Just purchased a P9 yesterday and I must say it's a beautiful handset. My friend has the G5 and another friend has the S7 edge. I still think I've made the right choice. Doing a speed test (loading apps at the same time ect...) they seem to be identical. The main reason I went for the P9 was due to the camera, going away twice in the next 6 months and want to capture some epic slow motion video's (going to a sporting event) and catching some nice snaps when I go on holiday. I would say your review is very accurate, I picked it up for £300 and considering the LG G5 is selling for around £500+ and the s7 edge selling for around £600+ I think I've made the right decision. If you want a top of the range handset and money isn't an issue then go for the S7 edge, if you're looking for something as close to that but more affordable the I would 100% recommend the Huawei P9.
Got mine on launch with Three and love it. As a photographer, the camera is the best I've used on a phone, and with it for the B&W sensor alone. I'm enjoying EMUI, didn't think I would, but it's really good. Won't go back to Samsung after using a Huawei. It actually feels like something special.
It's not as good as S7 but way better than the G5. Shooting in Pro mode and in raw really produces amazing photos. The colors in the photos seems to be more natural with the P9 compared to G5 and S7.
i own a p9 i have to day worth every cent it may not exactly be an apple or Samsung but it's a whole different class emui is not complete shit it's better than the boring and ordinary stock Android interface buy a p9 you will love it
you mention it doesn't have fast charging. it does. it has the type c 3.1 charger. I have this after HTC let me down. choice well made. absolutely gorgeous and a brilliant phone with many many brilliant features, tips and tricks.
it has the port for fast-charging, but it doesn't take advantage of it on the software side (it doesn't charge any faster than a non-'fast-charging' phone, despite having the type c port.
The Tech Chap it does support fast charging, Huawei don't supply a quick charger for some reason. Try it with a fast charger and you will get a full battery in about an hour. Trust me.
Adrian Bordoy ofc like anything it depends on your use. but If I don't use it for youtube a hole lot.. then I can get around 2 days out of it. And it charges from empty too full in about 2 -2½ hours. So I think that its pretty good
It is pretty damn good if you are into manual mode, otherwise the automode is very nice but not quite in the Google Pixel Level... Still, if you can get it for a good price, I think the camera will serve you well...
More than likely going to stick with Nexus for a long time, but forgetting that, yeah I would give them a shot. Wife's got the Nexus 6p and it does quite well.
I picked mine up on Friday there from Vodafone and came with a good case and free Huawei smartwatch! And with my wife's discount through her work got 10gb data unlimited everything else only £32 a month! Great deal for a great phone in my opinion! Compared to my lg g4 I would say the g4 camera is a little better in lower light! But the Huawei p9 still takes a great shot especially in daylight which most of mine are... Just casual shots on days out! But one massive difference from the g4 is the quality of the audio through earphones! I was shocked when I compared them.... The Huawei sounds miles better than the g4! Still getting to know the p9 but so far I'm well impressed.... Especially with the deal I got lol keep up the good work techchap 👍

i agree, but only for taking pics because i tried to compare it with my iphone 6plus by recording video 1080p 60fps , what i saw is that iphone does better in recording, p9 video recording sucks to be honest thats why im sticking with iphone, but p9 wifi and buffering is much much faster than i phone i was going for it bcoz it loads everything faster than iphone 6 and 6plus however only the video recording made me cancel it. waiting for the iphone 7 if its faster than p9 than going for it if not than i will probably buy p9

I was waiting to buy the OnePlus 3T, but I bought a P9 because my girlfriend needed dual SIM support for her business and we were living outside of China at the time so couldn't easily get one. So I bought the p9 for her and took her 6s. After a couple of months we switched phones because of some issues Huawei has with QQ...as an Apple fanboy I was disappointed at first. The 6s is an awesome mobile, but after using the P9 for a week or so, I have to say I prefer it. It looks fresh compared to the iPhones I've been using for the past 7 years. Ergonomically, it's fantastic. Feels great to hold and use. Android itself feels so refreshing after years of iOS...no iTunes! Being able to change themes is a nice touch!
You can fast charge this thing. You don't get the fast charger in the box however ( Though I believe you do get one in the box of the honor 8 , which is basically the same phone). You can pick one up on eBay for less than a tenner with the correct cable (genuine huawei). It's a 9V 2A fast charge, not as good as QC3.0 I don't think and certainly not a patch on dash charge from Oneplus. But the reckon you can get 40% done in 30 minutes, which is better than nothing.
Thanks for that great synopsis.I ordered mine from EE, £22 a month with 5 times my average usage.Got it for the camera,on manual the camera is way ahead in low light conditions, underneath the noise images are sharp with no unrealistic brightening of images and cartoony colours a la Samsung 7..my 10 year old said colours on Samsung photos look weird!,thats good enough for me..lol

The P9 in UK has some very good deals. Looking at one for myself on Three but not sure about the text size/options. In the shop I set the text to large in the settings but this did not seem to affect much. Notifications text is very small still. Tech Chap - can you comment on the text/accessibility options. I need reading glasses but prefer a large screen phone so I don't need my glasses for most tasks.
+Robert Skett I no longer have the phone (it was a review sample), so I can't check unfortunately but you can always install a third party theme from the launcher (one optimised for bigger text/icons) - but all android phones have accessibility features so I would suspect the P9 would still be a good option for you
Real nice review Tom :D I do like the external looks of the P9 but the stock skin looks far too much like iOS (or tries too), and I would be willing to bet it gets very few updates due to that. It seems very snappy too, but no quick/wireless charging sucks :/
It does support fast charging, Huawei for some unknown reason supply it with a normal charger. Just buy a fast charger and enjoy a full battery in approximately 1 hour

QHD is just for marketing purpose. Most people can see the difference between FHD and QHD in that screen size. The screen is just too small to see the difference.

I'm a Telecom test engineer , my 5 colleagues and self all found the Exynos in Galaxy 7 about 7- 9 % faster than the snapdragon 820 across 86% of the 89 tests we ran QED..this seems a strange strategy of Samsung..2 chips?
I am finding the black border a bit annoying, it also feels a little like plastic on the back no where near as nice as htc phones. now saying all that I do like it and it's fast with a great mono chrome camera and fingerprint reader is super quick. But last few days I have still found me using my year old g4 more, maybe I'm missing the screen size. I got the p9 for £300 from Vodafone on payg so fantastic price.

P9 plus is coming to UK sometimes in June. its 5.5 (cant wait for it) bought my p9 in black so bezel it not the problem just missing that extra screen size as moved from galaxy note 3 :-)
thanks! That's a tough question but personally I would go with the P9. OnePlus have really poor customer service if anything goes wrong and a lot of people report that after 6 months they really start to slow down. I'm a big fan of the P9 on the other hand.

If I could transfer my whatsapp/viber/and other messages, I would change my iphone6 for the P9+ today, with no question. Unfortunately, I am chained, as I can't transfer iOS stuff into an android phone..so I change for android and then I can't see my chat histories as long as I do a back up on another iPhone somewhere in the future, or, I will never change no matter how much I want to.. So annoying!
Huawei P9 is much faster than every snapdragon 820 device you can make speed test and check that .. LG G5 is laggy and so is HTC 10 .. they take ages to open a simple game like subway surfer or temple run

I disagree. The pictures this phone can take are stunning. Loads better than anything I've used before.
it does produce good pictures - but not as good as the S7/G5/iPhone 6S (which are similarly priced)
i think the p9 can produce better pics than the G5, and it is like 70 $ less

You can by one 30% less than a S7 on contract, with less than 5% difference in processing speed , which does make it considering.

Because of the patents issue(Qualcomm), Exynos chipset can't be sell in the US market.

huawei very bad, they never update the operating system, i have huawei mate 7 befor one year and they never make any apdate, and still working on android kitkat
