Ha! No kiddin! I was looking to see if someone had already posted this comment before I did... Heck, after that "easy lap" I'm thinkin I may have been looking to bail too!
This video so much more valuable than all the car reviewer videos. Misha jumps in, put it in track mode, turns off traction control and immediately passes most everything on the ring. Second lap even quicker and confident.
I tracked and rally raced a Porsche. Some folks are confusing “racing” vs “open track”. Racing you don’t get out of the way and block. Open track etiquette and safety is to move over for faster traffic. I conservatively counted 3 times Misha had to let off. In the end Misha was demonstrating safety and maturity on the track keeping himself, passenger, and Golf safe for another day on the track.
Well, most sanctioned racing do not allow you to block per se, but rather make one defensive move, usually toward the inside track of the approaching corner (or most important corner if you expect to race wheel-to-wheel for multiple corners.
They definitely will. Rumors are even saying that the ZR1 will be pushing 850 hp, and the Zora will be putting down 1,000. The Z06 is where my heart lies, though; you can’t beat that fabulous NA V8.
You can tell that guy was having the time of his life! Got a Russian driving an American Corvette on a German racetrack! Quite the unique experience. That car moves, too.
So true. The WRX STI was like that for me. Even tuned you could go 8-9/10 with it and feel comfortable, with kind boggling levels of grip (4 differentials). Mine was protuned at 480 HP and minimal lag. It was really fun to learn to drive properly with that car.
@Karl with a K the asterisk was not used to highlight. You can utilize google to brush up on proper grammar and common internet/text lingo. Seems like you're an elderly fellow so I will excuse the ignorance. I highly doubt you have tracked despite what you say here. Good day.
That Corvette impressed me too. Considering that it doesn’t have a crazy amount of power, it seemed to accelerate pretty darn good to me. I thought it sounded decent too and of course with Misha driving, that in itself made a lot of difference.👍👍🇨🇦
I drove the C8 last fall at Dream Racing Las Vegas and it's an amazing car. I drove the Ferrari 488 right after it and I think that the Vette was actually a more balanced car (albeit, the 488's Turbo boost was incredible). I will absolutely buy one someday.
I had the opportunity to drive one for a week and what surprised me the most was the magnetic suspension. In track mode it is very stiff and you can feel everything, but in comfort it rides like a Rolls. Very stark difference between modes. I was impressed.
@@paintbywolf8789 that is incorrect. Delphi Automotive which was created and owned by GM designed and developed the magnetic ride control. The Ontario based company multimatic you speak of "which I am very familiar with" developed the Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers DSSV which were originally used for racing only but about half a dozen vehicles used them now including a few pickup trucks "one which I own"

First thing I have to say, Robert should add one to the fleet lol. Thank you to the owner for bringing it out and having a shared experience with us. If I were the owner I'd go with PS4S all around. Then I'd do an air filter and cat back exhaust. I wonder if the brake ducts under the car were installed for this run, because the brakes seemed not to fade.
@Omar Monelle The car was on the factory Michelin PS4S tires and the brake ducts were installed as well. I mention in the video that I have few things to install and those a CAI, Ported throttle body and ported Intake manifold. Hopefully that will help it breathe a little better up top!
Just imagine what the Z06 will do with better aero, better tires, better breaks, high reviving engine! with fantastic sound and after all you can put the car on comfort mode and you still can enjoy it in a daily driving. Few cars can give you this combination. Really brilliant Z06 should be in the Taxi fleet.

Fricking awesome! Base model? Geez! Misha, you a bad man! The owner, one helluva guy, to travel there, bring your rocket and be so generous, too? Thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, GM hit it out the park with this one. One thing, it's not an LS technically, it's called the LT2. Sure, it's a beefed up newer version of it :) Funny part how he said it doesn't breathe well up top, it's likely the cam. A cammed LS3 will put out LT2 rwhp, they are a limited due to the OHV geometry and powerband vs efficiency and testing emissions. If he does cam and a few other things it'll be much more responsive, I'd leave the intake alone though GM did a good design there, it's variable tuning already.
I just checked the pricing for the C8 on the German Chevrolet price list. You can get the different trim levels on the 2023 car starting at 2LT. The price, including MWST 19%, for a 3LT is 100.050 €. Still a good deal.
Zora Arkus-Duntov is very happy with the existence of the C8. It's the mid-engine Corvette that he always dreamed would exist. Also, the big problem with the C8's power is that it likes to pull timing. The cars will dyno close to the claimed 490hp, but because they can pull up to 15 degrees of timing it can really fall flat on its face when pushed on a track. That has been the big thing I've seen track guys trying to combat.
@@mAthXjAzz he means ignition timing. Earlier ignition timing can result in more power. If the car is pulling 15° of timing you loose a lot of power. This usually happens if something gets to hot, some pressure gets low etc.

I was a little worried as I hadnt sat in one before prior to purchasing and wasn't sure how my 6'5 frame would fit but it's not too bad. I wouldn't recommend the car for anyone over 6'5 with a very long torso though

It doesn't have the "LS" engine, it is a new generation called "LT" , a redevelopped V8 "smallblock" it has direct injection and things like that. *Smallblock refers to the method of construction of the engine, a bigblock has the pushrods outside of the V bank, a smallblock has the pushrods (for the valves) inside the V bank. A bigblock can be 4.9 ltr displacement, and a smallblock has up to nearly 8 ltrs displacement as a possibility.
Unfortunately most of that is incorrect. The difference between a big block Chevy and a small block is simply the overall design and ultimate displacement of the engine. Historically the small block stopped around 400 cubic inches (6.5L), and the big block picked up from there. The current generations of small block, starting with the LS, are capable of reaching 427ci (7.0L) and current versions of the big block that GM Performance sells can reach 532ci (8.7L), with even more possible using custom blocks. Both small and big block engines are Over Head Valve which means the camshaft is in the V of the engine, therefore the pushrods are always located inside the V because they transfer the action of the camshaft to the rocker arms which open the valves. While there are quite a few detail differences between the two engine designs, they are both OHV pushrod V8s
I pretty much know as much about the LT as everyone else here but I'd still say you can say the LT is basically an LS. Big deal the componants are shapped a bit differently and it has the di, vvt, and computer to run the 8 and 10 speeds. It's still a lightweight alloy gm engine. What other engine does it have as much in common with? I'd say it's closer to the LS then the LS was to the gen 1 and 2 type motors. The LT is more like a gen 4.75. Calling it just a 4.5 probably wouldn't be enough. Just think of it as your girlfriend LS and LT you can cuddle the same. An old small block. That's just not the same it's like a differnet human!
@@Timmayytoo Biggest GM small block now is LSX with 7.4 L and 630 HP , current biggest big block is ZZ632 -1004 HP ,successor of 572ci-9.4L -720 HP . These engines sells as crate engines for enthusiasts and doesn't have direct injection system as LT series. Big or small block is just about bore spacing .

The thing is... The base Corvette is somewhat of a "Halo product" in the US. I do marketing so I know these things. Also known as a "loss leader" They dont really have to make money on the car itself. So they sell the base car for zero profit. Its a bit like an X-Box. They take a loss on each X-Box they sell, but by the time you have bought 3 games and an extra controller, they are starting to see a profit. The profit on a Corvette comes from expensive options, financing, and aftermarket upgrades. The mythical 60 000 dollar base Corvette, almost doesnt exist. Because thats a zero-profit operation. Just so they will have to get another one in. Which is pointless for the dealership. A decently specced one is easily 85 grand. That business model doesnt quite work in Europe so I believe their plan is to only sell the Z51 track pack version, the top model, in Europe. And I would be surprised if it lands on less than 110-120 grand. Also a big V8 comes out poorly in emissions and stuff. So the car WILL by necessity end up in a higher tax / price bracket in Europe. Also I dont know where it lands on crash testing and emissions certification. I really wonder why its not already on sale in the EU and the world.
After all the whining about understeer from other testers this was refreshing! Also, this is so much more than a track car, a true GT, top down with real trunk volume.
@@GadgetyMV Yeah I think early in the video, the owner mentions that his car has a track alignment. It involves shimming around some of the front arms for better camber through the suspension range.

Hurry up a make a video on installing the harnesses on the convertible so these guys will get off my ass about not having the harnesses installed!! BTW, love your parts!
LT1/LT2 oil pressure sensor is at the end of the oiling circuit. Pressure reads low because of that. The engine is a dry sump with several oil pump (savenging/main oil pump and secondary ones). Oil pressure is perfectly fine, this is a variable flow pump driven by a proportional solenoid, which allow change of volume. Less than 120C on a track is really good
Very exciting to hear a real verdict on this C8 chassis at the ring. This goes right along with what I was expecting really glad it is what I hoped it was. I hold Mishas opinions in high regard especially when it comes to vehicle dynamics. Excellent video
In the Netherlands the entry-level no options C8 starts at 160K and the version in this video starts at 230K. A huge naturaly aspirated engine with high emissions adds a lot of tax here.
Yeah, that's why the C8 just doesn't make sense in Europe. It's a fantastic car, but I (as an American) would never pay that kind of money for a Corvette. The whole appeal of the Corvette is high performance for a small price. If you take the small price aspect out of the equation, it doesn't make as much sense. Well, most sanctioned racing do not allow you to block per se, but rather make one defensive move, usually toward the inside track of the approaching corner (or most important corner if you expect to race wheel-to-wheel for multiple corners.

If you feel 100% at ease in a car immediately, you know it's a good car and the right car for you. Make/model/horsepower are irrelevant.
So true. The WRX STI was like that for me. Even tuned you could go 8-9/10 with it and feel comfortable, with kind boggling levels of grip (4 differentials). Mine was protuned at 480 HP and minimal lag. It was really fun to learn to drive properly with that car.
@Karl with a K it was slowing him down actually lol

@Karl with a K sure you were boomer.

You should know that GM and Ferrari traded technologies: GM gets the Brembo brakes and Ferrari gets the magshocks.
@@Lesevesel Is that true? I didn't know that.
@@LeseveselI found nothing about ferrari having anything to do with GM and Brembo
GM designed the Magnetic Ride suspension that everyone in the world uses now and they really have the best all around dampers hands down on the c8

@@paintbywolf8789 that is incorrect. Delphi Automotive which was created and owned by GM designed and developed the magnetic ride control.

Glad you enjoyed it, GM hit it out the park with this one. One thing, it's not an LS technically, it's called the LT2. Sure, it's a beefed up newer version of it :)
Funny part how he said it doesn't breathe well up top, it's likely the cam. A cammed LS3 will put out LT2 rwhp, they are a limited due to the OHV geometry and powerband vs efficiency and testing emissions. If he does cam and a few other things it'll be much more responsive, I'd leave the intake alone though GM did a good design there, it's variable tuning already.
Exactly why the Z06 & ZR1 are going to the DOHC 5.5L LT6 initially developed for the C8R, N/A for the Z06 & twin turbo for the ZR1.
Props to the owner for allowing the tracking, and Misha for driving like a boss under perfect control. 👍👍
I just checked the pricing for the C8 on the German Chevrolet price list. You can get the different trim levels on the 2023 car starting at 2LT. The price, including MWST 19%, for a 3LT is 100.050 €. Still a good deal.
The z06 wont be available, even if so its gonna be a 170k car with tax
not really feasible
Zora Arkus-Duntov is very happy with the existence of the C8. It's the mid-engine Corvette that he always dreamed would exist.
Also, the big problem with the C8's power is that it likes to pull timing. The cars will dyno close to the claimed 490hp, but because they can pull up to 15 degrees of timing it can really fall flat on its face when pushed on a track. That has been the big thing I've seen track guys trying to combat.
What you mean with "15 degrees of timing"?
@@mAthXjAzz he means ignition timing. Earlier ignition timing can result in more power. If the car is pulling 15° of timing you loose a lot of power. This usually happens if something gets to hot, some pressure gets low etc.

Got an LT1 for $65k and to think I was so close to walking away because of a 5k markup.i hate markups but i have no regrets after driving this thing. The car looks and feels like it's worth so much more than what I paid for. One thing I immediately noticed was how well the car just hugs the road at high speeds and it handles so well.

Ah always wondered the difference between big and small block. Thanks for clearing that up.
DI… So the intake ports would need a walnut clean after 2 Mischa laps of the Nordschleife. I’ll stick with LS thanks 😅

200kPa is it too low?
Perfectly normal values temps after 2 laps 40+ km hard driving.
