    Want to hit more rockets? In this video FREEDO breaks down in depth the different types of Pharah shots you want to go for and where to place your rockets so they connect. It's all about setting yourself up and predicting your target and this video breaks down how to attack at an angle, duel close range, mid-air and long range snipe.

      Could you do a vid on how to use your concussion blast? like when to use it to move around the map and when to hit it on enemies and also when ur doing it on urself, how would you use it

      Valkia (GM Pharah) does a couple great videos on utilizing concussion blast for boops and for movement around map, (some of which I do in custom games with cool down set to zero in order to warm up).

    You only talk about mid- to long-range pharah fighting, which is maybe not the best against a widow, ana or a soldier. Valkia taught me that the best in a 1v1 against those heroes is to concussion blast behind you, jump up with shift while firing the first direct hit, and then you land on his head and finish him off. This has worked wonders for me, mostly against widows.
    I definitely recomend Valkya's tutorials for all Pharah players

    • @YourOverwatch
      @YourOverwatch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      2nd half the video is about exactly that. Yes, get first shot, commit fully and quickly. This video isn't about the footsie game as much as 'where to aim', other videos covered that more specifically. -F

      yeah I commented a bit too fast ^^ but I definitely recommend you guys trying to use the concussive blast while dive bombing, it makes you a lot less vulnerable while closing the distance

      I like your video over Valkia's but I find him annoying AF so bias wins! =þ
      Honestly though, this was your better Pharah video. Oddly enough you explained movement and positioning better in this video than your video dedicated to movement. I think that's because you need both for your shot to land. Not just for your rocket to go in the proper lane but to avoid being deleted when you surface up.

      Darkfire Blast yes this is a good video, but most of it is just intuitive and becomes second nature after a certain amount of play time with Pharah. ultimately you just have to practice. i advise playing a good amount of qp as there are many 1v1 engagements where comp is a series of team fights.

    • @Circusfreek7
      @Circusfreek7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That doesn't seem right... to do 360 with 2 sense and 400 DPI takes 68.18 inches, that's pretty much 5.5ft, so 180 would be 2.75ft. That's huge! source: pyrolistical.github.io/overwatch-dpi-tool/

    • @Circusfreek7
      @Circusfreek7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For freedo with 1600DPI and 1 sense, it's a much more manageable 360 of 2.8ft, and for 180 at 1.4ft. again source: pyrolistical.github.io/overwatch-dpi-tool/

    This is perhaps the most informative single video I've ever seen from you! I might actually watch this again, as an aspiring Pharah player. I really see why you like her so much: it's SO much fun to be able to set up ambushes without having to worry about pesky things such as "geography" and "gaps", so this video was a godsend to me personally.

  • @snarcastic4452
    @snarcastic4452 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wanted to say I really appreciate you defining some terms for people in this video, such as squishy and off-angle. I've watched your videos and other videos on Overwatch playstyle and tactics for quite awhile so I know, but many people probably don't, so it's good to explain to people what you're talking about as you go along. I think a trap many "high strategy" Overwatch and other esport TH-camrs make is that they forget that some people don't understand the terms they use as their bread and butter of strategic talk. Using myself as an example, a few years ago I would not have known what a gank, squishy or meat shot was, but in many games these are terms used frequently, and not knowing them can feel really exclusionary.
    Anyway, great video, and thanks again for making an effort to include even the "novice" Overwatch strategy video viewer; I think that sort of thing is the key to getting more people interested in the underlying intricacies of the game, and thus in getting people truly interested in skillful play, which in my opinion leads to a better game community.

    A couple of counterpoints from a looooooooooooong time Quake player:
    1. Sensitivity: A not too low sensitivity is actually very helpful on Pharah. Let's say you have someone strafing left and right in front of you. And let's say you predict the other player to go to the right next but then he surprises you by going left. If you were a McCree, you would have to adjust your aim only slightly and a low sensitivity would be fine. On Pharah though, you might want to do a flick shot to the left here and the distance the crosshair has to travel is much greater than with a McCree. With Pharah you line up your expected shot, leading the target to the right but in a split second you want to lead you target on the left. ---> more travel of the crosshair. IMHO, Pharah is not at all a low sens character.
    2. Get in your enemy's head: This is absolutely what you have to do and your points are valid. However, there is even more to it. For one, low level players may react irrationally to your presence which makes them very hard to predict. As the old saying goes: The greatest swordmaster in the world doesn't fear the second greatest swordmaster. He fears the newbie (because he makes unpredictable/stupid moves). Very highly skilled players, on the other hand, may actively resist the "sensible move" which you have predicted for them, thereby completely screwing up your plan. Also, one has to be aware that the prediction game changes between a situation where your target is not aware of you, a situation when he just became aware of you and situations when he has know about your location and intentions for 2 or more seconds. A target which is not aware of you needs to be predicted by putting yourself into its shoes and thinking about the threats that your target knows about. Which is actually pretty hard because you never truly know everything your target knows. A target who, a second ago, just became aware of you threatening it is the easiest to predict. Even highly skilled players will react on instinct which makes it easy to predict their next move. Someone who has known about you for 2 or more seconds is a different matter again because he will make seemingly irrational moves just to throw off your aim.
    In the end there are 2 modes of firing as Pharah. Prediction shots and flick-shots. To do the first, you need to think in the three categories described above. To do the latter, you don't predict but react to whatever the other player is doing and for which I would suggest having a sensitivity a little more on the side of high.
    Even though having good prediction is key, I would even suggest to use flick-shots when aiming at targets that are unaware of you and are in any kind of combat situation with your teammates. For it is nearly impossible to accurately predict the movement of others when you are not privy to all the threats that this player is facing (in detail). His movements may make perfect sense to him because of the pressures that he is facing and knows about. This changes when YOU are putting the pressure on him because then your movement and shots will influence his moves and therefore you have more information and control on what influences his actions. Making prediction easier. Obviously this isn't the case any longer once chasing or fleeing becomes imperative for the other player because he sees an opening or knows he has to abandon his position due do damage taken etc. Only then prediction kicks in again. The trick is to understand when the other player is transitioning from "I stand and fight" to "holy hell I'm out of here/going in full throttle".

This is the most comprehensive series on Pharah I have seen. Period. The break down is incredible. The still frames, the ideas of creating lanes, the true mobility of Pharah, it's all fantastic. I use 2 rules to determine where to fire rockets with Pharah:
    1. Fire rockets at the center of mass of big groups to maximize splash potential until you see where your counters are, then lock onto them for the rest of the fight (unless going for a flank).
    2. Fire rockets at the most strategic location the enemy in question can move to, so that they either have to run to a less strategic location, a more vulnerable location (so my team can kill them more easily), or hit my rocket.
    What do you think about my rules? XD Granted, when I'm in a 1v1, it's all about predicting their movement and using my reactions, but my 2 rules above cover most of my decision making outside of that. Great video btw!

    I would call myself a Pharah main. So. I aim like this. I track my enemies for a second and then flick to the direction they're going. I find this very reliable because they can only dodge the rocket if they change the direction they're going totally to the other direction. I always do silver damage and if I won't do that, I will change. I love Pharah. And one hint. Always try to kill D.Va's mech and/or Genji before ulting. Genji is not a problem if you can surprise him, but D.Va is a must kill. That DM will get you killed.

    Valkia's got you covered on the Genji / Tracer / Pharah mirror match, as well as how to deal with hit scans, but it does dive into the dive bomb philosophy. So I'd be curious to see your guys take on it from a philosophical angle of the game. I mean I've always ran Pharah successfully with dive comps, or having my team go in first, just because it makes my job a ton easier. But I'm jealous when I see off angle attacks working out so well.

    nice one, hope you guys can include when to use pharah's ultimate at right times

    • @YourDeath311
      @YourDeath311 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1-kill your counter first
      2-Never ultimate in front of enemies
      3-Use a covered position
      4- best is to ultimate above a graviton so you can avoid ren s sheld
      5-be sneaky before use it
      6-only solo ult important piks such as zarya or support
      7-Most important to know is you get all the enemy focus on you when you ullt so back immediatly after the use

    Idk if this would work but I was thinking maybe you could start it off slow, and the more examples you give the faster the examples are. Just a thought. Found the video extremely useful.

    I asked this question several times on live stream but never got a feedback on it:
    Who do you guys think will be more viable in the next meta between Pharah and McCree?
    Love your Pharah gameplay Freedo. and I learn a lot from Liam's Tracer and Eddy's McCree. All of them my favorite heros! Thanks guys!

  • @ipodwolf9188

    Freedo could you make an advanced pharah movement guide? Or is there already one?

  • @dbabbc
    @dbabbc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    something i would recommend is: be more confident about your shots. in that example of the Ana in the doorway, you could've looked right at Lucio one that rocket was fired, but you stayed on Ana. Also, i think that Winston actually should've stayed on the ledge, since he had quite a bit of health left, and, once he saw all your teammates down there, he could've easily survived with a bubble and leap back to his team

    Can you make a torb guide for hitting those tricky projectiles?

  • @lihisluikku
    @lihisluikku 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Low sens is good and all, but as pharah it is important to be able to quickly use your E as a movement skill. Which is why it is important to be able to quickly aim at your feet, behind you, or to your sides, and then flick back at a target that needs to be shot.

  • @KozmoKiller
    @KozmoKiller 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Freedo, you know you can set different sensitivity for different heroes, right? Like you can have a high sensativity for Tracer and low for Widow or Phara

  • @kagekitsune89
    @kagekitsune89 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you do one on what to do in a mirror match of Pharah v Pharah? I find I often have to decide between trying to interfere with the other Pharah or just ignore her, and either way the team ends up suffering for the distraction.
