were, don’t make assumptions about their “experience”). Polestar’s software was inaccurate and lacked Tesla’s sophistication; it didn’t help us locate available fast chargers. And even when we found CCS charging stations using our phones, we were either: 1) unable to charge at available spots possibly because they were already set aside/reserved for Tesla vehicles; 2) stations were out of service (we even called the company on one occasion and they couldn’t even locate the unit); or 3) insufficient number of fast chargers throughout Normandy and the Loire valley made it painfully slow (45 min!).
It's not Polestar's software, it's Google's software and it tells you what plugs are available. I've just looked at your region concerned and there are loads of chargers. I'm not saying that electric car ownership is perfect, but a little bit of planning goes a long way.
Do not buy one of these cars if you need to do highway driving every day. The range it says on the dash is pure fantasy. Highway driving consumes much more energy than city driving. I drive 200 miles everyday and the Polestar will need to be charged during this period otherwise you are not getting home. Cramped interior, stupid location for the drink holders and a horrible climate control / radio design makes it a miserable experience. There is nothing luxury about this car IMO. It costs $34 or more to charge at the public station so you can drive 200 miles. If you only charge it at home on a regular 110v plug-in / it will take 43 hours to charge. Therefore you will need a upgraded outlet to get an overnight charge accomplished
1. I’ve had a rental and had 230 miles out of it. Why would you buy the standard range when you do regular 200 mile journeys? Sounds like buyer error. 2. Who buys an EV and charges from 110v? A proper home charger is a requisite for any EV ownership. Sounds like owner error. Don’t cut corners then and you’d get the proper benefit
Polestar? Sounds like a stripper? The Chinese made Polestar, which seems slower, and has less range than the US leader? Doesn't Polestar use that crappy CCS charger system that every manufacturer is leaving? What am I missing?
Great guide! Renting a polestar and was disoriented. This video helped to get me started!
