    My first rifle, was, and still is a Krico.
    And I love it.!!!
    Bought it, second hand, in 1963, in Africa, used it there for two years, brought it back with me, and it's still with me. (2020)!!!

    I came across a krirco at my local gunsmith's in 6.5x55.
    Never heard of them before.
    In my opinion, I found the action very smooth.

    Thanks for your video 👍The Krico mod.600 is also sold under the name FFV-Husqvarna. I own the Husqvarna/Krico model in cal.222 rem. Great rifle with smooth action, great trigger and superb precision. Have a MTC Viper ir. scope mounted on it and a suppressor. Great for foxing and pest control on longer distance. The only con is that the plastic cap at the end of the bolt is almost always cracked. No big deal but that could have been made better. Cheers!

    Hello USOG, thank you for the great Video. I too love my Krico (.22 lr), it's a great shooter.
    About the Carl Gustaf, as far as I know Husqvarna stoped their guns manufacturing in the seventies. FFV then took over the produced and moved it to Eskilstuna (Karl Gustavs stad) and the Rifle was renamed from Husqvarna 1900 to Carl Gustav 1900. After some years also FFV stoped the production (I think because of a split up of the company) and the Productionrights were sold to Antonio Zoli in Italy, where guns with the 1900 System are still produced (actually I own an AZ1900 and are very happy with it).

    • @arneklausen8989
      @arneklausen8989 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After Husqvarna stoped. For a year or two, the riffels were manufactured and sold under the name Viking 1900. Then as far as I know Viking went bankrupt, and Zoli took over rights and machinery and moved the production to Italy, where it is today. Many of the last Viking 1900 riffels were sold in Denmark.

    I've seen a few of these at gun shows over the years but they've always been in chamberings that aren't my cup of tea. If I ever come across one in 7x57, it may very well come home with me.
    And I'll second your comment about German guns being smooth and efficiently operating rifles. The vast majority of European rifles that I've seen or shot have been designed and produced with much the same care and passion as their cars. When Europeans make an entry level rifle, it usually responds as well as their top line blued, AAAAA walnut stocked, engraved models with gold trim... When Americans make an entry level rifle, it's got a cheap looking matte finish, a hollow, lightweight, non-friendly stock, and the bolt rattles and bounces as it's worked! There's entry level and there's "cheap", spending less money doesn't equate to saving money!
    As always, I enjoyed your review and insights. Thanks!
    PS - I've recently acquired a Winchester M70 in 257 Roberts. If you have any rifles in that caliber, I'd like to hear about them. Thanks again.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent comments on European and entry level rifles Paul. I agree. I had a .257 Roberts Re. 760 until a week ago; still have a Kimber Montana - and that's all I have. I had a pre-67 M70 - but sold that as well. The Roberts, as you know, is such a fine, balanced and useful cartridge. The +P loadings approach the 25-06 - which I like as well. I really like these Kricos - have to find maybe a .243 or .308; the short action would be ideal. Thanks for writing Paul.

    KRICO is short for "Kriegeskorte" which is the name of the companys founder Robert Kriegeskorte (*1853). Here in Germany Krico rifles are a little bit underappreciated and fall behind the big names like Mauser, Sauer, Blaser etc. but as you mentioned they are almost always a good investment for little money.
    Greetings and as always thank you for quality content.

I’ve been watching this channel & his Patreon channel, too. Great host w/2 great channels. I’m curious about Krico’s 22lr. I’m looking at one that’s quite old but has a metal magazine with the name on the bottom of it. It looks like a very well made rifle that’s survived for a long time. It’s still got great rifling in its heavy barrel. Were they any good?

    My favourite rifle brand of all times :D And thank you for replying. I would suggest to try the .222 first though. That cartridge is so nice to reload accurately, because of the longer neck. Hi, I own my fathers Krico .22. I agree with you on its smoothness etc. it has to be the most accurate firearm I have used. This firearm has to be at least 60 years old now in 2023. It’s possibly older because I don’t know what year my father purchased the rifle but I’m almost 60 and he had it before me. Lol. The accuracy of it is amazing, I shot a field mouse in the head while sitting on the bonnet/hood of a moving car, at night. The mouse ran across from right to left across a dirt track, from one d field to the other, I aimed and fired and hit it in the head. I was amazed I ever hit it. Now , I’m not sure if it’s value, probably not a lot, but I will never part with it.

      Hi Romeo - beautifully made rifles - sort of giant Browning T bolts - but I am oversimplifying. Their first models were wonderful - I only handled one; they now have complicated their line and design and the last one I saw had a 2 piece stock and interchangeable barrels and what not. They are a small shop, consequently production is low and prices are high. I can't find a US distributor although someone in Texas had one or some, or so I was told - one never knows. I'll learn more and make a video if I can get my hands on one. Cheers.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns

      Hi Don, I feed just about anything to my Krico .22s - they really shoot. You're right though - top accuracy is with the RWS and Eley - but that's true for a lot of .22s. Thank you for making an effort to show people in isolated places some interesting rifles. I have owned a variety of rifles including a number of semi auto rifles. Much of my hunting is done in a dusty environment and most of the shots are taken with plenty of time to get set. When looking at some of the rifles you review I would wonder how they would function in a dusty environment. I have see very expensive rifles malfunction in the Victorian Alps with bit of rubbish entering the action. Not sure how you test for this but good bolt actions rarely fail. It is something to be considered I think.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent point John. I agree with you - the bolts do very well in dust and just about everything; with the Mauser 98 being the best of them. I'll mention this on future videos. Thanks for the good words about the channel.

    • @johnayliffe6512
      @johnayliffe6512 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. Here in Australia the SMLE 303 (the longest continuous use military rifle in history I believe and still in use today) would tolerate a massive amount of rubbish, dust and mud and still function as did some of the Soviet block rifles. I think reliability is a video topic in itself and looking at some of the multipurpose rapid fire rifles on your channel I am more how they would stand up. There is no doubt with CNC machining that really sophisticated designs with very fine tolerances can be produced but the finer the tolerances and the more fine tolerances there are the less grit it takes to gum the works up. Bolt guns have fine tolerances but really only at the locking area in real terms. Really enjoyed the video on the Krieghoff slide rifle,

Sometimes someone became confused in the process and the firearm was held or returned to origin - yet with patience ever the worst knot can be undone. : ) You could try to find the dealer over here for the brand - they often know the drill. Such a nice little rifle. It's quite uncommon by the way, that the bolt is not jewelled. I have only seen that two times before that one. Does it have the newer trigger system? (aka a little hook on the side to release the bolt, with the old ones you pulled the trigger to release). If you buy a Krico, you should look for that, the newer triggers are way better. They are often set triggers, but that was more ore less a concession to old germanic hunters and wasn't really neccessary because of the trigger characteristic. Also, the newer 600/700 models have the magazine release on the side of the stock, as opposed to inside the trigger guard.
    There is also a match trigger variety, recognisable by an angeled trigger face. To me, thats the best trigger ever designed by man. I could cry a river, they used to be 80 DM (about 40 €), as a replacement part. Now of course, they are out of production. If you find one on the used market today, they commend more than ten times that. If you find one, that is.
    Thanks again for the video.

      Thank you peterpta! I was hoping someone like you would come along - who knows more about Kricos. This one has a tiny hook or button on the left side - it sticks our above the stock by maybe 1mm or 2. The trigger is crisp and positive. The left side of the receiver is marked "Carl Gustaf" in big, very nicely done letters - but the rifle is a Krico for sure - as you can see. I'll try to find the match model - and I remember seeing the straight trigger target model somewhere - it has heavy stippling on the stock instead of checkering. These rifles are so well made! Thanks for writing.

    Krico has sold tons of .22 rifles in Europe. Generally they are rated as equal to Anschutz and similar brands. But their centerfire rifles were popular too. The last models had a thumb cocking like Blasers have today. Slick actions is a European thing since a lot of hunts are driven hunts in one way or another.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That explains a lot - the driven hunts and slick actions. I forgot to mention in the video - the slickest of all actions I own is the Blaser R84 - but it does not have a cylindrical bolt - so I didn't include it. I'll look for the thumb cocking models. Thanks!

  • @YaoiMastah
    @YaoiMastah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Krico is still quite popular in The Netherlands, mostly the .22lr version though. I can't think of any gunowner (hunter or sportshooter) who hadn't owned a Krico at least at some point in his/her life. They can still be found in gunshops, if you paid more than 150 euros for the .22lr version, you've probably been ripped off.
    There is even a special sportshooting category for these inexpensive little smallbore rifles. It's the only category where one is to participate in a team (of three shooters, sharing one rifle) who have to hit several targets at several distances in several positions (standing, kneeling and on the ground). The rationale behind that category was to keep it as cheap and inclusive as possible.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had no idea. This all sounds pretty good. Glad that the The Netherlands keep up with some shooting! Out of ignorance - I thought there was very little shooting left. Thanks for writing.

    • @YaoiMastah
      @YaoiMastah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, sportshooting is still strong. Not as popular as before, though. And not as popular as with our neighbours. And most sportshooters tend to not advertise their sport to those around them, except for the traditional Church parish marksman guilds (similar to German Schützenvereins, except with more folklore and more beer).

    Krico rifles were inexpensive, precise rifles, high quality and durable. Many still work very well today. They have always been in the shadow of the Mauser and Sauer rifles, but have a similary good build quality. The first police sniper units in Germany were equipped with Krico rifles from 1980. I own a Krico 700 Luxus in 7x64. The action is very smooth, but I installed a better and newer trigger from the gunsmith Faude in germany. The rifle is relatively light compared to others, although it is made entirely of wood and steel without plastic parts. The barrel is relatively thin, but strangely enough, it still shoots precisely when the barrel is hot. You should pay attention to newer versions, recognizable by a small lever which is located above the trigger on the top left of the chamber. With Brennecke TIG cartridges the Krico shoots groups of shots by 2-3 cm at 100m. Those who own such a Krico today usually no longer sell it, unfortunately there are no more spare parts for it.

    Krico rifles are awesome rifles. accurate far beyond there cost. Allot of the Anschutz rifles are in fact Krico made. the Husky rifles were Krico model 600 and 700 guns. they were brought in by a company called Tradewinds. They were Branded as the husky 5000. Tradewinds now defunct also brought in the husqvarna rifles.

    Krico is / was quite popular here in Denmark. Especially the model 700 / 720 full stock version. Hunters here see them as almost as good quality - but at a cheaper price - than a Sauer 80/90 or a Steyr Mannlicher model M. There are a lot of them for sale here. The majority of dealers have more or less used Krico's in stock. I even know of a dealer that have 14 of them in stock at the moment, where 10 of them is full stock model 600/700/720 in normal and lux grades.

      I also myself own a Krico 720 lux (full stock) in 30.06. Bought it for close to nothing in basically unfired condition a year or so ago. I don't use it a whole load, but it's nice rifle to have in the collection.

    Never heard of Krico, looks like a fine rifle. As far as the safety goes the person who wanted it moved may have had a disability. My neighbor has a heavily sporterised 7.7 Jap. His arthritis prevents him from using the safety so he wants me to install a Timney trigger group with a more traditional hunting rifle style safety. Thanks for sharing.

    USOG thanks for another great video. Don't you dare replace the triple deuce, it was a record holder don't you know. The .223 is ubiquitous and even I can afford the .222, sadly a lot of people probably though that way, the CZ 527 is no longer made in .222 only .223 and .22 hornet. Rifles still plenty available, but no new ones coming out. The Europeans chamber that cartridge more than American do or so it seems.

    CZ produces great rifles but they sell most of them in the USA. We in Europe have to wait a long time or even don't get them. I can recommend the CZ527 6,5 Grendel. It is an excellent lightweight hunting rifle.

      Hi Rupert, You have so much experience. I wonder - is the .458 Lott that much better than the .458 Win. Mag.? Several people have asked. I see a ballistic advantage in the Lott - is it necessary? Please let me know when convenient for you.

    • @rupertmcnaughtdavis7302
      @rupertmcnaughtdavis7302 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excuse the delay,just back from a venison collecting trip.Like many things theory and practice are not always the same,and this is an example.True,on paper the Lott is superior,but the question is,is it necessary? It is well documented that the Win.Mag went through teething pains, powder wise. But that was 60 years ago and it was soon sorted out. It`s popularity answers the question.The Win.Mag is standard issue in nearly all game departments in Africa.It is standard issue at all game lodges and with guides in national parks,many professional hunters carry it. If they entrust their lives and the lives of their clients, it has to be able to do the job, and to do it reliably and safely,and it does! The reason I settled for a 375 H&H for carry in Big Five country and not a 458Win Mag,. was because I felt the former would be of a more wider use in the general hunting field .Having said that I would dearly love to own a 458 Win Mag Model 70 African!

      The Crown rests it's case. I agree. The .458 stands without shame; an awesome, capable and proven cartridge. All it needs, is a capable shot. Thank you so much for your expertise.
