that's a software problem. somwthing went wrong with an exposure. there are special camera apps for andriod that will give an ability to set iso and exposure if your phone doesnt do it well and wont give you the control over it btw, back in a day, in ~2011, HTC phones had the perfect camera apps. you could set everything by yourself if you didnt like the automatical settings, it was possible to take a good shots even without the perfect cameras. i dont know why standart android cameras do not have this setting now though.
The dual lens works when you use the aperture mode. The same concept Google implements their Google camera with the same Depth of Field feature. It doesnt output shots simultaneously but references the other image to get the depth of field of the scene.

I've had my P9 for 3 days now and I just wanted to point out a few errors in the vid. (thanks for posting this vid by the way - it actually helped with my decision to get the P9!) The video DOES have Image Stabilisation - With the camera switched to video, it is the last option in the settings in the right hand menu. Also - it DOES use both lenses at the same time, but only when you have the Depth Of Field mode enabled.When in this mode, if you set a shallow depth of field and focus on something on your desk such as keyboard and mouse, when you cover the outer lens, the software driven bokeh effect actually disappears from the screen, bringing everything into focus, as you have removed its ability to measure depth through the second lens. Take your finger way again, and the effect comes back.I believe this is the only time it uses both lenses. in all other modes, it either uses the main, colour lens, OR the B&W one.Hope this helps any potential buyers!

For still shots, most phones are excellent nowadays. I prefer HTC cameras for stills though, but Samsung wins for best cameras in general aside from great quality, which they have in all aspects.
S7 Edge is a beast. Most 2018 mid-range phones still do not have features such as optical image stabilization or 240 fps 720p video recording, not to mention that screen quality.
This video only shows the video side of things. The P9 camera takes amazing still shots and in my opinion wins over the galaxy in that regard. So it really depends on what you need, do you want better stills go for P9, better video go for S7. Just my opinion.

So wrong ,p9 cameras only work together when you use depth of field effect. You should have known that before making this video bashing it. Watermark can also be removed from photos. Videos on p9 aren't good ,but everyone who buy it ,already knows that if he has done proper research. I ve done comparison with friends s7 on still photos ..over saturation and noice... You won't miss if you use properly pro mode on p9.

Actually the Huawei said that the monochrome sensor is used to capture more light,and when you cover the monochrome sensor the video get a little bit dark.You can't refuse that dual camera isn't a useful feature if it's improve by the time.
do your research before you review a product. it never claimed to use the dual camera when taking video. and there is a certain mode to put it in to use the dual camera when taking pictures.
great video, personally, i prefered the huawei p9 even without 4k or OIS it still looked sharp and with a bit clear image without that much glare as in the s7 and YES the lenses are both working in the P9 and they do improve the image, there is even a video on youtube with a photography expert in wich he separated both images and it does show how the images get improved by using the 2 sensors!

However, I think Samsung this year nailed it, they produced the best smartphone ever,which is the galaxy s7 and s7-edge. you didn't compare the B&W and that's a major area of difference that the p9 is differencing itself from other cameras. Leica is a 'still image photography' brand, not a video brand. you would buy the p9 for taking still images - not video. This is where the comparison could have been of more value.
most people give the main camera to S7 and front one to P9. Sure the S7 rear was more capable, with OIS, more resolution and superior slow motion; however, the EIS evens the ground quite a lot for the P9, and the colours were also better in P9 rather than S7 with its blown up greens all over the place, also, did you noticed how the P9 focused the sun with no flare? that is also quite impressive. In the end, I also think the S7 rear camera is better, but I also think it is a much closer call than everybody gives; IMHO, the ability to take image without flare is more important than shooting at massive resolution that I will barely use and will take a big chunk of my storage.

The p9 has one of the best exposure and color reproducing cameras on the market right now. Just go and see Juan's real camera review to fully judge it's capabilities. Admittedly, video is not the best, but the stills are better than the competition.

The only meaningful P9 camera review is done by Juan. Please also note the water mark function is by default turned off. You can turn it on as well as customize it.
Could it be that you recorded Huawei P9 video in 720p? It looks much blurrier than S7. Shooting both phones in 1080p during daylight should have showed incredible sharpness (colour and saturation might be different), not one sharp and one blurry

Go to around the 2:50 mark and you'll see that the P9's colors are more saturated and if you look at the sky the S7's representations of it is a lot more accurate And I'm not being a fanboy, I'm just giving my opinion, how about you stop being a hater?

I have a P9, and I like the camera(s) on it. Covering the colored one while shooting doesn't necessarily mean it'll show b/w, because the software chooses not to show what the b/w lens is looking at. When in low light, I did the same test, covering the b/w lens, you can very clearly see when it's uncovered, there are a lot more details showing. Not trying to say it's better than the s7, because they aren't on the same specs, also the s7 is much more expensive than the p9, but for what you pay, and for what it is, it takes amazing photos.
So happy to see such an objective test. I'll now search out your tests on phone items I (personally) need more - battery & durability. FYI: Germany - A member of Parliament proposes outlawing cell phones without replaceable batteries- Would you buy a car without a replaceable battery? Environmentally - it makes no sense especially given #s of cell phones sent to the graveyard.
You should switch on your brain before talking. No, not both lenses are used at the same time (why the hell should they if you use the normal mode. No bw is needed there. But if you switch to the 2-lens Mode, both are used so you can do extremely cool shots and control depth of field. Also the monochrom camera is delivering WAY better B&W images as samsung delivers with the S7 (just desaturated color images) as it is in fact monochrome Funny how the Image quality of the lower P9 settings is busting the samsung "4k" which is nothing than filtered 1080p sharpened....
DigitArtClips Jerry better make a follow-up where he do some proper testing of the p9. I am rather disappointed right now and would have expected better tests from Jerry. 98% of all other reviews from dedicated phone channels say the p9 is on par with most 2016 high end phones. From the footage there the pictures and video looked fine to really good.
I have tried covering up the BW lens on my P9 and took some photos indoors. There is a difference. The uncovered BW lens photo is definitely brighter. When you cover the BW lens the camera warns you so it must be using it. When you cover the color lens, I expect you don't see a BW image because it is using the gathered light information for the composition for the color image only. It is difficult to explain but I think it is not using that BW lens as camera lens but using it as a sensor. When you select Monochrome it is then used as a camera lens to produce a BW image. I am disappointed that the S7 has the better camera in some ways as I nearly bought one but listening to the news today it sounds like some S7's are doing what Note 7 is doing. Becoming a 'Samsung hand Grenade'! I feel safer with the P9 and my trusty 5x.

I recently had a chance to play with p9 and i tested that if dual lenz does anything or not and i realized that if you cover the monochrome lenz the image become a little bit noisy compare to dual setup and i think it does something...
Few issues with this video... Firstly, the watermark is NOT on by default - that means you've delved into the settings and turned an OPTIONAL feature on and implied that Huawei have it on by default. Secondly, the front facing camera shoots at 1080p, not just 720p as suggested
Jerry did this comparison with just one idea , that is to warn us against believing Huawei' claims. Otherwise, it serves no purpose to compare these 2 cameras. If their DSLR advt is any indication, it is no surprise that the P9 camera is just "co-engineered". If P9 used the B&W information in video too, it would have made it a better phone. Finally, if one wants a good selfie phone he would go for others cameras, not S7 and certainly not P9. So, this front camera comparison should be taken as routine.
Actually the monochrome sensor helps retaining more details when it comes to taking pictures... but because it is much MUCH more difficult to combining the coloured picture and the monochrome one to produce one image, than just combining 2 coloured photos(which is the method used to produce higher-quality, less noisy and more detailed pictures on Honor 6 Plus) the difference between the picture taken with the both sensors and the one with just RGB sensor is kept minimum. Oh, and about that watermark...it is not very cool to complain about something you can just disable through the settings menu on the camera app. Many people find it acceptable, like me.

on the p9 I can change ISO shutter speed all that stuff. I can even change the ISO on the front camera

The sun part shows how much better the lens on the Huawei phone is
its called filtering. the s7 blocks the rays to allow for clear shot of the face. but yes it does look unnatural.

most people give the main camera to S7 and front one to P9. Sure the S7 rear was more capable, with OIS, more resolution and superior slow motion; however, the EIS evens the ground quite a lot for the P9, and the colours were also better in P9 rather than S7 with its blown up greens all over the place, also, did you noticed how the P9 focused the sun with no flare? that is also quite impressive. In the end, I also think the S7 rear camera is better, but I also think it is a much closer call than everybody gives; IMHO, the ability to take image without flare is more important than shooting at massive resolution that I will barely use and will take a big chunk of my storage.

The p9 has one of the best exposure and color reproducing cameras on the market right now. Just go and see Juan's real camera review to fully judge it's capabilities. Admittedly, video is not the best, but the stills are better than the competition.

The only meaningful P9 camera review is done by Juan. Please also note the water mark function is by default turned off. You can turn it on as well as customize it.

Could it be that you recorded Huawei P9 video in 720p? It looks much blurrier than S7. Shooting both phones in 1080p during daylight should have showed incredible sharpness (colour and saturation might be different), not one sharp and one blurry

Also the color tones on the rear P9 camera is not all that accurate compared to the S7. Go to around the 2:50 mark and you'll see that the P9's colors are more saturated and if you look at the sky the S7's representations of it is a lot more accurate

I have a P9, and I like the camera(s) on it. Covering the colored one while shooting doesn't necessarily mean it'll show b/w, because the software chooses not to show what the b/w lens is looking at. When in low light, I did the same test, covering the b/w lens, you can very clearly see when it's uncovered, there are a lot more details showing. Not trying to say it's better than the s7, because they aren't on the same specs, also the s7 is much more expensive than the p9, but for what you pay, and for what it is, it takes amazing photos.
So happy to see such an objective test. I'll now search out your tests on phone items I (personally) need more - battery & durability. FYI: Germany - A member of Parliament proposes outlawing cell phones without replaceable batteries- Would you buy a car without a replaceable battery? Environmentally - it makes no sense especially given #s of cell phones sent to the graveyard.

You should switch on your brain before talking. No, not both lenses are used at the same time (why the hell should they if you use the normal mode. No bw is needed there. But if you switch to the 2-lens Mode, both are used so you can do extremely cool shots and control depth of field. Also the monochrom camera is delivering WAY better B&W images as samsung delivers with the S7 (just desaturated color images) as it is in fact monochrome
Funny how the Image quality of the lower P9 settings is busting the samsung "4k" which is nothing than filtered 1080p sharpened....

DigitArtClips Jerry better make a follow-up where he do some proper testing of the p9. I am rather disappointed right now and would have expected better tests from Jerry. 98% of all other reviews from dedicated phone channels say the p9 is on par with most 2016 high end phones. From the footage there the pictures and video looked fine to really good.
I have tried covering up the BW lens on my P9 and took some photos indoors. There is a difference. The uncovered BW lens photo is definitely brighter. When you cover the BW lens the camera warns you so it must be using it. When you cover the color lens, I expect you don't see a BW image because it is using the gathered light information for the composition for the color image only. It is difficult to explain but I think it is not using that BW lens as camera lens but using it as a sensor. When you select Monochrome it is then used as a camera lens to produce a BW image.
I am disappointed that the S7 has the better camera in some ways as I nearly bought one but listening to the news today it sounds like some S7's are doing what Note 7 is doing. Becoming a 'Samsung hand Grenade'! I feel safer with the P9 and my trusty 5x.

I recently had a chance to play with p9 and i tested that if dual lenz does anything or not and i realized that if you cover the monochrome lenz the image become a little bit noisy compare to dual setup and i think it does something...
Few issues with this video... Firstly, the watermark is NOT on by default - that means you've delved into the settings and turned an OPTIONAL feature on and implied that Huawei have it on by default. Secondly, the front facing camera shoots at 1080p, not just 720p as suggested

The contrast and colors on the P9 are much, much better, but on every other aspect the s7 wins.
Jerry did this comparison with just one idea , that is to warn us against believing Huawei' claims. Otherwise, it serves no purpose to compare these 2 cameras. If their DSLR advt is any indication, it is no surprise that the P9 camera is just "co-engineered". If P9 used the B&W information in video too, it would have made it a better phone. Finally, if one wants a good selfie phone he would go for others cameras, not S7 and certainly not P9. So, this front camera comparison should be taken as routine.

the dual camera setup I think is just for "stills"..... not video.
Actually the monochrome sensor helps retaining more details when it comes to taking pictures... but because it is much MUCH more difficult to combining the coloured picture and the monochrome one to produce one image, than just combining 2 coloured photos(which is the method used to produce higher-quality, less noisy and more detailed pictures on Honor 6 Plus) the difference between the picture taken with the both sensors and the one with just RGB sensor is kept minimum.
Oh, and about that watermark...it is not very cool to complain about something you can just disable through the settings menu on the camera app. Many people find it acceptable, like me.
