Wow beautiful slabs, hey was thinking maybe some sort of gantry would work to place the logs on the mill, or maybe taller towable log arch on truck tires. Love the banding straps idea I’m gonna get some of those ! Looking forward to seeing some tables made from those elm slabs. Thanks for sharing

I see a lot of your old Cuts standing up all around your work area is that good to stand them up does it make them bow or does it matter?....... never mind I watched all the way to the end
Get you a off road jack and some 3' pieces of 6" cast iron pipe that way you can jack the end of the log up onto it send it with a chain at the end and find you a pull point 4" may even work better for you
Thank you for the comment. I actually have some updated videos where I remove the mill head and back the trailer over my tracks. For round logs, I dragged them off and rolled them over to the mill.
You drop those logs on the concrete. Why not lay down angle iron on each side of the log and tack some strap across the ends making a track? Then just move your mill onto the new track and start slabbing? You can do more with it once it's whittled down.
They do loosen up as the wood dries. The neat thing about these straps is they can be tensioned later with a bar that the company sells (or you can just weld one). If you spray them with water at the buckle, it decreases the heat buildup and you can get them really tight.
Nick, I'm interested in the trailer/winch setup you used to haul the log from the site. Was that a custom trailer that you built yourself? If so, very nice job. It reminds me of the setup Matthew Cremona used in his videos...
Hi Arthur, I have been a long time follower of Matt and he was a large inspiration for my set up. I have a separate video showing my log trailer build. My track is not strong enough to drag logs on the deck like Matt does, but I have some other ways I load them. My latest video shows removing the mill head and backing over the track to get the log in place.

Hi John, My town does not require a permit, nor does my neighborhood have a homeowners association. Since this is just a hobby for me, I do not run the mill that frequently. I try to be respectful of my neighbors and take their schedules in the consideration while using it.

I can’t say if it is a step up from the harbor freight machine, because I have never used a harbor freight bandsaw mill. The reason I chose this model is because it has the ability to do a 31 inch wide cut. I am primarily a Slab guy, so this intrigued me. You find me another machine that can do that for $7000, and now we’ve got a real conversation to be had. I personally don’t notice the wobbling on a regular basis, but sometimes it does happen if the blade is dull or I’m cutting a really hard material like ash. For me, it was a good purchase. I know there are some wood miser machines that can do a large capacity as well, they are much more expensive. They might be better in the long run, I don’t know that. Just make sure you read the fine print if you decide to buy, there are a lot of people that advertise a “36 inch bandsaw mill“ and the throat opening is only 28 inches.

Fill them with insulation foam so they can nor be crushed by 3000 lbs of weight. That's a really good idea but be careful as any incline or decline will be difficult to control by yourself. I have a lot of experience with pipe rollers and they are very effective and quick to pinch. My thoughts are a gantry over your track. You can back the trailer over the track and move your pick point until centered and drive away. I made one out of 6x6's and 2x10's for a friend to pull the engine out of his boat 30 years ago. He still uses it. You even have the saw to cut your own lumber. I'm looking at all the logs I turn into firewood as potential boards. Looks like fun.

8:39 Why couldn't you build some 6'x2' frames out of angle iron and put rollers between the sides of the frames? Like this: images.globalindustrial.com/images/pd/30728767.jpg You could build them in multiple sections and just keep leapfrogging the sections to move the log anywhere you wanted. You could put a couple eyebolts at the front and use ratchet straps to help ease them forward, or help when moving the log up an incline.
Nylon is great. As are all plastics. They'll hasten our demise of course, but in the meantime, they're great! I use plastic glues a fair bit. But I'm sixty nine. I'll live another twenty years at most. And in comfort. Sorry for your kids though. :-(

Come on over and slap me, that will be fun. My son doesn’t move the slabs, so it really doesn’t matter what he’s wearing as far as footwear. If you’ve ever used one of these mills, which I assume that you have not, you would realize that there is absolutely zero sawdust on the drive end of the blade which is where he is standing. When you come over to slap me, I will show that to you.
I gotta give you credit that’s a lot of work and time to cut those massive logs. Pushing that little mill to the max good job

Also...don't forget to paint / seal the ends, especially when the sun shines on the pile ! It makes a big difference on preventing end checks

If you keep the stickers right out at the very ends of the slabs it will help reduce end checking.

That Hudson sure wobbles a bit. Looks half a step better than Harbor Freight to me.

At 6.15 it moved again. You either need a better clamping system or a new sawmill. Seems pretty flimsy compared to others on TH-cam.
One side on the saw head should be on a pivot so it can be used to help cant the log
