It’s sad that Superman has been overlooked as just a ‘boyscout superhero with no problems’, even though Batman and Spider-Man are my two favourite superheroes, I can’t deny that Superman is the best hero, not because of his powers, but because of his kindness and compassion, one of my favourite animated movies ‘The Iron Giant’ perfectly encapsulates the vetoes and meaning of the Superman character, and it’s me I’ll always remember and hold close to my heart

The entire point of Superman is not that he's "realistic" (really, guys?) but that he provides an example, an ideal to strive for.

It is the bitter potion by which the physician within themselves trys to heal their sick selfes by protecting this tiny, dear part in 'em that's still alive from a world that takes whatever it wants.

Even at his worst, tyrannical Superman still tries to do the best for the society he rules over. He's misguided but still, he's always trying to do the best for everyone else.
And that's a very specific feeling we all should strive for, to try to make the world better for others.

A brief moment that really stands out to me. It’s something I love about Superman. He knows he’s essentially living in a world of paper. He could kill anybody with the flick of his finger, but he never will, because he’s a good man through and through. So instead of going into conflicts guns blazing, he relies on his brain, and his ability to reason with his adversaries. That’s what makes him stand out from all the others.

To add to what I previously wrote, a very solid second thing that Hollywood needs to stop doing is making Superman's entire life revolve around. Lois. Yes, Lois is his love interest. Yes, Lois is an important character in his life, but it doesn't completely define him. Lois is there to enrich his character, not the sole reason he exists. It's so goddamn frustrating. Both the Donner and the Schneider versions of Superman fell into this goddamn problem and I think that's the reason why people think he's like a boy scout or a lap dog as opposed to Batman starts out working alone but works with other people later on. But Batman is still his own character outside of Robin and Batgirl and commissioner Gordon. They need to do that with this new Superman. In fact, I would love to see a story where Clark thinks Lois is dead, but her death actually pushes him to do. The more good thing that he thought would be impossible for himself to do and that's the type of thing I want to see from Lois. Not that she should die, but as an example of her enriching Clark's character not his only purpose to live.

This is my first time watching your channel. I'm a 44yr old guy who's been a Superman fan ever since I was kid. When I was 5, my dad took me to the movies to see Superman 3. Most people view 3 as a flop, but I absolutely love it. It's the 1st movie I ever went too, and sparked a love for the Man of Steel that has endured throughout my entire life. My parents adopted me when I was 3 days old. As a kid I would brag about being adopted because Superman was adopted. I have been trying to explain Supermans awesomeness for years. Your video nails it! The world most definitely needs Superman now more than ever. I can not express how much I love Superman into words. He is everything that I wish I could be and so much more. Every movie, comic, animated feature... I lovem all. Even Superman 4. I really, really, really like Superman Returns! Henry Cavils Superman is almost as good as Reeves. Honestly... Reeves and Cavil are tied. Of course thats my opinion. Cavils departure from Superman breaks my heart. Thank you for this video. I subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watching more of your content. I know people who like Superman, but there's only a few who love him. He is the perfect superhero. Or as perfect as a superhero can be. It's nice to see that someone else loves him for all the same reasons that I do... Not just because he's OP. Your video rocks. I sincerely mean that. I actually like Supermans last orgin movie. As I said, I am adopted. I know what it feels like to be different. Not to fit in. In Man of Steel, Superman has a really hard time figuring out who he is. It's something I can really relate too, and why I like the movie. Of course Superman is my favorite superhero, so I am bias. When Superman breaks Zods neck... Watching the hurt on his face as he comes to terms with that decision gives me cold chills every time. It's why I really like Cavil in the role. I can understand why people don't agree with the movie. I do wish more people liked it. At least Angry Joe likes it. I'll say it one more time. Thank you so much for putting into a video what I've been trying to express for years. I appreciate it more than you could imagine.

In a way the corruption of Superman’s character is largely a reflection of the corruption of the human soul. And as a society the soul of humanity is under attack. A crisis of faith. A return to traditional heroism is needed now more than ever. Idealism isn’t naïveté but a dream that we must always strive for. Just as Superman says when he faces the Elite he writes a note to Lois, he asks her and asks us to BELIEVE

I feel like Super mans flaws is the complete opposite of other heroes. Super man always puts others needs in front of himself. Alan Moore showed this perfectly in For the Man Who Has Everything. That story showed that Superman was truly never really happy as a person because he never got to be selfish. Also in Justice League Unlimited, Bruce Timm perfectly shows what makes Superman flawed as a hero. While Batman has to constantly remind themselves to control their rage and not be vengeful, Superman on the other hand has to remind himself that sometimes its okay to let loose. This is when he’s fighting Doomsday and proceeds to beat the living hell out of him. Bruce Timm clearly showed in one line of a fight scene that Supermans flaw is his lack of practicality (because he is so optimistic and is kind 3000) but its his growth in learning that that makes him more likeable. That’s incredibly human

I grew up watching the animated Superman series, I loved him as a kid but as I grew up I began to like Superman less for some reason. I’m guessing because I sorta just hopped on the “he’s boring/basic” bandwagon. But only in the last year did I realize just how wrong I was thinking about him like that, there’s a reason I think Superman is the greatest superhero of all time now. Because it’s easy to be pessimistic, and often it can be hard to believe in people and or the world. Nevertheless Superman does, that’s the type of person I hope to be each and every day. To those of you who also believe in that, you aren’t alone

Batman is really Batman and Bruce Wayne is the mask. But Superman IS Clark. He's a nice normal guy with his own interests and plans who has a huge responsibility thrust upon him. And not by some outside force, but by his own empathy and morality his parents taught him, his kindness that prevents him from abandoning people in need. I'm pretty sure that when he first dons the suitm to rescue a cat or something, he still treats it as a fun cool secret, still thinking that maybe he can do some good on the side and otherwise focus on a career, a girlfriend, and a regular American dream life. But it quickly becomes evident that he can do TOO much, that any time he spends on himself is time not spent on things he could do for others. Can you put all that pressure on one man? That's the core of Superman's conflict.
You could view the Justice League of finally giving Superman a break, so that he can spend Christmas with his parents without worrying that it comes at the cost of some people on the other side of the globe losing their lives.
Zod says: "I've discovered his weakness. He actually cares for these Earth people." That empathy, which others mock as sentimental, is the core of Superman's humanity.

Superman is meant to represent the best of all of us, but considering people have become so cynical in the last few years, no one believes in good, everything has become either black or gray, so when people see someone good they instantly believe that is not possible or a sign of weakness. The thing is good people are not weak, they are tough as nails because they have gone through so many bad moments, they have faced loss, rejection, humilliation, loneliness and they STILL remain good and that shows you how strong they can be. Instead of letting their anger and pettiness consume them, they remain good, they still help people, they still want to inspire others and see the best in people and that's why good people are so strong, you can't break them easily and if you do, they will rebuild themselves and become stronger and better.

Cynical means an unrealistic negative view of reality, how is unrealistic to say power corrupts? That is the most realistic thing you can say, it is a not a philosophy, it is a fact.
It is also a fact that humans in general are an evil species, there is an abundant amount of evidence that proves that all over history, evil doesn't mean being devoid of goodness and beauty, it has never meant that, what it means is consistently doing evil, that's it.
And the human species has done that since the beginning of their history and to this day, whether it's towards other humans or other species, to deny that is insanity, not positivity or "faith".

Luther showed who He was. He had all of Superman abilities for 24 Hrs. He could have made a source of unlimited energy or fixed world hunger or found a way to repair Our Ozone. Instead what did He do he went on a rampage to prove He was better then others. He never would have let anyone have that power and risk someone challenging Him.

I think the issue is that Superman requires contrast to really be appealing to most people. All that hope and optimism just feels like overly-preppy naivety. But when you contrast it with darkness, a Batman or a Lex Luthor, Superman starts to feel less like an ideal of an ideal and more like a guy who just chooses to be good.

What a great video. It's so good to see someone who understands what superheroes stories really mean. Thank you mate. It's important to remind us all what being a good person is all about. And these stories don't really mean much without people who believe in their message. I'm glad to see there are people like us all around the world. As Superman once said "There is a superhero in all of us. We just need the courage to put on the cape."

I always thought superman was boring.
    And then i realised something.
I had never actually read a superman comic. Never seen his tv shows. Never watched his movies.
So I gave the man of steel a chance.
And I saw the animated series. I started reading the comics. I watched the old movies.
It's weird, but i think this guy "cured" me of my selfdestructive cynicism.
My journey with superman only started maybe a year ago, but i'm confident that I would be in a much worse place today without the man of tomorrow.
Superman is *the* definitive super hero.

Someone on twitter was talking about Superman the way this video is going to (might've involved the Lead-lined Presents clip). I was like "alright... yeh..." bc I still didn't get it yet.
The eye-opener was when someone in that thread said something akin to "you don't root for Superman, you root for Clark Kent" and I was like "...!!!"

Superman is the 🐐 no debate and it’s not bc of his power, although he’s the 🐐 in that aspect as well, but it’s bc of his heart and resilience; he is the epitome and embodiment of hope. For some reason ppl hate him and i don’t know why the ONLY reason i hear is bc he’s “too broken” shii just sounds dumb asl he’s great and all he wants to do is save the day he has no ego and that’s one of the main reasons why i love him so much❤️one day he’s hated, the next he’s beloved, both days he was Superman: the GOAT😤💯

Damn…I’ve watched All-Star Superman a few times, and recently read the comic collection. Never put 2+2 together on the Regan scene - well done! (Grant Morrison understands Superman’s character at the deepest level, an extreme rarity among writers indeed.)

Regarding Clark Kent's speech to Manchester Black at the end of their fight about how dreams keep you sane and at least semibenevolent; I'd clap the alien man on the back just out of a genuine "kudos" moment- by that alone he's outdone me- and to him: keep on going, buddy. Even though he's an element of 20th Century USA mythology; I'd stress that he should persist heedless of cost.

I could never write a character like Superman myself. But he is important to echo, to aspire to. He's not my favorite hero either. I've however roleplayed and written characters who despite not being as good as him, still use him as an ideal, a guiding light, an example to follow. Even a trickster, a rapscallion a rogue can learn from him because his lessons about the responsibility of using power to help rather than harm is important for everyone. I believe there are nuances to be explored in a character that learns from and is inspired by Superman's example, but uses a powerset that doesn't them allow them to do the usual Superman things, a powerset that requires cunning and guile. One can deviate from a shining light as long as its not too far, after all. An ideal is not a thing I'd expect anyone to follow 100% successfully, that'd be inhumane! But trying, truly trying that is what counts, and most things can be forgiven with very very dire and extreme exceptions.

He has friends, he has a job, he has has a girlfriend. “They can be a great people Kal-el, they wish to be, they only lack the light to show them the way. It is this, their capacity for good, that I have sent them you, my only son.” It’s because we see the best of ourselves in him.

I thought Injustice was more about the idea of how superheroes shouldn't try to take away free will even to stop crime with Superman's villainy not being because of "bad day" but more like a slow descent into evil like a "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." With this idea showing how important Superman is to the world when he is good.

I never liked "The American way" being slapped onto superman.
Empathy, understanding, justice, morals and helping others, those things are all universal, Even in nazi germany people would hide jewish families in there houses, putting themselves at risk, to help there fellow human beings.
It isn't the "American way" it is the human way, we can all work for a better tomorrow, we can all make change, no matter where we are, from Ukraine to Russia and North Korea, there are good people all around the world, decent people who fight against corruption.
I get that Superman started out as a purely American comic so it was supposed to use patriotism as a means to make kindness cool but now superman is everywhere, translated into most languages, We should all be expected to be decent, we should all fight against corruption and help those who's rights are being fought against like the lgbt community, we should be like superman and peacefully prevent people from being harmed by systematic and direct oppression, even if it feels like the opposition never listens there is always a chance we can get through to people and let them know that who they hurt are people just like them, not a hive-mind of ghouls, people with all kinds of diffrent life experience and beliefs, not a collective of evil freaks.

It occurs to me the characters like Omniman and Homelander would appeal to Lex Luthor and those like him, because they see the two 'evil Supermen' as more honest.
Perhaps we should stop letting people like Luthor write for Superman.

And even then. Omniman actually has Character growth. He actually slowly realizes the value of the life of beings lesser than him. And other Viltrumites slowly realize this as well.
In a Sense, Even Omniman would slowly understand Superman more.
