Gills on the Tucked Into Dreams pike is one of the most sublime pieces of music I've ever heard. Put it through some big speakers so that you can feel the air moving around you, and the world just disappears.
Buckethead is my absolute fucking guitar hero. The man has released over 300 albums over the course of 30 years, played for GNR, worked with Serj Tankian and Les Claypool. He's also an incredibly private, humble, soft spoken and charitable human being. Love this reaction, Michael.

I'm old, and I have seen what are considered some of the greatest guitar players EVER. Most of them I have seen twice. Buckethead is the only musician I have paid to see three times, and I think he is The G.O.A.T! Greatest of all time! The last time I saw him I got to the front and stayed there. I got to play his cut-out switch, and I got a present. Yeah, he hands out presents to the people in attendance. The coolest of the cool. and the greatest of the great! Sometimes I felt like he was looking right at me and wondering why is this old geezer jumping up and down and yelling, "You are the best ever." If you gave me three wishes, wish # 1, to be able to play the guitar as great as Buckethead does, and you can keep the other two wishes. He really is the best ever!
I'm getting older, and I have seen a LOT of DIFFERENT types of music from folk, barbershop chorus/quartet singing, Irish, Scottish, some Arabic and African, musicians of every size, sex, and color, playing a myriad of instruments, AND Buckethead is in the center of my instrumental "cabinet" of great things (people) I have seen(well not in person, yet). He's Phenomenal. It's just that his music is so, so.........clean. And the artwork shown on TH-cam for his videos is pretty wild, too. I don't like the art to "influence" my feeling of the music, though. So, finally if I had to pick one that sticks in my mind every time, it is The Sea Remembers Its Own, then Rivers in The Seas. I've even put some lyrics in herea and there on his music. 🙂
Seeing Buckethead Live is something everyone should do. It got to see him in a TINY venue in Ohio in 2017 and it was incredible. He was 8ft front me, and the tone is so pure and wild with this raw, barely contained, energy. It is an experience you will not forget. Thank you Buckethead!
This is one of Buckethead's best versions of Soothsayer. I love that he plays completely differently every time he performs. It's different every time I hear it.
Besides being an amazing guitarist, he dances, hands out toys to the crowd, and does some serious numchuk work. The man is a true entertainer in every sense of the word. Glad I got to see him live in a very small and intimate venue in my hometown.
His hands are massive too which makes it more fascinating to watch. I’ve been to a couple of his concerts and you really can tell there. Between that and being like 6’7 without the bucket, he honestly looks like he could play basketball.
Seeing Buckethead live was an amazing experience, not just a good show. He is wide open from the very beginning. You think to yourself, "This is awesome! How will he top that?" Then the next song starts.
I saw him in Kansas in 2007. That One Guy was the opening act. Of course Buckethead was amazing, but I had never heard of or seen That One Guy. So unique, and very entertaining. Great show.
I think it's a testament to Mr. Palmisano's skill and knowledge that he's even able to keep up with identifying what the hell Buckethead is doing, let alone work towards emulating it for demonstration purposes. This stuff is so beyond me, I don't even have the barest concept of what's going on; I just think it sounds awesome.
Buckethead is a remarkable guitarist AND musician AND composer. Like others have said, his career spans over a 3 digit number of albums and who knows how many genres. I admit that I thought he was just a strange dude, but I have grown so fond of him and his music it's just beyond words. Kudos to you, Michael, for trying to pin his phrases on the fly like that: bold!
BUcketheads compositions are weak and amateurish(one of the reason why not one of his compositions is considered a guitar classic). He is a decent guitar player with good technique, that succesfully colaborated with many artists, especially rock artists. That is buckethead in a nutshell.

Sadly you were asked to analyze the live version as he always plays this song very freely from the original recorded version. It would have been so so cool that you had looked to the recording because the song has a really awesome development in crescendo. The structure grows in emotions in every cycle. His music saved my life when I was in my darkest times thinking of suicide every single day then one day, randomly soothsayer comes up on my youtube and Rest Is History. He doesn't just plays the guitar, he pour out his emotions in every single pike he puts out and i can Feel those emotions and relates. For me He is my saviour and i pray that in this lifetime, i wish i could touch his feet and just cry.
He changes the major solo every night live. Total improve every night. Recently I saw him two nights in a row and then a week later. Even after 24 shows, every sol was different. He’s amazing live but you must wear earplugs if you’re in the front because the sound shakes your heart. Your ears almost bleed. I learned after my first show back in the early 90s. Saw Buckethead at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA in 2008….played for over 3 hours with one 10 minute break :)…I’ve still got a few videos from then. Buckethead often tours without a band. He’s definitely a musical genius. And a master of his craft.
Half of Bucketheads music i find crap. But the other half is unbelievable. Their is no other artist I know that can play with this much emotion. Emotion he can maintain even through shredding sequences. I have never heard another guitarist do this. Not Petrucci, Satriani, Vai, Lane, Gilmour, none of them. He is by far the most emotional guitarist I have ever heard in my life when he chooses to be. You will have to search through his library of work to find when he wants to play emotional, but when he does, nobody can match him.
he has a lot of experimental for fun stuff out there, yea. but i think you hear what i hear! nothing else is like "emotional" buckethead! check out these 3. my absolute favorites. animal behavior outro(side project) dusk by shin terai(side project) inferno(some kind of side project) these are all super deep cuts considering they arent even found under his name outside of youtube. they are all from 90s/early 00s too in which bucket seemed to have a particular style in comparison to his later playing. fun fact, he would often play some variation of the animal behavior outro in his live shows. it seemed to be a favorite of his as well

As a Guitarist I really wished I had those long Fingers Buckethead has. He just reaches Scale Lengths I would not even wish to try and he does it so Easily!!! Jordan live is for me one of the most technical Songs he ever made.
If it makes you feel any better, guys like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Rhoads had pretty small/average-sized hands and made it look easy too! Plus, there's the always-inspiring Django Reinhardt: whenever I find myself complaining about physical limitations, I go and watch one of his videos and quickly get back to it 😂
@@Imperialmusicfan SRV was relatively small (5'5"). Nobody that small has "massive" hands. His fingers were like tree trunks, but his hand span was average at best.

I've sent alot of phenomenal bands in my 46 years on the planet and I'm not saying this lightly the most baddest ass solo I've ever heard live in person was by this man Buckethead with Primus at ozzfest 99 the version on TH-cam has nothing on what he actually played live that day
"His vibrato has that frightening erratic thing." It's like Hendrix. A great example is Power of Soul on the original Band of Gypsies Live at the Fillmore East. The very first note after the intro part of the song is a great example and really the whole record but that one note is easily heard and just feels like it's burning your soul.
One of the few reactions to this I've seen from a real guitarist that picks up what he's doing and also plays with it. Gonna sub and check out your other videos. Love your vibe and your character, you've got great cadence in your voice that makes listening very enjoyable and you're clearly knowledgeable as a guitarist, which as a fellow guitarist, I can appreciate. ''How he gets there, who knows?'' is a good summary lol.

What has always amazed me about buckethead is he never, ever misses a cord. How much time ,work, effort has gone in to this artists guitar regiment? Crazy.
I still remember watching him playing Jordan live for the first time (I forgot the title of the show). It was a jaw-dropping performance because I have never seen someone play guitar like that. The kill switch, "nubbing" technique, legato all this stuff is just amazing.

This was the first Buckethead video I saw and it made me an instant fan, which is pretty rare for me because I mostly am focused on my own music these days. One of a kind artist.
Check out that stretch he does during Seige Engine. It is just nuts. 27" scale and he goes to work. He just put out a ridiculous amount of music in the last year. He is playing with a band soon again. He is also Death Cube K. Pikes are well into the 300s now. Another thing that he should be praised for is low ticket prices. Small venues concert for like $35. Has played the biggest stages with GNR. Did a PBS special. Has let fans play his set on stage. Just a legend. Thanks for this break down. You are the first person to try explain at least a framework of the solo.
Siege Engine! Yes! That live version is unreal. His hand looks like a giant spider just spazzing out on the fretboard. He really gets into playing that song, too. His body language says it all.

Bucket's attack and ability to fluidly alternate between palm muting and thumb muting as always fascinated me. "Erratic control" is the most beautiful and fitting way to describe him.
Buckethead is as good as it gets! His technical ability opens a lot of doors for creative freedom. The crazy pinky and fast lick that he does using a combination of picked, hammered and pulled notes can be attributed to Paul Gilbert. Brian was a student of his way back in the day. I've always been hooked on Buckethead ever since hearing Jordan back on Guitar Hero 2 15 years ago. Hard to keep up with everything he releases but there's no one like him. Couple of my favorites are The Redeem Team, Siege Engine, Fourneau Cosmique, and hell some full albums like Pike 51 and Colma
Fun Fact: Buckethead is 6'8" tall, and he's not actually wearing a mask. His parents set him in the backyard to be raised by the chickens because his face was so horrific to look upon. He wears the Buckethelm as a symbol of his imminent revenge.
Awesome to see you cover buckethead ! I don’t really listen to him as much anymore but I always do every few months or so . He was the entire reason I ever picked up an electric guitar ! You should check out some of the videos of young buckethead , even when he was young he was such a force
the BEST ! ! ! His pinky finger strength has to be one of the strongest i have seen just for the bends them selves. He has huge fingers. That's why i always wondered why he preferred Gibson short scale? His left hand is more classical vertical style than angled like most rockers to fit all 4 fingers in between the shortened Gibson fret spacing. How does he keep his G string from going out? What i also see is this is one of his freedom simple key changes meaning he has a thousand places to go if he felt the urge. And yes the right hand is the signature of any master guitarist. That's why I tell my casual friend lessons of playing piano, or better yet congas, or bongos. To play the in-between rock beats. Syncopation comes in handy to shake up soloing. Also soloing like a sax player. Rhythm comping on the 1 and 3 with two or triple stops like a piano player. Soloing with a monotone (few notes with a scattered yet vocal placement) like playing on guitar the notes of your mom calling you all in for dinner. ie John Lee Hooker. Glad to hear your hybrid picking immersion! That is so amazing. I love the 132, or 64th note fluries. Buckethead shreds ! ! ! And his mellow pikes are gold.

Hell yeah!🤘 I remember seeing Buckethead live at Ozzfest, back in 2001 I believe, at Shoreline Amphitheatre in San Francisco Bay Ares. Joe Satriani, Craig Chaquico, Ottmar Liebert, and Buckethead were my solo guitarist I really enjoyed and still today, music never gets old. #ThxForTheReaction and to your student for requesting Buckethead. It would be cool to understand how Buckethead played "Big Sur Moon" and to figure out the timing he did with a Digital Delay pedal in sixteenth-notes I believe....? That's how I imagined Bucketheads style of playing.
Thick vibrato like that is also really useful when your guitar tuning drifts, it helps mitigate sounding too detuned by oscillating over the desired area. Kinda like playing on fretless; a little vibrato helps you ease the pitch into the right spot and also makes it sound more dynamic (especially with good gain).
Buckethead has always been one of those players that is so technically out of this world on his instrument, that he’s like a post-virtuoso. I would stick Claypool with him in the tiny box. Like they don’t just master their instrument, they make it look like it’s nothing. Plus he looks really unsettling in the mask haha
Great video... I've been following Buckethead since the '90's, and I've seen him live countless times, and every time he delivers! I got his autograph, a Scrabble game keychain, and a drum stick in Aspen, Colorado at Belly up back in the 2000's... he played with a band and rocked the place...🤘❤️🤘
You can see how much thicker his Les Paul is, too. I believe he is 6'5" or 6'6". Obviously his incredibly large hands and long fingers have been beneficial to his playing, but from everything I have seen and heard from those who know him, he is a fanatical practicer.
Always found it amazing how much heart Buckethead injects into his technically ridiculous music.. I honestly find that to be his biggest talent...love the dude. Seeing Buckethead live was an amazing experience, not just a good show. He is wide open from the very beginning. You think to yourself, "This is awesome! How will he top that?" Then the next song starts.
Everytime I've seen him all the way back to as a teenager in 2005 has been a soul leaving my body experience.
There is also the added bonuses of seeing him Moonwalk, Robot Dance, and hand out toys to people in the front rows.
I saw him in Kansas in 2007. That One Guy was the opening act. Of course Buckethead was amazing, but I had never heard of or seen That One Guy. So unique, and very entertaining. Great show.
He uses the B.B. King vibrato method which is don’t touch the neck and kinda shake your hand, watch Kings video explaining it it’s so interesting!
I think it's a testament to Mr. Palmisano's skill and knowledge that he's even able to keep up with identifying what the hell Buckethead is doing, let alone work towards emulating it for demonstration purposes. This stuff is so beyond me, I don't even have the barest concept of what's going on; I just think it sounds awesome.
Buckethead is a remarkable guitarist AND musician AND composer. Like others have said, his career spans over a 3 digit number of albums and who knows how many genres. I admit that I thought he was just a strange dude, but I have grown so fond of him and his music it's just beyond words. Kudos to you, Michael, for trying to pin his phrases on the fly like that: bold!

BUcketheads compositions are weak and amateurish(one of the reason why not one of his compositions is considered a guitar classic). He is a decent guitar player with good technique, that succesfully colaborated with many artists, especially rock artists. That is buckethead in a nutshell.

Sadly you were asked to analyze the live version as he always plays this song very freely from the original recorded version. It would have been so so cool that you had looked to the recording because the song has a really awesome development in crescendo. The structure grows in emotions in every cycle. Been 7 years listening Big B, i don't have words to describe Sir Brian Patrick Carroll's intelligence and talent. His music saved my life when I was in my darkest times thinking of suicide every single day then one day, randomly soothsayer comes up on my youtube and Rest Is History. He doesn't just plays the guitar, he pour out his emotions in every single pike he puts out and i can Feel those emotions and relates. For me He is my saviour and i pray that in this lifetime, i wish i could touch his feet and just cry.

He changes the major solo every night live. Total improve every night. Recently I saw him two nights in a row and then a week later. Even after 24 shows, every sol was different. He’s amazing live but you must wear earplugs if you’re in the front because the sound shakes your heart. Your ears almost bleed. I learned after my first show back in the early 90s. Saw Buckethead at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA in 2008….played for over 3 hours with one 10 minute break :)…I’ve still got a few videos from then. Buckethead often tours without a band. He’s definitely a musical genius. And a master of his craft.
I saw Bucket at Georgia Theater in 2018 and HOB in Myrtle Beach 2019. I miss not seeing him tour since.

Half of Bucketheads music i find crap. But the other half is unbelievable. Their is no other artist I know that can play with this much emotion. Emotion he can maintain even through shredding sequences. I have never heard another guitarist do this. Not Petrucci, Satriani, Vai, Lane, Gilmour, none of them. He is by far the most emotional guitarist I have ever heard in my life when he chooses to be. You will have to search through his library of work to find when he wants to play emotional, but when he does, nobody can match him.

"His vibrato has that frightening erratic thing." It's like Hendrix. A great example is Power of Soul on the original Band of Gypsies Live at the Fillmore East. The very first note after the intro part of the song is a great example and really the whole record but that one note is easily heard and just feels like it's burning your soul.
One of the few reactions to this I've seen from a real guitarist that picks up what he's doing and also plays with it. Gonna sub and check out your other videos. Love your vibe and your character, you've got great cadence in your voice that makes listening very enjoyable and you're clearly knowledgeable as a guitarist, which as a fellow guitarist, I can appreciate.

What has always amazed me about buckethead is he never, ever misses a cord. How much time ,work, effort has gone in to this artists guitar regiment? Crazy.
I still remember watching him playing Jordan live for the first time (I forgot the title of the show). It was a jaw-dropping performance because I have never seen someone play guitar like that. The kill switch, "nubbing" technique, legato all this stuff is just amazing.

There is a a guitarist with PRS made just for her . Her name is Kanami aka Mincho the band is Band Maid. The song Onset is her play ground.
This was the first Buckethead video I saw and it made me an instant fan, which is pretty rare for me because I mostly am focused on my own music these days.

Check out that stretch he does during Seige Engine. It is just nuts. 27" scale and he goes to work. He just put out a ridiculous amount of music in the last year. He is playing with a band soon again. He is also Death Cube K. Pikes are well into the 300s now. Another thing that he should be praised for is low ticket prices. Small venues concert for like $35. Has played the biggest stages with GNR. Did a PBS special. Has let fans play his set on stage. Just a legend.

Siege Engine! Yes! That live version is unreal. His hand looks like a giant spider just spazzing out on the fretboard. He really gets into playing that song, too. His body language says it all.

Bucket's attack and ability to fluidly alternate between palm muting and thumb muting as always fascinated me. "Erratic control" is the most beautiful and fitting way to describe him.

Buckethead is as good as it gets! His technical ability opens a lot of doors for creative freedom. The crazy pinky and fast lick that he does using a combination of picked, hammered and pulled notes can be attributed to Paul Gilbert. Brian was a student of his way back in the day. I've always been hooked on Buckethead ever since hearing Jordan back on Guitar Hero 2 15 years ago. Hard to keep up with everything he releases but there's no one like him. Couple of my favorites are The Redeem Team, Siege Engine, Fourneau Cosmique, and hell some full albums like Pike 51 and Colma

Fun Fact: Buckethead is 6'8" tall, and he's not actually wearing a mask. His parents set him in the backyard to be raised by the chickens because his face was so horrific to look upon. He wears the Buckethelm as a symbol of his imminent revenge.

the BEST ! ! ! His pinky finger strength has to be one of the strongest i have seen just for the bends them selves. He has huge fingers. That's why i always wondered why he preferred Gibson short scale? His left hand is more classical vertical style than angled like most rockers to fit all 4 fingers in between the shortened Gibson fret spacing. How does he keep his G string from going out?
What i also see is this is one of his freedom simple key changes meaning he has a thousand places to go if he felt the urge. And yes the right hand is the signature of any master guitarist. That's why I tell my casual friend lessons of playing piano, or better yet congas, or bongos. To play the in-between rock beats. Syncopation comes in handy to shake up soloing. Also soloing like a sax player. Rhythm comping on the 1 and 3 with two or triple stops like a piano player. Soloing with a monotone (few notes with a scattered yet vocal placement) like playing on guitar the notes of your mom calling you all in for dinner. ie John Lee Hooker.

Joe Satriani, Craig Chaquico, Ottmar Liebert, and Buckethead were my solo guitarist I really enjoyed and still today, music never gets old. #ThxForTheReaction and to your student for requesting Buckethead. It would be cool to understand how Buckethead played "Big Sur Moon" and to figure out the timing he did with a Digital Delay pedal in sixteenth-notes I believe....? That's how I imagined Bucketheads style of playing.

Thick vibrato like that is also really useful when your guitar tuning drifts, it helps mitigate sounding too detuned by oscillating over the desired area. Kinda like playing on fretless; a little vibrato helps you ease the pitch into the right spot and also makes it sound more dynamic (especially with good gain).
Buckethead has always been one of those players that is so technically out of this world on his instrument, that he’s like a post-virtuoso. I would stick Claypool with him in the tiny box. Like they don’t just master their instrument, they make it look like it’s nothing. Plus he looks really unsettling in the mask haha
Great video... I've been following Buckethead since the '90's, and I've seen him live countless times, and every time he delivers! I got his autograph, a Scrabble game keychain, and a drum stick in Aspen, Colorado at Belly up back in the 2000's... he played with a band and rocked the place...🤘❤️🤘

You can see how much thicker his Les Paul is, too. I believe he is 6'5" or 6'6". Obviously his incredibly large hands and long fingers have been beneficial to his playing, but from everything I have seen and heard from those who know him, he is a fanatical practicer.
