2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z51 Track Review - Stupidly Fast With Minimal Mods

  • With just coilovers, tires, and small aero upgrades, this C8 Z51 is now the quickest car I've ever driven at Sonoma and very close in lap time (accounting for 1-2 seconds shaved due to the recent repave) to the heavily modified GR Supra I reviewed not long ago.

    I dk if you were careful cause not your car, but sensed it a bit intimidating at the limit.. I can't imagine how raw the Z06 must be. Also re: 10:30 mini-excursion, a good reminder how car in front of you can imperceptibly affect your line.

      I never full send in cars that aren't my own, but I felt like I was getting accustomed to the C8 pretty quickly given I only had about 10 minutes with zero warm up. With another few laps I think a low 1:46 would have been feasible.

      Just sold my ‘21 Z51 which I tracked and took delivery of my ‘24 Z06 which will be featured in an upcoming Zygrene video. Still breaking it in. The cars are COMPLETELY different. As good as the Z51 is, it is lacking in those areas as you say. It’s so good as to be somewhat easy on track - it’s just so balanced and planted. And it’s a bit too tame and quiet around town with the low revs and such. It’s compromised for the everyday old guy cruiser Corvette buyer. I was looking for something with more character and edge and the Z06 is absolutely overflowing with it in ways that can’t be overstated - the engine, the chassis, the suspension tuning, and THE SOUND. Only car I’ve ever driven that rivals it is the 458 and honestly other than the looks, in which the 458 beats virtually every car ever made, the Z06 is the better car in pretty much every way - it’s absolutely epic and an all time great IMHO. I think it’s my forever car.

    • @MrNorotic
      @MrNorotic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Mostly comes down to weight. That gr86 cup car was down about 800 lbs in weight vs the C8. The GR is able to brake later and mash on the gas sooner on exit.
      High hp is great on straights but most race tracks have alot of high g turns where handling and weight plays a bigger role.
