At 5:51 in the video we see a mistake in the test during the first drag race. The Tesla seems to be in Track Mode. Track mode is best for lapping sessions where it cools the battery down and allows you to turn down traction and stability features. It’s great for lapping days but not good for drag racing. You will lose about 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile with track mode enabled. For drag racing just set it to insane mode and precondition the battery as if you were going to charge it. Preconditioning the battery heats it up just enough to be the ideal temperature for maximum power in a 1/4 mile pass. If you did that, the Tesla would have won both races. Race the BMW again in a rematch not in Track Mode. Tesla will dip into the high 10’s and pick up @ 5mph. Only fair since the other 2 cars both got to be in their best settings for drag racing.
Bro, they race them multiple times. Also, Jason was one of the first few journalists to drive the 2024 M3P, weeks before its official announcement. Oh, and he addressed these comments up in his curmudgeon podcast Ep. 164 :)) Best time was in 4th run @94%, so the battery was at a very nice temp and as close to "racing" in real world conditions.
@@Evans_Man Yes, they did race them multiple times. They did so with the the BMW and the Mercedes in the best mode for drag racing and the Tesla in the worst mode for drag racing. I know because I own a Tesla and took it to the track. If you run it in insane mode, you can’t run slower than 10.8 all day long unless you forget to floor it or you own a Model 3 outside the USA with an LG battery pack. It’s that easy. He admitted he unknowingly had it in the wrong mode in an interview also on TH-cam after all the backlash he got. He said he didn’t know track mode was slower for drag racing, I believe him. If you don’t own one, you aren’t going to know all the fine details. Insane mode is also how you typically drive it on the street every day as well, not track mode which is meant for lapping days only. Track mode cools the battery so you can theoretically get a lap or 2 in before you start to overheat the battery and force the ECU to pull horsepower. It’s not perfect yet for lapping, but drag racing, and street light type racing, Tesla is hard to beat. I’m not hating on Jason, he has one of the best car channels on TH-cam. Just pointing out the error that’s all. It deserves a rematch which he said he will do. The rematch will also have a full lap, not just a 1/4 mile run which is where the BMW should do better.
@@fabiomigotto Thank you for your comment and noticing this, I would have said the same if I would have noticed this. Also, they could have charged the Tesla to 100%. Not sure if that makes a difference on the current model. At 100% state of charge, my 2022 Model 3 Performance is quicker than at 70-something % (like in this drag race).

Was the Tesla in track mode? I see a lot of people that aren't familiar with Teslas turn track mode on for drag racing, but it actually slows the car down in a straight line and is meant for tracking the car.
My M3P has run super consistent 10.9 at just a hair under 125., and, yes, I have the stack of time slips. At two different drag strips, total of 15 runs, in much colder weather than you guys ran, which makes it slower. As I'm sure you know. Scheduled maintenance equals zero. Fuel economy equals about 120 MPG. And besides the $7,500 rebate from the feds, New York State, amazingly, kicks in another 500. BTW, I will be 80 years old in a few weeks. And I am fat. If you are curious, the first drag strip was Lebanon Valley dragway, just east of Albany, New York, and the second was Island dragway, near Hackettstown, New Jersey, The track where Big Daddy Don Garlits broke 200 when I was your age.

@@Gemini_0815 well I was making a joke, but it is not a myth either. Auto top NL, which tests cars in Germany at top speed, has complained about it, as have numerous automotive publications. Does it matter what happens after 100mph on the Autobahn?? Absolutely! I live near one of the few stretches of Autobahn that are not too congested. Most german performance cars are limited to 155mph and i travel at that speed all the time. But you need a bit of empty left lane to get to that speed. At about 140mph people in front of you will start to see more easily that you are going fast, and they will less often pull out of the right lane in front of you. So it is easier to hold higher speeds.

All three would do poorly in an all-out 5-lap race. The sad reality is that with the possible exception of a 911 GT3, none of these production cars can go all out for more than a few laps. The Tesla will have the additional issue of battery drain and battery management, but they all would cook the brake fluid and none of those brake pads are up to task. The ICE cars have a good chance of breaking something else like the water pump (maybe not brand new, but after a while). I have a friend who is a driving instructor at a local track and he has all kinds of stories of people coming out in BMWs and Audis thinking their cars are track cars when they are not. The amount of production/editing is appreciated. Very nice way to present an otherwise drab drag. Race. Sub'd.
Best time was in 4th run @94%, so the battery was at a very nice temp and as close to "racing" in real world conditions.
