Ordered the game on the strength of this video. I'm really impressed with the product's quick solution to mass air combat. It achieves its goal by a tight focus on "stuff that matters" (tm). Important stuff like altitude, angle of attack on bombers, pilot quality and squadron cohesion. Ignoring or abstracting the trivia that clogs up so many other games. Ammunition tracking, hit locations, bombing runs, anti-air, landing damaged aircraft.
Purchased it for $15 because it looks cool and whether or not I ever find somebody interested to play with me, I'll at least have supported the cause. It looks like a great little operation they have going. 😎
The book is only 32 pages so probably not feasible. But perhaps when we do 2-3 other campaigns for it we can collect them in a print version? Who knows
I like the idea of larger formation air combat. Not sure how I feel about the rules yet. Maybe a scenario with fighters diving through formations to break them up. Bombers at multiple levels with enemy fighters zipping through the bombers etc. Rounds coming from above and below and the side. Hope to see any game.
Did you play Commandos computer game? Your intro really remained me of the mission opening segments. Well done. I feel like it should be "Rally" OR "XXXX" (like return or something) Seams like its waited to the U.S.B.C. too heavily ( i think the Rally really should be usable to keep fighters on the map or return fighters to the map)
Just a quick question ... at 3:13 it's stated that the US have NINE B-17 sections, as stated in the Scenario rules, but then you only play (and have VPs) for EIGHT sections - any reason for this ? Just a lack of painted planes ?? (Am sorry that my OCD is kicking in here ...).
My planes seen in the video are tumbling dice, but Pico work just as well. And yes, LITKO will have a special page with the stuff you need for the game
A fun game to watch and play. One question, the Germans attacking from 6 o'clock high might have fallen into the field of fire of the radio room gun and the much more dangerous top turret. Does altitude not affect eligible guns?
That’s factored into the relative (abstracted) rear firepower of the B-17 compared to other bombers. Because altitude is simplified into three bands, attacks always happen at the “same” altitude, even if you are diving from 6 o clock high. Our B-17s were super effective thanks to my expert dice-rolling
@Carl-MGR It made sense the bombers not really moving as the fighters dance around them. How does it work for just a B-17 formation with no friendly fighter cover?
There’s a system in the book for generating raids like that. Generally, it’s not worthwhile to play games like that out because it’s not super interesting for the bombers, but basically the bombers get to shoot when attacked and have to hope to survive until the Germans run out of fuel!

Miles has starred in tie-ins with Napoleon and Masters of the Air. What's next---Barbie?
Miles as Ryan Gosling? I like it.
We just played this and LOVED it! Had 3 games in an hour's lunch break. Excellent work.
Thanks so much! Great to hear it.
@@Carl-MGR Its excedllent - we will be having a bigger game tomorrow lunchtime at work! Can we send you some photos?
@@geofftitchener7787 Absolutely!
@@Carl-MGR Best place to send them?
What a cool follow up, my father and I just finished "Masters of the Air."
A great, fun play thru. A great time was had by all.
Very interesting game. Great work guys.
Ben looks crazed in the hat and goggles and in one scene he was laughing and bobbing up and down and it hit me "Fozzy Bear", lol. Sorry man.
I thought about the weird kid in A Christmas Story!!!!!
I'm halfway through the book "Big Week" so this is timely! (And my grandfather built P-47s!)
Ben looks like the kid from A Christmas Story…
Are there any scenarios where the bombers eventually drop bombs? What about flying through flak before fighters attack?
In the campaign system included in the rulebook the bombers fly and complete bombing missions, yes. And yep, flak is included

Yeah Mills!!
Miles is so famous he needs handlers
Miles von Richtofen was sabotaged by lack of fuel lol
Game looked fun 😊
Your videos are so cool and so much fun to watch as a wargamer!! 😊😊. What are you using for the bases? I have never seen those
Bases are from Litko!
Will there be a print on demand version through Amazon soon?

If you’re going to be at Historicon, we’ll have a Midway game with multi altitude bombers and tons of fighters. Come play!

That was a cool game are we going to see any more🤠🤠👍👍
Almost certainly! Look for tons more Fire in the Sky content in the coming weeks.
Cool 👍🛩

It’s exactly that! I have since painted a bunch more
Just about to grab the rules quick questions litco flight stands and Pico aircraft ?

@@Carl-MGRawesome thank you very much
Looks fun, rules purchased. Quick question on German fighter strength, if draw says 2 FW-190 (3) is that 2 squadrons with (3) sections?
That’s correct.
@@Carl-MGRthanks!

So it looks like the bombers are stationary as the fighters engage around them. Correct?
In these scenarios. In others, with faster-moving medium bombers, there's a movement system for them.

@@Carl-MGR Yes, I see your point. It might make a good learning scenario with the GM's running the bombers.
Great game everyone! You should have let Miles win! Are there Pacific Planes planes for Cactus Air force and Air War over New Guinea action?
There is a Pacific supplement hopefully coming this summer
What scale are the aircraft? Looks like 1/600🤔
1/600 Tumbling Dice
@@Carl-MGR Thanks, I was going to use a combination of 3d printed and Pico, but will check out Thumbling Dice.
All there is outright laughter from most of these guys. Not much real wargaming at all.
