Have a rental now. The main screen turned off and it says I need a PIN. Rental company had no idea what to do over the phone and they were closed on Sunday. Driving in the heat and can't figure out now to use AC!
That was really useful, thanks. Wish Hertz had directed us to it when we took the polestar this afternoon. Strongly suggest they get anyone who hasn't driven one before to view the video before they take the car.
Got one from Hertz, came with 90% charge - like the car very much. Charged only at Electrify America, car could charge up to 150 kw - 30 minutes to add around 50% of battery.
Hertz gave us a polestar 2 instead of the Tesla Y that was promised to us - and we hated it: Software did not help us find charging stations, some Tesla locations were incompatible, charging took too long and the battery drained way too quickly. Hertz customer service was of no help. So in short we drove 2 to 3 hours and charged for one! Almost ruined our trip. Never again.
I have a Polestar 2 rental reserved for driving through the Alps in January. I am very concerned about the charging. The only information I can find about the charging on the Hertz web pages indicates a maximum of 11kW charging capacity. This is far too slow. The documentation on the car suggests it can handle the 50kW charging associated with CCS. The confusion is the cable you revealed in the car is only associated with 7kW charging - your comment. When you opened the charging port, you removed the cover from the lower two conductors, but the cable you revealed in the car does have the connectors that would utilize the conductors you removed the cover from ? There is no purpose in removing the cover over the lower conductors in the charging port, based on the cable you showed that is included with the car. Does the rental include cables to facilitate 50kW charging ? If not, then I need to cancel the rental, as I cannot wait for several hours for each charge.
what about the recharges? Can you recharge anywhere or just on Polestar/Hertz charging stations? You have to pay or there is some stations that is already covered by the rental? thanks
I rented one in Las Vegas in the States and it came with 39% charge. They said this was normal. After half a day even with running the AC in eco mode it was down to 19%. I returned it to Hertz and exchanged for a gas powered car and it took two hours to exchange and they up-charged me to do so. Never again will I rent an EV... I'm considering changing from Hertz to another rental company. I've been a Gold Member for over 30 years. Awful customer service.
I guess I'm the only one wondering how people are making up for the lack of android auto. I know it hooks up to Apple carplay. I can connect to music and calls via Bluetooth but when doing uber I haven't figured out a way to project my phone screen onto the car display
Thanks Lachlan! Yes, once paired with the car, the Polestar app gives charging information and control over door locking and climate. I didn't test it with this car, but Hertz gives full admin control of the infotainment system to renters so there's no reason you couldn't pair the app to your rental car.
You can't pair the app with the car unless you have ALL the keys for the Polestar 2 with you. So no.. You can't pair the app with the car even in guest mode. You can add all your Google info, including adding your apps (Spotify, TH-cam, etc) but no pairing with Polestar app.
Can it be charged without using the App? Asking because I want to rent an ev from hertz but they don’t guarantee Tesla so I might get this and might not have cell connection during my trip
Are you based in Australia? Hertz rentals should come with an Evie Networks RFID card in Australia (you still have to pay though). Sixt rentals in Australia should come with a Chargefox RFID card. Regardless of where you're based though, you can actually link Aany RFID card to any charging network account. Sign up for a charging provider, and you can use the same RFID card number for them all
I can't see if they have any network arrangements in EU; I know Ionity doesn't issue RFID cards, they say there is cell coverage at each location. I would check the charging providers in the areas you intend to drive.
Yes, in Australia 3 years are provided for free, with a fee (yet to be determined) thereafter. I'm sure Hertz/Polestar won't let the mobile connection lapse on rental cars after the 3 years.
What percent of charge was the car at when you picked it up? I'm thinking of renting one but worried I will get there with no charge. Did you have to return it at a certain percent of charge.
Yeah and what to do when there is is no cable included? 🤔 Messing up our Scottland vacation big time. And impossible to contac Hertz as well, real clowns 🤡
Takes too long to charge these things to 90% making Hertz seem disconnected from the reality of EVs. Rent a regular car and run far away from EV rental companies that require unrealistic and very inconvenient charge to 90%:)

thanks for the overview, I have reserved a Polestar 2 for pickup at Oakland, California next week and I do appreciate the "walk through".
How did it work out? Are charging stations readily available like Tesla?
Good to see Hertz is sometimes providing charge cables. I’ve rented twice from them and no cables were provided.

Thanks, usually rented Tesla’s but this is my first Polestar and this was just the quick overview I was looking for.

Why would anyone rent an EV for a road trip
Thanks for a great overview! Well done!
Thanks for that overview, very helpful prior to our hire
Thanks Neerav, hope you enjoyed the car, and great to connect!
It was very useful, thank you!

Great overview! Question.. can you use the polestar app on your phone to check charging status when charging?

thanks for the review, does the polestar already have mobile connection?
Hi Kenneth, do you mean LTE/cell connectivity?
@@EVBrief yes sorry mobile data

80%
It took me so long to figure out how to charge this car and it takes forever to charge….
I was so frustrated

My Hertz Polestar 2 had both cables in the frunk (open the bonnet using the lever in the driver's footwell)
