As someone who has the battle capability of a goldfish on crack, the fragile heart/Unbreakable heart was HUGE as I inevitably run face first into a boss either assuming my shade cloak was ready or just not paying attention
I had absolute paranoia firsy time playing hollow knight about running in to a boss. Especially since the mantis was already a nightmare, so the boss probably was harder. And i was right, good thing its a challenge
and i always think of fragile/unbreakable heart as the highest damage boosting charm u could ever use those extra 2 mask always payoff as an extra 10/more nail hit, even more so when you're so high on adrenalin it could be the different between repeating a boss or winning the fight
Keep in mind, Fragile Heart is useful late game as well, if you're trying to get Shell Binding pantheons done, you go from four masks to SIX. 1.5x HEALTH BABY
WHAT??? The health is not capped at 4??? Thank you man, Ive never even thought about this! Even though Ive already completed the first 4 pantheons with all bindings...
Watching my friend play Hollow Knight for the first time ever (him going in mostly blind, as I was vaguely guiding him around without spoilers), and seeing him prance through Path of Pain in a QUARTER of the time it took me, all because he thought Sharp Shadow would be a fun addition to the parkour.... really opened my eyes on Sharp Shadow's versatility. I usually just use it for dealing some chip damage to bosses as I am evading their attacks, but seeing him use it as a mobility option was quite impressive. Yeah it lets you chip some health as you dodge through the foes, but is also increases the range of the dash, and that's not something I really registered. If anything I originally thought it was more of a hinderance (as I now had to get used to my new dash range). For my own sake, Grubsong. Never leave home without it, especially if you are accident prone. Or even something as simple as Gathering Swarm are very very useful. Swarm is amazing when yer just starting out, as it helps you make sure you get all the money you can and none of it is falling into acid or spikes where you can't grab it. And of course, Grubsong is just... Grubsong. Incredibly useful mid-fight. Pair with Weaversong for pseudo-Kingsoul during a tough boss, or even alone if it is just a fight you know you take a lot of damage in.
ive always used grubsong during chases in HK, it can mean getting that little bit of soul after you take dmg to heal instead of running to em and risk dying for 1 hit
i almost always have grubsong on except when i am doing something that require a specific charms set (which is rare) so that meant the first time i used weaversong was alongside grubsong i didnt really read the charm description so i thought that the soul came with the weaversong charm... boy was i wrong, when i took off grubsong i died. there were actually quite a few charm combos that i found by accident lol
I equipped sharp shadow almost as soon as I could and now when I take it off it feels off because I’m not used to my shade being so short and blocky. It’s just so odd for me now that I have to take it off to fight certain pantheon bosses because I’d like to have, say, weaversong on because I’d like to play a little more passively. Sharpshadow really changed my hollow knight experience forever tbh
Honestly, I used sharp shadow for the Markoth fight, and watching people complain about how shitty the platforms were was really weird, because just with Sharp shadow, I barely had any trouble with falling into the void without me actually making some dumb mistake. Although, sometimes it really can be a hinderance. I unequipped it for the absrad fight because plat forming became difficult with it and i wasn’t really gonna do damage with it.. given that you barely ever have to dash through the radiance. Sharp Shadow really is a win or lose situation for me, because sometimes it can absolutely make problems disappear (like if an enemy has too big of a hitbox to shade dash through, slap on sharp shadow and boom problem solved) but it can also grant you no real advantage or can make it disadvantageous at some points. I do think Sharp Shadow is a bit undervalued, because I see a lot of people just shitting on this charm. which is just like :[[[
As someone whose brain is on par with Internet Explorer, grubsong is invaluable. I accidentally go running headfirst into enemies and throw myself off of cliffs within three minutes of starting the game. Grubsong, quick slash, and quick focus are currently my go-to build.
Grubsong is probably the charm I used the most throughout all my playthroughts. It's just always nice to get so much soul for the cost of one charm notch.
I always combine grubsong with thorns of agony, cause then if I run into an enemy during the periods where my brain shuts off for a few seconds, I get a bit of soul to potentially use for healing, and there's the chance that the thorns will eliminate the enemy that I stupidly ran into.
Those are good ideas. I actually don't have weaversong or thorns of agony yet though. I'm avoiding deepnest as much as possible and I think I'm just so bad at the game that I haven't actually managed to find thorns of agony, wherever it is
I remember Fragile Heart being an absolute life saver during my first Steelsoul run. It’s really helpful, especially considering the whole “fragile” gimmick is rendered useless by Steelsoul mode
Something I noticed: When combined with Soul Twister, Soul _Catcher_ actually reduces the nail hits required to cast another spell from 3 Hits to 2. So _I guess_ it does have some use, but only when combined with Spell Twister (which is obviously better)
This combination increases your soul income by 33/24 * 14/11 = +75%. Its a bit more than Soul Eater gives (19/11 = +73%) for the same 4 slots, but Soul Eater gives you health boost as well. So this combination is viable, but only before you unlock the Dream Nail.
well. I prefer shaman (3)flukness (3)soul catcher (2)spell twister (2) soul eater (4) even if it kinda overcharm it still destroy bosses at kışlık 15 seccond
My go to charm build for most bosses is just all 4 spell charms. Soul Catcher, Soul Eater, Shaman Stone, and Spell Twister. I believe that if you get 3 nail hits, it allows you to cast 2 very high damage spells. Seems kinda busted to me. No need to heal when your damage output is higher than a m134 minigun with explosive rounds.
3:09 This is impossible without collecting claw, but not without "going past that spot" *deep breath* shade skip to salubra to buy longnail and equip it, die again to shade skip to blue lake. Get dream nail, descend into the waterways elevator using either a shade skip or a husk pogo on the way. Then procceed through waterways getting traumatised by hwurmps until you reach the room with cornifer (yes, this is possible). Then perform a shade skip to reach the lever and emerge into fungal wastes from the bottom. Head to claw either via shade skip or itemless epogo. Now that you have claw, you can head back into waterways and defeat dung defender normally, without ever even entering that large vertical room near leg eater. The fight will be with nail 0-1 and no spells, but if you got this far is that really a problem for you? Thank you for coming to my TED talk

I need to go outside more why do I know this…
This video actually made me use Dream Wielder on my Steel Soul save, and let me tell you, it’s pretty good. It feels like every ground enemy is a bench.
Tip for starters: Fragile Strength + Greed is REALLY useful for grinding in early-mid game where you're garunteed not to die during grinding. If you might die I suggest to replace strength with heart
You can grind the 5 flying weirdos in the failed tramway, with fragile greed, dreamgate, (that charm that collects geo for you) and fragile strength you can get it quite fast, all you have to do is to put your dreamgate near the bench, and then go left, kill all the bugs the flying weirdos spit out and then them, after that dreamgate and repeat. That's how I grinded out the unbreakable charms
That dream wielder section is spot on. When I found out you can actually dream nail enemies for dialogue it was pretty great. And it's sooo useful or survivability in steel soul as a guy that didn't really wanna cheese it by save quitting out of a rough situation
A charm that I use which I see not that many other use is sharp shadow. It is a solid charm cause you get to damage things by dashing through them (doesn't include strength) and you get additional distance on your dash. This charm is very useful for bosses cause you often dash through them anyway and with the added distance you won't get hit
I think Sharp Shadow is very underrated. It’s often called a “Noob Charm”, but people who say that haven’t dodged an attack from NKG or PV with the press of a button, dealing damage while you do.
Problem is that it’s just a single nail hit of damage which is pretty minimal for something with a cooldown. It’s not really worth using charm notches on it when the shade dash already is so much stronger when you use it defensively and sparingly.
@@bbarcus9144 yeah, if you consider it your main attack, which is something you should only do against smaller creatures. It's only a buff to your regular shade cloak, and that's why it's so good, it's turning your best escaping tool into an attack (and only one, yes, but one you can use to start start chain of many more).
Having just finished Steel Soul 100%, I got excited when you brought up Fragile Heart. Having two extra hits when most damage in the game takes only one mask is absurdly powerful, and you can get the charm notches for both it and strength very quickly.
Personally speaking, my favourite charm, nd one I keep in my build at ALL times, is Carefree Melody. Not only is it just super good as an effect to have while exploring, fighting log battles, and fighting bosses, but it can actually save you from losing if you get hit during a boss fight on Radiant. It is 100% the reason I beat Pure Vessel on Radiant for the first time. Sure, the chance is low when you haven't been hit much, but each time you get hit the chance gets higher, up to a certain percentage. Pretty sure it starts at 10%, then goes up by 10% every time you get hit, until it reaches 90%, then you have a 90% chance to avoid the damage. When the effect happens, and you avoid the damage, it resets. Truly an overpowered charm to have, that has saved me NUMEROUS times. Infinitely better than Grimmchild, too
@@RushWheeler yeah but grimmchild gets outdone by like any other form of damage you have and if you're playing offensively those 2 notches could be used somewhere else
@@akoxya I hate the grimmchild. I have a max nail and unbreakable strength equipped at all time. I do more than 2x the damage my grimmchild does, while it goes ahead and misses every enemy EXCEPT large jellyfish that get me killed. He doesn't even give me the soul for killing things. I really hate the grimmchild. 2 notches I could be using for wayward and gathering swarm
Carefree Melody is a criminally underrated charm. Use it with Fragile/Unbreakable Heart and Quick Focus and as long as you don't screw up REALLY bad, you're basically immortal.
FACTS! FINALLY someone else who agrees with me that Carefree Melody is the best charm. Did you know it can actually allow you to sometimes get hit during a boss fight on Radiant without dying, because you didn't take any damage? I'm sure you can understand how valuable that can be.
There’s a thing in the game where using a fragile charm in a dream fight cheeses the game because a death in the dream does not count as a real death, so you can use the charm infinitely
It’s not cheese you don’t die in actually dreams white palace (path of pain at least) and radiance are exceptions for lore reasons and cause they aren’t dreams but if you want to know that have fun at mossbags, however this is great info for new players
First off, loved this video. You have a compelling way of explaining complex/controversial takes. Now then, I think Steady Body is underutilized for how versatile it is. At 1 notch, it's relatively easy to spec around it. The real advantage is the mental bandwidth it saves for having to constantly reposition yourself, which allows you to focus better on timing, hit-count, soul gauge, spells, etc. The more things you have to worry about, the less you're able to perform in all of them. This might manifest itself in very subtle ways like missing an attack here, falling off a platform there, but most people will just chalk those blunders up to happenstance.
1: steady body isn't much of a DPS increase. 2: they're is just better 1 notch charms. 3: yes you don't get the knockback, but apart from MMC it's literally useless, and stops most common boss strategies.
Or just don’t use it and get the muscle memory to compensate the knockback, so you don’t need steady body as a crutch. It’s nice for when you start the game but it ends up developing a bad habit.
Personally my first playthrough I was a huge quick heal user because it makes healing mid fights not only way easier but way more possible when you suck
I'm using it for p5, it makes things much easier. I was previously using shaman stone in my p5 build but as I'm not particularly a spell user I find quick focus to be a better use for those three slots.
This also stacks really well with Dream Wielder. I'm personally partial to adding Grubsong, Thorns of Agony, and Spore Shroom to add damage output while using these to stay alive, but will toy around with other builds when I come up against bosses that don't offer a lot of opportunity to use these. (Typically also will add Mark of Pride, or Long Nail/Nailmaster's Glory for basic offensive capabilities.) The first 2 also effectively turn any wave with Shielded Fools in the Colosseum into a checkpoint - by isolating them and killing everything else in the room, you can farm Soul off them until you've both topped that off and fully healed.
@@alexowo8408 yeah it lowers the wind-up for nail arts from 2 seconds to 0.5 seconds. a 4x faster charge for nail arts... and people don't really care about it?
I'm useless at platformers and even worse at remembering to heal, but miraculously, my focus and determination skyrocket and my playstyle gets more aggressive as the situation gets riskier. Despite being terrible at games, I always somehow pull through with just one point of health. It's no exaggeration to Fury Of The Fallen is my favorite charm and always gives me just that extra little bit of damage needed to win. I think it's really overlooked in favor of less risk encouraging charms. Mark Of Pride is awesome, too, but I really love Fury Of The Fallen.
I'm actually more of a casual gamer, so I used fragile/unbreakable heart pretty consistently throughout the entire game. It made me feel more comfortable exploring and fighting because I had a larger margin for error. I don't think grubsong is underrated, but it also helped a ton by giving me back soul whenever I messed up (which was frequent!). Together, those two charms helped me recover from fighting or platforming blunders and eased a lot of frustration for me.
@@goddessdeedeebubblesofimag7789 By the time I found sharp shadow, I had already done most of the game. It was one of the last charms I got, so unfortunately I didn't have much opportunity to use it. I think it helped me in a couple boss fights, though. It's a good charm, for sure.
definately agree about heart, even in godhome, my go-to set involves heart. quick + deep focus, shape of unn, and heart is actually like really good grubsong is overall good as well, though i honestly always found it more useful for its combos and not its innate ability.
@@SoməøneXD Your set sounds like it's really good for staying alive. That's awesome. In my playthrough, I always ended up going with charms that helped me do as much damage as possible. I frequently used fragile/unbreakable strength, heart for health, mark of pride/long nail for reach, and grubsong and wayward compass if I had the space. That was my typical build. I never did learn about the secondary effects of some charm pairings, maybe I'll look into that in a second playthrough.
Steady Body is hugely good. Not getting knocked back when you hit something means you can hit it more often. It’s so good that top Pantheon runners use it in their charm builds.
Yeah no, it's barely any DPS , you can get better charms for the slot, and it can easily throw you off balance and make some boss tactics impossible, so no.
@@Tophat-Turtle Have you tried pairing it with quickslash? It literally makes everything feel like marmu. And you actually use quickslash to the fullest instead of wasting 3 notches doing the same exact thing without it equipped.
The power of steady body it amazing, as it is available from the beginning of the game if you are good or when you get dash, costing one notch, and making you take no knock back form your nail, make it a huge help. Parts where it really shines are when the boss you’re fighting moves a lot, like Grimm, mantis lords, or bosses that take large kb, like broken vessel or hornet, and before you go crying about hornet being required to get it, there are such things as shade skips, and getting it isn’t hard, just beat gruz mother, kill yourself (in game), go back, and do the simple shade skip that even a new player can understand it
The main problem with this isn’t the fact you said steady body is good it’s the fact you expect new players to shade skip, they are what you said new and new players aren’t going to know about shade skip I didn’t know about it until after true ending. Also steady body isn’t good it becomes something you can’t take off after you get used to it and I mean I use the knockback from the nail in combat a lot and it would suck not having that knockback
@@mono4366 I was able to do this shade skip on my second playthrough, after a few attempts, so yes, a new player could do it, but may need a few attempts
In my opinion, the three best charms are Grubsong, Quick Slash, and Dashmaster, with a close fourth being Carefree Melody and a fifth being Unbreakable Strength. This is because I normally use the nail, and I do so while dashing around a lot, so being able to hit an enemy many times within the span of a short fraction of a second between dashes is really op, and with Grubsong, I barely ever run out of soul to heal with if I ever take damage, which can be avoided in the first place very easily because I have Carefree Melody on, and I deal an insane amount of damage due to Unbreakable Strength. That’s basically the most op nail build I can think of, and since I barely use spells (I know, I should start doing so), those are my go-to charms.
Honestly you put two of some of my most used charms on that list. Aside from the obvious ones like Strength, Quick Slash, and Shaman Stone and their sheer brokenness, I use Spell Twister a *lot*. It's so useful having that one extra spell in fights, especially boss fights and the Colosseum. Dream Weilder is another I use often, for the reasons you already stated in the video. Honestly really cool to see these much underrated charms getting the spotlight (especially since I play this game a lot and love watching this series for the humor and remembering everything I completely borked on my first playthrough).
I already have Fragile Heart and Dream Wielder as two of my favorite charms. And that revelation about Soul Catcher is eye opening, I'll switch to Spell Twister now. Fragile Strength and Nailmaster's Glory are also two of my favorites.
Shape of unn. Not only is it the funny slug, (which is already reason enough for it to be on top of any charm tier list) but the sheer amount of extra healing opportunities and dodging abilities shout be talked about a lot more than it is. It also pairs very nicely with the other charms that involve healing, but it doesn't need them to be good. Excellent charm in my opinion.
Sharp Shadow my favorite charm. In my first play through I never took it off. Traitor Mantis Lord is my favorite boss because of it. It also helps when the charm looks like it got a case of teenage emo.
Traitor Lord works the same way without Sharp Shadow and it's also my favorite boss after PV+NKG. Get in his face and mash attack. If he tries to dash, dash through and repeat. The only boss I can see SS actually making a fundamental difference is vs NKG to dash through the flame trail, but you could also just pogo him twice instead. Not to shit on anyone who likes the charm though. I'd imagine it's fun to use if you're used to it but I just can't see anywhere it opens up any actual new strats.
Quick Focus is one of THE BEST charms in the game because wherever you are, be it the coliseum or the pantheons, you can heal TWICE AS FAST. It also works incredibly well with soul eater/dreamwielder. In a boss fight that offers basically no healing room? Now you can heal. In a situation where you can off 1 or 2 heals like Sisters of Battle? Now you can get off 3 or 4 heals (being you have the soul)
You've sold me on Dream Wielder. It'll be a useful component in a pet & magic focused playstyle. A build of the Weavers, Grub Song, Spell Twister and Glowing Womb sounds fun with the on demand butt ton of Soul Dream Wielder brings to the table. Bonus lore too is always appreciated.
i love steady body! especially with quickslash. it helps rio through still bosses like the second phase of soul turant without having so move the knight one inch after every hit
Steady Body is only hated by absolute idiots who are too dumb to see how OP it actually is, removing the knockback is half of the total freedom you can get in the fight, the second are the cooldowns such as after using a spell or healing
I personally love sharp shadow, because im still in my first playthrough of the game. I don't remember everything about the game that Ive seen, so using this charm is actually pretty helpful.
@Windette don't forget that dream wielder also combos with dreamshield making it bigger and recharge faster (making dream wielder KINDA of a combat charm too)
Sharp shadow is one of my favorites, in late game it just gives free damage for something you are already going to do regardless if it is equipped or not.
I personnally think nmg is kind of trash. In situation where I use nail arts, the normal charging time of the nail is more than enought. If I have one charm notch left, I'll put either grubsong, dream wielder or sprintmaster, most likely the first.
I believe thorns is a must have, it only takes up one charm notch and does everything it needs to. If your in the a situation with multiple enemies surrounding you, if you have thorns, once your hit they'll be taken out and give you a chance to move or heal. It's perfect
@@ilikecarrotz9094 yeah, i know is seen by much of the community as not great but it does work for me at least up until i have better charms to sub it out for
Never unequiped spell twister since I obtained it; Actively use Dream wielder for Pantheons. Heart allows you to have 6 masks for shell binding if you wanna sorta cheese it
I can definitely say one of my go to charms is lifeblood heart (for the same reason fragile heart is on this list), but one of the other ones I really like is Joni's blessing for the reason that if I'm doing something menial while just goofing off I'll equip it if I know I won't have to heal much (seeing as you can't heal with it equipped). Also I'm really enjoying this series.
I think shape of unn is underrated. It allows you to move while healing and shrinks your hit box, you’d be surprised with how much easier NKG is with it on. And combined with quick focus not only do you heal quickly but you move quickly
As someone who has never played Hollow Knight and haven't looked into it until recently, these were the most confusing but entertaining 5 minutes of my life.
steady body, staying near an enemy without being knocked back can often get you another hit, and for one charm notch, that's quite good. as well, for bosses that float it can definitely help you stay near and get more nail hits, and once you get used to it you can't really go back (oh yea also half of the people that did p5 hitless used steady body) heavy blow, it staggers enemies more, this is the only good use, so its useful for bosses like lost kin that get staggered easily (9 hits) and decreases that to 8 hits
Ok ok hear me out: Unpopular opinion, but sharp shadow is an amazing charm. Its utility is underrated in both path of pain, white palace, and long boss fights. It extends the range of your shade dash, and deals a little damage, and fits in well with pure nail builds. This charm singlehandedly carried me through the NKG, And Lost Kin fights, being ESPECIALLY useful is NKG. But on top of that, its actually great for white palace and path of pain. It lets you skip some of the timing sections, or at least makes them easier, and the only drawback is you have to move backwards a little in some jumps. Its personally in S+ tier for me, alongside Unbreaking strength, Quickslash, and Mark of Pride. (All in my build) I know spells do insane damage, but i personally just dont enjoy playing with them.
I’m newer to the game and I always thought that what leg eater wanted to show me was like a leg collection or something and I would get scammed of 80 geo. Glad to see he’s useful
i feel like steady body and hiveblood get slept on a bit, those things are FUCKING GREAT. the amount of times steady body has saved my dumbass from a ciff or something because instead of pogoing vessel decided to hit forward (not my fault) is annoyingly high. also MASK REGENRATION!? HELLO??? that shit is fire and it helps to slow things down and let you keep your head in the game longer
Does anyone else realise that while you have steady body equipped when you are in the fungal wastes and you are bouncing on the pinky/red mushrooms it keeps you steadier. Also steady body just seems underrated
Steady body is extremely useful in 2 scenarios: Massive Miserable Cucumber, and Hollow Knight/Pantheon variant, so you can keep hitting without falling into the giant spikes that shot up next to you. Any other time is completely useless.
Charms you say? Well Well then let's find out Ok that was cool but You ever go speed with dash and sprint master Edit:and sharp shadow I was an idiot and forgot sharp shadow
My charm build to walk around the map usually includes dashmaster, sprintmaster, dream wielder, grubsong. They all make things so much more convenient.
i like the charm that indicates your position on the map i've never unequipped it on my main run, so it is still before the one charm that doesn't go away
I really want to share my thoughts on heavy blow, i agree when everyone mocks this charm, however i found a good use of it. I used it on my challange run (no nail upgrades) to throw enemies out of theirs effective range and into shade soul.
As a person who constantly hordes soul, when I first saw dreamnail, I thought “Nice, infinite soul. Guess I’m gonna have to work around the windup though.” And the I got 500 essence, and my life hasn’t been the same since.
yk ive thought this for awhile especially watching this video, but i REALLY like sharp shadow as a boss charm especially. i had it basically permanently equipped for my run since i got it, and it always felt somewhat useful. if i was shadow dashing through a boss to evade attacks, it was just an added source of damage. watcher knights, hornet 2, nkg, traitor lord, hive knight, collector, and several other heavily melee oriented fights made it feel extremely cozy and really consistent at letting damage slowly but surely add up.
What are your thoughts on Soul Eater anyway? It's actually really good in my opinion. Being able to gather soul effortlessly and sling spells like they're absolutely nothing is sometimes even better than Spell Twister. Soul Eater has a spot in my build because of the sheer soul gathering power. Also, I love Dreamwielder. I don't know why it's not so loved, like wtf. That charm deserves far, far more love. It has saved my sorry ass a million times from dying to stupid shit, especially in coliseum 3.
It's pretty powerful, but due to the notch cost you pretty much have to make your build around it, as opposed to soul twister which can fit in almost any build.
Wow you're even dumber than Rusty! And he didn't know until much later in the game (Which would mean like 12 hours or so in game) That The hot springs actually refills soul!
I like to make loadouts geared towards the adventure aspect of HK. 2 Compass & Gathering Swarm (convenience) 3 Grub Elegy (my reasons on this one are beyond the comprehension of morons...which means I don't know either) 1 Spore Shroom (for that weird mushroom guy) 1 Nailmaster (cause Sly) 1 DreamWielder (DN is too cumbersome otherwise) 2 Grimmchild (cause Vampire Pain-sugar Daddy) 0 Void Heart (would keep it on even if it could be removed) Total Cost 10 means I can always throw caution to the wind and overcharm. Though most of the time I slap Dung Crest for memes.
Steady body is underrated. It allows you to increase your dps a fair bit and when fighting bosses with limited plat forms insures you won't fall off when hitting an enemy and knock your self into hazardous objects like spikes and thorns.
Fragile heart exists in the normal game: perfection Fragile heart exists in any radiant boss fight: waste of charm notches That is the only situation you shouldn't use this charm in..that I can think of in about a minute
i know i’m ridiculously late to this but, i recently got into hollow knight (i’m halfway through city of tears), and i completely approve your argument regarding fragile heart. literally saved my life no joke 😭

That's Rough Buddy.
Stalwart shell has saved me more times than any other charm has in steel soul

Also, for White Palace- Deep Focus, Grubsong, and Grubberfly's Elegy. You'll never run out of soul.

Try using Grubsong in combination with Weaversong, you get free soul whenever the weavers attack.

My go to charm build for most bosses is just all 4 spell charms. Soul Catcher, Soul Eater, Shaman Stone, and Spell Twister. No need to heal when your damage output is higher than a m134 minigun with explosive rounds.

Infinitely better than Grimmchild, too
This is one of the charms that feel week in the main game, but are insanely OP in modded bosses such as Any Radiance
Melody is only useful if you play defensively. Offensively, Grimmchild is infinitely better, being the strongest pet.
@@RushWheeler yeah but grimmchild gets outdone by like any other form of damage you have and if you're playing offensively those 2 notches could be used somewhere else

First video watched an im already being called an idiot
This might be one of my most favorited channel yet
@@Tophat-Turtle1. It's a huge DPS increase with quickslash.
2. Which charms?
3. All top pantheon runners use it.
Personally my first playthrough I was a huge quick heal user because it makes healing mid fights not only way easier but way more possible when you suck
I'm using it for p5, it makes things much easier. I was previously using shaman stone in my p5 build but as I'm not particularly a spell user I find quick focus to be a better use for those three slots.
sammeee
This also stacks really well with Dream Wielder. I'm personally partial to adding Grubsong, Thorns of Agony, and Spore Shroom to add damage output while using these to stay alive, but will toy around with other builds when I come up against bosses that don't offer a lot of opportunity to use these. (Typically also will add Mark of Pride, or Long Nail/Nailmaster's Glory for basic offensive capabilities.)
The first 2 also effectively turn any wave with Shielded Fools in the Colosseum into a checkpoint - by isolating them and killing everything else in the room, you can farm Soul off them until you've both topped that off and fully healed.

I use steady body to get like 50 percent or so more hits on bosses that get knocked back. Yeah its good
Yeah no, it's barely any DPS , you can get better charms for the slot, and it can easily throw you off balance and make some boss tactics impossible, so no.
@@Tophat-Turtle Have you tried pairing it with quickslash? It literally makes everything feel like marmu. And you actually use quickslash to the fullest instead of wasting 3 notches doing the same exact thing without it equipped.
@@group_dm and even with quickslash it's an ineffective strategy compared to most builds
Steady body is useful for bosses like broken vessel, but useless for bosses like false knight
The power of steady body it amazing, as it is available from the beginning of the game if you are good or when you get dash, costing one notch, and making you take no knock back form your nail, make it a huge help. Parts where it really shines are when the boss you’re fighting moves a lot, like Grimm, mantis lords, or bosses that take large kb, like broken vessel or hornet, and before you go crying about hornet being required to get it, there are such things as shade skips, and getting it isn’t hard, just beat gruz mother, kill yourself (in game), go back, and do the simple shade skip that even a new player can understand it
YES FINALLY
The main problem with this isn’t the fact you said steady body is good it’s the fact you expect new players to shade skip, they are what you said new and new players aren’t going to know about shade skip I didn’t know about it until after true ending. Also steady body isn’t good it becomes something you can’t take off after you get used to it and I mean I use the knockback from the nail in combat a lot and it would suck not having that knockback
@@mono4366 I was able to do this shade skip on my second playthrough, after a few attempts, so yes, a new player could do it, but may need a few attempts
Steady body is only good if it's combined with quick slash. It practically has no purpose without quick slash.
Wait, you have to kill yourself ‘IN GAME.’ No wonder I didn’t get steady body early
I hold myself up with pride knowing I cant function WITHOUT steady body
Sharp Shadow my favorite charm. In my first play through I never took it off. Traitor Mantis Lord is my favorite boss because of it. It also helps when the charm looks like it got a case of teenage emo.
this comment makes me wonder why i like some emo things when i myself am not.
3:49 You know, this frame is the perfection.

I was just about to mention the Defender's Crest, you must have a Dream Nail.

Not to mention how useful it is against traitor lord, it's what helped be on my first ever playthrough
I adored using Dream Wielder in my first playthrough, it was absoluely helpful
I’m newer to the game and I always thought that what leg eater wanted to show me was like a leg collection or something and I would get scammed of 80 geo. Glad to see he’s useful
0:05 I'm gonna call CAP on that my guy. I'd have to care what you said about me.
Pls talk about shape of unn. It is literally my 3rd favorite charm of all.
funny I think shape of unn is overrated
Hehe, slug go brrrr
Shape of unn is so useful. I prefer quick focus, though.
Good point. I like SoU a lot
Yay, a fellow Shape of Unn fan! I pretty much always have it equipped in boss fights (except for radiant, obviously)
im not sure if this is underrated or not but nailmasters glory is a great charm.
Yes it's a very underrated but good charm
It's not underrated tho
@@zzedixx
Everyone uses it but ok
@@DeltaPhox Most casual players don't, they just forget about their nail arts
@@zzedixx
Fair enough
Everyone who is serious about the game uses it
i feel like steady body and hiveblood get slept on a bit, those things are FUCKING GREAT. the amount of times steady body has saved my dumbass from a ciff or something because instead of pogoing vessel decided to hit forward (not my fault) is annoyingly high. also MASK REGENRATION!? HELLO??? that shit is fire and it helps to slow things down and let you keep your head in the game longer
This video presents unique way of thinking that I don’t often see. Very good and informative video
0:52 Noooo I'm bad at maths
Does anyone else realise that while you have steady body equipped when you are in the fungal wastes and you are bouncing on the pinky/red mushrooms it keeps you steadier. Also steady body just seems underrated
Steady body is a debuff, not a help
Steady body is extremely useful in 2 scenarios: Massive Miserable Cucumber, and Hollow Knight/Pantheon variant, so you can keep hitting without falling into the giant spikes that shot up next to you. Any other time is completely useless.
@@Naokarma massive miserable cucumber lmao
is that moss charger lol
@@Naokarmaeven on pure vessel it's a literal downgrade of dps
Yeah no the charm is just shit
Charms you say?
Well Well then let's find out
Ok that was cool but
You ever go speed with dash and sprint master
Edit:and sharp shadow I was an idiot and forgot sharp shadow
bro yes it fr makes walking around hollownest soooo much faster
Sprint master helps a lot during mantis lord fight
My charm build to walk around the map usually includes dashmaster, sprintmaster, dream wielder, grubsong. They all make things so much more convenient.
*sideways stares in the trio ain't complete without Sharp Shadow*
@@goddessdeedeebubblesofimag7789 oh yeah I forgot about that always use that
Fragile heart + steel soul = unbreakable heart
i like the charm that indicates your position on the map
i've never unequipped it on my main run, so it is still before the one charm that doesn't go away
I really want to share my thoughts on heavy blow, i agree when everyone mocks this charm, however i found a good use of it. I used it on my challange run (no nail upgrades) to throw enemies out of theirs effective range and into shade soul.
Wait that's actually smart.
@@RushWheeler thanks
Awesome! I’ve used it in tandem with elegy in order to keephiting them and get them away easier
3:16 (water lake skip)
As a person who constantly hordes soul, when I first saw dreamnail, I thought “Nice, infinite soul. Guess I’m gonna have to work around the windup though.” And the I got 500 essence, and my life hasn’t been the same since.
The charm that beats all of them though is the WAYWARD COMPASS
yk ive thought this for awhile especially watching this video, but i REALLY like sharp shadow as a boss charm especially. i had it basically permanently equipped for my run since i got it, and it always felt somewhat useful. if i was shadow dashing through a boss to evade attacks, it was just an added source of damage. watcher knights, hornet 2, nkg, traitor lord, hive knight, collector, and several other heavily melee oriented fights made it feel extremely cozy and really consistent at letting damage slowly but surely add up.
It has saved my sorry ass a million times from dying to stupid shit, especially in coliseum 3.
but, 4 charm slots for a charm that doesn't even double your soul generation from hitting enemies?
@@KristapsK1 its 76% , still insane
It's pretty powerful, but due to the notch cost you pretty much have to make your build around it, as opposed to soul twister which can fit in almost any build.
2:53 WHAT?! I hqve 200 hours in this game and i somehow didnt know that
Wow you're even dumber than Rusty!
And he didn't know until much later in the game
(Which would mean like 12 hours or so in game)
That The hot springs actually refills soul!
Legit how did you not think "oh! my charm is now broken; what if I talked to the one I bought it from? maybe he can FIX IT!!"!
Also

I like to make loadouts geared towards the adventure aspect of HK.
2 Compass & Gathering Swarm (convenience)
3 Grub Elegy (my reasons on this one are beyond the comprehension of morons...which means I don't know either)
1 Spore Shroom (for that weird mushroom guy)
1 Nailmaster (cause Sly)
1 DreamWielder (DN is too cumbersome otherwise)
2 Grimmchild (cause Vampire Pain-sugar Daddy)
0 Void Heart (would keep it on even if it could be removed)
Total Cost 10 means I can always throw caution to the wind and overcharm. Though most of the time I slap Dung Crest for memes.
If you can avoid getting hit most of the time and keep topped up on masks, then I see no problem with running Elegy.
@@helios2664 Nah, the reason for Elegy is to remember the fallen... Eldergrub cause when those kids are done morphing he gon' die. XD
Steady body is underrated. It allows you to increase your dps a fair bit and when fighting bosses with limited plat forms insures you won't fall off when hitting an enemy and knock your self into hazardous objects like spikes and thorns.
Steady body barely increases DPS, makes some boss tactics impossible, and you have better things to spend that notch on
steady body just makes me feel good.
being immovable against masive moss charger and moving forwards makes me feel like that chad guy
I would never dislike these videos!
Just report them
why?
@@soulwingcatshot9547 Because they're vewwy mean to me! >:(
Fragile heart exists in the normal game: perfection
Fragile heart exists in any radiant boss fight: waste of charm notches
That is the only situation you shouldn't use this charm in..that I can think of in about a minute
Idk, fragile heart is great for dream fights and steel soul, but I'm not backtracking to leg eater every time I die
@MirrorYen oh right, forgot that difficulty exists since I'm too trash to reach it
1/10 not enough insults
I swear to god that dash master + sprint master makes you so fast most enemy’s MISS their melee/spells/projectiles
i know i’m ridiculously late to this but, i recently got into hollow knight (i’m halfway through city of tears), and i completely approve your argument regarding fragile heart. literally saved my life no joke 😭
0:11 lol 😂
