Yeah, its not that simple. The biggest counter on their team might not be my job, I might be taking out the guy who prevents the guy on my team from taking out the biggest counter. There are 6 people on the team, everyone cant have that as their "job".
When both you and your enemy team are in a static moment, look for a target that can weaken the defense of the enemy team. Doing so can help your team push in. The best people to find when weakening a defense is the one who attempts to be greedy or over pushing. You can flank but that will cost a moment of a 5 v 6 and a risk you'll be caught and get killed. High risk, high reward after all. When there is a moment where your team is in a battle trying to kill each other, your priority is to find the one that is closes and valuable to kill. The best thing to know is that everything is gonna happen fast where you gotta react quickly where you won't fully focus on everything. You get what is given to you is basically what I'm trying to say. While I'm still learning about prioritization a bit more, hopefully, this helps you.
THANK YOU. Someone finally identifying that reaper isn't bad. I'm a reaper main and I've been able to play him just fine around mid diamond, sometimes being able to notch up to 80 kills in a game. I"m glad that more and more people are realizing that just because a hero is "out of meta" doesn't mean that they cant be played to the standard of meta heroes.
pete6364 just a few days ago I was top 6 reaper NA. I play him mostly in lijiang and he is quite effective there. I wouldn't say reaper is a bad pick. Just don't pick him in open areas where you can be shot from multiple directions from far distances.

Zachary Murphy If Reaper could do that, he could win almost any 1v1. Against any squishy (assuming you have decent aim), you could just start an engagement and then wraith form to get a little close to them and instantly cancel and one shot.
Zachary Murphy there was a discussion about canceling out of wraith form. It would be considered OP. Reaper would nearly always win in a duel versus Roadhog. An idea I mentioned earlier that would be more fair is for Reaper to have the chance to deflect Roadhog's hook away with a shotgun blast. If Reaper misses he gets hooked. If he hits it...Roadhog may be in big trouble.

Freedo/Weagal/Eddy,Hey guys! First I just have to say I really appreciate the videos you guys put out! I am a hardcore addict of Overwatch because of you guys and the info you have put out. I have used the information to improve my own positioning, team play, communication, comp building, playing around Widow and Hanzo mains, and even my own mechanical skill. However there is one thing that I have noticed you guys taking advantage of and even mentioning a few times but you never really expand upon in great detail and don’t have a dedicated video for, so I think a lot of players that aren’t as keen observers miss out on and need to hear. Using the map geometry to your advantage. Things like the importance of taking the high ground or using a corner to “tank” for you if your Rein or Winston is out of position or even if you are being focused and need to break line of sight to get your bearings in order to turn the duel in your favor. These are things that I see many players make mistakes with all the time. Especially DPS players. It seems like they pick a target and because they are DPS they should always maintain the center of an open space so they can shoot their targets even if they are currently having justice rained down on them from a Phara or fighting a 1v2 against a Rein and a Soldier. Being able to use geometry to your advantage can be the difference between team fights/duels/different skill tiers and I think a lot of people could do with some knowledge of the subject. Hell I know I wish I could show my friends a video that way they don’t think I’m trying to be a know it all when I tell them to just take cover from a Phara in order to either avoid her or force her down to your level to be able to deal with her in a way she isn't comfortable with.Again I appreciate what you guys do!Thanks!Battletag: K1ngNick#1965

Nice to see a video on everyone's favourite edgelord! I've been playing him a lot myself and it's nice to finally see him getting some love. People really underestimate the different ways his abilities can be used and it's sad to see, but I personally enjoy his play style and manage to perform well with it.
Diamond Reaper main on Ps4. Its good to finally see a video highlighting Reaper. He is severely underrated. I would disagree that he is easy to play though. I think Reaper does take a good amount of mechanical skill to play effectively. Being able accurately aim and make the best use of your 8 shots does take some skill.
A positioning video for reaper would be incredibly helpful since most people who play reaper, sometimes struggle on where to be at certain times so a video explaining where to be would be a great help

I never play Reaper, like ever. I understood him as a "tank buster" and always felt other picks were better for that. That said after watching this video I had a better perspective on what Reaper really is. I took these newfound ideas and went directly into competitive. I used terrain to hide and peak-a-boo isolated heroes and just "reaped" hell on them. I specifically singled out the "high priorities" and there was very little the enemy team could do. Great video, as always.

Both right and wrong, Generally speaking yes 76 and Hog are easier overall picks however it will always depend on the actual player which is unfortunate since, a lot of people can't understand that some players are just better/comfortable with Reaper/McCree rather then 76 and Hog.

So the argument is that Reaper is not a tank buster, even though Kaplan implies that he is becuase his statement of more Winston = more reaper and he's not a flanker either. Rather your over watcha argument is that he's a close range duelist.... If your bad with tracer whom they admit is a superior duelist So the defined role for reaper is only effective when you are weak at a hero that performs the role better
Kaplans intentions dont always = how it plays. Orisa is a terrible anchor tank for example. Reaper is good against winston but so is roadhog. Reaper is an excellent duelist, give it a try :)
Your Overwatch can't trust anyone that takes Kaplan's word for how heroes are meant to be played if he intended for Hanzo and Widow to be defense heroes...
my statement on kaplans point was to point out the clear flaw in reapers intended design, when something dosnt work in the way that the DEVELOPERS of the game intended then there is a very real clear and present flaw, and hand waving it away by saying "reaper can do something else", (at second rate to other heros as stated by your overwatch) dosnt change that
when something dosnt work like the devs of the game themselves intended, you know that there is a very real issue, saying he can do something else, at second rate to a tracer mind you sosnt mean anything. The argument that reaper is a strong duelist at his at his preffered range feels like a bad argument to men considering that his postional tools to get into range is extreamly bad considering how loud the VO and secondly that requires the enemy to grossly missplay by getting into reapers range and lastly even though you say he is a good duelist, you also say that tracer is better so he still plays second fiddle even as a "pouncing flanker killing backline squishies"?
K Melesh Just because a hero doesn't work in the way the devs designed it doesn't mean it can't be specializing in something else. Roadhog is among the best damage dealers in the game despite being labelled a tank. As for Reaper being a duelist yet worse than Tracer it dueling. With DPS you are going to have cases where two heroes do the same job yet one does it better, see McCree and Soldier for example. That is going to be the case but it doesn't mean you can't play McCree, Just like Tracer being better than Reaper doesn't mean you can't play Reaper.
I like how you teleported out of sight to another locale out of sight. I'm amazed how few people do that. I've terrorized many healers/soldiers who had no idea I was behind them...
i main reaper and me personally the only issues i have is roadhog, hes the only character i dont walk up to and bullie like i would a rein, dva or orisa but if i catch a hog its over for him, you did touch on a lot of issues i do see myself and others doing, good stuff man i love when people make these videos on my favorite characters and the main reason i picked up overwatch wasnt the fact its a blizzard game but because of reaper. i think 2 changes i would like reaper to see is either let him reload in wraith form, or give him an alternate fire where he fires both of his guns at the same time not alternating between the two but it takes 4 ammo 2 for each gun with about a 6 or so second cooldown

Yo Freedo, this video was perfect as it opened my eyes to the playability of reaper. I definitely think we need more videos like this. Especially with DPS heroes, because i think the community needs to understand each DPS respective play style, which will open up options for me and other players ho wanna get jiggy with some new heroes.
Des Cyrus reaper has no good skins. the beak on his plague doctor skins is godaweful. the guitar on his back OBLITERATES the otherwise great mariachi skins. pumpkin is an event skin, ugly as hell when used outside haloween event. the ice skin's colours are hideous.
Neiro, I relate to that comment on a spiritual level. I honestly prefer the Desert and Wight skins to most of his other skins, though I don't think the Pumpkin skin is that bad.

Reaper isnt bad, he never was. Its the fact every other dps does his job better. Mobility+burst+flanker? Tracer. Mobility+duelist+flanker? Genji. Instant kill+survivabilty+duelist? Roadhog. Anti-flank+burst dps+duelist? Mcree. Literally everything? Soldier. If youre a good Reaper, chances are youd be twice as effective playing Soldier or Roadhog.
Neither soldier nor Roadhog can play (without getting punished) the positions shown in this video. How many Hogs do I have to light up entirely in a video to dispel this lol? -F

R. Yea but reaper has some benefits. Tracer and genji can't delete heros as fast as reaper and have less health not to mention that both characters are way harder to learn, and roadhog has no movement ability at all and if you miss you hook with him your doomed. I believe reaper still needs a little buff but the reason he still need to stay the same is because reaper is one of the easiest characters in the game and he has the second highest damage output in the game. Buffing a character like that can have a huge impact in the community. Just look at bastion when he was buffed.
Here's a shadow step trick: When teleporting, use a short voice line so the enemy team won't hear you. They'll hear a soft "next" instead of "REAP-OSITIONING" or "DEEEEATH COMMMMEES"
Matthew Marsh, Roadhog is definitely overpowered. He has 3 ways of one shotting someone. By hooking someone and then shooting them, by being close to them and shooting them or by being further away from them and shooting them (around the 12 meter mark I'm personally thinking) Next to that he has 600 HP, can self heal for 300 HP and his ultimate does a LOT of damage next to being CC (whereas for instance an ult like Winston's only is CC with little damage)
Hog can one-shot 75% of the cast from the other side of the point and he doesn't even need his hook to do it, while Reaper has to literally be inside of you to get a true one-shot, and even then he can't come close to one-shotting tanks
You are forgetting three key aspects for Roadhog that drags him down. 1- He is slow. 2- His clip is composed of 4 shots only, with a long ass reload. 3- His weapon spread.
Reaper's always had the same playstyle to him: Stay out of sight, pick out enemies that are alone or on low HP, wait for the right moment, swoop in and take them out quick, and then retreat before the enemy team can react.
This meta is so incredibly diverse. I had a game yesterday where we had 4 dps (roadhog being one of them) with zen ana, on KOTH, and we rolled the enemy team, and the entire team was fine with the comp we were running.
Coming from a 200+ hour reaper main, this video did hit a lot of key points on how to use my favorite DPS. Honestly once he is mastered (this does take quite a bit of time), you can use him on any map, as long as you have a good hit scan by your side... I do believe he does need a buff to either movement speed with wraith or to reduce the warning sounds of his teleport.

I love those Zarya bubbles when you ult. Also Jeff mentions about a small change that is a "quality of life" change. I think it is probably being able to see the health globes through walls. I wish it would be the teleport sound reduction, but I don't think so.
Reaper is not "underwhelming" he is far from it people. Know when to use your ult, track your targets and time your shots just right for quick eliminations, and most importantly, work with your tanks! As a filthy Reaper main, Winston is a perfect tank to work with as Winston will apply pressure, and Reaper will clean up the mess. You touched on just about every point why I enjoy using Reaper, thank you :)
As someone who tends to heavily dominate when playing reaper, it's incredible how many people don't realise how quickly reaper can just delete people from the game. He's one of the few characters that doesn't give a shit whether or not his target is being healed - the burst he's capable of just burns through any kind of sustained healing outside of zen's ult.
I got wrecked by a reaper in a game a couple weeks ago and that made me take notice of reaper. as a relatively new player and having not watched any tip videos I really had no idea how good reaper could be. changed me game. I am now a reaper/mercy main and carry my team 80%of the time.
I know a fun thing I found. If you Shadow Walk into the middle of a group, even if you don't have your ult, they're likely to scatter, just because they'll assume you have the ult. So you can do a fake-out to make them flee the Point for a moment.
I agree with you on Reaper. I've been playing him a lot recently and he seems to be really strong right now. I personally use him to flank and go into the back line and duel threats like you mentioned in this video. I'm going to try spending some time following my tank and see how that works. I definitely feel like he's underrated. I've even come across a nice chunk of games where the opponent see's how well I'm doing on Reaper and they get one of their own.
I've had a lot of success in this meta with Reaper and Winston, being someone that was always pretty good at zoning and positioning, but not great with aim. It's making me choose something other than support roles for once, which is always a plus.
This is the most 100% video yet. The past two days for whatever reason, I decided to play reaper because I was tired of shitty dps teammates. I won about 7 straight matches. I was getting 30-50 elims every time.
I completely ignored Reaper for the longest time, but one day I picked him on my least favorite KotH map: Ilios. Can't tell you the last time I played any hero other than Reaper on those maps. I also win more. It's fun. Those maps have some nearly unavoidable short sight-lines on each lane.
I like your bit about how you have to play a hero that's best for your skillset. For example, in some fighting game metas, your main character might be favored or unfavored by the meta, but it's the character you have the most knowledge, muscle memory, and experience with. For example, In Street Fighter V right now, Zangief is firmly middle of the pack or slightly below it. However, if you are a GREAT Zangief player, you'll succeed more often with him than picking somebody higher up on the tier list.
On Eichenwalde just before payloads end, is the best spot for Reapers ult. Wait for the team fight to initiate and right at that time, you teleport up on the wheel holding candlelights. Instantly once teleport is done, you ult and jump down. On the way down you will mow down most of them and once you hit ground its "clean up duty". 9/10 times, the team fight distracts too much in order to turn around to find where Reaper teleported to. You can hide the teleport spot by staying around the corner, you can still see the wheel partially. I have only done a 5-man wipe as max, but its happend several times on just Eichenwalde and on the very last meters. That ult is OP AF if a team fight is initiated. From hearing his voice (after the teleport) to being hit by his ult, is less then 1.5s.

I agree man. I think reaper is super good and people don't really know how to utilize him. Most of the time the problems I've found are finding that winston or rein with luzio's speed to help you get up close
I just started maining Reaper this season, he really fits my stealthy, flanking playstyle but I always found him unreliable because of his low ammo, long reload(well reloading to him anyway), short range, and difficulty aiming, so I always just played Soldier, but I made friends with a guy that's a really good Soldier, so I tried out Reaper more for DPS, and I got used to him and finally realized how much of a beast he was, it's crazy how easily it is to just wipe teams with him, there was one time I went 3 straight games with getting quad Death Blossoms and I never stopped maining him since.
Thank you for making this video. I enjoy playing as Reaper since my aim isn't the greatest, hence why I mostly play Tank and Support. But I do think I have pretty good game sense, thanks to all these TH-cam videos I watch.
I have an idea for a "Reaper Buff"perhaps if he got a small movement increase after he eats a soul cherry it would be cool, or maybe his right click becomes solid shots like Road Hog's right click. After all they are both basically shotguns.

It seems like they pick a target and because they are DPS they should always maintain the center of an open space so they can shoot their targets even if they are currently having justice rained down on them from a Phara or fighting a 1v2 against a Rein and a Soldier. Being able to use geometry to your advantage can be the difference between team fights/duels/different skill tiers and I think a lot of people could do with some knowledge of the subject. Hell I know I wish I could show my friends a video that way they don’t think I’m trying to be a know it all when I tell them to just take cover from a Phara in order to either avoid her or force her down to your level to be able to deal with her in a way she isn't comfortable with.Again I appreciate what you guys do!Thanks!Battletag: K1ngNick#1965

People really underestimate the different ways his abilities can be used and it's sad to see, but I personally enjoy his play style and manage to perform well with it.

Diamond Reaper main on Ps4. Its good to finally see a video highlighting Reaper. He is severely underrated. I would disagree that he is easy to play though. I think Reaper does take a good amount of mechanical skill to play effectively. Being able accurately aim and make the best use of your 8 shots does take some skill.
Too bad on consoles pharah roams the sky's uncontested, so if you pick a reaper or a junkrat, that's a heavy gamble I don't enjoy

I never play Reaper, like ever. I understood him as a "tank buster" and always felt other picks were better for that. That said after watching this video I had a better perspective on what Reaper really is. I took these newfound ideas and went directly into competitive. I used terrain to hide and peak-a-boo isolated heroes and just "reaped" hell on them. I specifically singled out the "high priorities" and there was very little the enemy team could do. Great video, as always.

So the argument is that Reaper is not a tank buster, even though Kaplan implies that he is becuase his statement of more Winston = more reaper and he's not a flanker either. Rather your over watcha argument is that he's a close range duelist.... If your bad with tracer whom they admit is a superior duelist
So the defined role for reaper is only effective when you are weak at a hero that performs the role better
Kaplans intentions dont always = how it plays. Orisa is a terrible anchor tank for example. Reaper is good against winston but so is roadhog. Reaper is an excellent duelist, give it a try :)
Your Overwatch can't trust anyone that takes Kaplan's word for how heroes are meant to be played if he intended for Hanzo and Widow to be defense heroes...
my statement on kaplans point was to point out the clear flaw in reapers intended design, when something dosnt work in the way that the DEVELOPERS of the game intended then there is a very real clear and present flaw, and hand waving it away by saying "reaper can do something else", (at second rate to other heros as stated by your overwatch) dosnt change that

K Melesh Just because a hero doesn't work in the way the devs designed it doesn't mean it can't be specializing in something else. Roadhog is among the best damage dealers in the game despite being labelled a tank.
As for Reaper being a duelist yet worse than Tracer it dueling. With DPS you are going to have cases where two heroes do the same job yet one does it better, see McCree and Soldier for example. That is going to be the case but it doesn't mean you can't play McCree, Just like Tracer being better than Reaper doesn't mean you can't play Reaper.

i main reaper and me personally the only issues i have is roadhog, hes the only character i dont walk up to and bullie like i would a rein, dva or orisa but if i catch a hog its over for him, you did touch on a lot of issues i do see myself and others doing, good stuff man i love when people make these videos on my favorite characters and the main reason i picked up overwatch wasnt the fact its a blizzard game but because of reaper. i think 2 changes i would like reaper to see is either let him reload in wraith form, or give him an alternate fire where he fires both of his guns at the same time not alternating between the two but it takes 4 ammo 2 for each gun with about a 6 or so second cooldown

Yo Freedo, this video was perfect as it opened my eyes to the playability of reaper. I definitely think we need more videos like this. Especially with DPS heroes, because i think the community needs to understand each DPS respective play style, which will open up options for me and other players ho wanna get jiggy with some new heroes.

Reaper isnt bad, he never was. Its the fact every other dps does his job better. Mobility+burst+flanker? Tracer. Mobility+duelist+flanker? Genji. Instant kill+survivabilty+duelist? Roadhog. Anti-flank+burst dps+duelist? Mcree. Literally everything? Soldier. If youre a good Reaper, chances are youd be twice as effective playing Soldier or Roadhog.
Neither soldier nor Roadhog can play (without getting punished) the positions shown in this video. How many Hogs do I have to light up entirely in a video to dispel this lol? -F

R. Yea but reaper has some benefits. Tracer and genji can't delete heros as fast as reaper and have less health not to mention that both characters are way harder to learn, and roadhog has no movement ability at all and if you miss you hook with him your doomed. I believe reaper still needs a little buff but the reason he still need to stay the same is because reaper is one of the easiest characters in the game and he has the second highest damage output in the game. Buffing a character like that can have a huge impact in the community. Just look at bastion when he was buffed.
Here's a shadow step trick: When teleporting, use a short voice line so the enemy team won't hear you. They'll hear a soft "next" instead of "REAP-OSITIONING" or "DEEEEATH COMMMMEES"
Reaper isnt underpowered. The problem is that Roadhog is overpowered. Therefore Reaper pales in comparison in most cases

Matthew Marsh, Roadhog is definitely overpowered. He has 3 ways of one shotting someone. By hooking someone and then shooting them, by being close to them and shooting them or by being further away from them and shooting them (around the 12 meter mark I'm personally thinking)
Next to that he has 600 HP, can self heal for 300 HP and his ultimate does a LOT of damage next to being CC (whereas for instance an ult like Winston's only is CC with little damage)
Hog can one-shot 75% of the cast from the other side of the point and he doesn't even need his hook to do it, while Reaper has to literally be inside of you to get a true one-shot, and even then he can't come close to one-shotting tanks
You are forgetting three key aspects for Roadhog that drags him down. 1- He is slow. 2- His clip is composed of 4 shots only, with a long ass reload. 3- His weapon spread.

Reaper's always had the same playstyle to him: Stay out of sight, pick out enemies that are alone or on low HP, wait for the right moment, swoop in and take them out quick, and then retreat before the enemy team can react.

This meta is so incredibly diverse. I had a game yesterday where we had 4 dps (roadhog being one of them) with zen ana, on KOTH, and we rolled the enemy team, and the entire team was fine with the comp we were running.

Coming from a 200+ hour reaper main, this video did hit a lot of key points on how to use my favorite DPS. Honestly once he is mastered (this does take quite a bit of time), you can use him on any map, as long as you have a good hit scan by your side... I do believe he does need a buff to either movement speed with wraith or to reduce the warning sounds of his teleport.

I love those Zarya bubbles when you ult. Also Jeff mentions about a small change that is a "quality of life" change. I think it is probably being able to see the health globes through walls. I wish it would be the teleport sound reduction, but I don't think so.
Reaper is not "underwhelming" he is far from it people. Know when to use your ult, track your targets and time your shots just right for quick eliminations, and most importantly, work with your tanks! As a filthy Reaper main, Winston is a perfect tank to work with as Winston will apply pressure, and Reaper will clean up the mess. You touched on just about every point why I enjoy using Reaper, thank you :)
As someone who tends to heavily dominate when playing reaper, it's incredible how many people don't realise how quickly reaper can just delete people from the game. He's one of the few characters that doesn't give a shit whether or not his target is being healed - the burst he's capable of just burns through any kind of sustained healing outside of zen's ult.
I got wrecked by a reaper in a game a couple weeks ago and that made me take notice of reaper. as a relatively new player and having not watched any tip videos I really had no idea how good reaper could be. changed me game. I am now a reaper/mercy main and carry my team 80%of the time.

I know a fun thing I found. If you Shadow Walk into the middle of a group, even if you don't have your ult, they're likely to scatter, just because they'll assume you have the ult. So you can do a fake-out to make them flee the Point for a moment.
I agree with you on Reaper. I've been playing him a lot recently and he seems to be really strong right now. I personally use him to flank and go into the back line and duel threats like you mentioned in this video. I'm going to try spending some time following my tank and see how that works. I definitely feel like he's underrated. I've even come across a nice chunk of games where the opponent see's how well I'm doing on Reaper and they get one of their own.
I've had a lot of success in this meta with Reaper and Winston, being someone that was always pretty good at zoning and positioning, but not great with aim. It's making me choose something other than support roles for once, which is always a plus.

I completely ignored Reaper for the longest time, but one day I picked him on my least favorite KotH map: Ilios.
Can't tell you the last time I played any hero other than Reaper on those maps. I also win more. It's fun. Those maps have some nearly unavoidable short sight-lines on each lane.

I like your bit about how you have to play a hero that's best for your skillset. For example, in some fighting game metas, your main character might be favored or unfavored by the meta, but it's the character you have the most knowledge, muscle memory, and experience with. For example, In Street Fighter V right now, Zangief is firmly middle of the pack or slightly below it. However, if you are a GREAT Zangief player, you'll succeed more often with him than picking somebody higher up on the tier list.
On Eichenwalde just before payloads end, is the best spot for Reapers ult. Wait for the team fight to initiate and right at that time, you teleport up on the wheel holding candlelights. Instantly once teleport is done, you ult and jump down. On the way down you will mow down most of them and once you hit ground its "clean up duty". 9/10 times, the team fight distracts too much in order to turn around to find where Reaper teleported to. You can hide the teleport spot by staying around the corner, you can still see the wheel partially. I have only done a 5-man wipe as max, but its happend several times on just Eichenwalde and on the very last meters. That ult is OP AF if a team fight is initiated. From hearing his voice (after the teleport) to being hit by his ult, is less then 1.5s.

I agree man. I think reaper is super good and people don't really know how to utilize him. Most of the time the problems I've found are finding that winston or rein with luzio's speed to help you get up close
I just started maining Reaper this season, he really fits my stealthy, flanking playstyle but I always found him unreliable because of his low ammo, long reload(well reloading to him anyway), short range, and difficulty aiming, so I always just played Soldier, but I made friends with a guy that's a really good Soldier, so I tried out Reaper more for DPS, and I got used to him and finally realized how much of a beast he was, it's crazy how easily it is to just wipe teams with him, there was one time I went 3 straight games with getting quad Death Blossoms and I never stopped maining him since.

I have an idea for a "Reaper Buff"perhaps if he got a small movement increase after he eats a soul cherry it would be cool, or maybe his right click becomes solid shots like Road Hog's right click. After all they are both basically shotguns.
