Husqvarna 562xp Review, An Opinion Based On Several Years Of Ownership

  • Ok...first "Review" of a chainsaw series. A different cut I think. A review of that 555/562 series of saws from a users perspective with several years of actual experience vs. some one who is a supposed "expert" and grabs a few new saws ON loan for a 15 minute "comparison". Definitely a different approach.

    I also prefer Husqvarna saws, and you are completely right in your assessment of the saw.
    I also find the external clutch annoying, but it has a big advantage because the bar comes closer to the center of the saw for better balance. And that is one of the good sides of the saw.
    But I curse several times when I have to change a 36" chain on my 562 XP-G.

      How did it go with such a long bar?

    What you said is the most important things to think about. Well said! When I was in college (forestry) my instructor preached something similar. And it really does make sense. Parts in some locals can be hard to find & that can matter. I enjoyed this & your perspective of the topic.

    Interesting review.... Cannot agree on the Primer bulb, however. My 60cc Echo might not be a Pro saw cause it's bulky, but... no primer bulb, no little games to start. It starts immediately, Always, Amy weather, hot cold, Absolutely dead reliable. I left it sit in my cold Maine barn for 2years. Later added a little gas to the old and it started like I had it running 10min beforehand. The Echo is Foolishly reliable, neither Stihl nor Husky can hope to the them ~

    I have been logging for over forty years .....i have had a lot of saws but these ( 562) are by far my all time favorite....I actually prefer the inboard clutch because it allows a slimmer design,way more "flickable" than my 572

    That is like splitting our ozark wood you have to wail on it none of that axe crap around here all you do is stick your axe red oak is ok if it's knot free ,I use Bob's score the rounds trick on all my big blocks now which used to be my trick but I stopped doing it for some reason but now I am more vintage than my vintage saws it makes sense again you are a real treasure in the chainsaw community from all of us thanks for everything.

    Walt, it is oddly satisfying when you splice in a bit of train footage! I commuted to work by train for 15 years but have just clocked up a year working from home due to Covid19. I visited Western Australia a few years ago and got to see the Mount Newman Railroad, including the offload facilities in Port Hedland for the Iron Ore it carries. I think it continues to have the record for the world's longest and heaviest train.... We have been getting used to snow in your videos - strange not seeing the blanket of snow and a reminder that the seasons move on.

    Watching your content and others have convinced me to get a used broken 562xp and rebuild it myself. The joy I've had from running that thing since I finished has more than paid for the investment. The performance of that saw is really good, but you have to actually take care of it, if you want it to take care of you. I liken it to a modern performance CPU, which is already running pretty close to its max from the factory, so you have to account for it as though it were already overclocked with beefier cooling etc. The 562xp runs pretty close to its max right from the factory, so you need to keep it clean, and run good oil. I run 40:1 to give it a little extra headroom.

    I’ve had my 357xp for ten years and it’s taking more pulls to cold start it. I just picked up a used 562xp and the primer bulb is definitely a good feature for cold starts.

    Hey Walt, found your channel years ago when I rebuilt my little 350 that burned up due to the plastic clamp. Ported, and pop-up piston, so I've watched lots of "cookie cutter" video's by you and others. Yesterday I watched a video on "square filing" a chainsaw chain. They went from 28+ seconds on a new Oregon chain, to 20 seconds round filing, then 18 seconds round filing and removing the gullet, and then down to under 15 seconds when square filed. An 85% improvement in time over a new chain. I can post a link if you like. Just amazed me at the improvement in time. Thanks for your video's and sharing your knowledge.

    Am undecided between a new 562xp and 572xp for my next saw. Have a 550xp stock and a clone Farmertec G372xp. Mostly I cut firewood on the weekend to sell in a roadside stand, plus want to go into the direction of doing mostly delivery of campfire and fireplace wood.

    Purchased one of these saws yesterday and watching this review today I laugh to myself. When researching the saw ALL I could find was cookie cutting videos for reviews and frankly I'm not about that. I do a fair bit of milling with my 661 and was looking for a companion for outside the mill to replace a busted 044. I enjoyed this video and you gained a subscriber. Is the new filter worth spending money on? The saw I got is a 2018 without the upgraded filter.

    I am glad to see the snow is disappearing. The only problem with that is the mud the appears. My dogwood is in bloom, so Easter has to be right around the corner. I spent, today, fertilizing and liming the yard and then mowed it. Now, the storms and tornados are coming tonight and tomorrow. My saws may get a little work, after all.

  • @lank7
    @lank7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'll have to start paying attention to the 562 line. I'm currently looking for something smaller than my Makita 7900. I use a Dolmar 5000 but parts are becoming an issue now that the company is swapping to battery only equipment.
    I'm a little saddened that the 550 got a complete redesign as it means you can't take an old one and bring it to an upgraded state like the 562. That probably leaves the 346/353 and 357/359 as my other options.

    • @123ChrisG
      @123ChrisG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t see how parts will be a problem i have the EA5000 too and i have spoken to makita and they have guaranteed they will still be making parts for the current makita/dolmar lineup at least 15 years after discontinuation. Unless you are in a remote part of the world or you need a dealer to make repairs for you it will only take a few days to get any replacement part for these saws.

  • @johnclarke6647
    @johnclarke6647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know why you like that 562, the same reason I like my 360 - weight. From what I can tell, my 360 will stay with that 562 and my 440, which is a little heavier, will blow it into the weeds.

The Husqvarna puller I use where u run screws into the pull start dogs "screw" holes is probably a better idea.. :)

I technically don't need it but looking for a lighter saw. I have older saws that sit on the shelf. I have 2 50cc saws which are a Husky 450 and a older Poulan 3000. Then I have a Makita 7901 and a Husky 390XP. Don't really need another saw but thinking of selling the 7901 and using the 562 and 390 as my 2 main firewood saws. 562 with a 18-20" bar. 390 has a 28 and I have a 36 for it for the occasional times I need it.

    is Husqvarna giving the software to government and utility co they sell to repair their fleet of saws

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No idea, but the premise that somehow special software is needed to repair those saws is false, so I would ask does it really matter one way or the other? It would be easier to diagnose but all the old methods still work as would be expected :) Both saws in that video were built from a used set of parts off dead saws and no CST used to do any of that.... so why the question I guess is my response they can do the same on these class saws as any other saw. Just you don't need a screwdriver to set the carbs. In the same spirit as u don't need to set points when the CDI's pushed points systems out of the marketplace
