Things I like (very much) about this video: -Stuart's laughs and his cheerful tone -Scottish accent -All the songs -Seeing them all perform (especially the drummer) -Quality of the production -Possibly everything else in the video Cheers
Was just thinking the same thing about Stuart - every time you see him performing he is taking such obvious joy in his work, which is such a refreshing change, and particularly surprising for a middle-aged glaswegian.
Dumbfounded at how awesome this recording is. Sounds BETTER than the album recording. Mogwai truly is "bigger than words and wider than pictures. If the stars had a sound, it would sound like this"
Y'no, they were slated at the time for that - the audacity of such a self-reference in the opening seconds of a debut album "If someone said that Mogwai were the stars I would not object"... but the "music is bigger than words and wider than pictures" idea has stayed with me for 20 years, and been massively important to me.. so as it turns out, they were right!
Yeah, I recall the balls on them when they first arrived. I'm only 35 mins from where they are from, so I 'got' a lot of the references in titles, but when they opened in the way they did, imperfect but perfect, "If someone said that is Mogwai at the stars, I would not object. If the stars had a sound, they would sound like this!" Sucked me in. I was like, lemme hear the stars....shieeeet! I heard the stars. Arab Strap were only 15/20 mins from where I came from and they spoke our language - Mogwai, Arab Strap, Bis, The Delgados, Belle and Sebastian etc (while not reaching towards Snow Patrol/The Reindeer Section etc) - so relative! If I could choose music to be into when I was in my teens, it would be these core Scottish bands, some everyday 'rave tapes', Ride (saw them play Nowhere last week!), Gene, Geneva, Big Black, Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis. Then i hit MBV/The Fall/Faust around the same time and it changed everything. I still believe the so called 'difficult 2nd album' to be mogwai's best and most seamless drama. However, I have never come across a band such as Mogwai. They do not make bad albums...Fact!
For real, I wish more of my favourite bands played live sessions in the KEXP studio! Also wish bands like EITS played more songs. Absolutely incredible
50 years old now, seen mogwai countless time's! NEVER EVER EVER, FAIL TO DELIVER! 🎉 From the early day's in the liquid rooms, when Stuart questioned his safety due to being a celtic supporter. And being in the crowd amongst hibs casuals...being a dufc fan!😂 they still delivered! And always have! 🏴❤
One of my favourite things about this band is that despite having 25 years experience of creating emotionally captivating soundscapes, they are all incredibly humourous and easy-going. A lot of the song titles in their studio album discography derive from inside jokes and funny incidents that they witnessed/were a part of. When I heard the origin of the 'Every Country's Sun' title I died laughing. Never change Mogwai.
I couldn't find the correct words to describe my feelings bout Mogwai... so, all the coments bellow did it for me, in ways that really honor this amazing group! Love you people and all you amazing music! ♥🤘
That's what Mogwai do musically even at there loudest they manage to make music that can crush your soul ....in a good or bad way depending on your perspective .
Years ago I was browsing Mogwai's Wikipedia page and I read that the band members also worked as male models. I've always been the guy who loves dropping fun facts about bands, and I remember telling people this. This was in the early days of Wiki, before I learned that much of the information can be bogus. In any case, great band.
Mogwai is a best postrock band for me. I almost listen Mogwai tracks every day. I have feeling such as thinking about my dreams, peace, unspoken words and etc. I just can say Great!
I first heard 'Yes, I Am A Long Way From Home' on KCMU in '94. It's a joy to see this video now knowing what the band has accomplished. Hardcore never dies.
When you think that you've finally got to the point where you can easily understand English native speakers talking and then you hear someone speaking with a Scottish accent. Feels like I just unlearnt some of my English skills. :D With that being said, glad to hear Mogwai on KEXP. 😍 It feels unreal to actually SEE them playing their music.
I´m not an English native speaker. I love both their music and their accent in spite of the struggling to figure out what the heck he is saying! As Matt LaForce says, don`t feel bad! I went to see them here in Argentina and it was even worse! hahaha
Indudablemente me vuelan la cabeza desde no sé ya cuánto tiempo... Muero por verlos en vivo otra vez, es una experiencia inexplicable!! Maldita pandemia que nos priva de estar ahí, viajando con éstos fenómenos!
Every chance I've had to see Mogwai live they've been playing newer albums in full. At this point I've just accepted that I'll never get to hear them play their best songs live.
1. God they are good 2. God the KEXP crew is amazing 3. I love that Stuart's rocking the Killing an Arab shirt that he got from Amoeba in the "What's In My Bag?" related video that was recommended to me. I'm reluctant to say it, but *this* feels a little like the future I wanted to expect.
Magnífico, de lo mejor que he escuchado. Buen gusto, buenos músicos y compositores. Están en un nivel superlativo, felicitaciones desde la Costa Atlántica, Buenos Aires.
Hugorr: no they were not. Young Team came out in 1997 and was (In my opinion) the stepstone of what we call "post rock". Along with f#a# from Godspeed You Black Emperor that very same year ;)
Wow been a fan for a long time. Never thought they could pull it all of live. Nothing wrong with tracs pre-recorded used. No different than dj and samples
Bar none, one of the most professional, tight and masterful bands I’ve ever seen live.
This drummer.... OMG. You can just see the music pouring right out of her soul in that performance.
R u sure she wanna be called 'her'? Ask her pronouns first i think. Kidding. Nobody cares. Hahah stellar drumming! Yiiih
She’s the stand In drummer and she’s exceptional, had the pleasure of seeing her play with mogwai live. ❤
Yes, in all her performances
She's the drummer from Honeyblood - She's phenomenal.
She’s the drummer for Texas now
Whoever did the sound for this needs to be given a medal. Brilliant
Agreed! The whole set is amazing
ESP since they’re the loudest band on earth. Or at least they used to be.
@@fancykarlmarx yep saw them last year in Manchester, had to take my hearing aids out otherwise they would have exploded
@@fancykarlmarx I saw them earlier this year in Sydney and my hearing only came back properly after 2 days, and i wasn't even near the speakers

things i don't like:
when it ended
It's kinda like they're a bunch of awesome dudes.
Was just thinking the same thing about Stuart - every time you see him performing he is taking such obvious joy in his work, which is such a refreshing change, and particularly surprising for a middle-aged glaswegian.
The drummer is Cat Myers, who was covering for Martin Bulloch who apparently hurt his back and couldn't join the tour. She does and awesome job.
@@DamnedConservatives Lesbian looking lady does indeed do excellent drumming
one of the best bands to ever exist. I've never heard anything quite like mogwai
23:00 the version of Every Countries Sun is one of the most soaring Mogwai songs I’ve ever heard. Masterpiece.
I've fallen in love with the drummer. What a passion, what a skill...what an artist!
I remember seeing them live at a festival and I still remember the drums the most.
Love the drummer. The snare sound is amazing. It kind of glues the whole thing together...
Also, as she isn't their 'regular' drummer, extra kudos for being so awesome.
Cat Myers
I'm madly in love with Cat❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@OhFattKitty Cat Myers...my wife🤭

This studio is epic. It's like you rediscover a band anytime they play there
For real, I wish more of my favourite bands played live sessions in the KEXP studio! Also wish bands like EITS played more songs. Absolutely incredible
for me simply the best band alive in the world at the moment...
Can’t get over how their bass player strums. Fucking magical!
So hypnotic
I love everything about this.
- textural telecasters
- tasteful synth lines
- rock solid drumming
- instrumental crescendos
- driving bass with neatly arranged licks
- snare fills
- downstroking
- bold tremolo and delay
- top-notch musicianship

Like with "Don't Believe the Fyfe"...hysterical
I've been listening to Mogwai for more than 20 years and this makes me cry. They're my all time favorite band along with GYBE
I 2nd tht i remember buyin my first mogwai album ! Gybe can't forget a silver mt zion and tra lala band!
Mogwai is what GYBE could have been if they were cool and less pretentious
me also
I heard them since their first album release YOUN TEAM
I saw them both in the same weekend last year. Imagine that
good for you. I've been listening to MOGWAI for 5 years. very very impressive

Mogwai and Slowdive in a Month, Cheers KEXP!
How was it?
one great, one shite
Struggling to put into words how incredible this version of Every Country's Sun is.
It’s a beautiful song, I’ve had the pleasure of hearing it live a few times but this studio is possibly the best sounding ever.
0:13 Crossing The Road Material
6:30 Party In The Dark
16:21 Don't Believe the Fife
23:00 Every Country's Sun
I'm 45 and I finally have the patience to listen to this type of music. Yes! I win. Sounds amazing on my headphones.

Mogwai are the masters of making grown music lovers cry ❤
Stuart is wearing the Cure shirt he got from the Amoeba "What's in my bag?" video. Nice.
total feels. Total music. Total performance. Mogwai forever
With a number one album, hopefully they can afford that castle now.
Jaysus that was bloody great! Props to the drummer; she's fantastic!

I think it’s just amazing rock music. Their soundtrack work is perhaps “post-rock” if there really is such a thing.
I first heard 'Yes, I Am A Long Way From Home' on KCMU in '94. It's a joy to see this video now knowing what the band has accomplished. Hardcore never dies.
It's very cool that KEXP introduces listeners not only to young bands, but also to such legendary bands as Mogwai! Thanks!
2:59 faces of joy, thank you mogwai for touching our souls with your music, also you're all incredible live!
seriously, that moment was like a gush of seratonin to my brain
Stand in drummer is excellent. Well done lass. A credit to how it should be done!
thank humanity for this band, they gave me a litle hope...
The KEXP recordings are awsome. Those drums are so well miced up.

Interesting video I enjoy the commentary. Mogwai continues to amaze me
live mogwai on a cool, rainy evening drive. thank you kexp.
"Every Countries Sun" and "Don't Believe the Fife" could last for hours and it wouldn't hurt my feelings.

Damn, was hoping for 29 minutes of My Father My King.
God yes. That would be magical

They set themselves above most of the bands in their genre with a very distinct sound. They are originators, not imitators.
Great performance and always great music

They have stated on numerous occasions that they don't agree with the post rock label music industry has forced upon them.
Very good quality all the way around.

Mogwai always takes you for a ride and locks the doors. And you are a willful prisoner.
