Hey Wayne thanks very much .This was a fun one to shoot because I was a bit skeptical of how much such a small device like this could make such a big difference .Actually bench testing confirmed the numbers and then at the track it was definatly more responsive .I learned a lot too! Cheers my friend
Excellent video that should prove helpful to many. I loved the editing and wish I knew how to do some of the tricks in this one. Go back to 1977, I purchased some Boyesen reeds for my Yamaha RD400. What a difference they made! I hadn't thought about that brand in decades.
Hey Eric thank you very much I always appreciate you watching and taking the time to craft such great comments .As you know It makes such a difference when we get genuine feedback . Holy Moly man ! a Yamaha RD400 ,what a diamond .I bet you loved riding that weapon . A fresh set of reeds on a well tuned engine would have been magic . I guess the fact the Boyesen company is still around is a testament to their quality ,otherwise they would have been gone a long time ago. Thanks again Eric .Cheers
Thanks very much , I also had never heard of this little mod .A friend of mine who owns the local motorcycle shop mentioned it to me so I thought I'd give it a try .It most certainly made a big difference in responce without any other changes to the carb . As you know ,we never stop learning .Thanks again .Cheers my friend .
The Quickshot 2 and JD Jetkit made my DRZ sing, wheelies got so much easier as the power delivery got super linear, no more da-da-da-da, or hesitation when I quickly open the throttle regardless of RPM(except in neutral, but there isn't much you can do about that - also who cares lol). I have to old style FCR, not the MX shown here, the only issue I had with QS2 was with its lid, it is facing the wrong direction so it interferes with the float bowl. After grinding off about a mm it was good to go. This is a fantastic upgrade, cheaper than anything else you could do on a DRZ and cures your bog if your jetting is close enough, can't recommend it enough. Maybe I would go for QuickShot 3 instead of 2 for the FCR MX though, it also lets you fine tune the leak jet externally.
Heck ya ! I agree 100% 👍 This upgrade is so much bang for your buck its incredible. I had a similar issue with the cover flange being a little bit to big. Squeezing that carb back into the bike is tight enough without that extra metal extending out . Your certainly correct, I should have installed the Q3 instead of the Q2 for a little more fine tuning. Maybe next year I only have a few more decent track days left before the weather gets too unpredictable .Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave such a great comment.Ride safe out there and have fun on your DRZ. Cheers to you good sir 🍻
When you installed the QS3 on your carb with the JD Jet kit installed, did you leave the little spacer or shim that comes in the jd jet kit for the diaphragm? Mine came with one. It’s like a short round piece that goes on the metal tip of the diaphragm. Wanting to try one of these out for my KTM 450 exc. when I boil the throttle to pop up a curb coming off the street and into the grass, more times than not it bogs and messes me up.
Good video, A little more feed back on where the improvement is felt, would have been nice. Also, why is your front brake line on the wrong side of the fork leg?
Thanks very much .The position of the front brake line is the set up like that from the factory .The DRZ is basically a dirt bike and that is typically how most dirt bikes of this vintage are designed are designed .
@jessecrawford2711 Thats a good question. I'm running the original stock carb back on the bike right now ..And the FCR is in bits ..just preparing it for next year track days .Sorry I don't have the details you're look for right now.
@@TRyanLearnBikesi was just curious i have tried all sorts of needles and set ups. Jd jetting with my mods got me 42 hp 28 to mine custom jetting netted 44 and 31 and extended the torque curve 1500 rpm. Stock bore, stage 1 hc, Carrillo rod, black widow exhaust.,
@jessecrawford2711 Sounds like you've got it dialed in quite nicely. Those numbers are impressive. Thanks for sharing the details. Cheers to you good sir. 🥃
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough," I enjoyed this, despite understanding very little of it. You explained it so well, that even I could follow. My short attention span was no match for a video of this caliber. And remember, for the trolls: “Knowledge is no guarantee of good behaviour, but ignorance is a virtual guarantee of bad behaviour.” Well done good sir 🤌🏼
Thank you very much young Courtny .You have a couple of great quotes in this one .I'm well impressed .The first golden rule is a solid mantra to remember for every instructional video I create . .And the second one is brilliant for every troll comment that thinks I failed on rule one . How the heck did you get so smart Ms.Ryan ,Holiday reading on the beach maybe ? Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave such an incredibly stoic observation .LTLLWML
