  • Sup everybody, today well be tackling the dreaded elm that I accidently brought home the other day. Everybody that knows anything about firewood knows that elm is one of the worst wood to split especially bigger rounds. It smells bad also. Thought it was ash smh. We ended up just splitting it and delivering it to my guy with the wood burner. Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Good thing you didn’t have to split it down small!👍👍

I just re-powered my log splitter. New motor hydraulic pump 5 gallon reservoir. I retired the old 1970s Wisconsin 8 horse motor. Homemade log splitter. Works like a charm. Yeah elm not very desirable. Makes for a good video though. My log splitter was made in 1972

Boy I dunno, dead elm left sitting for at least a year splits easy-ish. Black gum on the other hand, splits horrendously no matter what 😂

Yeah outdoor wood burner he actually wanted 3’ long x 8” pieces my splitter doesn’t split that long 😆. He buys all my scrap/stringy stuff. He told me to keep backing up he didn’t care about the ruts. I refused to go any further though would have never made it out.

I got a small elm that was taken down across the street. Yup. Hard to deal with and it reminded me of manure. Less talk except for an explanation deemed necessary or interesting and more work usually makes for a better video. Keep up the good work and get a tripod.

Small diameter Elm sucks but splits a little bit easier when frozen solid after it was cut live, IME. Moisture in it tends to expand the grain when it freezes, and sharp splitter head cuts the frozen grain instead of tearing it to shreds

Yeah I’ve also found working your way splitting around the outside ring first is wayyyy easier than trying to just split it right down the middle.
