Big transformation on a basic dresser

- A friend was about to discard this basic looking dresser and we asked if we could keep it. It looked like it was solid wood, so I thought I might try to refurbish it. We used mostly cheap materials, such as some cheap paints and wood stain. The paint design actually used more than a roll of masking tape. The work took several days. But I think it was worth the experience.
Would you call this boho-modern? I don't know if that's a thing.
This was definitely a very inexpensive furniture flip. Aside from my time, I probably only used about $35 in one-time-use materials. The paints, polyurethane, stain, and sand paper can and have been used on other projects. I had to buy a couple of dowels ($6) and the drawer pulls ($3 x 8) and a whole roll of masking tape ($6). Most of the paints were very cheap (50 cents and $2) with a couple paints that were in gallon containers ($9), and I'll put those to use in several other projects.
The dowel legs were a pretty fun and yet frustrating experiment. I had no idea if I would even be able to properly connect them. It took several steps to cut them and round over the ends. Then I had to drill proper holes. The long support dowels also needed matching notches in the middle. That was tricky and stressful. But in the end it all somehow worked out. It took a bit of luck and a whole lot of effort. But I guess it takes a bit of bravery to venture out into the unknown.
I did not make a ton of money on this dresser, if you consider my time. For me, this always feels like a gamble, with several factors involved. First, I have no idea if the right local people will be looking for a painted dresser when I put this one for sale. I don't know if my price will deter people from asking for it. Usually people are looking for super cheap deals in the online marketplaces. I need to get on the not-super cheap deals marketplaces. I usually post my stuff on Fridays just before lunch. I think that will get me the highest likelihood of someone seeing it and asking to pick it up over the weekend. And, usually I have a higher command over the selling price if people are asking to buy it immediately. Also, I do not have must space for storage, so I actually need things to sell quickly. It would have been nice if I had sold the two large furniture pieces before this, I would have felt more comfortable turning away low offers. But we needed the win (and the money) so I went with the first person to write to me with a mostly acceptable offer.
But this was a victory in that I was able to try some new things. I love refurbishing discarded furniture. This dresser definitely looked very basic. The color, the beveled edges, and the overall condition, made this thing look pretty ugly. But we were able to give it some substantial upgrades.
We named this channel "We Found These" because these are all projects that we found. We actually used to live in an apartment that had an alley in the back, and we used to find discarded furniture out there and I would just carry it home on a skateboard. We hope to inspire people to try these same kinds of projects. If we can find these, I'm sure anyone can. And if we can find ways to repair and update furniture on a budget, I'm pretty sure other people can, too.
You can find us on IG under the name wefoundthese, and TikTok under the name wefoundthese. We used to have a website by the same name, but we let it go.

My favorite so far. I love how down to earth you are about the process.
Cool attitude. Love how genuine you are. Thanks for sharing
Creators rarely sell their work for a price that reflects the labor. You really have to love what you do.
I love watching you, Jesse. You remind me that it's not necessary to have a whole basement full of fancy schmantzy tools. Good used tools can do the job just fine. And as for this particular project, I love the way it turned out. Cheerful, cute and eminently useable.
It's absolutely gorgeous 😍
Hell yea! New video! Lets go Jesse!

Thank you. This is how i did houses from nansion to row house to three story twin, i would getbthose oops paint and with an older friend over the phone would combine and balance out, perfectly. Sold each at lots more. Goid to hear your journey as you learn and earn. Thank you loads for your honesty in describing your thoughts as you go. Be well.
Beautiful…
I love it! The legs looks really good. I love how you use salvaged materials and oops paints! Well done. I hope the Lady didn't get it too cheap😁
Your design and color choices are inspired! This is a work of art. In terms of sales, I think a lot of vintage and modernist design retailers would buy pieces like this for their shops -- and presumably you could promote your retail partners in the written commentary so that viewers would know to look for your pieces there.
These colors are gorgeous and the end product was beautiful. I hope you didn't compromise TOO much on the price because the amount of labor involved with taping alone is worth so much. Most people wouldn't even consider such a complex pattern because of the labor involved.
I'm really happy that TH-cam recommended this video to me! Insta sub!
How funny! I just watched Katie Scott's new video and she found this exact same dresser in someone's trash! She did a dark stain.😀
Cool
I watched you paint this, but I still can't figure out how you did it! Really striking, I'd buy this.
My goon girl and my bubowis
High Value? No. You made a Crazy Quilt style dresser. Not a lot of People are going to like it. Is it Interesting? Yes. Would I want to look at it Every day in My home? Absolutely Not.
No!
What?
