Don't get too carried away with this demo. Believe me, it doesn't play like this fresh out of the box. Be prepared for some deep diving into the menus if you want to get the tracking this good without a lot of hanging ghost notes.

its a wonderful piece of kit, as is all Boss 's gear. I have the GR 55, which is awesome. The one thing to pay attention to, is the pickup you need to fit. (stating to the obvious here). The height
(pick up to strings) is critical to how the Boss tracks each string. Alex's set up is spot on.

Glad to see you guys showing off some good stuff out there. I wholeheartedly agree with the demo being jaw dropping from the start! The GM-800 has me seriously questioning my motivations into getting into hardware synths in the last couple of years... Each of the patches sound STELLAR! And for the total price of roughly a mid-level synthesizer, I think this could be very well worth the price!

BOSS seems to be price worthy all the time imho. I took a "low price" jump into this new line of axe synths and got me a SY-1 which turned out to be a great starting point into the hardware synth world. i tried a PC software guitar->MIDI solution too which got me playing me virtual MOOG instantly ... great low cost solution for home recorders ...

Keen to watch this one as I was a GR user for many years from the GR-20/GR33 through to GR-55 as soon as it came out. The GR-55 was pretty awesome (both the COSM and Synth sounds) and I miss it dearly having sold it as I stopped gigging. Always the biggest problem with these synths has been Roland/Boss's feble attempts at supporting software and the pretty useless pre-set patches. The GR-55 was loaded with around 300 IIRC and I didn't use a single one. The GR-55 was only usable thanks to 3rd party software that massively put Roland to shame (not that they ever did anything about it) and meant you could easily produce your own patches with specific switching. It was easier just to start from scratch. That and Roland generally put the gear out and then despite the users providing feedback on improvements, just never respond. This really does piss users off! Be interesting to see if they do the same, as 10 years later they just won't get away with it.

I've had the roland gr20 and pickup for years and it has never worked to a point where I could gig with it confidently, it would drop strings, trigger sounds wrongly and was tbh a bit of a nightmare to use. I just use the controller pedal now with a u rock guitar for recording. I'd love to buy a more updated one like this but i'll wait until I hear enough reviews to convince me they have dealt with all the issues associated with midi guitar playing.

Same with using synth modeling in my pod go. Even playing slow and simple one string riffs, it messes up. But this demo looks pretty convincing.

This is great, though after all these years still requires to have that added pick up modification to a guitar. I wish they could come up with a solution that combines synth and regular guitar effects into one pedal. It is cool sounding.

How does it track vocals? It would be amazing to play guitar and simultaneous play this with your voice.

thank you for such inspiring and innovative products - you are first to demo!
may i request a separate video the connection part - from guitar to a junction box? etc. that will be helpful and do we need to purchase those items (of course!) cheers!

And another step closer to where I think they really want to get to, which is not needing the GK at all. The SY stuff is OK, but has a limited range of sounds.

I love my Boss SY1000 abnd have two guitars with the built in GK PU. Happy to see Boss included converters. This unit sounds amazing, and Alex is such a talented guy ( as is Pete ofcourse). He is THE reason for me to buy the SY1000 and most likely I'll get the new one as well. Thanks for a great demo!!

To Andertons: For us who have 13 pin synth guitars already (I have 3), how about a demo of the Boss GKC-AD, the 13 pin to serial converter. We would be more interested in the GM-800 if we 13 pin owners knew these converters work well. Please? Thank you.

I second your request. I have two guitars (Godin XTSA and Fender GC1) and a seperate GK3, which came with a GP10 and remains unused.

My box tonelab (2004) had midi out . And it can be set up to play a synth .
Perhaps this is more accurate though with the specialized pickup.

I love how Pete throws his little jokes in there and then looks at the camera. It reminds me of Benny Hill, because he used to do the same thing lol. 😂😂
