Thank you so much for doing these videos, Alan! You're a huge influence on my guitar playing and I'm a huge fan of alt tunings, although I've never experimented with open G! This is a great lesson. Can't wait to see you guys play again!
This is cool as hell I never knew low songs were done in open g before, I learned a couple songs by ear in standard (like throw out the line) but I never noticed until after watching this that the voicings in standard tuning sound different than in open G.
Thanks so much Alan! I have picked up the Guitar after a long time and this gives me a fresh starting point and gets rid of the usual noodling I do on standard :D I love how this tuning relaxes the strings, just feels better under my fingers. Sounds kinda twangier and strummy too! I hope you do more of these. Best wishes from Finland, take care.
Sorry I’m late! I want to stray a bit from standard tuning/dadf#ad for awhile!!! I really like open tunings!! Cool guitar! The views of this video are way more compatible with my brain than a lot of other videos I’ve seen online over the years! I have trouble mentally flopping it around quickly as I see it looking down at the fret board!! (Hello from the West-strange 55744) ❤
I’ve been trying to relearn guitar, after a few years of making more electronic music, and came across this video, and I have to say that I’m blown away with how beautiful open g (and Low for that matter) sounds. I know I’m a few years late, but thank you for doing these. I’ve since searched for a diagram like the handwritten ones that Alan shows here, but they seem to be a little different that what he’s doing, and not as nice sounding. Before I watch all the videos and pause, to rewrite my own chord diagrams, wondering if anyone who reads this happens to know of a source for a diagram of these chords? It would be super helpful!
Thanks for this lesson! Really helped me pick the guitar back up.

This man should be a legend. Low’s entire catalog is jaw dropping in it’s evolution
i googled Alan Sparkhawk open g hoping to find an interview or something, was not expecting this. Very nice, thank you!
