One big tip I can give to you as a Trial of the Sword veteran, is after you defeat all of the enemies in a room, blow up all the trees in the room and collect it’s wood. Then, when you find a cooking pot, just cook a whole ton of Rock-Hard food with the wood. But DON’T use more than one bundle of wood to make your Rock-Hard food because it doesn’t matter if you use one wood bundle or two, your Rock-Hard food will only give you a quarter of a heart anyway. I’ve found that the average amount of wood bundles you can get before reaching a break room is around 40. So with that, you can make enough Rock-Hard food to replenish 10 hearts! Yes, it does take some time to do this, but it’ll be worth it in the end, and you can thank yourself for taking this tip!

Tip for floor 12 in the beginning trials: Save the lightning rod from the Wizzrobe earlier on in floor 8, then use it on the Hinox to stun it (the Hinox has metal cuffs on its legs)
You can also shoot the eye, attack and after he gets up, use Stasis and shoot the eye again. In the time the Hinox is stunned and gets up again, your Stasis Rune will be recharged and you can repeat it until it dies.

@@dffndjdjd The reason for that is that the trials are based on the 3 goddess, representing power, courage and wisdom. The first trial is pure combat based, the second tests your courage by representing common fears like darkness and height, the third tests your knowledge by putting you in harsh areas against strong enemies, that are easily beaten if you know their weakness. The 3rd trial may appear very challenging for someone not knowing the pros of certain tools giving to you, but make it so much easier if you do.
Late to the party, but at least I finished the trial before botw 2. Some lessons I learned: 1:23 Defence buff preferably. Bone enemies can be one-shot anyway. Defense buff also stops your bomb from killing you. 4:52 Chuchus, pebbles, red goblins, just bomb them. Then switch to the other bomb and bomb them again. Practice using bombs in advance is really helpful here. 8:35 You can still bomb enemies if you time it right. Or if you bomb parry. Red goblins die to one bomb so it really helps here. 10:52 Bomb can stop both of them at once. Can you tell I like bombs? 15:58 Make sure you only have 2 fairies or less before entering here, or the new fairies don't spawn! 16:20 Gardiants here are don't wake up 2 at a time. It's proximity-based. So you can have four shooting you at once, chain stunning you to death. Try to stay beside large trees. They can't be knocked down so you always have covers. 16:36 Stand in water when fighting guardians. If you fail a parry water will put out the fire. 16:42 Antient arrow those skywatchers. You can find 9 ancient arrows and they take too long to shield deflect.

I just wanted to thank you Austin, I just completed the third trial, all of your tips were on point, 30 min defense buff, practice shield parrying, turn on treasure chest scan and reminders on how to kill each mob. When I got to the last rest area no fairies spawned and I'll admit I started to freak out. I then remembered from your other video about only having 3 in your inventory, used the hold trick and BAM 6 fairies! Thanks again!
Nintendo has a repair page on their website that is pretty much just for joycon drift. You’ll find it pretty easily if you do a little searching. Oh, and they fix *all* your joycons for free.
Mine got so bad about 70% of the way through the game I had to finally break down & get a Split Pad Pro. Having to put a regular one back in for the rare remaining apparatus bit (SPP doesn't do gyro or rumble, but is otherwise *infinitely* more comfortable & satisfying, even with my weird big palm/stubby sausage fingers combo) in shrines is just *brutal*. 😭
Lol I usually end up doing that too & end up w a full inventory of rock hard food, although it ends up being completely unnecessary as I hardly take any damage. I usually only end up getting hit once or twice at most thru the entire thing, so I don't even end up needing to heal.
tips : for the first trial, grab a korok leaf in the early floor (you can get those from destroying trees). in floor 11 when you arrive at the base of the ennemis, aim with that leave (by holding the ''throw'' button) to push bokoblins into the water no trouble at all. it can shoot wind through wall and floors so don't hesitate to take them all out without leaving the bottom of the tower. ps: does not work on moblins. for the third trial : on the floor 7, there is a rusty claymore on the isolated pillar. take it before killing the only fire oktorok. instead of using elemental weapons or arrows to take out pebbits, use your bombs. this works as well for ice pebbits. on the floor 21 : instead of using your ancient arrows on the propellers, jump an slow-mo with your bow to hit it in the ''eye''. it'll one-shot it. (i was raging to see how austin john just wasted ancient arrows on the propellers. don't do that like him) for the rest, the video was awesome and complete enought so i've nothing else to add... if you ever read me austin john(that i hightly doubt), awesome job, continue like this please!!!
Here’s my problem with the trial of the sword: When you actually get the ability to do the trials, you’re likely not going to have much to use the gains from it. What’s my solution to this? Simple, every time you beat a divine beast, do a trial... yes I’m mentally sane, what do you mean? No I’m not salty I died to the black moblin on the second to last floor of the beginner trial. Edit: Damn… I pulled it off… and the Master Trials first try to boot!
Also, pro tip, the Lighting Rod from the electric Wizzrobe in the Beginner Trials is a GODSEND for the final 2 levels, as there is water everywhere, so shooting the electricity into the water is lethal.
@@Transversiv3 They won’t stop shooting spit at you and it’s so hard to fight back because they knock you into the water where you can do anything and just shoot at you repeatedly making it nearly impossible to recover. They hit you once and you’re dead, and you can’t even stealth past them because as soon as you step forward they spot you and call literally every enemy on the floor to you
This vid was super helpful, I kept dying over and over again in the beginning trials, after I watched the vid, I did the entire Trial Of The Sword in one go.
I recommend cutting down some trees and collecting wood during the trials. If you mess up and get hurt, you can cook food between rest areas to fill up more hearts. Also in the first part of the second trial I let the bokoblins shoot fire arrows into the boxes while I hid behind them so the food inside would get cooked. This helped me because I didn't think to boost my defense before entering the trials.
Angelita Ellison If you have the time and desperation, you can collect as much wood as possible and cook them at the cooking pot. It will healt 1/4 of a heart.
I didn't do that (on purpose, at least) because those first floors aren't too difficult except for the stationary Guardian, and those don't help too much. I just waited until I got to the rest area to cook things. But you do you.
+Ninjaananas I would just use them as firewood for cooking food like Angelita Ellison described. I don't think a quarter of a heart is too useful. But if it's the Beginning or Middle Trials, then you won't really need firewood except for cooking. If it's the Final Trials, you should use the wood for firewood in the ice levels.
+Ninjaananas I mean you should use it for firewood for cooking food if there aren't any rest areas left and you can't find cooking pots on a floor or you can't light it. I already finished the Trial of the Sword and I didn't use wood at all. I kinda wish I did, but oh well.
Duckscito Master I tried it first right after getting the master sword with 13 hearts, but failed. Got all 120 shrines and went back and beat it, still need to do the other 2 levels though
I know there's always been hot debate about whether Attack X3 or Defense X3 is more useful for the trials, and I'd say unless you're an expert who hardly ever gets hit, then Defense X3 is far more useful. The Defense buff has a rather large effect when not wearing any armor at all & really reduces the damage you take when armorless. The opposite is true for an attack buff, as weak weapons will see very little gain at all.
@@jsOliWhite stasis the lizalfos that can see you immediately. Then cryonis a platform off the dock in the corner of the room behind you opposite the lizalfoses. Now you have time to breathe and can regroup here if they see you. I headshot the first one that can alert the others. Then I lured the other two down the dock toward me one at a time by shooting them.
I just finished the Trial of the Sword for the first time today. I was so nervous about doing it but I'm so glad that I did. Sure, it wasn't on master mode (which I probably won't be doing anytime soon) but I'm still really proud of myself lol. Great video, Austin!
Misty Wolf with enough time and practice (and possibly tears as you cry because the silver lizalfos killed you for the 17 time, trust me, he is the sole reason for my new quest to get 999 of every kind of lizalfos piece in my master mode run) you could definitely do it. The hardest part is (as far as I have gotten) is the parts where you have to fight the lizalfos and make sure that they do not fall in the water (especially with the silver lizalfos, because then you can’t melee them so you have to run away or use almost all of your arrows on killing one of them). It is basically just a bunch of trial and error that I have honestly only found the time to do because of current events.
Semi helpful tip: In the rest stops of the trial, something I’d do is explode all of the trees to bundles of wood, then cook them each individually. It only gives you a quarter of a heart each, but you can get a couple more full hearts out of the deal, and sometimes it makes all the difference. Keep in mind that you have to cook each bundle individually. Do not cook them together, because then it won’t give you as much as if you did it in singles. It’s a tedious process, but I found it worth it. It helped me in a few pinches I found myself in. 😅 Hope this helps someone.
Public service announcement to everyone struggling to beat the trials: harvest every piece of wood you can find. You can throw an individual piece of wood in the pot for rock hard food, that heals 1 quarter heart. It's not much, but you can get like 20-30 of them by the time you get to a rest area. So if every heart matters, cook some logs.
What I did is I cut down the trees to gather wood, and then cooked each piece of wood alone to get a quarter of a heart each. All of them together are only around four hearts, but it helped.
This comment helped so much! One quarter heart may not seem like much, but when you have like 50+ pieces of wood, those one quarter hearts add up! This comment needs to be closer to the top.
Thanks to this video I was able to complete the Master Trials two hours before the North American release of Tears of the Kingdom. Thanks Austin John Plays!
advice: Don't die. Edit: Just beat the trial of the sword, ran out of ancient arrows before the last level so had to fight the lynel... almost died T_T
Ancient arrows are useless against lynels when you want the drops/items - but this is not the case here. If you literally want the lynel gone without a trace, then they are perfect.
You forgot that you can collect the wood from all the rooms to make rock-hard food, it doesn't heal much, but if stack like 50 or so wood logs, it can heal enough to save your life.
i was on floor 12 of the Beginning Trials (at low health), i climbed onto the Hinox to steal his weapons, and i woke him up by attacking him while still on him, and he killed me by GETTING UP!! it was hilarious but at the same time so agravating!
He got me too. I was standing in front of him, getting ready to swing the bone axe in the spin attack and he got up and insta killed me. Never even touched me.
Hey Austin! Its been years since I’ve watched this video, but I just want to say thank you for all the tips. Before watching your video, I was really struggling with the final trial. After I watched your video and used all the tips, I completed it in a few tries. The master sword on its final level is very overpowered.
Haven't tried it yet but did you try using the lightning rod on the water method? Hide on the right platform and shoot lightning balls at the water near the right Liz. Use the log to block ranged attacks.
WhaleCostume they regen health too fast, and the rod has to regain its charge. By that time they regen their health. Then it breaks and you're back at square 1.
Just letting you know, the flying guardian can be one shotted in the eye instead of wasting ancient arrows on the propellers. Just grab its attention with a normal arrow, ( be on top of tower for you have a better aim ) once shot with normal arrow it will lock on to you and just swap to ancient arrow and shoot the eye. You save a lot more ancient arrows ;)
I'm lucky I got my Nintendo switch in Christmas so I have all the videos to watch for tips plus Legend of Zelda BOTW is my first ever Zelda game to own
MatthewB671 XD not to hate on botw but that’s probably the worst Zelda game to play to first get introduced to the series. It's great. I love it because one, of the open world, and two, it's just a fun to fight and when you finish a puzzle, you feel a spark of accomplishment
It took me like 3 years to complete the trials (mainly because of a 2 year break I took). I am really glad this video exists, and I’ve always watched it every time before going into the trials
Thank you for the guide, completed the Final Trials last night. some of the levels i did it in an dumb way with just bomb, bombs and more bombs. the last level i was glad i had the "unused" fire rod. i burn the grass and as the bokoblins came rushing in, they immediately burned and die.
I just watched this video, and I never knew you could kill a lynel with an ancient arrow. I made it to room 23 and died because of the lynel disrupting me when I tried killing everything else then fighting him, but his arrows got me. Thanks to your video, now I'm willing to enter the final trials and try again, but with your advice. Thanks for posting this.
That Lynel with all the red bokoblins gave me a heart attack because he could spam arrows at you from behind walls! I wanted to throw a brick through my TV when it happened, but I had an incredible run that game and still had the cooked truffles and a fairy or two. I should've launched the arrow tbh, as I already knew they were OHKO when I hit a moblin with one on accident and it vaporized it, and I was ready to do it anyway, but I was worried I was gonna choke on the bokoblins because they had lots of high damage weapons on them.
I did it 7 years ago with your help. I’m diving right back in and am gonna crush it again. Through the tears, water/snack breaks, and more tears, I will again be successful.
Thanks! I was struggling on the middle trials, after this i maxed the sword, each of the other 2 trials 1st try! And even with many leftover fairies and tons of food. This has to be one of my favorite of your botw videos! Words don't express how useful this was.
I just completed the trial of the sword and the final room nearly killed me! I killed the lynel without ancient arrows, killed those F#%*ING BOKOBLINS with 5 fairies and a lot of food. After that battle, I had no food, no fairies and I had that Turret Guardian locked on to me. In the end, I won!
This guide single handedly allowed me to beat trials of the sword. Austin, you're a God brother!! Also for anyone who might see this comment, on the final trial, SAVE YOUR BOMB ARROWS. You don't need to use them before the last room. Use ancient arrows on the three different guardian level and you will still have plenty for the last level. Use those bomb arrows on the bokoblins! Use a metor rod to fly up, and just bomb those suckers. It's not worth risking the run, and it's the last level.
Shield deflecting is actually super effective against Guardians, but in Master Mode it's much harder because you might hear the beeping, but they fire a second later than you anticipate and you get hit. However, it is vital to learn because not only can you disarm normal enemies (bokoblins, lizalfos, moblins, etc.) and stun them for a second, but against Guardians, it is the number one technique that is necessary.
Boy you can imagine my rage when I learned that the Hinox was the last trial in the beginning stage. He killed me with ONE HIT by stepping on me while standing up.

The easiest thing that you can do to avoid killing yourself is to not stand where you would stand near bombs in a normal Zelda game.
Tip for floor 12 in the beginning trials:
Save the lightning rod from the Wizzrobe earlier on in floor 8, then use it on the Hinox to stun it
(the Hinox has metal cuffs on its legs)
You can also shoot the eye, attack and after he gets up, use Stasis and shoot the eye again. In the time the Hinox is stunned and gets up again, your Stasis Rune will be recharged and you can repeat it until it dies.

Late to the party, but at least I finished the trial before botw 2.
Some lessons I learned:
1:23 Defence buff preferably.
You can find 9 ancient arrows and they take too long to shield deflect.

tips : for the first trial, grab a korok leaf in the early floor (you can get those from destroying trees). in floor 11 when you arrive at the base of the ennemis, aim with that leave (by holding the ''throw'' button) to push bokoblins into the water no trouble at all. it can shoot wind through wall and floors so don't hesitate to take them all out without leaving the bottom of the tower. ps: does not work on moblins.
for the third trial : on the floor 7, there is a rusty claymore on the isolated pillar. take it before killing the only fire oktorok. instead of using elemental weapons or arrows to take out pebbits, use your bombs. this works as well for ice pebbits.
on the floor 21 : instead of using your ancient arrows on the propellers, jump an slow-mo with your bow to hit it in the ''eye''. it'll one-shot it. (i was raging to see how austin john just wasted ancient arrows on the propellers. don't do that like him)

Angelita Ellison
If you have the time and desperation, you can collect as much wood as possible and cook them at the cooking pot.
Richie K
Roasting the food is probably a waste.
You should keep it for cooking.

WhaleCostume they regen health too fast, and the rod has to regain its charge. By that time they regen their health. Then it breaks and you're back at square 1.
This is the most well constructed strategy guild I've seen. Thank you!

After sinking in lots of hours into the game other Zelda games will seem a lot more boring. I recommend wind waker hd next as it’s pretty similar to botw but still puts out a classic loz play style.
Oh ok thx for the tip.
MatthewB671 XD yeah. I love botw btw so in not hating on it. How are you liking it so far?
It's great. I love it because one, of the open world, and two, it's just a fun to fight and when you finish a puzzle, you feel a spark of accomplishment
MatthewB671 XD yeah it’s a pretty great game
On the eleventh stage, I saw a blue bokoblin walk of the platform and into the water...
Even the monsters are going mad about these trials. 😐
Lilkiddo 123, 😂😂😂
Bro just couldn’t anymore 💀
It took me like 3 years to complete the trials (mainly because of a 2 year break I took). I am really glad this video exists, and I’ve always watched it every time before going into the trials
Did you forget to eat the wood
Thank you for the guide, completed the Final Trials last night. some of the levels i did it in an dumb way with just bomb, bombs and more bombs. the last level i was glad i had the "unused" fire rod. i burn the grass and as the bokoblins came rushing in, they immediately burned and die.
it took me 3 years to actually want to do this
I just watched this video, and I never knew you could kill a lynel with an ancient arrow. I made it to room 23 and died because of the lynel disrupting me when I tried killing everything else then fighting him, but his arrows got me. Thanks to your video, now I'm willing to enter the final trials and try again, but with your advice. Thanks for posting this.
Wtf is there a lynel?😅😅. I have made to room 9
MARIO MASTER lol you noob
Lol same but the guardian got me
MARIO MASTER You can kill anything that's not a boss with an ancient arrow. You won't get any loot, though.
I like that Austin John is still checking comments on this video 2 years later
I just completed the trial of the sword and the final room nearly killed me!
I killed the lynel without ancient arrows, killed those F#%*ING BOKOBLINS with 5 fairies and a lot of food.
After that battle, I had no food, no fairies and I had that Turret Guardian locked on to me.
In the end, I won!
Preshie good for you
Preshie nice
This guide single handedly allowed me to beat trials of the sword. Austin, you're a God brother!!
Also for anyone who might see this comment, on the final trial, SAVE YOUR BOMB ARROWS. You don't need to use them before the last room. Use ancient arrows on the three different guardian level and you will still have plenty for the last level. Use those bomb arrows on the bokoblins! Use a metor rod to fly up, and just bomb those suckers. It's not worth risking the run, and it's the last level.
Hmm, looks like I need to work on Shield Deflect then...
Jarock316 the best way is to wait for the beep sound from the guardian, beep shield beep shield
coolslc only if you’re right up close to them though. Doesn’t work if your too far away because of the time it takes the beam to reach you
Master mode makes shield parrying guardians difficult, because they could charge up there shot and they do it randomly which sucks
Good strategy but the shield deflecting sucks ass.
I finally got it all completed and it felt really satisfying to have all this crap done good lord that was hard
Boy you can imagine my rage when I learned that the Hinox was the last trial in the beginning stage. He killed me with ONE HIT by stepping on me while standing up.
Amaury C lmao I got so mad last night because I was almost done beating him but Link decided to climb a tree instead of run and he stepped on me. I got so madddd lmao
I about threw my switch, I was beyond pissed off.
I died in the friggin armpit, what are the odds? Anyway, I guess I'll have to give it another shot now.
Sounds like some other TH-camr had the exact same thing happen to him then proceed to rage quit... One Arin Hanson
I beat the hinox on my first try in under one minute
No cheats
Dude. You are a Hero.
As someone who isn't the best at games, but still a sucker for 100%, I didn't think I had a chance. But. I actually did it. With 2 tries on each.
You are such a Chad
I was so close to killing the Hinox at 1st trial but he stepped on me -_-
Me too, :(
Big Oof
@@BowsrBlazr Yea
@@BowsrBlazr Now I also did the middle trials, (which is way easier than the beginning trials) LOL.
Kinky
“With no champions ability”
Realizes link has a champion
Flurry rush and slow mo shot
Also Link: I’ve broken the matrix
Just completed this on Master Mode. Gotta say found Dark Souls to be easier than Master Mode.
Dang. Does following the tips of this video also help with Master Mode?
annasoH323 oh yeah it was hella helpful lol. Just learned most of it through trial and error
Except for level 10 of beginning trials.. definitely the hardest level ever
@@joshuajohnson1796 Yes, level 10 of the beginning trials in master mode was also tough for me., but I remembered thanks to a video that you can attack them from behind eternally if you switch sides after hitting them. I you do that, it's easy once you have killed the one that alerts them.
Yeetling Dark souls is not actually really that hard tbf. Dark souls is more akin to normal mode than master mode in terms of difficulty
Thx man awesome vid, I've played over 800 hours of botw and I'm on the final trials with 13 hearts and seriously 1 stamina wheel, I thank you so much for your helpful tips they have helped me so, so much
