Yeh i think the Falcon is like a space forklift or like a space truck with the trailer attachment on the front. Its so interesting to think of how the artists came up with the design
Yeah that's always been the great thing about the design, right? It doesn't look like the sleek starfighters or command ships.... there was something implied to its purpose that we just weren't seeing
I think I've seen a sketch of this before and it was a cool concept. I actually like this explanation better than the escape pod. Awesome so see in the physical world! Great work sir!
The paint job on the barge is awesome. It's looks like a real piece of working working equipment. I love how you used the radar dish from the original kit to add some back story to the barge. Great job as always 👍
Fantastic idea and build as usual and great use of the build and play kit!!! Making the Falcon a barge tug really makes sense as per the previous comment re the cockpit and the fact that the Falcon is just basically a fairly small ship with massive engines. 😀
Great build, thanks very much for sharing! And the wooden base is a nice change from the usual sci-fi panels, it brings the model closer to traditional ship building. I love how in the SW lore, the "barge" concept, with the containers clicking into the Facon mandibles, managed to fit into the original concept of the Falcon as a cargo/transport, even though its original design left very little apparent space for extra cargo 🙂. Having said that, one could forever argue about wheteher pushing these containers (instead of carrying them internally or pulling them) would create momentum forces with every tiny change of course, that would break the whole thing apart, but that's part of the the magic of Star Wars I guess !
In X-Wing Alliance, all the Corellian freighters could tug cargo containers when using the docking claw. The Falcon's recess is a feature on the YT-1300, which enables it to push a cargo container as well. Han Solo has a warhead launcher hidden in his push coupler recess if you've ever seen the ship's cross-section.
Great project! Yep, I've long assumed the 'Falcon was a cargo pusher as well. The fork and offset cockpit make the most sense that way. Also, having strangers call it a piece of junk implies it was incomplete, or being used by Han in a nonstandard way. Like someone who's driving around town in a beat-up (but very fast) tractor! And it's not as awkward as it might seem, the Falcon would just be serving as the booster for a 'rocket' full of cargo, in a sense. Pulling the load would actually be more complicated in space, since the engine exhaust would be pointed at the cargo. In space without wind resistance, pushing the load would become just a matter of keeping the craft's trajectory steady. I was sad that this aspect of the concept (even if only implied) was misunderstood or ignored in *Solo*.
All the way back to 1977, my canon is that the Falcon had two escape pods, one on either side, where the two round "holes" are at the end of the corridors. Of course as stated in Star Wars, the ship was missing its escape pods.
The model should be turned 90 degrees, the cockpit was supposed to rotate inside the ship to put it on top of the barge. That also puts the "cannons" on the left and right instead of top and bottom.
I feel like a bull in a china shop fiddling with #18 wire and small DC power supplies when my average power supply is 480V 30-200A 3-phase AC most days at work. Model power distribution and lighting is my trade's low-volt DC segment, fire alarm, or voice and data work.
There’s supposed to be an escape pod in that spot in the nose isn’t there? I’m not super knowledgeable on star wars lore but thought I’d throw it out there
@@EagleSciFiModeler Thought you might have known. I saw the barge like you made on conceptual art from back in the earliest days of the franchise (and it makes the anatomy of the Falcon make sense) but its always nice to know what is cannon and what isnt :)
No matter where the cockpit is you will only ever see half. Even terrestrial pusher tugs can only see the half above the water line. Unlike in space the radar could see the opposite side as well as back fine and a simple 180 degree roll would give you a physical view if you so desired
Very interesting.... Now the weird front of the ship and the off-center cockpit make sense.
I thought it was an interesting concept... obviously...lol
It also explains why it’s so fast; it’s engines were sized to haul around all that mass
Brilliant!! I saw a piece of concept art with this configuration many years ago, it's amazing seeing it in reality, great work, sir!!
Thank you, friend!
Looks great. But for support of the cargo, perhaps a "full tang" style to help support the weight.
Thanks!

Thanks, I should of looked up who the concept artist was.

Thank you! I appreciate the support! It was a fun build.
That is cool. I always wondered how the melenium falcon could be a freighter with no cargo space. This totally makes sense and your model looks great!
Thank you!
I remember seeing this concept art somewhere. Very cool. Nice work!
Thanks!!
It looks great irregardless!
Thanks!!
That's super cool, I'd like to see it in Lego.
Thank you! I'm sure someone could figure it out in Lego...lol
That is pretty awesome, on the barge I'd add some flashing lights as warning lights.
Thanks!

Thanks! It was a fun project. I always liked the concept and it made sense as to how it would work.
Maybe the holes in the "glass" was to stop condensation getting trapped and fogging the clear plastic from the inside
Possibly
We need this for the Vintage Collection Falcon
That'd be cool
@@EagleSciFiModeler not to put you on the spot, about how big would it be?

It was fun to be a little creative.
@@EagleSciFiModeler Exactly. Having creative projects helps me forget the work week. Combine them with other projects makes them even better.
looks fantastic.

I love the idea of a space tugboat/light freighter doubling as a heavy fighter. Wish Star Wars could be saved from Disney.
Me too.
Awesome 👍
Thanks!

The concept art I was copying was arranged like I built it. It's just a concept.

Whatever you want it to be 🙂

Oh, it's a 4.5V AA supply. Gotcha.
Swings his wand and point it to the revell kit. "Accurize" Turns in to Bandai kit
Lol..well..not quite.
Awesome!
Thanks!!
Is that a multi-cell AAA 9V power supply?
It's a 3 AA battery supply 4.5 volts

Well I never. Genius.

So which is cannon?.....the notch is for docking with Cargo Barge or is it the empty space for an Escape Pod?
I'm not sure what is cannon...it was just a build of some concept art I had seen.

I don't keep up with cannon as much since Disney took over...it seems like whatever suits the storyline is what's cannon...lol
Radar antenna is useless as well as the cockpit since they all have half of their field view block bu the cargo.
Ok
