Updating an office chair

  • I spotted this office chair on the curb in East Palo Alto. Its solid wood with metal casters. This is a pretty sturdy piece. It just had a tiny bit of damage. I just wanted to update its appearance.
I was able to do this little furniture refurbish project on a very tiny budget. We already had all the necessary materials. It just required some washers, some glue, lots of sandpaper, paint, and some water based polyurethane. The process only took a few days.
This office chair came out real nice. We used it in our office for a little while, and then we sold it. It really looked great in our office. I did this project for my wife, so she would have a nice place to sit when she worked from home. But she didn't think it was very comfortable. So she grabbed a spare chair from our living room. So I just sold this chair. The lady that bought it assumed that I had bought the chair in this way. And I didn't really feel like correcting her. And I really didn't get much money for it. She was the only person to inquire about it. So it was not a hot ticket item, even though I loved the way it looked.
I have another wooden office chair to work on. I'll make it more comfortable than this one, but probably not as nice looking.
We named this channel "We Found These" because these are all projects that we found. We actually used to live in an apartment that had an alley in the back, and we used to find discarded furniture out there and I would just carry it home on a skateboard. We hope to inspire people to try these same kinds of projects. If we can find these, I'm sure anyone can. And if we can find ways to repair and update furniture on a budget, I'm pretty sure other people can, too.
You can find us on IG under the name wefoundthese , and TikTok under the name wefoundthese . We used to have a website by the same name, but we let it go.

Cool! To save your blue tape , next time you have wheels try wrapping them with aluminum foil or plastic wrap :)
