This totally works! Thanks for the vid. If your steering continues to make noise for a second while jacked up after you do this, lower it all the way and let the car warm up for a couple minutes. I thought mine wasn’t fixed till I did that, and sure enough, no more noise!
I can't understate how much this helps. Just performed this as instructed and the power steering pump on my wife's Forester is nearly silent. The shop who installed it neglected to close the cap on the power steering reservoir and they did not bleed it completely. It's now quieter than it's been in nearly a year.
Nice vid. However, DO NOT pull the plug wires off the coil and crank the engine. You just created a 2" spark plug gap, the high voltage will arc internally in the coil and this will lead to a weak spark and eventual failure of the coil. Pull off the power or trigger wire to the coil, or pull a fuse for the ECM, fuel pump, or the injectors.
04 Legacy. Car was squeeling and hard to turn steering wheel on cold start. Replaced power steering pump and belts. After dealing with a leak from the high pressure hose, everything seemed fine. A week later the steering wheel is feeling stiff worse than it was before. Any ideas?
I put Prestone's full synthetic Asian power steering fluid. It said for all Asian makes, but I'm seeing that all the Subaru owners on TH-cam use atf.. should I take it out?
yeah if you haven't already. the reservoir cap says to use dexron atf. previous owner of my wrx put that clear power steering fluid in and it made the steering feel like garbage.
Hey Devin, thanks for these videos. I just did the rack swap on my 04 FXT but I'm not getting anywhere with this final bleeding the system step. The reservoir is separate from the pump. Do I need to get things started at first with gravity above the pump or what? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Hey Devin, Thanks for the video I actually need to flush my system, do you know which line coming off the reservoir is the return line (the one with hose clamps or the one with hex head?) Thanks!

@@alexannas2923 yeah if I find out a fix ill let you know. I'm going to see if maybe I didn't let all the air out.
Hello Devin! Thanks for the video. If I have no Jack stands is it possible to do this process with the car in the ground? or it would not work?
Thanks for the help! Great instructions.

Thank you so much this video was so helpful thanks brother 100 I appreciate you sharing your knowledge God bless you
So it’s fine to bleed the system after you install a new rack?

if anyone ends up here someday, getting the reservoir higher than the pump and getting the fluid going by spinning the pulley worked.
@@blimov i love u dog

@blimov 3 Years later, this comment still helping. Thanks for updating!

hose clamps. high pressure hydraulics wont ever use hose clamps
Another great video!
YOU THe BEST!
I did this but I still have a whine that changes with the engine rpm. Any other suggestions? I had this noise since I replaced a broken radiator.
Al Pat could be a bad pump
Or bad water pump if you ran the car dry
as i watch these older vids i get sad that u dowgraded to a evo
Chur bro nice vid
