I met Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca when they played The Shelter in Detroit back in '03. They actually came out in the crowd and talked with my buddies and me. Like we were all old friends. No one skipped a beat. And it was awesome! To this day, I remember that time perfectly. I loved them before that, but that moment sealed the deal for me. These guys are not just AMAZING musicians and songwriters, they're also good people who care to get to know people. I always appreciated that. 😊❤🎶
I saw them for thr first time last week and matthew just comes to the crowd after the show. I got to meet him and it was so cool. He was just genuinely kind and I appreciated his patience while I kinda geeked out.

Fuck. I realize more and more what years and decades can do to a man by watching this. This is beautiful and I just respect getting older even more. I’m 33 and this has been one of my favorite bands since 1996
Saw them in 97 and 2012 in zurich and lucerne, and same like in this liveperformance they didnt miss a note or a beat. Awesome musicians. Let go might as well could be a best of album. Its perfect...
Brazil 2004 at Urbano Club, one of the best shows of my life. I remember hearing Icebox live, what a gig.... Thanks for existing and cheering me at the quarentine.
I was such a fan when I was 20. I travelled a couple of times to see them, met them and talked to them each time... Seeing you here 20 years older and still playing together, and playing the old stuff makes me so happy :-) @Ira I still have your drum sticks. My youth is full of memories and singing Nada Surf is part of them.
Had no idea this was on TH-cam, thank you thank you thank you!!! "Let go"was the soundtrack of my life in a very difficult time I went through and Nada Surf are one of my favourite bands ever.
Love this band. Saw them a bunch of times in NYC. Had a Marcia Brady moment when I bumped into Ira before the show. He kissed me on my cheek and I swooned! Haha! I recently moved to Denver. Hope they play out here, too!
Matthew is quite diplomatic concerning Nada Surf's deteriorating relationship with Elektra. Daniel cut straight to the chase basically condemning the label and inadvertantly, the corporate side of the professional music industry. Love it. They may not be super-famous, but they are living a life that most aspiring artists dream of: To consistently make a living with their art. I'm glad Elektra irritated them; they decided to become real artists and not corporate shills.
Yeah, Nada Surf is more popular in Europe although they still sell out 400 seat clubs in the states. But yeah. Neglecta sucks..Butch Walker of Marvelous 3 has less than glamorous stories about those fools.
plus: the proximity effect is a great album, I consider it way better then high/low and it was dropped because there's "no hit" as Popular. I mean, what? Hyperspace???????????? C'mon. I actually don't love popular, i skip it. Hahaha. They're a great band. Saw them in Brazil back in 2004 in my not so large city (1,5m hab) and every person in their audience knew their lyrics. They were amazed
It always a pleasure to ear your songs charged in energie in toulouse or kexp. Hope we ll come in France...it s a pleasure to cook french fries and cook 😁. Merci
I’ve listened to these songs hundreds of times since the early 2000’s. It’s probably the only album on Apple Music where I’ve favorited every single song. This may be my favorite album of all time though I hate to picking favorites like that. On any case my point is I don’t know these guys names. I don’t know anything about the band besides the song Popular putting them on the map. I’ve never bothered to look it up. In fact this is the first time I’ve ever seen them play live. Feels weird saying that, but it’s the truth. When Let Go was released it I was just married. On the verge of having my first child. But it had already reminded me of a past I just left behind. Many of these songs still rip me apart when I hear them. Thank you Nada Surf. For this poetry.
Saw them three times. They fished with stalemate into Love will tear us apart. This last show at Mr Smalls, they played Hyperspace.,....... What a fun song, even during COVID. I got my hands on high/low on vinyl!
Great idea to play this record in full, I still play CDs when I am chilling at home but usually jump songs. Go Betweens and rem records I will just let play, most Idaho CDs, this CD, Neko Case's masterpiece Fox Confessor. This is a gem and it sounds great in the KEXP studio
saw them this year live. one of daniels base-strings ripped during a song. the band kept playing. the roadie tried to fix it but daniel was like "nah kid, i got this" . daniel changed the string during the song super fast and joined for the last few seconds. what an awesome concert!!
I got this album in Tower Records NYC, I thought back in the day “this is Nada surf on another level” didn’t like it that much...big mistake it became my favorite album and still one of those Gems that I can repeat it without getting tired of listening from beginning to an end...True Killians Red is such a Sick track
When Popular came out, I was head over heels for these guys. Then they kind of disappeared. And I sadly forgot about them. Til my friend got me back into them in 2003. He let me borrow their albums up to that time (Let Go being brand new). Holy smokes!! Popular is still a great song of my teen years but to use Popular to describe them does nothing. The experience is much deeper than that. Since 2003, I have been in love with their music. It truly makes me happy. I'm glad you fell in love with them. They're music is something special.
I discovered them about 2005-06 when I joined MySpace and somehow (one of their tracks posted as a stream to a friend’s page?) I found their official music page and listened to tracks off “The Weight is a Gift” (which has just come out) and was so profoundly struck that I went out and bought the CD. I still love that album, but was too apprehensive to buy any of their others in case the songwriting wasn’t as excellent etc (I didn’t want to be let down). Then I found a used CD of “Let Go” in a thrift shop in like 2018, and for a buck or two I took a chance. Best chance I ever took on a rock album! I’m now a huge fan. To witness them performing this entire classic album live, with such excellent audio quality and superb musicianship 15 years later, plus a few added twists here and there, is amazing. Thank you, thank you.
Back when this masterpiece was released I played it on and on and on and on. It really speaks for the band they came back to completely play the record. You gotta love Nada Surf... E>
The big difference for myself is that now I'm on 5-MeO-DIPT (no negative influence, though it's way spacier than an astronaut will ever be...)... by the way, Fruit Fly is my all time favourite Nada Surf song... of all time... ever.
J'ai decouvert Nada Surf en 2010 avec le titre 'Always Love' sur Game One et depuis je suis 'la pour ca' :p I got to say Mathew Caws is like fine wine.
This record is the perfect flow to a night when youre a teen with all the ups and downs in the moment but at the end all your friends left and its Paper Boats closing you out. Well, maybe its life
I have a feeling that as long as people know about their songs, their songs will continue to endure as they’re quite well written. You can’t say that about every band.
One of the most underrated bands ever
I don't normally watch live performances, but I watch this over and over because it's amazing!
Blonde on Blonde breaks my heart every time....
Killian's Red is not only my favorite track on the album, but one of my all time favorites.
Beatiful gloomy song
me too, the bass
An important song throughout my years...
It's a great song
Probably my favorite song on an album filled with great songs. "Fruit Fly" is high on the list.
one of my favorite voices: Matthew Caws. What a wonderful singer.
I met Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca when they played The Shelter in Detroit back in '03. They actually came out in the crowd and talked with my buddies and me. Like we were all old friends. That's super cool. I only know them from their chart hit popular, but I'd like to get into more of their other music... Any tips on where to start?

It’s cool to see how many other people love this band.
When you put out a cool album like LET GO, it's hard NOT to love them.
I remember this album being released in 2002 as if it were yesterday, and goddamn does this still stand, after now 20 years

Je partage cet avis après 20 ans de continuité )))
I'm a Happy Kid when I hear Nada Surf on KEXP and I feel Inside of Love like Paper Boats.
Soundtrack of my life
I just love their sound and Matthew's voice. Always have. Just saw them live and they've still got it! ❤
Yeah, I saw them last week. It was amazing!
Nada Surf, i fucking love you! Can't wait to see you live again!

A band that will never disappoints.
Like KEXP.
I'm always amazed that Matthew Caws seems to have not changed at all over the years. Still so smooth.
Exactly! It is impressive.
An apple a day… 🍎
he's actually more handsome than he was in his 30s when I first met him here in Brazil. Aged super well

I agree with the host: Killian's Red is also my favorite song on Let Go. It's fantastic and it always takes me a while to recover from it.
i remember going through cases of killians after some tuff times, listening to this album
Not a feelgood song but amazingly beatiful
One of my favorite bands! And Matthew Caws is very special. Thank you all for giving us amazing music. Timeless.
Yes, his voice is angelic

I feel that same feeling. indescribable happiness.
Saw these guys in Boston this year for this show. The encores were longer than Let’s Go itself. One of the best live shows I’ve seen in my life!
I remember the day I bought this record. It brings back so many parts of what my life was back then. We love you Nada Surf!!!

Me too! I blast that one all the way 👍
What a HUGE gift for this weekend, thank you so much for sharing this!!!
Thank you for that KEXP
Thanks KEXP for bringing back old memories
There have been very few perfect albums, but I would consider "Let Go" to be one of them. There is not a single bad song on the album.
The Promixity Effect is my favorite of theirs

2. Nada Surf - Let Go
3. Nirvana - Nevermind

Truely, one of the greatest bands out there. Let go was an album par excellence.
The album „Let go“ is just majestic - a word I learned from Ira to describe such impressive creations like this album is!
I love this album it’s been twenty years and still listen to the whole album. Never skipped the album ever!
