One thing I am a sucker for when travelling in canoe country is wanting to stop and fish at every "fishy" looking spot I pass....a good weed edge, a laydown on the shore, a rock pile, a good point. Usuallly, I just meet halfway and troll a lure along behind...and just pass closer to shorelines/weed edges as I go....very effective, and breaks up the monotony of a long day of paddling, haha.
What a gorgeous opening shot... Good decision using minimal music. I loved how and peaceful and natural the park sounded. Can't wait to visit someday. I'm sold.

I love the image coming out the Sony cameras the most, but Canon's got great image stabilization, which I took for granted in the little S120. The longest trek my siblings and I did was from Rock Lake campground through to Pen Lake, Welcome Lake, Harry's Lake, Frank's, Florence, and finally into Lake Louisa. I was exhausted that day since we did two day's worth of trekking in one day. That's what happens when you arrive really late the day before.
Wow, that is a big day! We trekked to Lake Louisa from Rock Lake along the same route once, though we stopped at Welcome Lake on the first day - can only imagine how epic your day must have been! :)
It was interesting. I know my brother calculated about 35 km that day including all the double carries we did plus the one canoe's padding broke on the last two kilometer portage and my brother had a lot of trouble with it. I subscribed, hoping to see more of your trips :).

I think we left from the campsite that day around 10:30am, and with one-trip portages we arrived at Hogan Lake sometime around 8pm... then I'd say it was about a 45min paddle to our campsite at the other end of the lake. Navigating on the lake at night was tricky, and in hindsight we probably should have left earlier in the morning :)
This is the first video from you that I had watched, but I am impressed with it. It must have taken a lot of work to make. Good animations showing the route, etc. and interesting scenery. My only thought to add the final polish would be to do a little color grading/balancing between shots. A small point, I know. Anyway, well done ladies!

There actually is a fair amount of colour grading / balancing applied... but you can only push the codec coming out of a $300 Canon S120 so far before if falls apart, lol. For run & gun vlogging, the camera's white balance is on auto, though to be honest, the colours and exposures coming out of a camera this cheap are all over the place... you should see the before! That and daily vloggers doing this for fun just don't have the time to apply the level of grading that my pro clients get, which is why I'm looking forward to picking up a better vlogging camera. If you'd like to see something with a little more polish, check out my Peanut "Better" S'mores video, filmed with a 5D3 😊

That was a Kevlar canoe, just curious, you say it is heavier than the ones you're used to. What canoe's have you used that are lighter than kevlar. Nice trip, good photography!! Thank's!!
Thanks John! I think in hindsight Julia was comparing it to a slightly shorter (possibly 16ft vs this 17ft) canoe that we had rented in the past. I think it was only 2-3 pounds lighter, but it was also slightly narrower, so it felt easier to flip up overhead :)

I did the same route a few years back, and have seen the alligator. In our 6 days in the park we saw 4 moose. I have not seen any moose in your videos, Have you not seen any or just not gotten any video footage?

Thank you! This particular series was filmed mostly with my older Canon S120 point & shoot, and then we filmed a separate video from this trip called "Peanut Better S'mores" with my Canon 5D3. Our more recent Algonquin Park series was filmed in 4K with a Panasonic GX85, and a PilotFly H2 gimbal in some of the shots. +Pete Morrison I'm Italian, and salami is still common here :) what I mean is… Pepperoni doesn't have a direct corrispondency in a type of salami you can buy here. it was invented in Americas (don't know where) and is a kind of "Milano" salami, but that, here, is not spicy and not smoked, it's produced there in Americas… and even is name,"Pepperoni", is an american name as "peperoni" here is used to indicate a kind of pepper… So with italians products doesn't have "so much" in common. It's an USA product again :) here in Europe (especially in Italy, as you can imagine) we have a way way more restrictive law regarding food… and trust me, you wouldn't be allowed (until now, hope TTIP will never be ratified, at least in this actual form) to place a flag of a foreign country if that has nothing in common with what you're selling. It is considered false advertising. hence, we're "protecting" regional origin of a specific product with D.O.P., D.O.C., D.O.P.G. and so on (for wine or parmiggiano for example, way different from your parmesan :) )

Thanks Carsiotto! We kept it at the bottom of the food barrel where it's cooler, and use the microwavable ready-crisp bacon that can be stored at room temperature until it's opened. You can find out more about our meal planning in our recent "How to Canoe Camp in Algonquin Park" video :)
I used that kind of bacon on a recent camping trip too! In another video I saw you ate steak. So no ice, just put it at the bottom of the barrel?

what I mean is… Pepperoni doesn't have a direct corrispondency in a type of salami you can buy here. it was invented in Americas (don't know where) and is a kind of "Milano" salami, but that, here, is not spicy and not smoked, it's produced there in Americas… and even is name,"Pepperoni", is an american name as "peperoni" here is used to indicate a kind of pepper… So with italians products doesn't have "so much" in common. It's an USA product again :)
here in Europe (especially in Italy, as you can imagine) we have a way way more restrictive law regarding food… and trust me, you wouldn't be allowed (until now, hope TTIP will never be ratified, at least in this actual form) to place a flag of a foreign country if that has nothing in common with what you're selling. It is considered false advertising.
hence, we're "protecting" regional origin of a specific product with D.O.P., D.O.C., D.O.P.G. and so on (for wine or parmiggiano for example, way different from your parmesan :) )
