I'd like to see him make a series where covers every Digimon. I'm not really a fan of it I just like looking at their designs sometimes although I know there are WAY more Digimon than Pokémon.

While a lot of digimon are pretty simple due to their names usually stating the inspiration, there are still some cool parts when you look at them a bit deeper. For example, asuramon's three faces wear a red, blue, and yellow mask each, which could be a reference to the devil in Dante's Inferno.

Game is still alive and well, development is just slow due to Covid; and it being a small indie company. Their most recent major update actually explained this, Covid set them back a lot.

You fight enemies that you can either catch or persiade to your side or battle them to upgrade their moves and stats. Monster Hunter is an action game (in most games) that features several monsters but rather in the form of different bosses. Basically monster based boss rush mode. Im not disagreeing with your notion, its just MH franchise is a different type of game so the example doesnt work here. Have a good day though, hope i didnt come across like an a-hole.
This was interesting! Temtem get a lot of flack for being based on relatively simple concepts ala gen I of Pokémon but it's cool that some of these are a little more in depth in terms of origins and inspirations. Also as a primarily Spanish speaker, it's so nice to see names inspired by the Spanish language. Very good video!
i have no idea how temtem plays, i hear its actually quite good, but seeing the monster designs back to back like this really shows how valuable a central theme can take you. Just look at this compared to bugsnax! Almost a night and day difference.

Calling anything a pokemon killer pretty much always has the opposite effect. We should just let things like new monster catching games stand on their own instead of being compared to everything else more popular.
I play the game and I enjoy it, they try to address many of the complains fans have with pokémon. Oddly enough, I believe that is actually what made this game flop. What makes Pokémon popular are the creatures, not the animations, graphics, story or balanced gameplay. And in the creatures department they clearly don't come near to Pokémon. With a few exceptions, this video shows how their design philosophy lead to uninspired and uninteresting creatures. It is good enough to maybe survive for a few more years, but I don't see it getting a bigger player base than it already has.
Damn, looking through these really demonstrates how glad we should be that, for better or worse, Pokemon typically change quite a bit on evolving. Why does every Temtem just evolve into "same, just bigger, and angrier". If you want a Pokemon-style game with better designs that as a plus *wasn't* marketed to pander to Gen 8 haters, just play Nexomon instead.
Both of you haven’t watched past platypet’s line, a lot of tems are quite different upon evolution, also do I need to point out some pokemon that have the same flaw you mentioned here, such as the living pile of poisonous sludge that evolves into a bigger pile of poisonous sludge?

I've actually recently picked this game back up with the new update coming up. This was perfectly timed. I hope this video might convince a few more people to try out the game. It's no "Pokemon Killer" but it's a satisfying fix if you were disappointed in Sword and Shield like I was. Can't wait to see where this game goes.

Stil gotta play temtem, it seems to be a good game to play along with pokemon rather than an alternative, similar feel with different mechanics ^^ beautiful as well!
The reasons I think TemTem is better then Pokemon: 1 - It’s actually challenging. You have to actually think about what you’re doing. You can’t just spam your starter stronger attack through the whole game. 2 - The mechanics and battles are more interesting and strategic because they are always doubles. There is no RNG in battles. Stamina over PP. And you have to worry about synergies. 3 - The story is good, with interesting twists and turns. There is a lot in terms of worldbuilding. You can understand each island culture and history, the world geopolitics and stuff like that. With good discussions on sociology. The dialogues have just the right amount of sarcasm and meta humor. And the game is super inclusive. 4 - You’ll get to play it in almost all platforms. And you can play it co-op with a friend. And it’s way cheaper then Pokemon for what it offers, specially considering that to have the complete Pokemon game you need to buy 2 copies. 5 - It’s done by a company that actually cares about making a good game!
Funfacts: Platyplet used to be a fakemon design until the artist asked the makers of Temtem to include him. Also Anahir is stated to be a mutated form of Sherald or believed to be ingame and as of the first time I played there was only one way to get that mon and that was by catching it during the story encounter.

I just realized like halfway through this that their eyes are basically just painted on… Like it's just a part of their skin and they don't actually move. Ones eyes even curve with its body so it's definitely just a part of the texture of the actual model

And Nagaise is really similar to the Na'vi from Avatar 2... 😲 I think the peach inspiration for Momo is really cool because you get a gift Momo (from Carlos) nicknamed Melocotón (peach in Spanish). the anglosphere is really weird, here in brazil temtem is relatively popular, as i think in other lusophone and spanish speaking countries, due to the acessibility and price of the game. isnt a pokemon killer, but you anglophone guys are really dramatic with everything. its a fun game that you should try.
I think it is more the Americans that are really dramatic with everything. And for me, the design process is really quite a breaker. They don't seem think "ooh this might be a cool creature to add to the world!" but more "We need this creature to balance out the meta." There was something with the Temtem's feel that just felt... off, and I think it might be because of that.

I think Saipat is a reference to Psyduck, because "Sai" sounds like "Psy" and "pat" is almost "duck" in Spanish (almost because it lacks the "o" of "pato").
This was a really interesting video and if your looking for another collectable monster game to look at may I suggest spectrobe, a game series from a few years ago.
I was under the impression that Barnshe's design was mostly inspired by Pennywise from Stephen King's 'It'. It's supposed to be a nod to one of the developers/discord community manager's use of Pennywise as their avatar.

The Scoopy Banoopy callback caught me offguard. As I was watching that video on Bugsnax, I thought of the words Scoopy then Banoopy, and low and behold...

Stil gotta play temtem, it seems to be a good game to play along with pokemon rather than an alternative, similar feel with different mechanics ^^ beautiful as well!
I'm waiting into it's closer to full release so I don't get burnt out by playing the beta too much.
The reasons I think TemTem is better then Pokemon:
1 - It’s actually challenging. You have to actually think about what you’re doing. You can’t just spam your starter stronger attack through the whole game.
2 - The mechanics and battles are more interesting and strategic because they are always doubles. There is no RNG in battles. Stamina over PP. And you have to worry about synergies.
3 - The story is good, with interesting twists and turns. There is a lot in terms of worldbuilding. You can understand each island culture and history, the world geopolitics and stuff like that. With good discussions on sociology. The dialogues have just the right amount of sarcasm and meta humor. And the game is super inclusive.
4 - You’ll get to play it in almost all platforms. And you can play it co-op with a friend. And it’s way cheaper then Pokemon for what it offers, specially considering that to have the complete Pokemon game you need to buy 2 copies.
5 - It’s done by a company that actually cares about making a good game!
If I dozed off and woke up to this video playing I would be 100% sure I traveled to an alternate reality.
Funfacts: Platyplet used to be a fakemon design until the artist asked the makers of Temtem to include him.
Also Anahir is stated to be a mutated form of Sherald or believed to be ingame and as of the first time I played there was only one way to get that mon and that was by catching it during the story encounter.
for those of you who are wondering, the starters are the following temtem: (also crystal beats mental, mental beats melee, melee beats crystal. so there is your starter type triangle)
1. Crystle: Crystal Type
2. Houchic: Mental Type
3. Smazee: Melee Type

Was it just me or does the temtem hocus and pocus sound similar to abra, kadabra and alakazam from pokemon like magic words used by magicians this could also explain its psychic/mental type

Toxolotl and Noxolotl are probably kinda based in Aztec mythology as well, giving them their slightly more mammalian looks
I just realized like halfway through this that their eyes are basically just painted on…
Like it's just a part of their skin and they don't actually move. Ones eyes even curve with its body so it's definitely just a part of the texture of the actual model
That could always be fixed as they are still being updated but i don't now for sure
They close ther eyes during animations or with the "sleeping" status effect

I think the peach inspiration for Momo is really cool because you get a gift Momo (from Carlos) nicknamed Melocotón (peach in Spanish).
Also, Grumper is clearly Grumpy + Ampere (unit of electrical current).
I think something in Seismunch is that the Seis is like a Seismagraph which measures the strength of earthquakes giving it another reason for the second type

You JUST learned that? I mean, I wouldn’t have made the connection since ash isn’t a professor, but I thought that was one of the commonly known trees. Though, Ash trees can be kinda weird from my understanding because of the name being used for different kinds of trees

i absolutely love the stage 1 designs. so many cute chibi babies.
the anglosphere is really weird, here in brazil temtem is relatively popular, as i think in other lusophone and spanish speaking countries, due to the acessibility and price of the game.
isnt a pokemon killer, but you anglophone guys are really dramatic with everything.
its a fun game that you should try.
I may want to at some point, but the creatures aren't too eye-catcing for me. Who knows, though? May give it a shot at some point.
I think it is more the Americans that are really dramatic with everything. And for me, the design process is really quite a breaker. They don't seem think "ooh this might be a cool creature to add to the world!" but more "We need this creature to balance out the meta." There was something with the Temtem's feel that just felt... off, and I think it might be because of that.

I think Saipat is a reference to Psyduck, because "Sai" sounds like "Psy" and "pat" is almost "duck" in Spanish (almost because it lacks the "o" of "pato").

I was under the impression that Barnshe's design was mostly inspired by Pennywise from Stephen King's 'It'. It's supposed to be a nod to one of the developers/discord community manager's use of Pennywise as their avatar.
