    The enzo is finicky, but it does track well when you get your levels set well ( compressor helps) and get the sensitivity on the pedal dialed once that is figured out it works a lot better in my experience with the pedal. also the dry mode on enzo is awesome

      Yeah, these are great points, it is an amazing pedal! I really love its sounds! Thanks for the comment and feedback!

    I own Meris and honestly hate it because it is so capricious. Never had so many issues with midi and cpu overload as I had with it. I have C4 as well and it is great if you are ready to use an external editor or midi controller. Otherwise I would choose one of the Boss’ synth pedals.

      I had the Enzo back when it first came out and sold it because it just wasn't very intuitive like I thought it would be. I could never replicate the sounds I found again and I'm not into MIDI. Definitely think the Boss sounds better, too, and is more diverse.

    Synth pedals can make interesting sounds when combined with other effects or blended with a dry signal, but on their own they tend to be an inferior option to a real synthesizer player (if you've got one/have them) or, if not, a synth part put on a backing track. There's also routing challenges for live, as a guitar amp will typically not be the sound you're going forward, when brings in a complication to routing (i.e. a synth version of wet/dry) your pedalboard, etc. In all of this, while there's moments of 'wow that sounds cool!' it ultimately was too much time searching for sounds/toiling with gear and not enough time driving me to actually create/record music. The enzo is crippled by its interface (it needs a lot more knob per-function - the split knobs and fundamental controls left on secondary controls - begging for purchase of after-market 'control' plastic sheets) and counter-intuitive midi editor, but can sound the best. The SY-200 is just the inverse, its sounds aren't really useable enough. Your mileage my vary. Any of them are capable of making some cool ambient textures that might go well as a background pad or as an interlude between songs in a set. But ya, at the end of the day, just didn't seem worth the deep dive/hassle for me that I put into it.

      This video ended up being almost all about the tracking, which is important for synth pedals, and soon I’m going to make a video about how I use them! Hopefully it will make more sense!

    How are you feeling about the Chroma Console? I didn't even know it existed until this week, thinking about pre-ordering for their January shipment.

    • @JackSole17
      @JackSole17  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s really fun to play around with! All the effects it has seem to be really high quality as stand alone effects, but where it shines is mixing and matching effects and the effects order!
      I’m going to do a full video on it as soon as I can!

      Don't worry, that's because it didn't exist until this week. New gear hype.

      It’s exciting to see what these companies come up with, I’m really pumped to share my thoughts on the Console, but over all a great and fun pedal to play around with!
      Worth the money? To me it was, and the fun part about being a small channel is your seeing me pay full price, and to me that matters in a review, like I think some TH-camrs forget what it’s like to spend a weeks pay on a pedal!
      Anyways longs story long, it’s definitely got some hype to it aha

    The Zoom (and Meris) gives you sounds that are more accurate to the original 70s analog guitar synth pedals - poor tracking and mono limitations and all. Most more modern guitar synth pedals like the Boss have that slick late 80s/ 90s sound. With the Zoom, it helps to take advantage of the fact that you can chain effects within it. Putting a compressor in the chain before any synth effects that do pitch tracking (including simple octave effects) is key.

    I’ve been thinking about selling mine for quite a longtime now. It offers some really good sounds, but I have been feeling I can’t really control what it does or how it does at the level you can with other pedals like the LVX or the Synesthesia or even the Enzo, which are three very nice pedals in my collection that I can get the sounds I want when I need them.
    None of these is necessarily in the Microcosm category and, to be honest the microcosm is in a league of its own, but that is maybe the problem, it is a very specific niche, which I guess you can’t know until you play with it for sometime.
    Your point of view makes me think I would be good selling it as well, as it has been maybe 4 months since I plugged it in last time.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Peep the EHX Synth9. Polyphonic with great tracking. One of these days I'll get a chance to try the Boss. Thanks for the demo.
    Also, alot of these pedals will be happier with a compressor in front of them to even out the signal.

    • @JackSole17
      @JackSole17  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I’ve had some of the EHX stuff in the past and had a lot of fun with it! I really appreciate it!
      And yeah I really wish I did put a compressor on it because the levels changed a lot with the different pedals and messed with my total mix, I should have thought of that aha thanks!

    Good on you to make an in depth video but it has a lot of dead space and slow explanations that make it difficult to stay engaged. Looking back, the heart of this video is about the tracking because it’s the most important part in my opinion and I should have been more clear about that! Again tho thanks for this comment I really appreciate it!

    Any recommendations for bass guitar? I've tried a few synth pedals and they basically all sounded like crap. Didn't track, didn't have the deep bass content of a real synth either, always problems with note decay...

    • @JackSole17
      @JackSole17  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have any experience with bass through synth pedals, but I would say try the SY-200 If you haven’t yet because the tracking is as close to perfect as I’ve seen!
      And the tone and resonance controls on it I could see being able to rein in a bass! Let me know if you try it!

      @@JackSole17 I owned the SY1 back when it came out. Had fun with it, it actually tracked well even with pedals before it, but I had issues with it simply not sounding powerful. I'd make a really loud bass, taurus style sound and then it would just disappear in the mix

    • @JackSole17
      @JackSole17  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s really interesting, the Enzo has that same issue, and it doesn’t even have an output level knob so it’s not fixed able, just disappears in the mix! I should have remembered to say that in the video!
      I’ve always had more luck with bass using a fuzz into a filter pedal to get Synth like sounds!

      @@JackSole17 I have it my self already! It has knocked all my modulation pedals off of my board, it does a lot of weird things especially when I’m using two effects in parallel. It also does normal effects really well! Phaser and Dim C have been my favorite! I can’t wait to see what you can do with this pedal so I can get some inspiration off of you

    • @JackSole17
      @JackSole17  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that’s awesome! Really great to hear! Dim C is always a great chorus!

      If all you're doing is playing other people's stuff, then yeah it might not be the thing for you. That being said, if you can play guitar well and can't play (or don't want to learn) how to use a "real" synth, then a synth pedal can get you at least partway there.
