    back in the mid 80s me an some friends an relative adapt all types of engine to mountain bike's , beach cruisers , we used 3.5hp to 8hp Briggs an Stratton engines on the heavy frame bikes, we would built are own heavy bike frames like motor cycles , so we could go fast , gearing every thing to go up 60to 70 or as fast as we can make the bikes go, but we always used mag wheel wide fast tires with heavy tread on the tires. there wasn't to many kits like this that we could afford.

    Damn son! In recently began learning and understanding how engines work and operate! Thankfully I can understand d some of the comments!
    I've been told two stroke is smaller and more proper than 4 stroke. Except 4 stroke offers higher torque at low rpm. Which means it's probably super good for those climbs!

      You have one advantage over a two-stroke, you can use forced induction. I’d love to see one with a blower and fuel injection.

    A couple months ago, I seen a guy on the side of the road who had an engine on his bike, so I stopped to talk to him about it. He said he got it from you guys and has had it about a year or so now and loves it. He said he's put a few hundred miles on it with no trouble at all. He was a big dude, a good 6'6" and 250 anyway, and he said it moves him right along. He wanted an engine to help him out in this Louisiana heat and he said it does do that and he's very happy.
    Why don't you guys sell a little large engine, say around 125cc like they have on those MOTOPEDS but without the transmission or maybe one of those GX120 Honda engines that's been stripped down like you did here. Those would be great for some seriously fat tire bikes for off roading and hauling camping gear and what not. Keep up the great work.

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That's a great suggestion and we will definitely look into it. We previously only focused on small hobby engines and engines to fit within the regulations of racing circuits. This is our first venture into larger motors and it has been more successful than we anticipated, leaving our inventory completely empty within the first few weeks. To keep cost low for our customers we buy directly from manufacturers, and if we can find a manufacturer we trust we will gladly carry larger engines.

    • @wjf213
      @wjf213 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be GREAT. I was looking at Honda engines again after I watched your video, and I really think they will fit inside a frame if stripped down, BUT that means we'd need to CNC some parts like you have here.
      I mean you guys, hands down have the market cornered and the skills and know how down pat, so if you did move to larger engines, I know I'd buy a few for my bugout bike "FLEET" so to speak. haha
      If I could make a suggestion or two, maybe build a few and take them to preppercon.com/
      Some things that would prove useful to that group of people are accessories in the form of having the engine with a start alternator combo and it can recharge batteries for cells, flashlights, radios and whatever, and a 12vdc power outlet or better yet a cigarette lighter and sell it as always having a way to make fire on board.
      I would also show it in the fast mode configuration to get some where FAST, as well as the power mode for hauling more weight at a slower speed.
      I would offer larger fuel tanks as well to have a decent range, and have the fuel tanks with attaching points so people can hang their own gear off of the tank and it is not just a fuel tank. Maybe even have an easy access spot on the tank for a place for a squeeze bottle of water so you can get a drink on the go.
      I could go on and on, but you get the idea. I'm really happy you're thinking along the lines of larger engines, because I know the big thing is always POWER and most look at these small engines as being toys and nothing serious to bet your life on.
      Keep up the great work and ideas.

      wjf213 a 120 Honda will fit most places a 79cc harbor freight will my last build was a harbor freight 212cc. From experience with 79cc and other motors that is far from the best setup and can be very dangerous. The best setup is to mount to the seat tube. The only good thing about that mount is price. If you have access to even a Mimi Mill you can build a much better and safer mount for cheap .

      Hi Scott,
      Thanks for the info. It's much appreciated. I'm always looking for any and ALL info from everyone who has even the slightest experience in this sort of thing. I'm looking to build 10 bikes that are exactly the same that we can use in emergencies and even just to ride for fun once in a while.
      So, let me get this straight, you installed a 212cc engine from Harbor Freight onto your bike and it's about the same size as the 79cc engines?
      Can you explain the engine mount in a little better detail please?
      I wish Bike Berry had a system with 4 stroke engines that are 5 to 8 horsepower. I like the Honda GX engines because it looks like they sit at a 45 degree angle and would fit inside a lot of bike frames unlike a normal horizontal engine would, with the cylinder straight up and down.
      I mean the GX120 stands 13 inches tall but that includes tank and air cleaner. Remove those and remount them, and I think you could really have a nice low profile set up. I don't think I'd go over 8hp or the Honda GX240 simply because I doubt the frames are really designed to take that kind of power and stress put on them, but what do I know.
      Stripped down, I think the GX240 would be around 13 inches tall and still fit in most frames, plus it has electric start and as much as an 18 amp charging, which could be very handy for recharging all kinds of electronics in a grid down situation, while riding around.
      For me running around on flat land here in the south, 5hp would be plenty but in serious hills and mountains I could see going with an 8hp if speed and power were needed but if not, I'd gear down the 5hp and give up a few MPH on the top end.
      I'd really be interested in anymore info you want to share. Thanks again Scott.

    You can ride them on the roads, but you must have a licence, you must register them, fit number plates, pay Vehicle Excise Duty (Road Tax), have insurance (difficult) and wear a helmet, just like a motorcycle

    Good Video guys...
    I encourage you to keep learning.
    Here’s a tip to keep the carburetor and fuel tank clean.
    Use non ethanol fuel because fuel containing 10% corn ethanol/ethanol draws moisture out of the air and that causes water build up in the fuel tank, if the tank is light steel it will rust? if it’s aluminum it will corrode, either way you will definitely get a water build up near the bottom of the tank that will end up in the carbs. float bowl causing corrosion and jet ports to clog up over time.
    I’ve been a Small Engine Mechanic since the ‘70’s... that chain tensioner is an accident waiting to happen! If it was my build and the frame had enough room in it? I would just discard that tensioner and take more links from the chain or drill a small hole through the frame if it’s wide enough and use a small bolt and lock nut to keep it from twisting.
    Because if the (2) U-bolts loosen up while riding? that tensioner could become loose and slip into the spokes, and your going to have a bad and painful day and will be shopping around online for a new rear wheel!!
    So if you can go straight from sprocket to sprocket without rubbing on the frame?? in my opinion that would be better.
    Be Safe and Have Fun‼️

    Very well done video. Of course you have your safety advocates and other critics making comments but the truth is these are fun and fairly inexpensive considering what you get for your money. Just like some of the critics learned through experience and trial and error, so should the next generation of kids and young adults coming of age. I don't like to be the person that got to enjoy these types of things and then start talking about the possible safety hazards and other issues in a severely negative way. It's great to warn others and let them know what they may face but to sound as if these things shouldn't be used and make them sound like they are death traps is wrong. Hey, you critics got to enjoy and experience these things, along with other things that the younger generation hasn't, let them have some fun and learn on their own. It's actually good to warn people about potential pitfalls but don't scare people to the point that they may very well abandon their goal of building or owning one of these fun rides. We didn't wear bicycle helmets when we were kids and we didn't have most of the safety gear that is used today, yet the vast majority of us turned out great and we had a really fun time doing things. Give the warnings but without the doom and gloom. Great video.

    Careful at full throttle when hitting bumps. Over throttling will rip that crappy PLASTIC throttle cable eyelet apart (maybe Dorman makes a better one). I always thought a spring resisted thumb throttle would be a nice feature on these rather than using the entire grip/hand rest. And mechanical cruise control. Basically a throttle lock that will disengage if the handle bars sway quickly and/or a brake is applied.
    That is a really good engine mount tho.

      Every kit throttle ive had has been crap other than one i got with a staton inc friction drive.
      That one used a brake lever as the throttle.
      I exclusively use brake levers now. I have the throttle on the right side and i use a dual pull brake lever on the left side. I have one drum brake wheel on the front and will soon have one on the back too.
      It takes a little getting used to for turns. Ive only dumped myself once and that was because i was being dumb and not paying attention at a stop light and i tried to stop go and turn all at the same time. My shoulder still hurts.
      Dont do that. But the lever throttle is awesome. No hand fatigue.
      At one point i had a clutch lever for the two stroke on one build and it was like having a cruise control at just under wide open because of the lock on it. Im probably gonna try to get another one like that.

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe you are referring to the breather. It let's the pressure used in oil injection to be ventilated out of the crank case. It is a one way vent, and if properly working, will not introduce any debris into the engine. A breather filter can be used to catch any oil that may potentially spew out, but is not entirely necessary.

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great suggestion, we will definitely be adding it to our list of videos. The stage 2 is larger, provided a stronger and more consistent spark, with the added security of needing a key to start. The stage 2 is designed with racing in mind, where the stage 1 is designed for a increase in performance and stability to any standard engine.

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. Im using a 49cc right now. I aslo have rhe wide crank assembly.
      Two things to consider,
      The bike is much heavier so its harder to pedal and if you dont have a multispeed bike, its gonna be tough.
      Two.
      You are gonna be limited to the speed you can obtain just pedalling over and above the weight. With the wide crank assemble your legs are out from under the normal center of gravity of a bike and rider.
      Additionally the motor changes the balance of the bike as well. So if you are spinning your legs like a mad man, you are gonna notice the entire bike will swerve side to side some. This isnt a problem with just using the motor at speed. It handles fine. But the added shifts in balance from pedalling with the wide crank is enough to cause some wobble.
      This is especially noticeable if you try to lay into it while you are already wide open and trying to push a little harder with the pedals.

    Should be adding thread lock on all bolts....Also you should not be using the chain tensioner as provided. Since it's a friction fit it will have a tendency to roll into the spokes and lock up the rear wheel causing you to crash or at least wreck the wheel. adjust the chain length to tension it.

    At about 9:38 you removed a shield but did not put it back on, that shield is part of the engines cooling system . the shield directs air from the flywheel fins over the cylinder fins thus pushing the heat away from the engine. You should show that shield being reinstalled it is an important part of the engine. Just an idea to add to a cool video (thumb up)
