Idk if it's just me, but the paradox pokemon names sound like the pokemon categories, like "Blah Blah the Great Tusk Pokémon" or "Blah Blah the Iron Moth Pokémon"
Yeah that's how I see them, more like titles. Some people are upset about that but I'm glad because it allows me to just continue referring to them as and thinking of them as the species they are based on. I've wanted a Jigglypuff, Magneton, and Misdreavus that don't evolve for a really long time
My guess is that their actual names are supposed to be the same as their original forms - Iron Treads and Great Tusk is just Donphan but they are different enough to need different classification.
Guys, go look at Iron Treads Sleeping (yeah despite being "robots" the Iron Pokemon sleep and eat), it rocks itself back and forth in its Tread! The seemingly robotic pokemon performs an action instinctive to organic life: seeking comfort. They aren't robots, THEY'RE CYBORGS UNDER A MECHANICAL EXOSKELETON! On that note I think Volcaron had the easiest transition, it swapped out its Chitin Exoskeleton for a metal one.
yknow somewhat supporting your cyborg theory, other sources claim that Iron Hands is an athlete that was mortally wounded and kept alive using a mechanical body that just so happens to look like hariyama
Every heard of DNA computers? It's possible the irons have those Simple Ai based on their non-iron counterpart. As for volcorona maybe not so much but it is possible to make an ai exoskeletal creature someone did it with a xenomorph a sun bug shouldnt be an issue
Paradox pokemon are essentially convergent evolutions taken from diferent eras (the very distant past or the very distant future) that are also meant to be like the "big foots" of the pokemon world. So the weird names and the primitive/robotic designs make sense in my eyes since they're supposed to be like cryptids (that are creatures from cryptozoology and ufology mainly known from anecdotal stories and other claims rejected by the scientific community). Which is why they all resemble known creatures but also have descriptions with bizarre lore and why they're featured in tabloids like the occulture magazine.
One thing you have to keep in mind with Chien-Pao is that the sword IS the Pokémon, not the snow leopard/weasel thing. That's basically just a construct created in order to move around, so it makes sense that the sword fragments would pierce the construct's face since they would stick better, and it's not like it would hurt or anything (hell, if anything, whatever pain Chien-Pao feels would probably stem from the fact that the sword, its actual body, is broken into two pieces)
I honestly would have liked it better if the swords pierced it's body or perhaps eyes, but I can easily see that being too violent for current gen Pokemon. As is the swords are just... Too long for the pseudo-fangs they're meant to look like.
then again, i feel like the sword just kinda take over the corpse of a snow leopard, which would be really dark but hey, what can you expect from a quartet who literally almost destroyed paldea
Actually the flames coming from skeledirge’s mouth is shaped like marigold, the flower of the dead. So it makes sense why the flames are like that & obviously it isn’t clown hair, though it still looks like it that’s not what was intended in the design . Sure they coulda found a different way to execute that idea but I think Skeledirge is still badass & one of my favorites this gen
Soo far what I know about skeledirge is she's inspired from: 1.crocodile 2.sugar skull 3.singer 4.bird and crocodile mutualism relationship 5.saxofons looking tail 6.pheonix 7.mike 8.bird eye view of a concert looking head 9.stadium looking body 10.el Coco 11.bird nest looking fire on its mouth 12.the fire on its mouth also look like pyrotechnic on some stage 13.Alebrije 14."Dirge" a song to reminisce the dead 15.pennywise because there is a myth that crocodile live in sewer just like pennywise and that one of more reason that skeledirge is a ghost type 16.And now this freaking flower of the dead
I’ll be real, when he said “Blaziken’s bottom”, I thought it was just an exclamation, like “by Poseidon’s beard” or something, but now my perspective has completely shifted… and I agree 100%. I dunno why some of the most recent water starters ended up being either flamboyant or limp-wristed, but I kinda love it
Clodsire is not only adorable, it’s also great execution of a really cool concept! Basically the skull and crossbones on Wooper/Clod aren’t just because of the poison typing; They’re also based off the Iberian ribbed newt, which is a salamander that has sharp rips. When it’s threatened, it arches its back, poking its sharp bone spikes out at attackers. Its skin regenerates soon after, though, so don’t worry. That’s what the things that come out of clodsire’s back are.
I really like how Skeledirge isn't part Ghost type because it's dead, but rather it's fireball plover bird gained a soul when it hatched. It's a really nice subversion of what it means to be a Ghost type, and that's why I really like it.
yeah thats what made me love it. it's just like a little precious creature, that's filled with so much love it created its own baby that it likes to look after
After I caught Smolliv, I was walking around with it for a while and legitimately paused my game multiple times to check around the house because I thought my cat was puking… Turns out, it was just Smolliv’s cry 😑
Spidops feels like an old-school spy and I cherish that. Being a spy doesn't need some cool tuxedo agents style to it. Rather, the more it can blend in the background, the better, and in this case, it has a countryside feel to it, like a retired agent maybe. It's a nostalgic string toy, fantasy robot puppet with some old-fashioned esthetic to it (color, name, head and joints) and is a solid design for me.
Iron jugulis's heads are actually holograms A bit hard to notice at first but upon closer inspection you can see the lines that make it up This also explains why it's iron *jugulis* as in iron necks, cause the actual mon itself is the necks, it lacks actual heads
I really like Iron Jugulis because of this. The hologram faces are super cool. Easily my second favourite of the future Paradox Pokemon after Iron Moth.
While I am not excited about the starters, it is cool that each of them is the embodiment of performance. The magician The dancer Then the literally stage/singer/pyro works (his head is the seating chart of a stadium and his signature move turns into a microphone)
That's what leads me to think that maybe the 3 starters are originally from Central/South America, and have less peaceful evolutions, similar to Decidueye. The stealthy look of Floragato perhaps being more of a thief, becoming more like Puss-in-boots. I was so sure that Water/Fighting meant Quaxley would become much closer to a pirate/swashbuckling. Fuecoco I'm not sure how else it could evolve, since I'm not familiar with any other cultural/regional things.
@@kevinfrench9753 I’m imagining Skeledirge would instead take on the appearance of the Egyptian Ammit, a Lion with a Crocodile head that eats the sinful dead in Egyptian myth. Would fit the ghost type. The fire trailing out of its mouth could look like a lion mane!
Oh just a note on Veluza. People seemed confused why it is so fast in the overworld but so slow in battle. That’s because of its move fillet away where it sheds enough weight to become fast. In battle this raises speed, but also if you watch closely in the overworld you can see it shed its exterior before launching at you. Fun concept. Unfortunately not great for battle prowess.
Bombirdier is in this region mainly because of two reasons: cranes are very very typical and famous here in Spain, they're even symbolic animals on some places (like Extremadura); and because one of its inspirations, if not the main one, is the italian Fiat BR.20 Cicogna ("crane" in italian), a medium bomber plane used mainly and for the first time in the Spanish Civil War. I started to appreciate this Pokémon more after knowing that last thing lol
The first time I saw Pawmo was in one of those groups, and I just thought it was a shiny Pawmi. It took like a full 30 seconds of looking at it to figure out that it wasn't Pawmi.
This line has grown on me fsr. Ik it's bland but I get where the fighting type comes from because of it. Like the Pokedex image shows in 17:10 , it looks like the entire line is practicing some martial art skit or something with let in let out (imagine that Kung Fu Panda 2 scene of Po reaching inner piece whilst channeling the water droplet). At the same time, I think the line's naming convention, related with the above imagery, is cute lol, like the three forms of Paw or something ha-ha. Also, that small blue circle on its paw just keeps on reminding me of iron man... Well, I get that the entire line is bland tho, I was disliking it too at first.
The one thing that I can't, with everything that just feels particularly off in these games, for the life of me, understand is...why Pawmo is noticeably lighter than Pawmi Pawmott instantly reverts it back to Pawmi shade, so...did they just do that to differentiate Pawmo and Pawmi? Because if that was needed to tell the difference, that's how you can *tell it's a problem* !
I kinda wish Baxcalibur went more for a Spinosaurus type look instead of a repeat of Godzilla since Tyranitar already takes that role and executes it better imo. It kinda seemed like that's what they were going for at first with Arctibax but then inexplicably changed. Or if they'd just went for another draconic kaiju in the first place..
My personal take is that Ttar is a more classic take on Godzilla, whereas Baxcaliber looks more like the more modern Western interpretations of the character
Honestly, it makes me think of Scovillain in a way A lot of what it has going for it is the new thing it introduced (the former being an ice type Pseudo-Legend, the latter being a fire/grass) type being most of what's going for it, while the design just ends up looking...off, and a bit goofy
I've seen art of Baxcalibur, and just based on one specific piece, I feel like even if its neck was more hunched over instead of standing straight up, it would have looked better
im kinda sad about the name they used, like i get it, but now i dont think we'll get a legendary dragon/pseudo legend dragon thats named "Draxcaliber" and is a dragon weilding Excalibur. wasted potential for the name if i say so myself
If, for some strange and unlikely reason, they decide to replace pikachu as the pokemon mascot, I think that tinkaton would do the job pretty well, not only because it’s such a great pokemon, but also because Gamefreak has a history of screwing over pokemon from the previous generation.
Here's my hot take, I actually think the future paradox pokemon and past paradox pokemon have really interesting naming conventions. They are both really blurry and unreal, but in totally different ways. They're designed to give these creatures a lack of identity. They don't have specific names like pokemon do. It's describing the origins of these pokemon I think. For example, the past paradox mons are more immediately descriptive like a cave man trying to describe something to avoid or see. Watch out for the roaring moon or the fluttering mane. It's premoderm, random and chaotic. The future paradox pokemon are descriptive in a colder sense. Like a scentific catalogue very uniform and concise. It's criticize for being bland and that's a good thing because it's supposed to be bland. Iron Bundle, Iron Hands, Iron Moth. Think of a real species like "yellow-headed house finch" it's the same concept, but taken to an extreme.
I like to imagine scream tail literally screams as it's version of singing, this was an attempt to become friends with things like the present jigglypuff would, but obviously in its time, it'd either prompt something to fight it or run in terror. Humans were scared to approach, they could only observe it fearfully and cautiously, its hair looks like a big tail, it screams, there ya go, scream tail.
I really don’t understand why frigibax is generally disliked. The moment I saw it, it was love at first sight. It’s so cute and timid looking and then it tries to be tough and it’s adorable, and it also has a really unique and cool looking design. Other than Cyndaquil, no other Pokémon has personally appealed to me as much, that’s how much I adore it, which is why it’s so funny that no one else really does 😅 Also, on an unrelated note, Klawf’s cry sounds like a dying cow and I’ve never been more confused.
Fair! I think it’s the “cute for certain tastes” way. Kinda like a pug, or certain rodents: to some, they’re ugly as sin, or too weird to be adorable. To others, they’re precious babies who need love. I think it’s the humor or weirdness that can make people go one way or another, it’s like when a sculpture has chisel marks. They’re imperfections that are understandable, a mark that wasn’t removed or actively permitted, but it also gives it character, and for some it’s why they love it, while for others they dislike it.
Thank you for talking about the cute difference in Koraidon and Miraidon! Without the tongue Miraidon’s animal attitude almost feels forced, compared to the absolute goof that is the lovable Koraidon.
I can't bring myself to finish Scarlet because I dislike Koraidon so much. It's literally like a motorycle grew back legs and stood up to stomp around like it had BDE. Miraidon is a hoverbike and a good boi and a snoring robot is the most precious thing ever.
I didn't even realize that Miraidon didn't have a tongue until seeing like 3 different content creators playing Scarlet and then comparing the scenes to what happens in Violet. I can definitely see why it takes away a bit of personality, but I do still personally like Miraidon more. It has such a cool design in its Ultimate form, better than Koraidon does IMO.
Mabosstiff is the GF way to say "we can sell any pokemon with our story". I hate how the damn mastiffs look and how they pounce on you, but the story of that specific mabostiff just melts my heart and I can't help but love this big old pupper.
If you played Scarlet, I'm curious how much you've seen of the Violet paradox Pokémon. The main appeal with them, for me at least, is the super unique animations. The way Iron Bundle launches its head off on a spring, the way Iron Moth emotes like one of those robot dog toys and moves its wings in front of it to attack, etc.. The only truly bad one is Iron Jugulis, who actually has nothing interesting about it. But I will say, the idea of actual speculative evolution designs instead of just robots would have been pretty cool. I have also realized you forgot to even mention Flutter Mane, which I think is a testament to its... existence.
Iron Jugulis has exactly one... *interesting* thing about it. The Scarlet dex entry that claims it was made from "A Hydreigon falling in love with a robot." ...So uh, yeah, *weird* implications there. Lmfao.
I played Violet while my friend played Scarlet. She would look over and, just, absolutely hates how Iron Bundle looks, and that's only partially because she loves Delibird. That said, while none of them are that bad (I'll even give Iron Jugulis some props for being relatively-unchanged)...I do wish they did a little more to make them not just "X Pokemon, made into a robot".
Skelidirge's clown hair is actually supposed to be both the birds nest, but they're also supposed to look like Cempasuchil flowers, the flowers used in the Day of the Dead so that the departed can find their way to their loved ones. At first I also thought it looked goofy, but after connecting the flower motif to it's Pokedex entry where it's singing can soothe peoples souls, I loved it, and I think it has to be in my top 3 fire starters now ☺️
Gholdengo really grew on me a lot. Yes it’s just the string cheese guy but gold, but it’s just SO FUN. It feels like GameFreak just went full meme with it but also it’s so strong. Number 1000 was not what I expected but after a bit, I’m happy with it, and most all of the new ones
Fun Fact: Both Roaring Moon AND Iron Valiant are based off/implement the Mega Evolution designs of Salamence and Gallade, which fits in nicely with them having the highest BST of all the Paradox Pokemon.
I personally love all the 4 legendaries because of the fact that their actual forms are the treasures themselves. Their bodies are just them using their control of their respective element/type to create a vessel
A fan made a squishy one that was 4 feet long so only 2 off from its official size, was sold through auction though. Im waiting for the inevitable mochi keychain sized one that'll probably be released through pokemon center japan
20:05 Klawf is blushing because in the Pokédex it says they Spend most of their time hunting by staying upside down on cliffs and ambush prey form above, but they usually get dizzy from it because their blood rushes to their heads, and when your upside down for a long time you star to turn red in your cheeks because of the blood rushing into your head, so Klawfs blushing cheeks are just a way to reference that I think. I care for Klawf deeply
I absolutly LOVE clodsire. Based on it's attack animation, I'm pretty sure it's based on the Iberian ribbed newt, which has a weird and unique defence mechinim. When in trouble, these newts will move their ribs to the point that the pointy parts of their ribs stick out of their skin and form spikes. They are also poisonous, so the new typing works. Edit: fixed a typo.
I first wasn't quite sure what to think of Palafin Hero Form. I didn't really dislike it but I was also expecting something different for the first dolphin pokémon. Then I used it in battle and oh my god, this thing is an absolute monster. This Hero single handedly swept through so many trainers and gyms just with Water and Fighting moves. I love the animation it makes when it first enters battle, raising its fist with that gold sparkle effect and the animation of Jet Punch made it even cooler. It just has a really cool personality and its pokédex entry stating thats its the superhero of the oceans is awesome. Also in german its name is "Delfinator", a combination of Dolphin and Terminator, whats not to love about that? I really love it, its probably up there in my Top 10 and its my personal Hero.
Yeah for sure. The design is pretty weird upon first look, but it easily becomes one of the most memorable Pokémon in the game due to its concept, gimmick, insane stats and awesome animations.
Every time Glimmora comes up I feel like I'm the only person who's heard of cave flowers. The gypsum formations called oulopholites look like crystal flowers growing out of the stone in some caves. The anthodites (literally "flower stone") refer to a couple other formations that look like flowers on cave walls
Lockstin: Complains about the stork Pokemon for being "just a stork". Also Lockstin: Likes the flamingo Pokemon for being "just a flamingo". I will not tolerate the continued assault on my favorite bird Pokemon this generation, Bombirdier!
Houndstone and greavard are creative. In-game greavard go around houndstone and they all bury themselves, leaving their top portions showing. It's the illusion of candles at a grave stone, a burial site. It took me a second to get it too, but there's a concept there
It's a cool concept, I just hate how Greavard's candles look like Litwick. Even just making the dog body black or grey would've made it look less like it had a tiny Litwick on its head
I definitely get the idea of what Dudunsparce is supposed to be (An underwhelming looking evolution to an underwhelming Pokemon) but I’d like to imagine that if it was Dragon type like what many fan evolutions of Dunsparce have done, Dudunsparce would’ve gotten some big wings. I’m just happy we got a fully quadrupedal fire starter in Skeledirge. I personally think that Dondozo could’ve used a pre-evolution
I get the disappointment of dudunsparce, but I do agree not every derpy Pokémon has to have the magikarp treatment some are meant to be derpy and that’s fine. I do wish it was at least got another type like ground.
Dunsparce isn't a dragon and isn't based off a dragon it will never be a dragon or a dragon type stop asking it's not happening please you're all so annoying it's not a dragon
I really like Baxcalibur because it tingles the nostalgia parts of my brain. SV seemingly had multiple new artists come in and one of them was clearly an old Japanese Godzilla fan. Tyranitar is maybe based on old kaiju, sure, but Baxcalibur is explicitly based on the goofy era of rubber suit Godzilla moves where he danced around and defied gravity with his legendary drop kick. Baxcalibur is a walking reference and that’s lovely to me. The concept of Pokémon being monsters that can be your friend is a wonderful connection to make since that era of Godzilla showed him as a sort of hero
35:25 That's honestly actually my favorite part about chien-pao. It kind of makes it feel like the snow body was made by the sword rather than the sword just being the snow body's tusks, which I'm pretty sure is accurate to it's lore.
According to the dex all the ruin legends are just the items that collected their elements and came to life. So technically the sword is the Pokémon’s core in a way
Fun fact: the Nacli line is shaped like blocks because at the molecular level, salt (NaCl) is shaped like little squares. Under the right conditions, large blocks of salt can form in nature that have a square/cube-like shape.
I love the fact that Greavard and Houndstone represent the trope of spirits/zombies waking up from the grave. They also make the reference of the movie "Pet Cemetery", and precisely the design of Houndstone reminds me of the Cleric Beast in Bloodborne.
Someone also said that Houndstone's "hair" reminds them of decaying flesh, and that's why they don't like them. That interpretation is why I love them even more now.
Am I the only one who feels like it makes more sense for Veluza to be a Ghost type rather than psychic? Self Mutilation for power fits the Ghost type's MO far more than it does Psychic. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait for Veluza's dedicated lore video for my answer.
It’s a reference to how psychics are mind over matter. There are various psychic Pokémon that don’t eat for long periods of time in order to increase their power, Veluza is just taking it further by literally shedding its skin to be powerful
@@jeremyjones7436 Ok, fair enough. But Fasting as a way to hone concentration is one thing. SELF MUTILATION, and literally exposing your own spine and ribs is so over the top morbid that it fits the ghost type FAR better.
When It comes to the future paradox pokemon, I see their naming convention as kind of a product line. Like their all serialized for marketing purposes, so they can sell you on the entire set while being built from similiar parts to keep production costs down. "Now introducing the latest in greatest to are iron line monsters, Iron Valiant!!!"
@@kevinstephenson3531 I don't think they are made out of a Pokémon, more so are robots/androids made to mimic Pokémon. Which is why some of the irons don't stray to far from their original designs. That I don't want to image Iron valiant being made from an organic Pokémon, especially when it is taking from two separate sources for it's design.
I absolutely love all the fully evolved starters. We've got a dancing duck that seems to be inspired by Carnival, a performing Lynx that seems to be inspired by masquerade or Mardi Gras, and a singing crocodile that looks to be inspired by Dia de Los Muertos. "Flamboyant Party" is a running theme my little thespian heart and I can get behind!
Lokix is also supposed to be a Chainsaw pokemon. Locusts constantly eat farmers crops and thus are known to be plant removal. Then they took that and combined it with deforestation for a Bug/Dark chainsaw locust, with a pinch of Power Rangers for personality.
And the iron part still feels really cool to say. Iron Valiant sounds heroic. Iron Bundle sounds like something sturdy or strong and Iron Treads is like something kinda terrifying since it's really something that can run over you and crush you to death.
But with all named "Iron", it sounds bland tbh. I prefer if they use machine numbers/codename, just like Ultra beasts. It would be cooler and "future-y"
Yeah I can agree with Koraidon being more expressive than Miraidon. The biggest thing being it lacks the eye lids necessary to convey facial expressions. At the beginning of the game, Koraidon looks like it's debating whether or not it should save you, meanwhile Miraidon looks more annoyed lol
I think miraidon doesn't show its tongue because miraidon and koraidon suppose to represent cat and dog personality Koraidon show tounge when happy like dog playfull like dog and all Miraidon is like a cat smug and intelligent but still love you and play with you Edit:even miraidon cry sound like cat purring
5:50 some bugs have some pretty 'man-made' looking parts, so maybe it's a reference to that Take trapjaw ants, who's mandibles lock in place with what are basically gears
Love watching your impressions. It’s so interesting to see how people become attached to certain designs. I absolutely love Scovillain and it’s design. I know it’s goofy and kind of a mess of a design but I love when a Pokémon has that goofy factor to it.
I won't lie, I got some serious Kingdom Heart vibes from Ceruledge. I seriously thought that thing came straight out of Hollow Bastion. I was like "Um, I think you're a bit lost here. Sora and compney isn't here I'm afraid." Also I see the artist kept Lockstins face on the Pawmi section. Nice touch.
However you feel about Skeledirge is fine. But Torch Song is one of the coolest signature moves. Shooting a phoenix out of a mic stand with a shout? Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
BLAIZAKEN'S BOTTOM!!! LOVE IT!!! I hated all the future paradox Pokémon simply because the names made me think they were all Steel type, which had me ripping my hair out trying to figure out why my attacks weren't working on them. That said, I love the design of Iron Valient. I think it would be cool to get a third Kirlia Evo that combines Gardevoir and Gallade like that, Fairy/Fighting type and all.
I think that all the future paradoxes being ambiguous in typing made the final battle figuring out their typings really fun. They definitely need more than just iron in their games though
2:16 This was actually my initial reaction to Sandyghast. It was completely inverted as soon as I saw it animated: those adorable little nub-arms and the way they wave with joy... It's perfect.
Moreover, I guess for another thing is that Meowscarada joins the ranks of the group/faction of Starter Pokemon that despite the gender ratio, their design plus theme-origin heavily implies them to being Female Pokemon; just like they did with Delphox and Primarina, as Meowscarda's pokemon category & design seem to imply that she is based off of Masked Female Stageshow Magicians. (And I guess the same thing applies toward Quaquaval too as I think people assume Quaquaval possibly leaning towards being Female because Quauquaval's humanoid design theme appearance, overworld movement animations, pokemon category (even its name in both english & japanese), and even its species origin is based on Female Carnival Dancers; in which they're not wrong as the view of it being female makes sense if you know the culture & look at Quaquaval for it
I chose Fuecoco, and I LOVE IT!!! It, Cyclizar, and Tinkaton have become my MVPs of my team. Also, sidenote, Cyclizar has become one of my favorite Pokemon ever, alongside Maushold and Tinkaton
I don’t think it was mentioned in the video, but I absolutely LOVE Flutter Mane (paradox Misdreavus) as well as Tinkaton! I love when fairy types aren’t just cute little guys, also why I love Mimikyu and Grimmsnarl
I think there's a lot of hidden details with the most future paradox pokemon that make them really endearing once you notice them, at least to me. Like, Iron Bundle for instance: Its head is attatched to its torso with a spring, and it uncoils all Jack-in-the-box like when its K.O'd, and it doesn't usually walk like Delibird, its feet are also like skis for it to glide across the floor. Despite them being robots, it adds a lot of personality to them that I feel is easy to miss.
Dondozo is the goat to me,along with little Tatsugiri. I absolutely love using this pair and they just synergizes so in both Doubles and Singles with the amazing ability mechanics and move pool. You could go for Curly Form and make Dondozo an unstoppable force, or go for droopy and make it an immovable object. Or you can make him FAST AS FRIG with Stretchy form. It’s such a gem and I love this pair, and are up there for favorite Pokémon of all time for me, and absolutely my favorite of this generation.
By itself Dondozo got unaware and is pretty bulky as well. And yea the little genius sushi boss and the big sushi chef henchman is definitely in my top fav list this gen!
Garganacl wasnt planned to be a member of my team when I played. I wanted to get Dudunsparce but all the Dunsparce I found ran away from me so I just kept using the Nacli line. Once he got salt cure, recover and rock polish. He became super fun to use just stalling, healing and getting faster. Became a favorite of mine from this gen. Edit: TInkaton stan as well, and absolutely love Dudunsparce. I too feel its the perfect evo for Dunsparce as I always worried they'd ruin what I love about it, but the fact its just MORE Dunsparce. Did not disappoint.
Frigibax is based on baby godzilla His mid evolution is also another godzilla reference And finally baxcalibur is 100% a godzilla reference even with it's signature move being a ref to how godzilla flies with it's nuclear breath, but icy breath instead
@@ExcalibeonSwordofEeveelutions ah but youre mistaken Ttar was never a godzilla reference It was a reference to a different kaiju From ultraman ... Yeah ttar straight up was never meant to be godzilla
@@chickadeestevenson5440 Hope not, it'd be horrible representation for such a uniquely archeologically discussed dinosaur! So many unique design options just from all the different iterations of the spinosaurus itself and this godzilla try-hard knock off is it?!
Ah so what I learned from this video is that everyone's pokemon preferences tend to contradict all the time lol Ex. " this pokemon is just this so simple, its pretty weak, this pokemon just gets bigger, its colors are gaudy and it just doesnt look natural, it shouldn't Evolve, ugh why didn't this evolve, this pokemon is trying too hard" Also Lockstin "This pokemon is just this so simple, it's amazing, oh my gosh i love that its evolves and doesn't change, wow i love its super bright unnatural colors"
Pokemon opinions are weirdly contextual in how said ideas are executed, for example i love Honedge but i think Aegislash is a huge downgrade despite both of them being "Ghost with Ribbons poltergeists a Sword"
@@Artista_Frustrado oh I completely understand, it's absolutely founded upon personal preference and weirdly intricate subconscious underlying thoughts and feelings It's always funny to see folks getting their wires crossed and contradicting their own thoughts
- If it helps with Meowscarada, one of the most classic stage magic props is a bouquet of flowers. Y'know, that trick where they make the bouquet appear out of nowhere? Just like in the Flower Trick move? - Oh! I only just noticed that Iron Jugulis's entire upper head is an LED screen, not just its eyes! So that's why it looked much brighter than the blue on its body. - There's a lot of speculation that the Paradox Pokemon don't even come from distant eras, but are rather imaginative constructs of...whatever powers Area Zero. That could be a small part of why they're all strictly just dinosaurs and robots. What do you think?
I 100 percent agree with you. There's clearly something going on with the third legendary. If the theories turn out to be true, it seems to be one of the only Pokémon besides Arceus that can actually create other Pokémon- though it can only create them based on the imaginations of others... I like the concept of Paradox Pokémon, and the execution on both sides seems pretty hit-and miss. Scream Tail and Flutter Mane are rather disappointing design-wise, imo. On the future side, Iron Jugulis leaves a good amount to be desired in terms of design- because Iron Hands already took the floating limbs idea.
Honestly there isn't a single Pokémon this gen I actively dislike, like even the ones I'm not a fan of have something to them I enjoy. when it to the paradox forms I will say I vastly prefer scarlets, but seeing the animations of violets greatly increases my enjoyment of them, like the fact that when they sleep they turn off and how iron treads rolls with its body staying upright, and speaking of iron treads and great tusk, I don't think they could have chosen a better Pokémon than Doniphan, the tyre mammoth Pokémon, to have as the one you see first in both versions, with the original being a mixture between something old and something new to begin with. Also fun thing I noticed with the treasures of ruin Pokémon is that the seals that hold them are all coloured as the types they each are weak too (poison, water, grass, and either fire or fighting, I lean to fighting cause its more orange than red) , I like to think its due to some old form of typed tera crystals built into the shrines.

I actually love Baxcalibur, as a Paleo nerd, as it takes after a lesser known, but really cool Theropod, the Concavenator. And it works in a fun Godzilla reference with its signature move, I just love it so much.
As a paleonerd I was honestly disappointed with Baxcaliber and it's prey evos. Since Spinosaurus is my all time fave dinosaur the designs were very disappointing and they don't look good imo
I don't know if this is a hot take or super cold, I'm very satisfied with the Fuecoco line. Skeledirge's design reminds me of your fakemon snake (Apart from the breaking of zodiac motief)
From what I have seen, Skeledirge is the most popular final Evo. When I first saw Skeledirge, I didn't know what to think, but after using it's one of my favorite starters, I love the line that much. I do think the fire on it doesn't look great though, I don't see clown hair, it just looks unfinished to me.
I'm honestly surprised that lockstin didn't like skeledirge. The first truly "monstery" starter since, like, gen 5 (as in I can't see someone turning it into a fursuit without heavy modification to the design) and it's just not his jam I guess. Never thought of the fire as hair, I always thought it was billowing from the mouth like with mega charizard x while also acting as a used up, broken nest for the fire bird, which I also love. The wombo combo of showing symbiosis between crocs and birds, while also giving skeledirge a mic for their dirges, AND giving us an example of pokemon that consist of two seperate individuals without it being literally just two of the same creatures like tandemaus or diglett?! 👌 PLUS the reference to land crocodilimorphs like kaprosuchus by giving it a rounded tail rather than a paddled one? Perfect way to do a hydrophobic crocodile. My only real complaint with skeledirge is why does the chest (and fire for that matter of fact ) have such a sharp angle to it? Really would've preferred that to be smoothed out, makes him look a little blocky. Oh well, I guess I just wanted to gush over skeledirge for a bit. If you don't like them that's your prerogative lockstin.
See, Im totally with your opinion on Skeledirge in a sense. Its concept alone is so much cooler and well thought out than a lot of other Pokemon. And I love it for the reason we didn’t just get another bipedal, humanoid fire type too. I mean just being a flaming crocodile is badass enough on its own. Im just not huge on the design at all. I think the purple and yellow on its head clashes with the black and white down its body. That angle you mentioned to, I don’t know why it’s there… I don’t know, I wish I loved it more ;-; still a creative design nonetheless!
The tail is also shaped like a saxophone, its head looks like a sugar skull from dia de los muertos, the patterns on its snout both allude to the skulls of dia de los muertos and also a glockenspiel or xylophone, the hair is the color and shape of marigolds, which are the flowers of the dead, the body resembles trencadís sculptures while the color makes it look like a tuxedo, giving it an opera singer look. It's such an ingenious design, but I guess hurr durr cat with yoyo is better.
I personally adore the tinkaton and baxcalibur lines, like he's goes from a little ugly but cute snow gremlin into a dinosaurs, and I especially like how baxcalibur has the one spine plate to reference the sword in the stone. Honestly think it's a really good mon and a cool typing, plus it's signature ability is cool to use with a stall team in competitive
Koraidon quickly jumped to my second favourite legendary Pokémon after Rayquaza, it’s just perfect in my opinion. I actually like Baxcalibur, it’s cry is very cool and it’s a dang good battler with its signature move resembling a move that one of the original Godzillas used where it does a flying jump kick while gliding on its tail albeit upside-down and backwards, it’s weird but kind of cool
I loved Iron Valiant so much; I started with Scarlet, but got one in a wonder trade very early, which was perfect because I'd been using Gallade for False Swipe and Hypnosis, and Gallade was the only non-gen 9 pokemon on my team. Being able to swap him out with basically the exact same thing, but now it's gen 9, actually magnified my overall enjoyment of the game.
Flamigo is very fun, but I kinda wish it came in a few different colors to reference how the pink comes from the diet and because there’s three tatsugiri so perhaps that would affect it
36:59 When catching it, I just imagined "Evil" Koraidon just dashing right through Skeledirge back and forth and exhausting itself, like Flats punching Spongebob.
• All of the problems you had with Skeledirge sounded more like you hated the 3D model and not the actual Pokemon, the art is so much better • Pawmo has different hair, a different tail, larger size, different color, fully-functioning electric sacs, more developed muscles that let it stand upright and unlock its nascent Fighting type, and an extra finger. Those are the differences, I get that they're similar but they're supposed to be. The line is growing up, and it's a great example of how sometimes you have to look closely to tell that something is a different species, and in this case Pawmo's differences from Pawmi definitely require it to be a different species. Just like Finizen and Palafin. If anything, its Pawmi that is the redundant one, cuz it's an underdeveloped Pawmo and the one that would be cut if they were cutting any of them. Pawmo is my favorite one but I love the whole line and their subtle differences. The game would not benefit at all if any of them were cut. There would just be less to enjoy. • I'm glad you got the joke with Dudunsparce, but you're wrong to say we'd be better off without a Dunsparce evo. Dudunsparce absolutely needed to happen. People needed to learn once and for all that it's not a dragon, it's a silly yokai and it's going to stay that way. And the fact that it is segmented now really drives home its tsuchinoko and nozuchi inspirations, and adds the punchline to the joke Dunsparce already was. Its segments managed to complete its thematic fantasy while staying true to its inspirations AND still managing to make it more serpentine for us snake lovers out there. Dudunsparce is an 11/10, one of the best cross-gen evos we've had, because they perfectly understood the assignment. • Spidops is a Tsuchigumo
i like skeledirge too but i tried to use a pawmo but once i finally got it fully evolved i just got rid of it for the electric bird cuz i didn’t think it was cool at all
@@bakes1324 Nah, the art is always better, with the exceptions of the Magnemite line and the future Paradoxes, and that's only because of the improved metallic textures introduced this generation
10:30 there was a fake leak going around saying the name for the last smolliv Evo was idolliv and I’m still so sad we didn’t get that instead. Smollive turning into a little like pop idol Pokémon wouldve been so cute
thinking about roaring moon being similar to Mega Salamance and how other Mega Evolutions might resemble how those pokemon looked and/or acted like in the distant past. Could be a cool concept to see in practice. I do wonder how Aerodactyl would actually look in its original form in that context.
Rabsca's Violet entry says there's a sleeping baby in the ball. I love Ceruledge's design and the fact that as a follow Pokemon it's the only one I've used that can keep up with you on the ride Pokemon, plus as you walk around with it out and stop it'll zip behind you and will do so again when you turn around like it's watching your back
A few things: You can move the camera in-battle with the right thumb stick, so hopefully that will get it Tinkaton's hammer out of your face. The symbols on Lokix's knees, I think, are supposed to suggest bolts or hinges, given how its lower legs fold into the upper legs when not in use. I do think it's supposed to be a mix of organic and inorganic elements. I also just noticed that the underside of Rellor's belly is shaped like poop. Bombirdier is probably only even in the game because it's based on a scrapped beta design from Gen 2.
Too bad you didn't enjoy Skeledirge very much because I absolutely loved it. I'll admit it's a bit of a crowded design and the hair fire looks goofy but it's such a clever and well thought concept put into a really cool looking and unique Pokémon. My personal favorite Starter in this Gen.
Actually Bombirdier makes a lot of sense in Paldea, we have a lot of them in Spain. Also it appears to have similar features to a crane, so maybe its actually a combination of both animals.
They decided against making speculative evolutions for Violet Paradoxes after realizing they'd just end with a variety of Crabs.

Idk if it's just me, but the paradox pokemon names sound like the pokemon categories, like "Blah Blah the Great Tusk Pokémon" or "Blah Blah the Iron Moth Pokémon"
Yeah i think that’s the point lol, it’s names taken from a scientific book.
They're the same as the UB codenames, except they didn't come up with real ones.
Yeah that's how I see them, more like titles. Some people are upset about that but I'm glad because it allows me to just continue referring to them as and thinking of them as the species they are based on. I've wanted a Jigglypuff, Magneton, and Misdreavus that don't evolve for a really long time
@@veledwin1 [sad wigglytuff, magnezone, and mismagius noises]
My guess is that their actual names are supposed to be the same as their original forms - Iron Treads and Great Tusk is just Donphan but they are different enough to need different classification.
Guys, go look at Iron Treads Sleeping (yeah despite being "robots" the Iron Pokemon sleep and eat), it rocks itself back and forth in its Tread! The seemingly robotic pokemon performs an action instinctive to organic life: seeking comfort. They aren't robots, THEY'RE CYBORGS UNDER A MECHANICAL EXOSKELETON!
Just an FYI, I think you mean Cryptids, not cryptics.

Neat insta powerful Stored Powers though~

Bombirdier is in this region mainly because of two reasons: cranes are very very typical and famous here in Spain, they're even symbolic animals on some places (like Extremadura); and because one of its inspirations, if not the main one, is the italian Fiat BR.20 Cicogna ("crane" in italian), a medium bomber plane used mainly and for the first time in the Spanish Civil War. Blandest evolution line, and its the first time a pika clone evolves c'mon bruh...
Same, I was so disappointed. At least they have a good shiny.
The one thing that I can't, with everything that just feels particularly off in these games, for the life of me, understand is...why Pawmo is noticeably lighter than Pawmi
Pawmott instantly reverts it back to Pawmi shade, so...did they just do that to differentiate Pawmo and Pawmi? Because if that was needed to tell the difference, that's how you can *tell it's a problem* !
I kinda wish Baxcalibur went more for a Spinosaurus type look instead of a repeat of Godzilla since Tyranitar already takes that role and executes it better imo. It kinda seemed like that's what they were going for at first with Arctibax but then inexplicably changed. Or if they'd just went for another draconic kaiju in the first place..
My personal take is that Ttar is a more classic take on Godzilla, whereas Baxcaliber looks more like the more modern Western interpretations of the character
Honestly, it makes me think of Scovillain in a way
A lot of what it has going for it is the new thing it introduced (the former being an ice type Pseudo-Legend, the latter being a fire/grass) type being most of what's going for it, while the design just ends up looking...off, and a bit goofy

The future paradox name are like scp name. I mean scp 682, scp 999, iron bundle, iron moth both has scp and iron in their name
I like to imagine scream tail literally screams as it's version of singing, this was an attempt to become friends with things like the present jigglypuff would, but obviously in its time, it'd either prompt something to fight it or run in terror.

I really don’t understand why frigibax is generally disliked. The moment I saw it, it was love at first sight. It’s so cute and timid looking and then it tries to be tough and it’s adorable, and it also has a really unique and cool looking design. Other than Cyndaquil, no other Pokémon has personally appealed to me as much, that’s how much I adore it, which is why it’s so funny that no one else really does 😅
Also, on an unrelated note, Klawf’s cry sounds like a dying cow and I’ve never been more confused.
I think frigibax is kinda adorable, in a "so uncute it loops right back into being cute again" sort of way.
Honestly, I fell in love with it cause of its big old shnoze and the way it ran around 😂 it's so funny and weird, I love it!!
Koraidon has in my opinion the better design and animation. He gives off Toothless vibes.
I can't bring myself to finish Scarlet because I dislike Koraidon so much. It's literally like a motorycle grew back legs and stood up to stomp around like it had BDE. Miraidon is a hoverbike and a good boi and a snoring robot is the most precious thing ever.
I like both, but K is my favorite and I just love how M is just a super derpy and hungry, future dragon robot thing.
I could've sworn that Miraidon has a metal tongue.

Fun Fact: Both Roaring Moon AND Iron Valiant are based off/implement the Mega Evolution designs of Salamence and Gallade, which fits in nicely with them having the highest BST of all the Paradox Pokemon.
Iron Jugulis is literally a Pokémon rumble model
I personally love all the 4 legendaries because of the fact that their actual forms are the treasures themselves. Their bodies are just them using their control of their respective element/type to create a vessel
Same!! Like, it’s like Excalibur, but the stone became a monster and fights you, it’s so rad,

Def that’s what it’s based on
I first wasn't quite sure what to think of Palafin Hero Form.
Ikr I love it so much, I like to think it was made to be a superhero counterpart to the supervillain malamar
@@greatkai2820 and the fact they introduced Scovillain in the same generation as Palafin
Calling it the terminator is pretty fitting considering it's reputation in competitive.
Yeah for sure. The design is pretty weird upon first look, but it easily becomes one of the most memorable Pokémon in the game due to its concept, gimmick, insane stats and awesome animations.
Still not the first dolphin pokemon
Every time Glimmora comes up I feel like I'm the only person who's heard of cave flowers. The gypsum formations called oulopholites look like crystal flowers growing out of the stone in some caves. The anthodites (literally "flower stone") refer to a couple other formations that look like flowers on cave walls
“Blaziken’s Bottom” is the greatest descriptor of Quaquaval ever made
Lockstin: Complains about the stork Pokemon for being "just a stork".
It took me a second to get it too, but there's a concept there
It's no different then an oddish who also burrow under the ground
It's a cool concept, I just hate how Greavard's candles look like Litwick. Even just making the dog body black or grey would've made it look less like it had a tiny Litwick on its head

I definitely get the idea of what Dudunsparce is supposed to be (An underwhelming looking evolution to an underwhelming Pokemon) but I’d like to imagine that if it was Dragon type like what many fan evolutions of Dunsparce have done, Dudunsparce would’ve gotten some big wings.
I’m just happy we got a fully quadrupedal fire starter in Skeledirge.

Dondozo looks like a wiscash evo

Sounds like a great idea for an Octillery evo since its based on a tank originally
Exactly. More kaiju Pokémon are always welcome!

I agree. I don’t like it. But I agree. All future Pokémon are essentially genesect. Like they were made from the Pokémon.
You mean like how Skynet's Terminators are all technically mass-produced?
@@MrAuthor3DS Ya kind of like that, but I'm assuming for a general market of Pokémon trainers. And for a specific malicious purpose.

Now that i know this im gonna name my lokix denji hehehehe
More Kamen Rider than Power Rangers/Super Sentai, but yeah.
The Future Paradox Pokémon names give me the feel of someone who’s really straightforward and scientific minded sorta like Turo is portrayed
Not really the fault of eyelids, considering it has LED eyes, it can simulate that (and plenty more).
I think miraidon doesn't show its tongue because miraidon and koraidon suppose to represent cat and dog personality
Koraidon show tounge when happy like dog playfull like dog and all
Miraidon is like a cat smug and intelligent but still love you and play with you
Edit:even miraidon cry sound like cat purring

That said, I love the design of Iron Valient. I think it would be cool to get a third Kirlia Evo that combines Gardevoir and Gallade like that, Fairy/Fighting type and all.
I think that all the future paradoxes being ambiguous in typing made the final battle figuring out their typings really fun. They definitely need more than just iron in their games though

My only problem with Revaroom is that it levitates. It has wheels, it should use them

When catching it, I just imagined "Evil" Koraidon just dashing right through Skeledirge back and forth and exhausting itself, like Flats punching Spongebob.
The one comment i have about this gen: Tinkaton and it's pre-evolution feels just like a legally distinct Amy Rose to me...
I named mine Piko. Can confirm, has great relations to the hedgehog.
• All of the problems you had with Skeledirge sounded more like you hated the 3D model and not the actual Pokemon, the art is so much better
• Pawmo has different hair, a different tail, larger size, different color, fully-functioning electric sacs, more developed muscles that let it stand upright and unlock its nascent Fighting type, and an extra finger.

Rabsca's Violet entry says there's a sleeping baby in the ball. I love Ceruledge's design and the fact that as a follow Pokemon it's the only one I've used that can keep up with you on the ride Pokemon, plus as you walk around with it out and stop it'll zip behind you and will do so again when you turn around like it's watching your back
A few things:
You can move the camera in-battle with the right thumb stick, so hopefully that will get it Tinkaton's hammer out of your face.
I think skeledirge’s hair fire is supposed to look like bouquets of marigolds since those are important for Dia de los muertos.
Also it's not hair, they're coming out of its mouth
It also looks like pyrotechnics on a stage (the white part of the face is the stage, bird is the singer)
