  • The DJI Mavic Air 2 is an excellent drone for anyone who travels and wants to film great quality footage from the air. This small foldable drone films great 4k video and takes great 48mp photos. It has fantastic flight time too coming in at about 30 minutes per battery. I think this might be the perfect first drone for most people and it is definitely a solid upgrade from the Mavic Air or the original Mavic Pro. There is one reason I am not keeping mine...

The PRICE! ...YAHOOOOOOOOOOO 🕺🏼🕺🏼 all that goodness and it's almost half the price of the M2P.. and better at some things the M2P does, like you said.. I also have them both so I can confir and agree...👍👍I myself sir, am keeping! Lol. In fact, I bought 2! Lol. Just in case! Lol.. You never know?...... Lol.... thx buddy for another AWESOME VIDEO..

    Great vid, I've had 5 dji drones over the last few years and this is hands down my favourite. I film a lot of wake boarding and lock on subject then just fly the drone and it keeps the boarder in the frame and in 4k60 I've had great results. For youtube vids I think its a no-brainer. As you said for some client work you may need that 10bit of the m2p.

    Very informative thanks Jake! Quick question, if I plan on uploading the videos I capture from a drone like this to youtube, do I have to register it with the FAA as "Commercial" and take the knowledge test, or can I just register it as "Recreational"?

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you use the footage to build or further a business in anyway you’ll need to register and get a part 107 license. I’d highly recommend getting one either way. It’s not too difficult and it opens a lot of opportunities to fly areas you otherwise couldn’t.

    Hey Jake,
    I am looking to purchase my first drone for general photography and videos but not sure which one would be best.
    I'm based in the UK so the Skydio2 isn't an option and I'm going to be travelling through Europe so want to make the most of the experience......DJI obviously have a lot to choose from and they all have they're pros and cons so any pointers would be helpful, many thanks

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mavic Air 2 is a good option but if you want higher quality photos then also consider the Mavic 2 pro. It has a higher quality sensor and camera especially when it comes to photos. Another option is the Parrot Anafi for a small compact portable drone that does well at video and photo but not quite as good as the DJI Mavic Air 2. Cheers!

    Hi Jake! I noticed in the settings that you were filming in H.265. Just wondering your opinion on the quality differential of filming in H.264. Is there really much difference? • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There isn't really enough difference once the video goes on TH-cam (or other social media) to make it worth it IMO. Plus unless you have a fairly powerful editing computer h.265 takes more processing power to work with. There is def a difference if you need to give the highest quality footage to a client though. Thanks for the kind words! Cheers

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just stick with 264 if 265 is giving you trouble. 265 does take quite a bit more computing power to process than 264 does but in the end on TH-cam and social media you won't see. a difference

    • @muzikmon2267
      @muzikmon2267 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      stick with 264 because 265 is not compatible with a lot of different video programs and you can't even watch the video on your phone or even in your computer..
      Working with 265 right nowfinding everything that works good and to even upload an online is a pain in the ass..
      I was having so many issues and I didn't realize I had it on to 265!!
      Wooden play on my phone, wouldn't play on my computer, problems watching it up loading it onto social media..
      People are not up-to-date with 265 yet not even close..
      What's the point in using 265 if nobody can watch your video LOL..
      I can't tell you how many people have had problems with 265 it's just not ready. And the difference is minor..
      I mean nobody can't even tell the difference between 1080P and 4k on social media as it is right now!!
      To most people 1080p is perfect still and it uses a lot less data, less buffering, less issues..
      The whole world has not even adapted 4K yet.. I mean Samsung an apple still don't even offer 4K screens on phones that should tell you everything you need to know on what matters and what doesn't!!
      The default setting on Apple and Samsung phones is 1080p for a video..
      And when they did a b comparisons with all the DJI drones using 4K and 1080p nobody can tell the difference online. it's the anal people that forced the difference and look for the difference and try to show you the difference is when it makes a difference but nobody cares..
      Not even the NFL uses 4K yet not even billion dollar companies..
      It's kind of like the whole MP3/WAV thing. As an audio file I can tell you WAV files sound much better!! BUT EVERYBODY ADOPTED MP3 BECAUSE OF THE SMALLER SIZE, EASY TO TRANSFER, LESS ISSUES FOR STREAMING.. LESS DATA..
      SAME THING WITH 1080P LIKE MP3S..
      IF SOMETHING IS GOOD ENOUGH THEY DON'T CARE..
      IT ONLY CARES TO THE CRAZY PEOPLE WHO THINK IT MATTERS LOL
      BUT I HATE TO TELL YOU ALL YOUR IT'S FOR A REALLY NOTHING.. THE PEOPLE WHO WATCH YOUR VIDEOS DON'T NOTICE SORRY!!
      THAT'S A FACT NOT OPINION!!
      ;)

    Awesome informative video thanks! Hope this doesn’t sound dumb, but I’m super curious how you handled your drone while you kayaked? I don’t have the drone yet but I’m interested in if there’s an auto home button or something that can help it land back on a moving kayak? Any info is appreciated cheers!

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not dumb at all!! It took me a few tries to get it down. first generally you want to be careful how much wind there is since it will move you around a lot in the kayak. Second make sure you are comfortable with hand launching and hand catching. Practice that when you are on solid ground. from there it's a matter of launching the drone by hand while you are floating, capturing the videos you want and then fly the drone back to you (where ever you are at the time) and then the trickiest part is line up the drone and get it fairly low and close to you so you can hand catch it as you land it. It's best to also practice this part near shore so you can always land on the shore if things aren't going well in the kayak lol. I hope that helps! Cheers

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is from a stable flight standpoint. The Mavic 2 and Air 2 hold their position like they are on a tripod. From a photo standpoint they are pretty much on par with the phantom 4 pro but on the video front the Phantom 4 pro still has the better 4k video quality. If you need more portability but want to stay with similar or better quality than the P4P then I would wait for the Mavic 3 coming later this year or early next. Cheers

    @HR-wd6cw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not sure if I'd say FIRST drone (the Mini might be better as it's about 1/2 the price), Just keep in mind that if you do sell your drone, as of this writing you are NOT able to wipe the flight logs from the drone. This feature was removed in the latest version of DJI Assistant (which older versions cannot be used, as some people suggest, since they won't detect an Air 2). Just something to think about as this data does have GPS data about where the drone has been flown. You can clear the logs off your smart device, but not the drone (and i found this was not tied to your DJI account but rather is stored on the drone itself).,

    Great review Jake. Just discovered your channel. Definitely thinking about getting one of these Air 2's. I have had drones for a few years, both fixed wing and multi-rotor so not too much of a beginner but still very much to learn about photography. I have noticed ever since I started using what I will call a Photography Drone that I can barely see screens in the bright sunlight. I have modified a pair of cheap VR goggles (the type made to hold a phone) to solve this problem. I would like to use these goggles to fly the mavic air 2, so i have a couple of questions, if you don't mind:
    1. One method of using my goggles is with an extended USB x lightning cord ( I have apple phone) . Will I still be able to do this?
    2. I also use sometimes a "Dongle" that came with my drone to allow wireless connection between controller and phone. Does the Air 2 come with one, or does DJI sell one that will work, that you know of? (I actually prefer this method as no pesky wire hanging from the headset) .
    3. If these methods will not work with the Air 2, Do the DJI goggles work with Air 2? Haven't priced DJI goggles ,gulp.
    4. One failing of my present drone (which has a really good 3 axis gimbal) is that sometimes horizon will be tilted a little. I have also noticed this in another Air 2 video I was watching. Ever noticed this problem much? Thank you for any guidance ? Just on my lunch hour, I'll be checking out more of your videos when I get back home!! Stay safe!

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey Larry! I believe yo would be able to extend your phone cord without issue however the Air 2 uses the DJI fly app which is different from the Go4 app so it may not work the same with your VR glasses. the Air 2 does not come with a wireless dongle and I am not sure how it would work with one... At this time the Mavic Air 2 is also not compatible with any of the DJI goggles (which is really unfortunate). I have not had any tilting horizon issues with mine (or my mavic 2 pro) however I have seen where a few other people have but it seems to be pretty limited and usually a gimbal calibration fixed it. It seems to happen more on rapid sideways movement like panning or strafing shots. For me I haven't had any issues though

    I would like to ask is the DJI Fly app needs higher requirement than DJI Go App? I got the MA2 yesterday and try to fly it and it got very lag video in my phone when I record the video, I am using iPhone 6, it never happen when I using Mavic Pro

    Great video 👍 If the Air 2 does not have 10 bit color, what bit color does the Air 2 have? I'm thinking of getting the Air 2 or the pro. Thanks

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has 8bit color which is fine if you don't plan on doing extensive color grading in post

      @@JakeSloan Thanks Jake, I want to color grade but not sure if I will need the extra.

    When you say Mavic Pro in this video are you referring to the first Mavic or to the Mavic Pro 2? Thanks for the great content!

    Couple of questions for dji drones owners: why would you use 30 fps if you have the options to use 60? And is the obstecale avoid thing active always? Is the drone always avoid obstecals in regular mode or is the drone avoid obstecals only while its following you ? Thanks

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it can be always active if you want it to be

    I am still learning droning with mavic mini - I flew a few sub $200 drones my friends owned so I wanted to get into flying - but decided to pull the trigger on the mini (under 250g means no licence in Canada) - I am absolutely blown away but what that little thing can do. Its my first drone but it doesn't feel like a cheap thing - it's a monster for the price - hoping to upgrade to mavic air 2 later on .

      The Mavic Mini is a really capable drone! Great first starting point especially with the licensing requirements in Canada. Enjoy it and capture some great stuff!! Cheers

    Hi mate
    Looking at buying a dji mavic air 2. What's the max distance you can fly from the controller And Do You Have To stay In Line Of Sight.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must stay in line of sight but you can fly quite far much farther than you can see

    Thanks for another great review .Even though these higher end drones are out of my price range its good to understand the pros and cons. I think I'm sold on your review of the mini 2. Thats more my range and I dont have a drone pilot license to fly these heavier ones. I can see why you need them when clients are paying for your video. Keep up the great reviews

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot Peter! The mini 2 is a fantastic capable drone for most uses for sure and I think it's probably the best drone for most people to buy if they aren't working commercially. Cheers!!

      Jake i just watched another TH-cam mini2 guy and he said the micro sd card should be a u3 rating for 4k. My wingsland s6 does give me a 4k option in video but I've only ever had u1 rated cards He said he got a sd card fail warning because he used a u1 card from his mini 1 by mistake. Do you think a u3 card in my s6 would be better.? It does record on my u1 rated card but I have no comparison
