Just got my M3P and was experimenting with Spotlight mode, but was clearly not using this feature properly. And then, I saw your video on Spotlight, where you demonstrated how to use it PERFECTLY! This is how all demo videos should be done. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, you gotta remember that these are very much considered a nuisance for some people. Imaging going for a sail for a bit of peace and quiet, and having a damned drone hover over you. Good info, but perhaps consider others when doing a demonstration.

@@dhmi3388 It's great that you are more tolerant (but you probably also own a drone? which is why you would be more accepting of them), but we absolutely should be thinking more about others. Drones aren't just a nuisance, they also have legalities surrounding them that don't need more attention brought to them, especially if sometimes we colour too close to the lines.

I wish it would let you track other drones. Anybody have any luck doing that? Whenever I try, it says it doesn’t recognize the object. Doesn’t matter how close I get to it. Okay, recently the DJI Mini 2, but I'm definitely eying the Maverick Air 2 for next year. This is the second video I’ve seen about the Maverick, and it seems a lot more advanced. Given that the Maverick has the Spotlight feature, I was wondering why hasn't DJI created a way to have the drone automatically fly back using the map route, instead of the user having to manually guide it back. Are there any drones that can do that? I know there's RTH, but it would be neat to have the drone fly back using the same route to get a destination.
Manually fly it back and you can make it go wherever you like. The mavic line has some good drones. The mini 2, air 2 are great and more affordable as well.

I've still got the Mavic Pro but it has spotlight and tripod modes which are similar. I've been practicing speeding through tight spaces in trees lately. DJI drones are amazing 👏

Depends on how you wanna use it. As point of interest you still have to manually fly it. If tracking behind as long as it’s not to difficult a path it will follow.

Hi Sean.. i am sure my mavic air 2 is too fast in tripod mode. Do you agree that the drone does not go at a crawl speed in that mode. I find it harder to capture cinematic shots. Do you know of a setting that brings the speed down, or will it be a firmware update issue. I noticed this on my first flight out the box, and the issue remains to this day. Thanks.
yes, it does seem a tad fast on the yaw. i agree. we can slow it down in the fly app though. slow the yaw and slow the gimbal up down pitch and that will help!
@@SeanOzz yeah. they say the forward speed should be around 4/5 mph. mine sure go much faster than that. like in normal mode speed. i got the yaw to a slow speed. the gimbal is no problem., but i need to get my forward speed down. I owned a mavic pro 2, and the tripod mode on that was real slow. thanks for the reply.

Had no (zero) idea MA2 had any zoom function. I use the spotlight with my Frisbee dogs, but they are too small to lock onto. I will be looking into the zoom today. TY.
@@SeanOzz It took a while for me to figure out exactly which settings to turn on in order to activate the spotlight feature. But after going through the menu, I found where you turn on the feature and then began to experiment with how to use it. Seems to work well. Thanks for this. This is exactly the shot I want to reproduce but with a faster moving boat (powerboat). However the weather has been bad enough (wind) for some weeks now on days when I could fly/go out in the boat so I have not been able to try apart from once. I have not found a video yet that explains "stick position" in spotlight mode. When I tried it, I could not get it right. Starting behind the boat, I would enter spotlight and start to circle around, at this point I have "forward" stick on to keep up with the boat. As I came around alongside and started to go in front of the boat I would end up going over the top of the boat rather than staying at the same horizontal distance. This is because I could not cope with the "control" reversal as the drone transitions to the front (ie. from going "forward" to follow the boat it has to transition to going "backward" to maintain the distance in front of the boat. I realise professional stick jockeys can do all this manually but I want to get the system to help me as much as it can. So its must be either spotlight or POI mode I guess but could someone explain where the control sticks move to achieve this? Its a powerboat at wakeboarding speed, about 20mph.

New to the channel, now subscribed. Brilliant tips there thank you. I have had the Mavic air 2 for one day lol, and only used it once. Major problems viewing the video on my laptop!! I am running windows 10 and have read that its not compatible with MP4 so I switched the video to Normal recording and still couldn't watch the video. Very frustrating. It takes the fun out of it a bit when you experience problems at the very start. Have you made a video on how to download the files, or could you recommend a programme to use. I dont really want to subscribe to a monthly payment but I dont mind paying a bit of money for the right programme. Thanks again :)

I have the mavic air 2 but it doesn't have the same zoom in features you have on your phone. How do I get access to that? Or is that a feature that they did aware with recently?
I just like to know how fast it rides compared to the original and I also like to know how do you put a tracker on it like a GPS so then if you wish to lose it you can find it and is it waterproof if it falls in the water would you be able to retrieve it it's a lot of things out there that we don't know about well I don't know about before I can purchase one for myself I bought a few of the Chinese version of it and I lost one of them already other than that could you give me some insight

Yeah, I have a trip tomorrow and will try it as well. But I doubt it will work... too much movement and struggle for the gimbal to keep up... if it works though, action scenes would be just epic. Will keep you updated as well 💪🏼

That looks amazing . I haven't try that feature yet. The part of Mexico where I'm living is not interesting but with these flying modes it's easy to make it look great, In HDR 😱
I know the spotlight mode on the mavic 2 series does not work the same... Your sticks end up giving your different results... Would you make a video explaining that please?
@@SeanOzz I have stopped using spotlight mode on my m2p because it does not allow me to turn around the subject... Essentially, moving the drone sideways makes it go a different direction than what I want...

Love the tip. Way better than POI in my opinion. Has anyone noticed the noise HDR mode introduces to the dark portions of the video? I've noticed under exposed areas of trees and woodland dancing with noise when I use HDR mode. No issues in manual.
GS1200 Cork I’ve heard that HDR can do that. I’ve found that doing some post processing to color correct the black and white in the video. Kind’a flies in the face of using HDR but it still is a good picture wit regard to the rest of the picture.

Dudeee, I just got this drone a month ago (my first one so far) and I touch it so gently that it takes me 2 minutes just to open the bag, and the propellers. Watching you doing it at 00:01/00:02 made me so mad! LOL! =D Nice video though.
I used this feature filming a small speed boat and the DJI kept up no problem. The video turned out great it just needs a better sound track not Miami Vice theme song I used 😐 Great tips the air 2 is a great bit of kit!

I agree spotlight is awesome. It allows you to focus on flying the drone without worrying about keeping the POI in center of frame. Excellent demo Sean!
I always get so nervous flying my drone far away because one time it turned red and started beeping saying it lost satellite connection or something like that- does that mean it'll stop where it's at and possibly drop? That's my worst fear lol but i've always wondered that before going further away
personal preference. i normally do 16:9 however other like 4: and crop later when editing. h.264 vs h.265 also depends on your computer editing capabilities.

Yep. Same issue I had in the video. Use that 2x or 4x zoom and it should lock on.

When you pass over the object using de spotlight mode, the front/back control invert, right?
yes, kinda. pushing forward is always forward. even if drone is sideways. i am working on a more detailed video. stay tuned.

Sailboats are slow moving. Would it spotlight a speedboat as well?
The hard part is getting it to lock on when already moving fast. If at a stand still when u lock on and in sports mode it could work.

Full auto. It does a great job. Hdr mode also.

Stock auto. No ND filters. Hdr video works great on sunny days. Be sure to try that setting.

You can achieve this in sports mode as well. Im.working on a more detailed version of this video showing the stick movements.

Is it only the gimbal moving or the drone itself rotate as well on it's own?
You control the drone height and distance. The drone will rotate on its own and gimbal will go up and down on its own to keep subject in view.

Are u on a mac or pc? I do mac.

Not sure on a pc. I personally bring my SD card into to computer and copy the files.

I have the mavic air 2 but it doesn't have the same zoom in features you have on your phone. How do I get access to that? Or is that a feature that they did aware with recently?

I think u need to be in 1080 if I recall.

I just like to know how fast it rides compared to the original and I also like to know how do you put a tracker on it like a GPS so then if you wish to lose it you can find it and is it waterproof if it falls in the water would you be able to retrieve it it's a lot of things out there that we don't know about well I don't know about before I can purchase one for myself I bought a few of the Chinese version of it and I lost one of them already other than that could you give me some insight

Yeah, I have a trip tomorrow and will try it as well. But I doubt it will work... too much movement and struggle for the gimbal to keep up... if it works though, action scenes would be just epic. Will keep you updated as well 💪🏼

Excellent, Sean - thanks for this! Am I right in assuming, that I can still control the height of the MA2 in Spotlight mode (left stick, up/down) - as long as I don’t try to rotate the drone (left stick, left/right)? Guess you’d be fighting the drone in that case??? Thanks again, awesome!😀👍
yes, you should be able to go up and down as well.
Hey, I have the Mavic Air 2 but I can’t find the active tracking mode on the DJI App. Do I have the same app you have? I don’t see spotlight or the other mode. Can you help?
Drag your finger over the subject to draw a box and it pops up

That happens for me also if I hold finger too long before dragging

That looks amazing . I haven't try that feature yet. The part of Mexico where I'm living is not interesting but with these flying modes it's easy to make it look great, In HDR 😱

I know the spotlight mode on the mavic 2 series does not work the same... Your sticks end up giving your different results... Would you make a video explaining that please?
Yes. I will have to find something to track as they are pulling boats from the lake before it freezes.
@@SeanOzz I have stopped using spotlight mode on my m2p because it does not allow me to turn around the subject... Essentially, moving the drone sideways makes it go a different direction than what I want...
Strange. My zoom has not had that issue. Maybe an update changed it. I'll check for updates and see if I can get it worked back out.

There are a couple ways or were. Ill break it out when the weather clears up and see if it changed.

No. The mini and mini2 do not. Most others have a form of it.

Love the tip. Way better than POI in my opinion. Has anyone noticed the noise HDR mode introduces to the dark portions of the video? I've noticed under exposed areas of trees and woodland dancing with noise when I use HDR mode. No issues in manual.
HDR on any platform can bring in noise in darker areas. these smaller sensors are notorious for this.
GS1200 Cork I’ve heard that HDR can do that. I’ve found that doing some post processing to color correct the black and white in the video. Kind’a flies in the face of using HDR but it still is a good picture wit regard to the rest of the picture.
What happened with the spotlight? There is no more D-log on spotlight.

Mavic Air 2 can zoom in on shots? I didn't think you could do that with this drone without actually moving closer?
they added a digital zoom in an update.

Dudeee, I just got this drone a month ago (my first one so far) and I touch it so gently that it takes me 2 minutes just to open the bag, and the propellers.

I touched my 1st one like it was made of glass.
I used this feature filming a small speed boat and the DJI kept up no problem. The video turned out great it just needs a better sound track not Miami Vice theme song I used 😐

I always get so nervous flying my drone far away because one time it turned red and started beeping saying it lost satellite connection or something like that- does that mean it'll stop where it's at and possibly drop? That's my worst fear lol but i've always wondered that before going further away
with dji drones they are suppose to stop and RTH should kick in if you had connection when you actually took off and it set a home point 1st.

Built into most phones. Apple has one too. This is galaxy 10plus. Just the built in.

personal preference. i normally do 16:9 however other like 4: and crop later when editing. h.264 vs h.265 also depends on your computer editing capabilities.
