    2023 update:
    So obviously this video is fairly old now, and I wanted to provide an updated opinion on the matter
    I still think that the DLC is perfectly balanced and suited for Master Mode, as that was released alongside the DLC - but normal mode can easily be broken due to these early, OP rewards.
    If a game is bought alongside the DLC, a lot of first time players will feel entitled to look up the locations of the loot that "they paid extra money for". This creates a first playthrough that undervalues key systems in the base game (getting attack armor super early, rushing the main story to get a motorcycle and better sword)
    Now of course if you want to play this way, by all means, but it's the equivalent of sparknoting a book instead of just reading it.
    I guess the main takeaway is that these rewards, with their elusiveness on how they are presented and earned, are balanced. But if you seek them out immediately using guides on a first time playthrough because "I bought this, I deserve it now", then you're gonna experience a pretty unbalanced playthrough that undervalues the base game.
    TLDR: Experience this game as blind as possible because it's worth it, and if you bought the DLC with it I recommend letting those rewards/quests come to you naturally instead of looking up where they are

    • @Croton
      @Croton  ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I should add that being able to get some of this OP loot early is GREAT for challenge running in subsequent playthroughs! For these, the less prerequisites the better, and BotW has achieved well in this by making a lot of it's rewards not hard to get, but rather hard to find - which increases the replayability for challenge runs and using different things!

      @@Notalizardspy True for me at least. The DLC armours can give you a kick start in master mode, and they really get less and less significant as you progress towards late-game, since none of the DLC items can upgrade.
      tbh if you're only installing DLC after almost completion, you'd likely already have armours with the same effects but higher stats anyway, and that renders the DLC armours only valuable for appearance and as collectables.

  • @zeonmoo192
    @zeonmoo192 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1252

    I think the DLC is meant to be played after at least defeating all the Divine Beasts, considering you can't do the champion's ballad without doing so. Even though I played BOTW a year after the DLC came out, I waited until I beat it before I got it, and felt like it added a whole new layer to the game.
    Because they added the DLC a year after BOTW came out, I feel like they designed it to be used AFTER the player has been playing for a while, not bought with the game and used right away.
    Edit: but I fully agree that items like the Phantom armor and Majora's mask made some other items pretty useless.

    • @Croton
      @Croton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      That's very true!! I definitely think that the Phantom armor and the Majoras Mask are easily some of the most gamebreaking items - considering how easy they are to obtain from the start. I'm glad the other rewards had far more requirements to obtain, but they all felt like things that should been obtained in the post game, and not anytime sooner.

    imo the royal guard set is one of the best utility outfits in the game. It shows that it just reduces charge attack stamina usage on the menu, but in reality it also reduces the stamina usage on dashing in water and jumping while climbing, which makes sense as it was worn by the most elite soldiers in hyrule. This makes it great as an all in one stamina set.

    I think you're looking at these from a "pro's perspective" and completely discounting Hero/Master Mode. After learning the game's combat mechanics and becoming at least mildly consistent with triggering Flurry Rush, the game is effectively trivial with or without this DLC. The only difference beyond this point is how often you need to swap weapons, and if you've effectively mastered the game, why NOT be rewarded by having the tedium of weapon swapping reduced?
    Don't get me wrong, I love the combat mechanics they've added in BOTW along with the weapon management, but I don't understand how any of these rewards "break" the game. The Trial of the Sword was BRUTAL in Master Mode. Every floor made my heart beat faster than the last and I was SO PUMPED when I finally beat it. Your biggest factor in success is your level of skill. If you can't get a hang of the mechanics, you're going to struggle.

Not counting players who intentionally glitch the game to gain access early, most players casual will probably end up clearing most shrines in the game before being able to beat the Trial of the Sword. If a player is skilled enough to beat the Trial early they by all means deserve access to the upgraded Master Sword as they have clearly shown a mastery of the game's systems.
    That being said, there are also weapons that outclass the Master Sword in endgame so there is a good chance that casual players will already have access to stronger weapons by the time they beat the Trial and experienced players would likely be taking full advantage of them.

    Phantom armor was intended for Master Mode. The 24 defense is pretty useless, and the attack boost is required to keep up with health regen.
    My gripe with the DLC is that none of the armors are upgradeable, and instead of making them unique, they are mostly just inferior copies of other standard armors. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

    • @CaptainCFalcon
      @CaptainCFalcon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Yeah. It'd be nice if there was some sort of mid-game/late-game challenge you could do to unlock the ability to upgrade the DLC equipment.
      For example, after you've found the last Great Fairy, you show her the armor, but she doesn't recognize the materials or something. So you go to the Hateno village scientist lady, & she examines them. You don't have the set she's examining, because she's still doing it. However, since this is later in the game, it shouldn't be a problem, since you'll have other equipment to make up for it.
      After a few in-game days, you can talk to her again, & she'll tell you where you can find the materials for it. They'll be special limited materials unique to the set, & you only need to upgrade the set once for it to be maxed out.

    • @CaptainCFalcon

      And with the unique thing, there's a couple of unique traits for some of the gear, but again, all it comes down to is discount/bootleg version of this armor, _but _*_also_*_ discount/bootleg of _*_this_*_ armor._

      dude there are quite a lot of guardians around those phantom armor set locations. most new players are not gonna get those right away, hell its super risky even trying till you are either a pro at parrying or have some ancient arrows, so typically you have to get as far as akala and hateno which by then you can easily have 2 star soldier armor which has higher defense. that's not too early considering unlike barbarian or fierce deity set you cannot upgrade the phantom set. so then you can choose between higher defense or attack power and you have 2 decent armor sets till you can get those other sets upgraded which tbh first timers who explore and have fun wont likely get the phantom set for at least 20-30 hours if they ever find the set at all. i never got the set till around 25 hours then i managed to get enough ancient stuff to craft the ancient helmet then i had 2 star soldier set i would pair with the helmet for guardians and the phatom set for most encounters. its not game breaking at all unless you are multiple playthroughs in and are some psycho who drops off the plateau and immediately runs after those pieces like a crazy person with only 4 hearts.

It's good to have to work hard and get intimate with the game's mechanics, while only periodically getting slightly better gear, instead of having a quest for early game god-armor preloaded. Sure, if you're really not that good at the core combat mechanics, it's a nice crutch to get a footing, but if you're not willing to take risks and play without, you'll never experience the true variety of the game's features. Plus, like the video stated, these DLC items have fiddled with the already delicate balance of the main game items, armors, and mechanics, in such a way that a lot of these have been made trivial.

      I disagree the is a MUST in traditional Zelda game but BOTW is built around exploration and cycling through different ways to kill enemies. BOTW its built around a severely different system of combat that kind of revolves around exploration to find weapons if you just relied on the master sword it kinda throws a wrench into the system instead of searching for good weapons (like the royal claymore) or fighting for them (like with any dragon bone monster club or lynell weapons) you just finish a fight maybe break the sword if so wait for it to recharge and go on. theirs no need to search to search for any other weapons. even if a lynall crusher does around 100 damage the fully upgraded master sword has tons more lifetime damage than the crusher. and since it only takes ten minutes to recharge there's no real reason to obtain any other weapons. now in late game like say after you beat ganon and gotten the true ending. this is completely fine. you've already been collecting differing weapons throughout what you've already played. and having to do it ALL the time even after ganon can get stale. but by having the fully upgraded master sword at your disposal it takes away the need to search which is a very nice reward. but this is just my opinion

    The Trial of the Sword is not even easy at all though lol. I think that at least that part is definitely worth enough to go through for what you get from it. It may not be the whole game, but you do still need to go through at least 40 shrines, which would be roughly 1/3 of the map or so in order to get the Master Sword so it's not a terrible pre-requisite either, on top of the difficulty of the trial. I do agree with the rest of the points though lol.

The Master Trials are a much harder challenge and require a lot more skill to complete then the Champions Ballad, so it helps justify it's overpowered reward more in my opinion. TL;DR: "You should only get the DLC stuff at the point when *there is absolutely nothing left to do in your game* "
    Ignoring, of course, that you CAN just bum rush Ganon with 3 hearts straight off the plateau and win, and that the trial of the sword is difficult enough that you absolutely MUST have mastered the game's combat already before you have a chance; especially if you are going for the upgraded sword early on before you've collected all the heart containers. For most of the stuff you are complaining about, the skill gate is more than enough. Why should you have to arbitrarily check off a bunch of tasks that you've already clearly done at least once before to GET that mastery of the game? That's just wasting the player's time for the sake of wasting it.
    You talk about matching the game's design philosophy; well one of the core design principles was that if you have the skill to do something, then you can go out there and DO it. Gating all the DLC stuff behind an arbitrary wall related to chores for the player to do rather than the player's skill level violates THAT part of the game's central design, and I would argue the part of the design that gives you the freedom to do anything you have the skill to accomplish is far more important to the game's overall design than the other aspects you think the DLC gear "violates".
    I can get behind perhaps putting the armor and mask somewhere harder to reach, but with the rest of the stuff, you already have to prove to the game that you've reached a high level of mastery before it rewards you, so it's not something a new player is just going to snatch up in their first half hour off the plateau. It's something a returning veteran player will pick up to play around with on a second, third, or fifth playthrough.

    • @tilgare
      @tilgare 4 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Thanks, you put it more eloquently than I was going to. My biggest gripe about the DLC was that I had basically done EVERYTHING in the game before I got the final reward of the master cycle - but because I had done everything else in the game at that point, all I had left to do was roam around riding it aimlessly. I may have gone hunting for lyonels or more of the 900 seeds, but without a task to accomplish it wasn't really a reward I could enjoy.
      Now lock EVERYTHING behind the same gate? Where's the fun in that? And worse yet - not everybody like playing a game, then starting over and playing it again and again, so there's no world where the rewards should be hidden behind beating the game or only available on a future play through.

    i almost entirely disagree, especially now that the DLC has had its time to age. Majora's Mask and the phantom armor i can still agree with, but your evaluation of the major rewards bugs me. BotW has NEVER been about railroading your progression, as anyone with experience with the game can beat ganon immediately after the great plateau, and i even did it in my first run after 2 DBs out of pure curiosity, so locking the DLC content behind a "post game" makes zero sense, especially as it would be the only thing in the world to have changed, making for a strange time displacement paradox feel that just results in the DLC feeling even more detached from the main game than it already is.
    To break down the major rewards, a full power master sword is already restricted to mid game, by which point surviving raids on hyrule castle is well within all player's abilities, and the trial to unlock the sword when ignoring OoB glitches ensures that players are qualified to wield it. If a player can survive the waves and waves of enemies in environments where they thrive with very limited resources, it makes sense that the reward would replace the same resource management of weapons as they have conquered the game's toughest weapon management challenge. The sooner the player accomplishes the challenge, the more skills and strategy they had to show and implement to reach it, so doing it early is just as valid a challenge as doing it at full power.
    The master cycle zero has practically the reverse problem. There is no harm in making the horse mechanics obsolete when you consider that horses were already made obsolete by shrine-based fast travel which did not even need the shines to be completed to use and is unlocked BEFORE horses. Horses are exclusively for exploring new territory, and when you consider that all 4 DBs heavily restrict the use of the horse, why bother in the first place? ( *expansion tangent, can skip if understand the point* horses are not even allowed to enter gerudo desert. death mountain is literally on fire, as well as being entirely uphill on rough terrain. Zora's river is constantly experiencing thunderstorms on first visit to prevent players from climbing up the rocky cliffs and riverbanks, which are already the bane of horses, combined with speedy lizalfos everywhere who dont care about the existence of the horse means it is not worth it to bring one in the first place. Finally you have rito village, which is the only one that is even potentially worth bringing a horse for, but combined with limited stables, overly restrictive whistle mechanic, and the need to activate shrines for fast travel in the first place that plague horse mechanics to begin with makes the trip a bit easier on foot. *tangent end* ) So with a cumbersome horse mechanic that is rarely worth the effort, the master cycle fixes all the problems horses have, while not replacing them when it comes time for the horseback challenges. But as before mentioned, shine based fast travel is unlocked before even horses, and yet the master cycle is only a step in between horses and fast travel in usefulness, so why is there such a heavy restriction on it again? You must have completed the story for the trial to unlock the master cycle to begin, and by that point the player will have found all the fast travel points they need, so all that is left is korok and shrine hunting, and raiding hyrule castle. Notice how only one of the things on that list is mandatory, yet hyrule castle prevents summoning the cycle anyway.
    The progression to unlock the master cycle really should have been changed; start with the individual DB challenges and unlock them once the corresponding DB has been tamed, and only after clearing all 4 rematches can the plateau trial begin. completing the plateau trial then results in returning the 1HO to the shrine of resurrection, which reveals the 5th DB. It does not fix the problems the cycle has on the overworld, but it does flow better and give players the option to unlock the champion upgrades at more convenient times. Since the champion upgrades are exclusively reducing the cooldowns, it does not change the gameplay for players at all. If the player doesnt upgrade the powers, they will just wait the extra time for skills to recharge before doing anything challenging, and if it takes enough time for the players to recharge the upgraded skills mid-boss fight, they needed the help anyway and would have stalled until they recharged even if not upgraded.
    The only way to truly fix the master cycle would have been to unlock it sooner, but lock most of its functions behind re-conquering the DBs. (smaller fuel tank? limited summoning time? doesnt negate fall damage until challenge is complete? IDK...)

What I did and what I recommend you do is shoot an arrow at the ground on the other side of it to distract that specific Lizalfos, but not the other one. This way, you can sneak strike it from behind so it doesn’t fall in the water. From there, Sneak Strike Chain away. Repeat this for the other Lizalfos.

    Coming from someone who easily got sick of managing horses and only keeping the ones with the best stats, I loved the addition of the master cycle, and I thought it's placement at the very end of the game if you're willing to go through all of the trials is very fitting and doesn't break the game. The horses were fun at first though they got extremely tiring and painful later on. I found myself enjoying the game more using quick travel, but when I got the master cycle I actually found it much more fun to ride around the map instead of quick travel.
    I agree with the phantom armor and majora's mask being broken and easy to obtain, I personally didn't like that at all, though I think it would have been best to make it so you had to defeat one or two divine beasts first before being able to dig up their chests. Those DLC armor sets are the only thing I agree on in this though, as the Master sword is the Hero's weapon, in almost every other game it is his main weapon, and I love the feeling of holding the master sword in BOTW.
    You could say all of this about the hylian shield as well, a shield that's seemingly unbreakable to a casual player who doesn't like to fight 20 guardians at a time, it ruins progression and eliminates need for other shields unless you want to shield surf better. But if the Hylian Shield (which was dead easy to get) is fine, then I don't see what's wrong with the master sword upgrade which you work extremely hard for upon getting the master sword. A casual playthrough may not even do the trial of the sword if it's too difficult.

      But the issue is that it is relatively broken early on. Each piece has a defense stat of 8, beating out pretty much any other piece of armour until you've found two great fairies, and even then the attack boost will make you reluctant to abandon it. The insane 24 defense buff will make most weaker enemies, who should be dealing 1 to 1.5 hearts, deal only a quarter of a heart, breaking the difficulty curve.
      Imagine you begin a file, then pick up the set soon after jumping off the plateau. Besides weather resistances, you have no reason to ditch the armour until very late game, and all of the enemies will become cakewalks.

    As far as the overpowered armor goes, I think a lot of it was put there to help the player in Master Mode. And I LOVE the upgraded Master Sword 'cause it finally feels like some sort of legendary blade. With a standard power of 30 it was worse than a lot of easy-to-get weapons, which was extremely disappointing to me the first time I played the game... Throughout most of the game the Master Sword was the weakest weapon in my inventory, which is sad to say the least. I know it doubles against Malice, but it's still underwhelming. IMO they should have buffed it a lot and give it a much longer recharge time (or make some sort of requirement/task to do to recharge it).

I legitimately had to do almost all of the shrines to get my hearts maxed and have decent enough stamina. Even then I failed multiple times. If they had made the phantom knight armor to be a late game item, I wouldn't have gotten it later because the barbarian armor winds up being the better choice in the long run. While yes it may change the flow of the game, not everyone likes to flow at the same pace. That's why you have tanks, dps, and medics. A middle ground I could see is locking them behind some difficult tests in master mode and just leaving them the way they are in standard mode.

    I think that given what the dlc “stories” ended up being, I think rewards like the master cycle came too LATE in a playthrough. To me, the champion’s ballad didn’t feel like post game content, I think the sequel, which I’ve heard was a originally planned as a third dlc, would’ve fit that description better. By the time I get my hands on the motorcycle, I have almost no need for it. I’ll almost always use a horse instead, unless I’m trying to force a dragon to spawn while riding around lynels lol.
    And maybe the armor items are “easily” accessible, but even when I know exactly where I’m looking in a seventh playthrough, I still have trouble spotting them. They are WELL hidden, and I think the challenge they present is that, unless you’re wandering around with magnesis constantly on, you have to know where you’re going. You have to know the map. The dlc points you to a book in a vague location, which gives you a vague description of a place that, if you haven’t visited yet, won’t be spelled out on the map. You still have to explore the vast open world to be able to find them.
    And finally, a key factor in the dlc armor, at least for me.....”you can’t fight evil if you ain’t cute”. XD and boy is a lot of the dlc armor not aesthetically pleasing, least of all the phantom armor. Not to mention that it can’t be upgraded, which is a huge turn off for me. Otherwise I’d be running around in maxed out royal guard gear...
    I personally love Majora’s Mask. It’s hands down my favorite item in the game. Because sometimes I don’t feel like getting ambushed. But I also played the game before the dlc, I collected all the masks, but Majora’s is still a favorite because it combines their abilities. That, and, as I found out the hard way, you have limited inventory space for armor. You can’t have every in game, dlc, and amiibo piece of armor. There’s just not enough room. And as a completionist, that bugged me. But at least there’s one item that does the same as 4 others...
    And bro, I have never in 7 playthroughs been able to beat trial of the sword. 😂 I got close once to beating the second difficulty level, but died at the last second, so to me, a full upgraded master sword is both too much trouble, and utterly worthless compared to some heavy hitter breakable weapons you can get.

      i got phantom set 25 hours in after i already had 2 star soldier and taken down a divine beast. its good mid game armor but not late game. not only is it locked behind riddles but surrounded by guardians. unless you are super stealthy, a pro at parrying or have ancient arrows its super risky going after that set. ancient arrows means you already hit hateno and went through zoras domain to reach akkala. you can easily have 2 star soldier armor and have taken down a divine beast before getting that armor set. thats the most likely route to it for new players.

    Except that people paid for the DLC. Removing it, or moving it to the end of the game, would rob people of what they paid for. We paid for an "enhanced" experience, and that's what we got. Messing with it now would ruin what we paid for. If you didn't want the DLC, don't pay for it. If you have the DLC but want just the base game, don't use it. All of these things are voluntary. If you have the DLC and do not want to use or have Majora's mask, then exercise self-control, and play the game without it. You don't have to do the trial of the sword, or the armor collection, or the ballot trials if you do not want to.
    This video was just a complaint about entirely voluntary DLC, and what you think Nintendo should "fix" taking away from an experience that a lot of people paid for.
    I bought DLC accessible from the start of the game. If Nintendo changed that, myself and many others would demand a refund. You cannot sell something and then tell people what they can and cannot do with it. That's how you lose customers.
    If the DLC were only accessible at the end of the game, many people wouldn't have bought it, and many more would only have bought it when they first completed the game for the first time. Overall it would have defeated the point in selling DLC. Nintendo learned from PlayStation and Xbox's mistakes in hiding behind pay walls and "unlockable" DLC. (Ballot of the trials excluded because that's less of traditional DLC and more of an extension of the story past the base of activating all shrines.) The business model that Nintendo used was excellent by selling the armor and Master Sword trials upfront, and then giving away FOR FREE the ballot trials to anyone who had purchased the DLC with the game.
    Over all they couldn't have done better, and trying to change that now would only upset their customer base. Everything in this DLC is voluntary, and if you don't want it, you don't have to have it. Don't try to force others to give up what they do want, and paid for.

    Dude he be talking about how hard the base game is and how having this gear makes it so easy. Bro Ganon and his blights are easier to kill than a golden bokoblin and that isn't exaggerating. The difficulty difference between with DLC and without is neglible. The first blight you fight will have 800 hp, the second has 1,200, the third has 1,600, and the fourth has 2,000 hp making it no more than a red lynel. Their attacks do less damage than a red lynel and are incredibly easy to dodge; the only one being a mild annoyance is thunder-blight, which you can still flurry-rush to death. Calamity Ganon is honestly an underwhelming boss, having only 5,000 hp making it weaker than a silver lynel, and its attack pattern is very predictable and easy to dodge. Basically I am saying that the story is so easy it doesn't really matter if you have DLC to help you or not.

  • @Kohchu
    @Kohchu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I think people are overreacting a bit for "The DLC ruins the flow of the game." Because most of the DLC is objectively worse then the original stuff. A good chunk of it can't be upgraded at all, and generally the DLC stuff requires much more materials then you'll have early on to upgrade them. Compared to the standard stuff which mostly just requires common mushrooms and Bokoblin stuff to improve.
    Another thing, is that the DLC content maybe easy to get if you're actively looking for it; but most players play the game as intended first, and use DLC items after the game is beaten or for fun. Never knew someone who was willing to risk getting laser blasted just to get the OP Phantom Armor early on; as opposed to taking the time to go to the three ruins around the outskirts of Hyrule to get the Barbarian set. It's really a matter of Safety vs Speed.
    Sure, it maybe broken late game, but by that point... you've kinda already done everything; you should be broken.

    I am surprised that you thought the trial of the sword should be unlocked later
    After getting the sword and then getting the quest seems like a good idea
    Most people who would have just gotten over the 13 heart requirement getting the sword
    Then just after leaving is told of this grand trial that could give them more power to the sword
    This motivates them to get stronger doing more shrines and completing the divine beasts for the blights’ heart containers
    Getting better and then enters the hardest trial fighting through each floor each one becoming more and more difficult
    Each requiring you to learn game fighting mechanics along with enemy advantages and disadvantages among other things
    After blood, sweat and tears you make it to claim your prize that you worked so hard for
    The weapon was made to be over powered to symbolize the fact of how much worked for this.
    This and the master cycle zero are made for the end game
    By then you had competed eighty five to one hundred percent of the shrines
    The master cycle literally has you go back to the plateau to do a don’t get hit challenge then everywhere else to do their separate challenges each ending with a harder blight refight since you are limited in your arsenal then back to the plateau again for another divine beast and then a hard boss fight
    You are rewarded with the master cycle zero but by then you don’t really need as you only now require the death of ganon
    Same thing with the full power master sword
    You beating trial of the sword means that you don’t need a sixty damage weapon if you started off with a stick

    You should check out LevelUp Royal's suggested game play sequence with the DLC expansion pack. Straight off the Great Plateau, he goes to Lake Hylia to collect Staminoka Bass, then the Lake Tower to get that part of the map. Then to the Taobab Grassland to catch a 5-Star Speed Horse and ride it to the Horse God Shrine to begin collect the Ancient Horse Gear to be able to teleport your horse in the game. He then concentrates on getting the Phantom Ganon Armor to give increased stealth optimal for catching critters for food and armor buffs and for having Bone Attack Up with Dragonbone Moblin Clubs. He emphasizes first gathering Hearty Durians and Mighty Bananas in the Faron Region to cook during Blood Moons. So, he basically comes up with a different strategy for approaching the game using only modest buffs from the DLC that allow the player to escape the usual drudgery of trudging to Dueling Peaks, then to Kakariko Village, and on to Hateno Village straight off, etc., relatively underprepared for some of the bad guys that one encounters along the way. By roaming the countryside to collect food buffs, weapons, and armor just from the regular game, one can later face the challenges of the Divine Beasts a bit more prepared than one does by the standard route that the game leads you on. And whereas the standard game play encourages you to avoid combat unless necessary because it upgrades your enemy level, he teaches fight ~everyone you meet to get to the silver enemies and start collecting the rewards from that. Rather than learning the best way to hide out in the game and sneak around, he teaches the best strategies for taking any enemies on. Too bad LevelUp Royal seems to have departed from this world. But any monster he ever saw carrying a Dragonbone Moblin Club is doomed at that moment. He teaches you how to raid Hyrule Castle after only completing Divine Beast Van Medoh and puts Woodland Tower and Korok Forest a lot earlier in the game, too, with a big emphasis on maxxing Korok seed collection along the way to upgrade inventory slots to hold all the regular weapon booty being hauled in. He ~cleans out every region that he leads you to for the Korok seeds.

      That's all well and good if you think that BotW's natural progression is too difficult. Which it might be, to some, and I personally think it's not an "easy" game, but without some level of difficulty, the player will not be encouraged to explore and leverage the different options and tools that the game gives. If all it takes to get through the game is run-and-slash then most players would be missing out on 95% of the fun that the game has to offer.

    I agree with alot of this, but the master sword buff feels very necessary especially since the late game weapons are already stronger than it and the weapon cycling kinda goes away once you can farm major trials and lynels + most other enemies just carry royal stuff. And not having the master sword as the most powerful weapon seems weird

    I don't so much agree with the first 2 because, in my initial play through, I avoided Hyrule field due to not knowing about the perfect parry till I was fighting Gannon. Even in latter play throughs I still went to Hyrule field last. With your solution, some of the DLC rewards would not be good enough and would be disappointing.

      That's interesting that you say that about the perfect parry - because it really goes to show that there are so many basic mechanics in this game that go for the most part completely unexplained to the player. (Similar situation with me and the quick spin - which I didn't know even existed until a good 100 hours in 😅). So because of that, I can see in your situation, why items like the Phantom gear and Majoras Mask would be disappointing - as you didn't get them till much later.
      But with an open ended game like Botw, people are naturally gonna have completely different experiences on their first playthroughs, some being easier/harder then others. For the players who had an initial fear of Hyrule feild because of the guardians, probably didn't get those items right away and played the game like intended in the base experience. But for the ones who wernt scared of it, may of went there right after the plateau, got the overpowered items right away, and therefor experienced a very unbalanced version of the game. So at the end of the day, its all relative to a players unique experience to this game - which is why some people had a problem with the rewards, while others didn't.

      Personally, even after I learned how to do a perfect parry, I was really worried about messing it up when fighting Guardians, because you don't get much of an opportunity to practice the timing until you can survive the initial blast.
      But I didn't avoid Hyrule Field completely. As a result of the blank spot on my map, the presence of Central Tower CALLED TO ME. I decided to go for it even before I could survive a fight against a decayed Guardian. It was a great exercise in stealth and avoidance, and I did it on the first or second try. ❤️ Big feeling of accomplishment!

      @@Radien I stealth first 50 or 60 hours of Master Mode when I was playing it blind, lmao. First I went and got all the tower and that one in particular was nerve-wrecking. Although now I am more gang-ho about it since you can get on top without them shooting you all the time if you are fast enough.

    I actually really love the royal guards set because it makes it so I don't have to upgrade the climbing gear to get the climbing jump stamina reduction effect. And I love Zant's helmet because I can get the unfreezable effect without upgrading the Rito gear.

      Those ones are really nice!! Especially the royal guards set, which is very underrated in my opinion

    I’ve gotta disagree. I think that for most players, to see use of the DLC items, they should get them early. Once you have better armor, the DLC armor seems like a waste of time. They come across as costumes mostly. The only exception is the phantom armor, which makes you very strong for early game.
