We Found These
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ม.ค. 2012
We like to find furniture and fix it up. Most of the time we end up trying things that we don't know how to do. Most of the stuff that we use was free, or super cheap.
How do you reupholster a chair?
I found this chair on the curb a few blocks from my house, on a main road. So I drove by it a few times, trying to not pick it up because I already had too many projects stored in my garage. But then I had to drive by it a couple more times, and then it started rain. So I just pulled over and stored it in my car until the rain stopped.
This was a really budget friendly, economical furniture flip. I don't know much about reupholstery, but I probably knew enough to get by. It was interesting to find that the chair was probably recently reupholstered, and that the chair is probably over a hundred years old. The chair was very sturdy, so the flip just involved refinishing the exposed wood and replacing the exterior fabric. The cushion and wood joints were fine.
For this furniture refurbish project, I needed:
a flathead screwdriver
needle nose pliers
sand paper
small wire brush
water based polyurethane
two yards of fabric
fabric hot glue
and a ton of staples.
I don't know much about reupholstery, so I was figuring things out as I worked. In the end, this chair looked pretty neat and sold very quickly. It was a simple and short flip. I'm not really used to doing quick flips like this.
We named this channel "We Found These" because these are all projects that we found. We actually used to live in an apartment that had an alley in the back, and we used to find discarded furniture out there and I would just carry it home on a skateboard. We hope to inspire people to try these same kinds of projects If we can find these, I'm sure anyone can. And if we can find ways to repair and update furniture on a budget, I'm pretty sure other people can, too.

Big transformation on a basic dresser
มุมมอง 2.6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
A friend was about to discard this basic looking dresser and we asked if we could keep it. It looked like it was solid wood, so I thought I might try to refurbish it. We used mostly cheap materials, such as some cheap paints and wood stain. The paint design actually used more than a roll of masking tape. The work took several days. But I think it was worth the experience. Would you call this bo...
My biggest blunder: Refurbishing a giant antique armoire
มุมมอง 2.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
This antique armoire was a left-over from someone's garage sale in Cupertino. So they asked if I wanted to take it. It looked like it needed some work, and it would be challenging to transport and store because of its dimensions. I have worked with furniture that is this tall, or this wide, but it was both wide and tall. The top was falling in, there were a lot of scratches in the wood, and the...
Updating an office chair
มุมมอง 5655 หลายเดือนก่อน
I spotted this office chair on the curb in East Palo Alto. Its solid wood with metal casters. This is a pretty sturdy piece. It just had a tiny bit of damage. I just wanted to update its appearance. I was able to do this little furniture refurbish project on a very tiny budget. We already had all the necessary materials. It just required some washers, some glue, lots of sandpaper, paint, and so...
How to fight with wood pallets to make a computer desk
มุมมอง 2.7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
One universal source of free lumber is the wood pallet. I was very surprised to see how many pallets actually use hardwood. For this video, I just made a table top, 6.5 feet long, 27 inches deep. It is a pretty simple build. But first I had to convert the pallets into usable lumber, which is a pretty big task. This video is sponsored in part by the Resource Area For Teachers, also known as RAFT...
How not to lighten up the wood on a dresser
มุมมอง 1.8K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, we take a very old and tired dresser and attempt to make it more beautiful. We got it for free. It had a little bit of damage, which was easily repaired. Most of my time and energy was spent on trying to lighten up the wood, basically just the refinishing. We wanted to go with a rustic, antique look. The lightened up wood stain is maybe kind of trendy at the moment. And we had a ...
Ugly dresser gets a modern modification
มุมมอง 20K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This dresser was about to get thrown away. It only had a little damage, but it was just a bit ugly. We saw that it was solid wood, so we thought we should save it and try to make it better looking. We did this entire makeover with cheap materials and cheap tools. We gave it a midcentury modern look. This involved some wood working to make the legs and drawer pulls. We did a bit of experimenting...
Giving a vintage dresser a big makeover
มุมมอง 9357 หลายเดือนก่อน
We found this dresser in Mountain View. It was really beat up and being discarded. I picked it up with very little plan and didn't know what to expect. After already starting some of the repairs, we found that it is a real gem with beautiful walnut veneer. We gave it a little bit of a boho meets mid century modern look in the makeover. This project had a bit of woodworking, some staining, paint...
Build a budget greenhouse with mostly free materials
มุมมอง 8189 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have built several greenhouses, some commercial and a few cheap ones for myself. This greenhouse build is really special to me because I got to make it using mostly antique windows. I plan on growing tropical plants in this greenhouse. I want to eventually completely cover the back wall with giant plants. Because of the very low budget, we had to get creative with materials and the design of ...
We turned an old cabinet into a modern looking armoire.
มุมมอง 3.6K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
We got this big armoire from San Jose, someone was discarding it. It was six feet tall, very old vintage piece, absolutely covered in paint. It was very sturdy, the sides were made out of old plywood. I removed the paint and stained the whole thing. I made some bevelled legs out of scrap wood and gave the whole thing a mid century modern look. This is a pretty extreme level of furniture transfo...
Turning a busted chair into a little side table
มุมมอง 1.2K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
We picked up this busted wooden chair from the curb. Using a little section from a tree, we converted this into a pretty neat little side table. It took a little bit of wood working to upcycle and refurbish this discarded trash. The live-edge table top comes up real smooth. Not very straight, but pretty smooth. It turned into a stylish piece for the interior design of a kids room. Royalty Free ...
We have always wanted to do this. Havent found any old windows yet. Would love a follow up video of whats growing in the greenhouse? We have what we call an afdak(side roof is the best translation I can think of). We in South Africa. We grow spinach and squash in ours.
You did a great job.
Love the fabric!
great job. i am a new subscriber now. love the low key and positive commentary
You just showed up on my feed! I'm glad you did too. Very nice work!
Lovely!!!
This was awesome, and love the pattern.
I think you did fine. It looks awesome. Keep upholstering, practice makes for perfection. Having said that it came out looking quite professional.
You did a great job! Keep learning, it gets better. Good luck!
Sometimes sheets have beautiful patterns, curtains too. You did an amazing job! Marvelous!
Wow! Great job!! Your commentary was so humorous!
You did GREAT!! the hardest part is to just start. the more you do the more you learn and save $$ God Bless you in all you attempt!!
Great job!!! Love the fabric!!
good job! i like it very much
I watched you paint this, but I still can't figure out how you did it! Really striking, I'd buy this.
What a lovely chair, good choice of fabric, it was a forgiving pattern and very pretty.
You are hilarious!!! Once people find out, you will have a huge following! ❤ I’m really impressed with your willingness to take on this challenge - upholstery is terrifying to me! I’m looking forward to your future hug chair! ❤ The chair looks great afterward. 🎉
Very cool! So glad you had an eager buyer!
Very nice! I think the black bottom fabric is just called a dust cover
I agree with the person who said you deserve more views. And more comments.
Your Approach is always Unique to say the Least.
Heyyyyyy! Came out great!
Love it! So much better than before. That old fabric really looked ugly. Love your humor, you deserve more views!
Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
High Value? No. You made a Crazy Quilt style dresser. Not a lot of People are going to like it. Is it Interesting? Yes. Would I want to look at it Every day in My home? Absolutely Not.
Beautiful…
My favorite so far. I love how down to earth you are about the process.
Very nice. ❤❤❤
No!
Wow! That is a masterpiece!
Love it!
very nice.
Thank you. This is how i did houses from nansion to row house to three story twin, i would getbthose oops paint and with an older friend over the phone would combine and balance out, perfectly. Sold each at lots more. Goid to hear your journey as you learn and earn. Thank you loads for your honesty in describing your thoughts as you go. Be well.
How funny! I just watched Katie Scott's new video and she found this exact same dresser in someone's trash! She did a dark stain.😀
You're a young guy, you're obviously going to learn by doing. I'm guessing the can could have told you what solvent to use, but you'll learn. Just work on things you find for free, or don't pay a lot for.
It's absolutely gorgeous 😍
Cool
Cool attitude. Love how genuine you are. Thanks for sharing
Awesome job!
These colors are gorgeous and the end product was beautiful. I hope you didn't compromise TOO much on the price because the amount of labor involved with taping alone is worth so much. Most people wouldn't even consider such a complex pattern because of the labor involved. I'm really happy that TH-cam recommended this video to me! Insta sub!
Creators rarely sell their work for a price that reflects the labor. You really have to love what you do.
This is so awesome!!! So proud of you!!!
Vision & Results! Your piece turned out Spectacular!!
Your design and color choices are inspired! This is a work of art. In terms of sales, I think a lot of vintage and modernist design retailers would buy pieces like this for their shops -- and presumably you could promote your retail partners in the written commentary so that viewers would know to look for your pieces there.
Awesome! I love it. Good job!
I love it 😊👍❤
I love your approach to making repairs. Very straightforward and efficient. Suggestion - spots - oxalic acid. Try it. I know you're very frugal, but it is worth the money. The fact that this piece didn't sell is what every one of us furniture flippers has experienced. I saw one of your fans commented that this piece took you to school. Furniture flipping is all about learning. There is so much to know and to do. Keep going. It's worth it. You might want to consider removing the base and adding feet. The base doesn't fit with the vibe of the rest of the piece. Keep going.
Hell yea! New video! Lets go Jesse!
Jesse, with your carpentry talent and knowledge, your future is bright. You might want to consider making black and white patterning. Do spray a coat of acrylic as a sealer on your patterns, twice. Your dresser restoration is great!
I love it! The legs looks really good. I love how you use salvaged materials and oops paints! Well done. I hope the Lady didn't get it too cheap😁
