    I think you nailed it here
    I think mojang got to a point where they were "happy" with the game and less willing to take risks, so they just kept adding stuff that doesnt really matter and doesnt threaten any of the existing systems. I think this is why we have seen an abundance of new mobs, since each one can kinda just exist, do one thing, look cute and be ignored. similar story with decorative blocks and wood variants. they dont do anything, theyre just another way to look at the same systems.

      In a sandbox (which is Minecraft) not everything has to be useful. As long as it can be used creatively. New blocks are NEVER bad for a sandbox.

      @@BrianMerlin not important. if there arent enough useful changes, then every update just becomes a builder / explorer update. when nothing interacts, every item becomes purely aesthetic or solves 1 specific problem with no thought.
      we arent acting like every single item has to have this incredible depth, sometimes a new wood variant is nice. but when thats all we get in updates, it makes the game stale.

      @@BrianMerlin The thing is that this rule applies to blocks that have different properties. For example PowderToy, you have multiple different things there, If they would add idk, sodium it would have interactions with water, oxygen and many more. But if they added Retextured spark it would change absolutely nothing because it works the same. If cherry wood could have some properties (maybe adding cherries) then it would be fine. They could make Glowstone, Lapis, Gold and Copper the 4 essentials of an Alchemy system. Maybe throw in Quartz too.
      Glowstone = Fire
      Lapis = Water
      Copper = Air
      Gold = Earth
      By alchemy I mean expanded potionmaking. Imagine if all of the random junk materials (Nautilus Shells, Sniffer Flowers, Quartz, Mushrooms) that are rare for some reason are actually alchemy items, and on a public server you could use them as currency with the local alchemist player to get them to make you a cool new potion for you to use? Maybe we could have building mobility potions, building spells that increase your reach, Redstone spells that let you activate a Redstone dust by clicking on it, etc. Maybe also a charisma potion that gives trading buffs, or a fertilizing potion that gives a slow but constant bonemeal aura? The possibilities are endless!

      Since Mojang seems so hesitant to break backward compatibility, I doubt they'd do that specifically, but they could change it to copper and keep backwards compatibility by making the powered rail use copper while giving it a new texture and making a new high speed rail use gold while giving it the old powered rail texture; no contraption would lose functionality, and no item/block would be taken out of the game. (Also, the rails really should accelerate carts based on redstone power as well since redstone power has gained functionality and importance since the powered rail was added.)
      @officersoulknight6321
      Also, that alchemy system sounds cool; a potion of spider climbing could really help for building.

    Its interesting because there are a lot of parallels between the dynamics that you are describing and with issues that I've heard discussed by the designers of Magic The Gathering. Mechanics that are introduced that only really interact with themselves are referred to as "Parasitic". Like the very controversial introduction of the "Energy" mechanic. The only cards that could interact with Energy, were cards that specifically mentioned it. So as soon as they went to design the next set they were faced with the conundrum of either forcing the energy mechanic into the new set, or dropping it entirely, leaving all of the cards with the parasitic mechanic to languish on an island alone as the rest of the game moves on.

Its absolutely depressing that I often have to spend more time managing inventories than actually playing the game. Minecraft, with every update, is moving from simplicity to complexity. This is exemplified by the addition of copper. While complexity isn't necessarily bad, Minecraft feels more bloated because of things like copper not having a lot of uses. If I come across copper when playing Minecraft, or other blocks such as deep slate/cobbled deep slate, etc. that have no actual use to me, it's disappointing. Mining used to be enjoyable and exciting because of the rarity of finding something new. Now, these extra additions that don't have many functional uses make mining tedious and disappointing, even with the addition of the Caves and Cliffs update. A major issue with updates in general and the disappointment people are feeling comes from the Caves and Cliffs update. All together, that update was one of if not the best updates to the game. The problem was the splitting into multiple parts. Players would get smaller portions of what was to come, get bored after a few months, and get the next part. I actually like the industrial mods, because all these "farms" people make in vanilla feel very unnatural and also exploit-y, not to mention they require you to either learn all the systems/mechanics of vanilla mc to the limit of their depth, or copy someone else's build, former of which is quite obtuse for the average player i'd think, so I'd rather have one machine designed for the purpose instead of figuring out how to break the game into giving you more or copy a huge build that takes up a lot of work and resources to build, and not being sure how it even works.
      That said, the machines and the results of their work do need to tie into other systems to be fun and useful, just as this video demonstrated.
      Which is why i usually play with mods that extend upon the base set by the machines of industrial mods, especially ones with good progression, like the Techguns mod, which i absolutely adore.
      (Also please someone recommend me a spiritual successor to Techguns, the mod was abandoned at 1.12.2 and i desperately need more of it)

    What if they add in copper wire? It could allow for the current to travel farther than redstone, allow currents to go up vertically, and maybe throw in some new machines with the update. Keeping its occurrence lower than redstone would make it so that redstone is still popular, while also allowing copper to have a place, especially if there is a converter box for redstone to copper or vice versa.

    Here's an idea I've had for copper for a while - Give the player the ability to make copper golems that can be commanded/programmed and given gear. They could operate workstations. With these characteristics they could expand automation to things like mining, farming, defending areas, tree harvesting, operating redstone machines, item transport, etc. These capabilities would allow redstoners and system builders to save space and material, allowing room for more complex and even more amazing capabilities. It would also make a lot of in game tasks less monotonous and grindy depending on how well versed the player is in dealing with copper golems. Huge opportunity there.

    it's interesting, because while i dont disagree with the points about systems, i do find myself having issues with examples. because there is plenty that is not majorily connected to a system, any decorative block tends to be just that, sometimes they have extra connections or are put in already existing niches (any new wood types or tree types tend to not bring in new systems or new connections, most flora doesnt either, a good chunk of decoration blocks dont have any special interactions, and i think that is fine)
    the only odd thing about copper specifically is that it takes seat as an ore, but is primilaly decorative, which is different from other ores as they kinda suck as decoration
    i also disagree that the "root problem" wont be solved by adding more in the future, the "root problem" is that copper does not have enough systems to interact with to make interesting, if more systems are added then that is solved no? (honestly i dont even fully agree with copper being uninteresting, it's great decoration and it has some interesting stuff with the oxidation)

    Copper Golems would have made a nice addition for Copper, but players ignored the fact that Mojang would add a button specific to Copper and that Copper Golems would only be able to press that button, and bing bada boom, a phobia of pressing other buttons (yes, a literal phobia) meant we got the Allay instead, and their search radius of one chunk is so small that they're not all that effective in their intended purpose. Allays represent another weak addition to the game: Even though they add some much-needed lore to the Illagers and the Vexes, they don't really see much use aside from farms and excavation projects. Their original, stated purpose - to help sort unstackable items - isn't used as much as these other two when it comes down to the average player. The trailer didn't do them any favors, either, making it seem like they'd guide you to where you can get the item you give them when this isn't even in the game. I don't know if you've done a video on this, but maybe analyzing how the trailers mislead people could be a good topic.

    • @jpting_
      @jpting_ 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Honestly I don’t think it was some button-phobia that prevented the copper golem winning, the main reason was the golem was pure novelty. Using for any kind of randomizer would be big, bloated, and require constant cleaning of the golem to rid it of oxidization. Using its de-powered oxidized form as decoration? It’s the perfect decor until it gets struck by lightning and walks off.
      It essentially was pointless, and while the allay wasn’t all that great either, it atleast introduced a new mechanic that we didn’t have prior.

    I think one of the most important problems is that similar systems / items do not have similar actions, for instance copper and netherite are not used the same way as the other metals & materials. the new azalea and mangrove trees have unique saplings, which are cool, but the saplings of the older trees are unchanged. the nether trees just grow from small mushrooms, similar to large mushrooms in the overworld, but do not drop their own mushrooms/saplings. Its unintuitive and makes new additions feel disconnected. Each tree could have their own sapling variant, and method of aquiring this sapling, but the block that makes the sapling should be obvious, unlike azalea and it should be able to be aquired from the tree, unlike the nether trees. I would also say that blocks with GUIs tend to be quite inconsistent too, and I feel this needs less examples.
    To sum it up, its the irregularity of how new features are interacted with within the world, how how far it interacts with other features, that is mostly responsible for new features not fitting in.

      I think making so you can use the dragon for tipped arrows was a cool use of the end tbh. The actual fight does feel uninteresting tho
      But I agree that generally most of the end feels like isolated things that don't fit into systems. If we review what we have:
      - Endermen are basically useless mobs and ender pearls while they used to be useful for transportation are kinda useless now because of elytra
      - Elytra have no reason for their existence lore wise
      - What is an ender mite? That doesn't fit into anything lore wise and is useless beyond its interaction with endermen
      - Lack of interaction between the end mobs makes me wonder why they're all there together
      - Who made end cities? Who inhabits them? Is it the endermen?
      It's kind of a shame because I think you could do so much with what we already have but right now it's just a bunch of stuff thrown in the same place
      The first thing to do would be for the Dragon to drop Elytra wings upon death, I think that immediately explains their presence lore wise and also would make it renewable but difficult to get
      Always felt weird to me that endermen don't have particular interactions with the ender dragon since on my first playthrough I kinda assumed lore wise that endermen would come from the dragon or worship the dragon in some way. The "Free the end" advancement always points to there being more lore wise than we get, like maybe the endermen are under the ender dragon's control or smt.
      I think that could be used during the ender dragon fight. For now the fight is kinda easy because the dragon is super vulnerable during its perching phase, but maybe during its perching phase it could send endermen after you. That sounds super difficult so I think a more reasonable solution would be for the ender dragon to spawn endermite while perching which would attack you, this is kind of similar to how a lot of bosses in other games work. Endermen wouldn't be angered by mites at this stage because they're under the dragon's influence, only once you've freed the end would they then be aggressive towards ender mites since they're scared of the dragon coming back, I think that makes a lot of sense lore wise as it makes it so the dragon is kinda like the mite queen similar to how bees work, and ender mites are worker bees.
      If we continue from the thought that there's some manipulation being done by the ender dragon, we can harness that power for the player and fit it into other systems of the game. Here's a potential solution: we could use dragon breath and eyes of ender to make lingering potion of hypnosis and hypnosis tipped arrows. This would make any affected mob follow the player the same way a sheep follows you when you hold wheat. I think this would be tremendously useful for moving villagers and shulkers
      Also dragon heads are wildly available and do nothing, we know that they interact with redstone by chewing so maybe you could throw chorus fruits in there to break them apart and it makes a linger the same way dragon fireballs or lingering potion does. That way you can acquire dragon breath without reviving the dragon.
      There's a lot that can be done with what already exists that could add to the lore of the end imo
      Also I would love to be able to craft snow falling boots similar to how a turtle shell allows water breathing, but in general I've always liked the idea of having diverging path for armor instead of having a god armor. On top of turtle shell you could have a highly dense armor as well so you can walk on the bottom of water like it was normal ground similar to how hippos do (you kinda have a jump boost tho) and you could have like warden antenas that you can craft into a helmet which highlights mobs that you can hear through walls etc...

    I've been saying all this for a while now, only not as cleanly and concisely as in your video, so really great job on that. and this has been a reoccurring problem for a lot longer then most realize. when Mojang wanted to add honeyblocks, they initially only wanted to add the slow, sliding, and no jump interactions, which is useful in adventure and parkour maps, but has few to no use cases in other systems, as you call them. only after begging from the redstone community they added interaction with slimeblocks, which makes them extremely useful now, but it was never the original intention. same with target blocks, the interaction with arrows is extremely niche, and for most cases where you need arrow detection you can just use a button or pressure plate. again, something that's maybe useful for adventure maps, but has almost no uses outside of that. and again, it got saved by redstone interaction, but this was again just an afterthought by the devs. however, I think the most egregious offender currently has to be the sniffer. yea sure it's a cute mob, but think about it for a second. first you have to go out of your way and explore and get lucky with the brush to find an egg. then you need to hatch it. then you wait until the mob grows up. then wait until it finally starts sniffing for items. and what do you get after all that spend time? a couple decorative plants, with no other use cases then being decorative. don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with purely decorative items, but you gotta wonder how many people are gonna spend all that time and energy pursuing what are basically useless items outside of being decorative. why not add them to the potion system? or give them some other unique properties that other plants don't have? something to make people care other then just looking pretty, a reason to spawn a sniffer more then once before people get bored of the concept. and you're seeing it happen already, once the hype was over, and now that the sniffer finally got added into the game, you hear almost nothing about it anymore. Mojang does a lot of good, and overall I've been positive about the last couple updates (except chat reporting, but that's another issue entirely), but like you said, they really need to focus more on expanding on, and integrating the new things into, the systems that are already there. and I really hope they will, but looking at the latest pre-release, it's not looking good

    I've actually tried to fix a similar issue to this on my own in my singleplayer world, I just straight up stopped using elytra.
    The Elytra in the game are another example of a feature that just steamrolls several other systems in the game, rather than making an item disconnected from the pre-existing systems, it just straight up makes them irrelevant. By not using Elytra, I've already found myself actually getting a horse for the first time in years, along with finding the will to actually make a minecart system! I've begun using boats again, etc. All of these facets of movement that I just stopped touching have all come back and they've given me a chance to engage with the game in a way that makes it feel big again, which is something I've been sorely missing. To compound this, I also personally stopped sprinting. Just to add that little bit of reduced pace to the game.
    I started doing this after going back and playing the Better than Adventure pack for the beta version. Modern endgame minecraft is just too fast.

    One thing that frustrates me is the inconsistency with the updates sure spend a full year to rework the entire nether thats fine by me thay makes sense to take so long but spend a year to ad small features that barely even connect to eachother (1.19&1.20) shouldnt take a full year especially when for updates such as 1.19 they already scrapped so much content yet still took a full year for such small editions
    Id be more happy if mojang/Microsoft instead either 1 release these as mini updates like what notch did years before or 2 take more time to develop a full proper major update so it doesnt feel like we waited a full year for 4 features
    1.19 is a perfect example of this because half the update was just delayed content from 1.18 so we waited a full year for 1 new biome and frogs as the new editions to minecraft
    And may i also mention there litterally doing the exact same thing with bundles were gonna have a 1.19 repeat in the near future because mojang couldnt just listen to the community and instead struggles to make what they *think* the community wants instead of what the community actually *wants*

    • @ghoust592
      @ghoust592 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Here have some examples:
      Fluid Dynamics - we could make pipes out of copper which would be an upgrade of hoppers although not replacing them. Pipes would be able to transport fluids, items and small mobs (like Allay or Chickens). It could also have interactions with ender pearls so they actually go through the pipe. Hoppers could be connected to pipes to save immense amounts of iron.
      Alchemy - Oxidized copper could be scraped for the oxide layer (or the medieval name version), Verdigris. It could be used as another potion base, these potions instead of being used for status effects they will unlock the world of material transmutation (possible silver which could add even more into alchemy or even tie to End Update because it looks like the Astral Plane)
      Electricity - Copper is used for lightning rods so what's stopping mojang from adding electricity. Obviously I don't want to say mojang needs to implement GregTech into vanilla game but it would be nice seeing electric damage, magnets (new compass recipe), or even some redstone integration.
      Alloys - Copper could be used to make jewelry (magic update 👀) Possibly even steel which would make better iron tools that will have different properties from netherite. Copper is used heavily in alloying so it would be nice seeing some copper alloys (bronze, brass, hepatizon, rose gold) and each of these would have different uses (Aquatic Gear, Music, Rituals, Aesthetics)
      The End - So copper might not seem like a thing that would be connected to the end but it's the oxidized state that could be connected because of that cyan color. End would have some sort of crystal (like amethyst, nether could also have one) which then would be combined to make a tool/weapon/armor that could do some havoc in a Minecraft world (Think Avaritia but toned down a lot)

    This video essay was excellent. From the start of the video, it was clear that you knew what you were talking about and wouldn't waste any time to fill up space. Unlike other videos that I can listen to and hear exactly what part of the essay they're on (introduction, body paragraph 1,2,3, conclusion), your transitions were seamless, and I was always invested in what you were saying. Everything you said was clear and concise, you never repeated yourself, and it was refreshing for someone to not just shoehorn in big words to sound smart (it sticks out like a sore thumb when people do that). Also, great visual details. All the graphics you used were simple enough to not distract from what you were saying, but also informative and were a great visual aid. I honestly have no critiques and can almost guarantee that your channel will be growing very fast with this level of quality. You earned yourself a subscriber!
    Edit: I forgot to say some things!!!
    The introduction was full of points I had never heard people mention before and had never even thought of myself. The thesis really hooked me, and the whole section about systems in the game was very informative, and although I already knew you could do stuff like make moss generators, hearing about the numerous systems that work together to make things like that possible really helped me to appreciate it that much more. The music taste was also top-tier. As someone getting into Stevie Wonder and frequently listens to classical and swing, I enjoyed your selection of tracks.

    and they refuse to listen to players and hold up to what they built , fireflies? taken out just cause they poison frogs (WHEN WE CAN LITERALY POISON AND KILL PARROTS WITH COOKIES)

      I think the firefly removal was stupid too but I think the issue is that it took away the input of the player. With the parrot example a person needs to physically give the bird a cookie to harm it, whereas with frogs they’d just randomly get poisoned because they chose to eat a firefly which would be annoying if you had a pet frog that kept poisoning itself because it was eating the particles that keep spawning in the biome you’re living in. But the proper thing to do would have been to just make it so frogs don’t eat fireflies.

    Great analysis. I think Mojang has their priorities mixed up, which has lead to this over-saturation of useless features. Rather than thinking about what could improve the game, then designing new additions around that, the devs seem to just come up with random stuff that might be cool on paper, then in a halfhearted effort to make them "fit in", they assign some basic function that may or may not tangentially relate with the existing systems.
    Copper is a great example, like you mentioned, but this has honestly been a problem for a long time now. Bees, for instance, are only really useful for making honey, which happens to be the worst food in the game. You can tell that bees weren't the result of an effort to add more food variety to the game; they just wanted to add bees, and therefore had to come up with any excuse possible to justify their existence.
    Once again, great video. Short and to the point!

    • @ddevil768
      @ddevil768 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d say bees were way better than copper as they mingled with more systems.
      Bees added honey blocks and honeycomb blocks for those who like building, not great but they’re still there. Bees have a pollination system to speed up plant growth so you can add some bees near your farm or build a farm near an existing beehive for a slight passive increase in food for beginners and farms. Bees provide honeyblocks which in combination with slimeblocks were a massive change in redstone, not to mention the beehives themselves interact with comparators and dispensers to add a new redstone automated farm. The honeyblocks have the sticky property which gave an interesting new feature for parkour maps and traps. Then in future updates they made it so you could seal copper with honey to prevent oxidation and use the honeycomb to make candles which is another addition for builders.
      Whereas copper is really useful only to builders, the lightning rod can protect villagers in outdoor farms or help hit specific targets with lightning which is ok but could be both be done in easier ways, the spyglass is alright, and they made it so drowned drop copper so you could make a new mob farm which is decent for the farming community but that was really it for copper.

      this is ignoring the fact that it only adds value to building cosmetics - which only the "building" type of players generally care about. that's not necessarily and issue, for example the different wood colors add a lot of variety in cosmetics but they can also be used interchangeably for crafting. copper does not have that benefit. a similar idea to the wood colors but with ore is seen in terraria, as there are 4 different "iron" ores (iron, tin, lead, tungsten) which can be used interchangeably

    Mojang shouldn't be afraid of altering existing game mechanics+systems, but after the intense backlash they got after the Combat Update they've been hesitant about doing this and instead have revamped areas that need revamping by exclusively focusing on that area. While this is nice, it's also why the game has become a bit too "bloated" over the years in my opinion. A large amount of blocks, items, and mobs added between 1.17-1.20 only have a single way to get them and a single use. The best example would be, as you've said, copper and its lack of integration with other systems. When a block/mob/feature causes a problem, Mojang will add another block/mob/feature to "fix" the problem instead of actually addressing it directly. I believe this is why updates other than 1.13, 1.14, and 1.16 have been incredibly hit-or-miss.

    As an almost entirely creative builder, I liked copper. It sort of felt like there was an acknowledgement of my type of players.
    That said, I think the biggest problem is Microsoft. Microsoft gobbles up game studios like Disney gobbles up media studios. They use this for control and to artificially prop up their earnings while systematically destroying everything. They don't want to make better games or better media, they want to be one of the few, if possible only, source of games or media without any regard to making a viable product.
    If we want games and media to improve, we have to force anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws on companies like Microsoft so they cannot purchase or even influence studios like Mojang in the first place. Otherwise, they will always lean into the paint-by-numbers, corporate homogeneity system of ticking boxes and relying on massive populations of consumers (i.e.; 8 billion people on the planet makes selling X units easier than when there was 2 billion people on the planet and only 400 million of them were in markets you could sell things in) rather than actually earned consumers.
    30 years ago, you had to work hard, make an optimized and fantastic game to eke out the 25,000 copies to keep your studio afloat. Today, random garbage can be put out, sell 500,000 copies in a month. Smartphones make that effect even worse. Then you consider a game like minecraft with 50 bajillion purchases? Microsoft/Mojang have absolutely no reason to make the game better, it has achieved critical mass and will keep selling more units than it needs to to stay viable financially regardless of their choices. All they need to do is do any random thing to drive baseline interest.

      Lightning rods aren't all that useful for ANYTHING but preventing lightning from clapping villagers, pigs and your wood house (they dont oxidize so they aren't as cool as other copper blocks for building) They are a defensive item that is pretty niche and prevents already unlikely scenarios.
      Spyglasses are a one time craft, usefulness is debatable, but with resource packs it does have novelty due to "WHAT." packs
      Quartz very strongly made it's debut, giving more reason to go to the nether, and rewarding you with either very nice white blocks to build with, OR insanely powerful redstone components.
      Copper has none of this, and has gotten none of this. Brushes are a 1-4~ time craft depending on luck, then you're done with archaeology and no longer need a brush for the rest of your playthrough. Copper's only general use is as a building block, a nice one sure, but it has no walls, no stairs or slabs for the base block or buttons for detail/redstone.
      Forgot to mention, quartz also continued to get useful uses. Observers being one of them, yet another revolutionary block. I forget what else quartz got, it can be used for granite, diorite and andesite 'transmutation', though nobody uses that it IS there.
      Copper needs something to make the extreme abundance worth it.

      @willydonka1041 spyglass is actually beyond useless on bedrock since you cant even see most things that far away, and because of the voxel style, everything you need to know can usually be discerned from a distance without wasting an inventory slot on a glorified low FOV
      lightning rods are kinda cool for lightning-related interactions, but are already too late because of channelling tridents coming first and being way more consistent
      Quartz also has a few features that make it better than copper by default
      1) was basically the nether exclusive ore, forcing you to interact with the nether as a whole
      2) gives lots of XP, making it a high risk high reward option as the logical next step in enchanting after getting diamonds for an enchanting table and portal
      copper just kinda exists in place of iron and by itself has little value that couldnt just be replaced with iron.
      personally I think the weathering mechanic is pretty cool and the only real value copper brings, which is a shame that It is strictly limited to changing the colour of itself. theres no other interaction than to use wax to not have that mechanic.

      @@willydonka1041 daylight sensors were absolutely not a "very useful block", they get rarely used even after they've been updated to be able to do more
      lightning rods have more uses beyond just protection as hitting them with a channeling trident always causes lightning, that has uses and ive honestly seen more of that than daylight sensor
      you may be right to say they are comparable, but the way you compared them was very lobsided, they're not that different. quartz had one useful block and a useless one, copper has semi useful block and two semi useful items, people rarely go out of their way to collect either unless they are building with it, despite being very abundant
      if you wanted an actual difference to make it seem like quartz is better, the ore gives more xp, couldve said that instead of contradicting yourself and pretending the daylight sensor is good

    I dont even bother with vanilla anymore. Ive been there, done that, fifty times. Vanilla is always the same progression for me: spawn, find village, build breeder, build iron farm, build melon&pumpkin farm, build trading hall all while mining as little as possible and quit after 2 weeks. Modpacks are the only things that interest me anymore because there is simply way more progression to go through. They allow me to ‘skip’ the things i find more annoying like mining and let me focus on the things i enjoy like making farms that actually have a good use. In vanilla, once you get a simple mob grinder and an iron and gold farm, you basically have the resources to ‘beat’ the entire game. In modded, that simple farm has to be upgraded by for example crafting an item that require you to get into another mod and beat its boss because the farm needs more output. This is better than vanillas system of just ‘build bigger farm’.

    This is why I love beta 1.7.3. It's simple, yet complex. It has plenty to do without adding pointless things. If I feel like playing modern versions, I would just play 1.16.5. Those are two of the best versions of the game in my opinion.

    As someone who plays a lot of modded minecraft, most vanilla updates feel a lot like mods - some good, some bad, but here's the thing:
    If there was a mod that wasn't very enjoyable, you either individually disable it or else it isn't popular and not included in modpacks and servers or, finally, the developers aren't motivated to support it and nobody else picks it up/remakes it either and it stays stuck in an old version that nobody plays or is simply forever buggy and has other issues.
    Vanilla minecraft or, as I'll call it, "The vanilla mod" completely skips the first parts and just _has_ to update everything that has been ever made, regardless of (X) enjoyability, (X) popularity, (X) developers' motivation (X) how hard it actually is to address issues. Hardly anything is ever _removed_ from vanilla. Last of all, you _can_ play older versions _but_ there's a lot of problems with that, an undeniable one being: you're also reverting bug fixes and other issues that have been addressed, including engine capabilities.
    Essentially, **you cannot disable the vanilla mod** or any part of it without running into major problems. Mods have a LOT more granularity here and often require only one dependency that has content (and isn't just a library/technical engine thing) or none at all. On TOP of that, most mods have ridiculously detailed configuration files. Now, I'm not saying you should fiddle with those - it's a lot more worthwhile to just have a preconfigured modpack - but what I _am_ saying is that mods get locked into bad pathways a lot less, from my experience.
    There used to be so many mods that add "adamantite" and every single tool and weapon with it ("it's better than diamond!") but if it wasn't well-integrated, it got drawn out and forgotten. Feels like Minecraft has a bunch of it's own "adamantites" that only get fixed up in weird ways without addressing the real problems and the number of these adamantites only grows, never shrinks.

    Minecraft updates went from "Oh yeah here's an entirely revamped nether/caves" to "Here's one niche, nearly useless block. We're destroying the community with stuff like chat reporting. Why isnt everyone having fun?" in a short span of time, update-wise.
    As said in the video, copper just seems like bloatware. An ore which does nothing besides being used in crafting very few items, all very niche.

    Very well articulated. It's sad, knowing that design priorities like these are no longer thought of as important inside Mojang. We've arrived at - and passed - the peak, now the only hope we have of reaching a more satisfying gameplay loop is at the hands of a different developer.

    • @tekqgs
      @tekqgs  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I feel that saying we passed the peak is disingenuous. Minecraft isn't a lost cause, there have just been a couple trips along the way. Even with some lackluster additions recently (among many great additions), Minecraft is still an amazing game; mojang just needs to reset their footing.

      @@tekqgs It's not beyond saving, in fact the game is really in great shape, and course-correcting would be relatively easy.
      But Microsoft won't do it. Development is focused on RoI now, Notch is gone, any additions or changes made are made with the express purpose of broadening the demographic as much as possible, at any cost. It's an ugly truth of the system we live under. But it doesn't mean there won't be other passion projects down the line.

      @@gumgrapes ehhhh... I think you're overestimating the role that Microsoft has in development. Sure maybe for the monetization things on bedrock (the main way that modders can make money) and different censorship-ish things (keep them out of legal trouble) that they have been doing recently, but when it comes to the actual game's design it is entirely in the hands of mojang. Broadening the demographic isn't a problem either, it could actually be a good thing. Mojang just needs to be able to support all types of players that play the game.
      Also Notch stepped down as lead designer in 2011, so him being gone is irrelevant.
