- In part one of a two-part build series, we look at the over all kit, create a build plan and discuss the lighting plan. This kit is still available on eBay and Amazon it's from MPC/Ertl - There is a repop of this kit from Revell Germany as well. The lighting is available from Evans Design.
Loved/hated the old MPC SW kits. Saturday nights usually consisted of The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, glue fumes and all that glorious styrene that barely fit together . . .😵💫
Jamie Hood, the brand manager of Round2 Model kits, has revealed that this die of this model kit is no longer available. So what is available on eBay is all that is available. The MPC kit is bigger than the Revell kit.
A fine start to a half decent kit - Merlin Models did a 1/48th kit which looked beautiful...
Although the glass was smoked on the original filming model, there were pilots situated in the ILM miniature - just slightly, only slightly you didn't add the wee Vader to the cockpit.

Phil, the Tydirium is looking great! Will look into getting the Phrozen Sonic Saber one day lol. I don't do 3D printing ... but it can help boring into plastic to save on the hands. lol 🖖🖖🖖
As usual, it's most likely way too late to suggest this... but, it's hard for me to shut up. I think the two tiny gridded rectangles on the underside -- below the three pips where you plan on putting blue lighting -- are supposed to be the bright white landing lights. Nothing wrong with putting the blue in as well.
I am guessing you don't mind the self-flashing blue guys will go out of sync in no time? Okay, good. I've heard tell that you could make your own base using a 3D printer... Maybe.
Finally, if you have altered your lighting/camera rig in someway, great! Things look much better on my monitor. If you have not, it's time for me to get back to my Village Idiot stump.
My shuttle was so badly warped I almost tossed it, except for the fact I haven't seen another one since... I managed to get it together in a somewhat respectable fashion. Next plan is to finish Slave 1 and mount them like the scene from The Mandalorian...
One of my favourite Star Wars vehicles. Ever notice how the Emperors shuttle has a stripe on the front ‘nose’ to distinguish it from Vaders?
How old is this model Phil ? flexing your vocabulary at the beginning 😀 looking good so far, will see Keith next week and see what goodies he's got, love your thingy with your thinners/water in it want one !! you have definitely become a better builder also you can cut brass tube with a good as in new Stanley blade just roll it along with the blade and it will cut it with no bur. good old British saying a dogs breakfast not heard that in years

I remember this awful kit the gaps wow, frustrating never finished need a lot to make it acurate wanted to have cockpit removeable show inside, ended in the bin . Will watch how you do
Time Index 17:26 - How to cut brass tubing. Answer, use a new Xacto blade/knife. Place the brass tube on the bench with the sharp end of the Xacto at the location you want to make the cut and roll the blade/tubing back and forth until the knife cuts through. You can use the blade to debur inside of the cut end. Think of it as a replacement for a mini tubing cutter.

I built this one when I was a kid. Far before I had any patience or skill. It just goes to show you, with the sprue details, just how far these model kits have come and appreciate the advancements in technology 😊

Good luck on the build Phil, it is 8 nav lights, two on each wingtip and two at the bottom forward of where the stand is mean to mount. Evan Designs customized their sync with a pause circuit with 8 LEDs for me. I also replaced every laser barrel with K&S tubing. the most difficult fitment is from the upper to lower hull, would be a good idea to warm them up in very hot water then dry fit and hold in shape until cooled.
A tip I use is,I turn the jar of Mr Surfacer 500 onto its lid,let it settle,then when I turn the bottle over and open the lid,the sediment has settled onto the lid,I will then paint the thick sediment onto the seam/gap,let it dry,then take a cotton bud dampened with Mr hobby thinners and clean the joint up,no sanding and no destroyed detail

Turn on and hold exact knife still against rod.

Hi Phil...I purchased a tube of the Revell Contacta professional model glue in the blue, and yellow bottle. Any thoughts on the glue? Good, Bad, I've seen mixed reviews...some saying the glue doesn't bond well, and others that say the glue welds the plastic together as it should. Haven't used it yet, wanted to get another view about the glue before I start my next build. Love the Imperial Shuttle...its going to look great. Thanks Phil.
It’s a very good glue for styrene.

Great video Phil! I'm working on a Tydirium shuttle at the moment too. I'm doing a buddy build on it with Ian from Pitstain Hobbies. Most of the kit fits together great till you go to matte the two halves of the hull together. Then eye caramba! Can't wait to see the rest of yours Phil.

This is a very difficult kit, and most people get it wrong. There are several inaccurate parts, the cockpit angle and length of the main body are the worst to deal with. I would prefer that you tackle a more accurate studio scale garage kit than this to be honest, but I'll grab a drink and see what you come up with. It would be cool if you would paint it with the grey stripe and make it The Emperor's Shuttle instead. Also, all of the Shuttle's exterior lights flash, and in unison. There are just TWO belly lights, and two lights on each of the three wings. NONE of them are colored. Then there's the engines of course. EDIT: Oh dear. Phil, you're doing it wrong, lol! The wings have a light in the front AND the back! The wings don't go out to the side like that either. They go all the way down and against the frame. PLEASE look at some reference images and videos! Also keep in mind, there's really no need to cut out and light the engines if you're going to keep it in landing mode. Unless you're referring to the butchering of the film from 1997 onwards, there was no digital Shuttle.
