Glad I’m not the only one who saw the amazing Spider-Man 2 uncle Ben death, also can’t wait for the game to come out, pre order collectors edition in the bag. Also even as a straight mixed (mostly white) guy i can connect with miles and Gwen and all the other characters. It’s just a great story that I love to rewatch. Top five Spider-Man movies.
Really good i live the burger and the village style french fries alyough the tacos with onions were mid Also troy can you review rise of the beasts just so i can see optimus t posing in the backround
hmmmm do you want to talk about concept of trans (in terms of being some biological insecurity like hight, age, or some defromity on your body) idk it seems to me like some parts of world have that (i know this sound crazy but) everyone has been given some cards to play game of life and some got better some got worse and you can approach this game in many ways ( life of stoicizam, some political ideology, no ideology at all, another philosofy) and it's all about making most of those cards or at least that you can survive another day. To wrap it up it's really hard to change your hight gender or (deformity in some cases) and even if you do, Do you really feel satisfied in long run? bc with game of pretending like everything is fine or not pretending game middle aged crisis will hit and reavil your true longings whatever that might be ( i have much more arguments that are not quite sociably acceptable as this one so if you want to hear them say bring it on and if not fine i will do my best to not mention them)
I can't fathom that. People keep inching towards this name like they are in a new league. Let's meter this back a point. If you don't like me saying this you can meet me in the yard.
I took Miguel's reasoning as, he feels immense guilt for destroying that universe. Whether you think it was really his fault or not is irrelevant, he clearly feels guilty and is now taking that guilt out on everyone around him. I really hope they dive into his guilt in the next movie and show how this ruined his perception of the universe
As a fan of Miguel as well, I did find it bizarre how strongly he believed in an "establishment" even though he's very anti-establishment in the comics. I saw it as Miguel losing so much of who he is trying to preserve this canon he isn't even sure exists to justify his own loss and feelings of inadequacy. Like, at one point, he was against being an order bound control freak. Otherwise, he wouldn't have went to that other universe to see his daughter. The canon falling apart is what he blames for the universe collapsing. So in his mind, the canon is the only thing that justifies his trauma
I see it that way, and I also see why pretty much everyone was on his side. They've likely all experienced all their traumatic events and as much as they wanted to stop them they couldn't s, so when confronted with the information that Miguel presented about their traumatic experiences being canon events, it was easier for them to rationalize the thing that happened to them that way, especially because one consistent thing about spiermen is that they overcome their trauma. That's why when Miles comes along and says we don't have to be defined by that, they feel inclined to support Miguel.
something that struck me as odd was that miguel in the comics was fighting in a dystopian cyberpunk society and became an idol for those who felt screwed over by corporations by alchemax. by contrast the city we see in across the spider verse looks very not dystopian and given how much power miguel has its safe to assume he transformed 2099 for the better except during the chase scene we literally find out that the cool utopian city is just built on top of the old shitty one like piltover and zaun from arcane. its easy to miss given how much is going on during the chase scene but its a big hint to me that the way miguel is acting is very not normal for him and he's definitely become a bit of an autocratic control freak in his obsession with the canon
I am being dead serious when I say that I did not know films could be this good. I’m never gonna shut up about this. Every aspect is just perfect the animation, the ost, the characters, their relations, the story, the messages, the acting, the directing, just AH I wanna marry this movie !
I feel like in Beyond the Spider-Verse, it’s gonna start with Miguel’s backstory of how he lost his daughter from another earth just like in this one where we see Gwen’s backstory and how we may see what really caused the world to be destroyed and that may be what changes Miguel’s morals and come back as the comic book 2099 as you said 18:13.
THIS. Honestly, I think in the next movie will start with Miguel's origin story and how he became Spider-man since he got cut off from telling it by Gwen in ATSV
I absolutely love what Miles represents in this movie and that’s him basically saying “hey no I’m gonna figure this out in a way that doesn’t end with something traumatic happening to me or anyone else”. Because as of late I’ve been questioning myself as to why life is trying to make me adapt to the changes it wants to make for me instead of life adapting to changes I wanna make for myself. So him going against the grain really gives me that confidence that things can be different for myself as well. I struggle with basic young adult things in life such as figuring out what I wanna do the rest of my life, trying to get my own place and live comfortably without having to rely on anyone, and also trying to break this antisocial barrier that I’ve gained over the years. Sorry if this is corny but I feel like I’m caught in a web and the spider on that web coming at me is all these fears, anxieties, and expectations of myself
@@shaildarji9555 yeah I get that he lost May and had no choice to let her die, but he literally has his own Miles.. And he would’ve actually tried to talk it out w/ him instead of helping to gang up on him.
That last section of the video breaking down how Miles going against the grain shows us that we don't have to "Fit in", that we shouldn't accept conditional respect and love, we shouldn't let everyone else in the world shout us into submission, into the story we're "Supposed to follow" all of that made me cry. I grew up in an abusive home and even thought I've gotten out of that situation im still not safe, my whole life ive been told I need to "Grow up" and that its okay to be me, to be autistic until it makes anyone else even a little unfomfortable. I should "Be myself" until that self is Queer or Trans or Autistic or not a people pleaser who sits down and smiles, saying nothing, doing nothing. I "Shouldn't be scared of who I am" until I stop masking and talk about my interests and ideas, in which I'm labelled as a weirdo or an extremist just because I think humans should have the right to housing and food. I should just "Grow up" and get a job, I should just "Get over" all my anxieties and disorders. That it's "not possible" for me to be autistic or to have DID because I "used to be so sweet" When I told my guardians I was genderfluid.. you know what they said? No. They didn't shout, they didn't say they didn't accept me or didn't like trans people.. they simply said I was making it up for attention, that I was confused and only thought about being a woman because I didn't have "Enough testosterone" and "Didn't work out enough". They tell me what I should and shouldn't do, and although one of them is more accepting then the other.. even at their best they force me into this box.. into this story. A story that aint mine, a story that I "should" live. I couldn't pinpoint why I cried so much after across the spider-verse.. but I think you let me understand.. why that film spoke to me in so many ways.. cause my whole life ive been the anomaly, literally to the point my NICKNAME is "Anomaly" ive always been the WEIRD KID or the FUCK UP or the kid that every parent points at and says "Don't do what she's doing". I'm autistic, I have ADHD, I'm too black to hang out with the white kids and too white to hang out with the black kids, I have DID and CPTSD, I have RSD, I got the bucketlist of brain disorders tbh... I've NEVER felt like I've truly belonged anywhere, I've been floating through this thing we call life without purpose.. without a need to go on. I've recently been incredibly depressed and suicidal cause.. I feel like I can't escape this prewritten story.. I'm either gonna turn into someone I don't wanna be.. or imma stay the fuck up, the disabled kid who can't do anything.. who has weird ideas and says weird things.. but.. I aint gonna do that no more.. as said so perfectly, in such a short sentence, to all the people who hurt me and said I'd never do anything with my life or told me I could only succeed through their plans and their ideas.. "Nah. Imma do my own thing" Thank you Troy for this video Also I'm totally gonna steal your Pre-Write idea like the little gremlin I am nyehehe
It takes a lot of guts to come out about stuff like that, much less on the Internet but I wanna let you know from the bottom of my heart that we appreciate you. You're not an anomaly, you're human and anyone who doesn't understand that has no part in your story. Take it easy and I hope better people become your friend and ally!
Spoilers obviously When Gwen kicked open the bass drum on her kit to reveal that's where she hid her suit I nearly screamed for a very uncanny reason. I used to hide my gender affirming clothes in my kick drum as well. It literally hit way too close to home for me as a trans woman. Needless to say, I definitely cried a few times.
@@CeolDeamhanhmmmm do you want to talk about concept of trans (in terms of being some biological insecurity like hight, age, or some defromity on your body) idk it seems to me like some parts of world have that (i know this sound crazy but) everyone has been given some cards in their deck to play game of life and some got better some got worse and you can approach this game in many ways ( life of stoicizam, some political ideology, no ideology at all, another philosofy, practicing some religion, go play sports, or just work 9-5 until retieement) and it's all about making most of those cards or at least that you can survive for another day. To wrap it up it's really hard to change your hight gender or (deformity in some cases) and even if you do, Do you really feel satisfied in long run? bc with game of pretending like everything is fine or not pretending game middle aged crisis will hit and reavil your true longings whatever that might be ( i have much more arguments that are not quite sociably acceptable as this one so if you want to hear them say bring it on and if not fine i will do my best to not mention them)
I feel like Hobie turning out as one of Miles biggest supporters was a break away from the usual formula as well Because Miles himself seemed to kinda expect the story that superhero movies usually go There is a villain who you can banter with, then you defeat him with all your fun superhero friends. The conflict being that your girl might get charmed away from this super cool guy And thats why miles also was a little antagonistic towards him at first And when Miles grasps the true horror that is the canon and what it would mean adhere to the formula, Hobie was able to hold out a helping hand because he already accepted to only play the role HE wanted to play This movie is a masterpiece, it already was in the first half but the second one left me absolutely speechless. I could ramble about it for days
I think the racial lens is the most intentional, but I love that it works for anyone, which is what makes it truly the best movie ever. Most of all, I think it’s a story about living who you are, which is important no matter how gay, straight, etc.
A Tumblr post highlighted how both Miles and The Spot both struggle to be taken seriously by others at the beginning but transform into serious powerhouses by the end (not to mention Spot ends up looking like Miles' silhouette grafitti from the first movie, drawing an even bigger parallel). What's great is that it serves both as a good enough arc to justify ATSV as its own movie rather than part one, as well as making us want to see these two duke it out at full strength.
The narrative is about work and careers in a late capitalist society, too, as well as identity. Miles feels pressured by his family and society to go to a certain school and get a certain job, but he decides instead to follow his dream of going to Princeton and studying Physics, despite the disapproval. When he "comes out" to his Mom, it's not just about revealing his identity; who he is, but also expressing what he really wants to do with his life. Hence, "Imma do my own thing."
Also going with the over-arching theme of the film, Gwen 'coming out' and saying "I'm spider woman" doesn't go all that smoothly at first and she gets pushback, so she retreats to the spider society (or back into the closet for the analogy), but she realises it's messed up and she frees herself and in the end her father accepts her for who she is, and doing her own thing.
I think it’s particularly relevant that two of the Spiders closest to Miguel are Peter B and Jessica Drew - the ones who would emphasis with him loosing his other-universe family the most
Something that does annoy me is how much people have spoiled it, I got an advanced screening of ATSV so I didn't get it spoiled, but I feel bad for people who did.
I love the use of queer and racial allegories in this movie, because I remember watching Peter explain his motive to be Spider-Man to Tony in Civil War, where he says "I read books, I build computers . . . and--and yeah. I would love to play football. But I couldn't then so I shouldn't now." and I related to that so much as a disabled man, who doesn't fit within my countries sport focused culture, that I saw myself in Spider-Man. MCU Peter isn't disabled (in the canon), ATSV Gwen isn't trans (in the canon), but that doesn't mean that marginalised people shouldn't find something to relate to in this kind of media.
Obsessed with this movie too. Never noticed the commentary on the "Miles aint real spiderman" people. This movie honestly elevates the original in so many ways without making the original feel less then because of it.
7:46 actually "video game guy" is referred to "Video Game Man" from Spider-Man and his amazing friends show but Spider-Man ps4 also standing there soo it's also saying to him in meta way!
I haven't seen anyone talk about this before, and I only realized during this video: Aside from Miles, Hobie is the only other person that has a version of them as Prowler. In Beyond The Spiderverse, I feel like Hobie and his Prowler variant could help with Miles' understanding variant, if Hobie even knows about his Prowler Variant. (also, to me the canon event thing is also about Miles himself, in the fact that he is a new Spider-Man, and doesn't have to go through the tragic events that Peter always does. same with the forced narratives thing)
The fact Miguel hated Miles because he was the only Spider-Man who enjoyed the world renowned McRib, was a very subtle detail that I didn’t think the filmmakers would acknowledge. Never doubt Lord & Miller!
one thing i don't see a lot of people talking about is the fact that if miles lets everyone die it's not just random people but its other people that he cares about like his mother and his friends
6:30 something I respectfully disagree with is, 1610 Aaron wouldn't let miles become prowler, which I get but my theory is if miles didn't get bit and met Peter he would of slowly become like Aaron, so Aaron wouldn't have miles positive influence helping him want to be better and it'd be a cool thing where they made each other better
Yeah I get that. I just don’t think that SpiderVerse Miles really interacted with Aaron too much post-spider bite so idk how much that played a factor into their relationship. You see how remorseful he feels when Miles reveals himself to him and I think that’s because Aaron’s ashamed that Miles had to see him like that
@@troyoboyo17 It's entirely possible Aaron would've died anyway, which might lead Miles down a darker path. Also regarding Gwen, I think the poster and flag on her father's jacket are both enough to confirm she is a trans character and not just an allegory. The only reason a cop would have a trans flag on his jacket would be a trans child, realistically.
@@festivefish1103i really don't want to hear that so i try to make other explanations and read it differently like it wasn't completely mentioned 1st and in that shot all colours are blurry (with doesn't justify my refusal to beleve) mostly bc her universe is sipderman but if bit girl instead so i don't think it would fit thematically and it would be show in 1st film bc it pretty big thing also her body movement doesn't resamble males bc that unfortunately the thing that separates trans people and normal people bc body movement is hard viered in genetics Soo yea that my explanation
Hope you’re doing ok ❤️ I know it’s easier said than done sometimes but remember to eat and drink water and try to take care of yourself as much as you can
I think there’s more to Miguel than that! I think he’s feeling such tremendous guilt because of what happened to his daughter, and I think this obsession he has with the canon is the only thing keeping him together, it’s like, he’s projecting on miles. from his perspective, everyone died bc he went “out of line”, and he doesn’t want that to happen anymore. even if he’s wrong, even if miles’ dad doesn’t have to die, he thinks things have to work out like this or it’s everything that happened all over again. I think he’s very empathic to miles at the beginning, he starts getting violent because he’s desperate and I think that’s much more powerful than him just being angry and “hating” miles.. he was just doing what he thought he had to do to keep things “right”. I hope we get to know more about him in the next movie!
Everytime I watch one of your Spider-Man videos, I’m so enthralled. You really have such a in depth take on whatever content you work on. I genuinely love your takes on the fandom in general
I've watched it 7 times since it released. Definitely got burnt out, but it's my favorite movie of all time, so I had to. There's just so much to this movie, it's so layered in its storytelling, the characters feel genuine and real, the SOUNDTRACK. Daniel the composer is a mad genuis. The animation has been praised to death, but my goodness, it's the story for me, man.
As someone whose favourite alternate Spidey is Miguel from the comics, it kinda sucks that they had him embody those concepts (in his first major appearance no less). I hope it doesn't taint the character for new fans (or bleed into the comics). The movie version is a complete 180 to the comics version. Edit: Though I guess this version of Nueva York seems to be literal paradise as compared to the comics Nueva York, which is a hellhole for people who're not a corporate overlord. So that might explain why Miguel is not his traditional anti-authoritarian, anti-corporate self in the movie.
same, but I could see why Miguel would be over-prepared to that extreme, although exaggerated they did portray him as a BEAST which I wholeheartedly endorse
I believe it just shows us that he's lost his way as a hero and his guilt and shame have consumed him. Miles is going to remind him *why* they wear the mask in the next movie.
I see what you mean but i also think it kinda links to this idea of him existing as a future spider-man? i hope they maybe explore his struggle to live up to the idea of the past peter parker and how that plays a role in his character
Its a paradise on the surface. We see its built up a more tradition dystopian Nueva York, so this could show that Miguel's trying to overwrite his old history.
I found it funny that Peter was talking about having to make give up and let people die, while knowing full well he would be fighting as hard as Miles if he found out he had to give up Mayday because Miguel said it "has to happen". I really wanted Miles to bring that up when Peter was trying to get him to hold the baby.
Bro this movie is so good. Each character has their own story going on. And I don’t understand why people hate the ending. If anyone can tell me why comment below
people hate the ending because it leaves the entire movie open ended for them. I love this movie but I feel like if part 2 isn’t as good or better than it’ll make pacing and some characters moments useless. Waiting a year to decide how you feel about a movie sucks but I’m sure it’ll be amazing. I also wouldn’t be surprised if part 2 got delayed but that’s fine with me
@@doobiemannpersoanlly I really hope this doesn't become a situation similar to many other trilogys to where the first is great second is even better and the third is either bad or okay I really hope they can atleast make it even better than the second and first ot least be just as good as the first
Fun fact, Avi Arad actually was the one who said they should use Spot as the main villain. So he finally gave a director a good note lol. Spot was my favorite character. Jason Schwartzman gave a great VA performance and turned a villain of the week into a multiversal threat. Also loved Spider Man India and Punk. 2023 is a great year for cape shit and I’m so excited for Beyond.
I always feel wrong when I say it because I haven’t seen anyone agree with me but as much as I like across the spider-verse I still prefer into the spider-verse, I like the smaller scale, characters, and story better in that one than in the sequel, however I will say I am obsessed with Spider-Punk I loved him before the movie came out and I’m so glad he got to be a big part of it
I thought that was what caused the hole in Mumbattan in the 1st place, the collider going off, or the crazy spot covered villain that's actually becoming very intimidating, not the disruption of a canon event, and to be honest, I think you're right that Miguel is wrong but we'll see what happens next time
@@kendi5391 dammit that's true, and what's worse is in Kingdom Come where he represents the loss of innocence and submitting the corporate evil's and order that you fought against as a child.
Ben Reilly in Across the Spider-Verse is one of the best use of Ben Reilly in Marvel content and he was only there for a few minutes. HE WAS HIMBRO BEN REILLY, THAT'S MY BEN REILLY, I WANT MORE BEN REILLY PLS
That last 5 minutes of this video. I love this so god damn much. You are honestly my favourite youtuber and probably one of my favourite people right now, you're so wholesome and all of your content just feels so welcoming. I'm Bi, and I realised that about myself a while ago now, but it wasn't until watching that last bit of this video that I really felt like I could embrace it as part of my identity. I know it sounds weird because it's just a youtube video but the way you explained it, the quotes on screen and even the music in the background just really got to me in a way I didn't know was possible. It just feels like there's this part of me that I never realised was there that's just been let out. So thank you, genuinely thank you so much, you're an inspiration. Keep doing what you're doing, you've managed to genuinely make my life better
Good looking out mentioning that gofundme. Sucks that so many characters can make it into multi-million dollar movies but often times the creators get a pittance of that.
To me Hobie was the absolute highlight of the movie! At first he's set up as being a romantic rival to Miles since Gwen seems fond of him. And Pavitr only makes this "worse" by asking if Miles knows about Hobie, which makes the audience think that there is more going on between Gwen and Hobie. And then, when we finally meet Hobie, he at first seems a bit dismissive and better knowing towards Miles (but it turns out he was actually giving him genuine advice that Miles uses later= use the palms not just the fingers). Also he's trying to get Miles to think more critically of the spider-society and encouraging him to do his own thing; build your own watch, don't enlist until you know which war you're fighting. And when all the other spider people are turning on Miles, Hobie is the only one who has his back; Jessica: "Hobie you're not helping". Hobie "Good". And when Miles is trapped in Miguel's forcefield, Hobie reminds him of what he told him earlier about using his palms, thus helping him escape. When everyone else is chasing Miles (even Gwen and Peter), Hobie is the only one not willing to join them and actually quits the spider society for good. And then he even makes a watch for Gwen so she can assemble a team to save Miles. Hobie truly was the GOAT of the movie! (Also his design and animation look sick as hell!)
I agree that I think the other Spider-people backing Miguel makes sense that he is probably only telling those who went through those canon events about said canon events. Thus they go along with it because if what he's saying us true, then their trauma had a purpose and reason to have happened. That by believing him they can feel lile it wasn't really their fault. We can actually see a hint about this with Pavatr, as he repeats "I can do both" multiple times, indicating he was fully trying to save both Gayatri and Captain Singh. He doesn't seem to have been aware of this canon event
This is the best review of the movie I’ve seen that ending gave me chills it was so perfect. This movie honestly gets better the more I think about it. Two weird criticisms I’ve seen have been about Peter B and Jessica endangering their children like it’s not a fictional story about people with spider powers and calling the Spider-Verse movies copaganda because Miles has a cop dad and doesn’t want him to die. Spider-Man as a character has never been pro cop and people point to the end with Gwen and her dad as being copaganda and ignore the part where he literally quit his job. She was trying to explain being a superhero in a way her dad would understand and people took it at face value cause media literacy seems to be dying. I also definitely subscribe to the queer and racial allegory readings of this movie and feel that Spider-Man as a character is perfect for these kinds of stories.
9:37 I would LOVE if Glover played an older Miles variant in BTSV, he doesn’t have to play a big role, I just wanna see him play Miles again and he would be absolutely perfect as an older version of Spider-Man from an AU
Just wanted to point out, not exactly sure if Insomniac Spidey *knows* he's in a video game and is just meant to be a funny nod. Lyla's hologram looks like it's pointing to Insomniac when she says "another video game guy" before blipping in front of the other game anomaly, the one she's actually referring and pointing to. Hence the confusion in Insomniac; the delay in Lyla's positioning made him think otherwise. A clever visual detail from the animators to add into that scene.
My personal opinion on Miguel is that he starts off as comic Miguel and becomes movie Miguel through trauma or something else of that sort, as you said
Standing ovation 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼 I, too, am obsessed with this movie. I've seen ATSV six times but plan several more viewings. I've seen ITSV at least a hundred times. I have a room in my house dedicated to collectibles from these two movies. I sooo appreciate your commentary and insights. I was shouting YES!!!! at so many of the points you raised. It's a great film with great characters, and it's so much more. I'm excited to see it a few more times in the theater and then I can't wait to watch it frame by frame on digital. I've already pre-ordered two versions of steelbooks. Thanks for a great video. I really enjoyed it!
I think the best way of putting who the protagonist of the movie is is by saying that "it's Miles story from Gwen's perspective". That's how I came to understand why it doesn't feel the same as the first and also gets to be so complete while being a first half
Love this movie with all my heart, but I need some redemption for my man Miguel. Issue 1 of 2099 was my first comic and I can’t imagine a world where everyone thinks miguel is a villain who doesn’t know what it means to be spider-man.
This is THE best look at the movie I've seen so far, I love how you talk both about the explicit things that happen in the movie, and also the IMPLICIT things which are just implied rather than shown and told. The themes and allegories in the movie are really touching honestly and it would have been hard for me to put into words
Idk if its just me but these spider verse movies have been so good i really dont want to see it all end next year i know its going to but i wish there would have been more, i want to see how miles and gwen continue. Its one of those things that its felt like we the viewers have been with them through every step. They did a great job making these characters seem so relatable and real.
Funny enough, in Mumbatthan, you can see the alchemax building become enveloped in dark matter after the collider blows up from the spot. Those same pieces of the building fall onto the ground near the bridge, so it's far more likely the "tears in the multiverse" was just that from the Spot, rather than what Miguel was saying.
Miles' story in this movie had so much queer allegories with "coming out" and "I'll love you the same" and all that stuff, I'd be genuinely surprised if no one noticed it
That bit you talked about with conditional love is totally backed by the music In hummingbird the phrase “love is unconditional…within reason” is repeated several times and that song is played right after miles parents ground him for not telling them everything and right before Gwen shows up. As you can tell I might also be a bit obsessed with this movie
i won't lie, i kinda teared up a little at the end especially seeing great expectations overlaying mile's iconic line in atsv. I'm subscribed and staying, that was great
My biggest problem is that they absolutely ruin the big twist at the end. When miles gets scanned it literally shows “earth 42” on a screen, and it isn’t small or anything, it’s right in the center of the screen for a solid few seconds. So when I realized that the movie clearly didn’t want you to know yet that miles was in the wrong universe I felt super disappointed that the surprise had been ruined for me by the movie itself. They simply could’ve cut that one shot and the surprise would’ve been preserved.
I actually feel like it's more to reward people who paid attention to the movie, Miles being from earth 1610 is said once and people could forget that detail so it feels rewarding to pay attention to what is happening. But that's my opinion, I just felt proud of figuring that out lol
@@joseantoniovargas6548I agree, half my friends didn’t catch it while half of them did. I caught it but I was still wondering if it was actually a different universe.
13:52 Miguel is also wrong because the whole thing about how certain people in their universes are MEANT to become Spider-Man kinda contradicts the whole "anyone can wear the mask" theme
13:51, Miguel specifically states that breaking enough canon events could dissolve realities, which at face value, would imply that not every disruption immediately destabilizes reality or creates dimensional rifts that swallow universes (a phenomenon that occurred before the collider or Spot were an issue the Spider-Society had to deal with, supporting the validity in Miguel’s claim of the dangers of disrupting canon). The fact that Miles took his Spiderman’s place is ostensibly also portrayed as him developing his own versions of Spiderman’s canon events, the first being his Aaron’s death and the impending second being his police captain’s father, like a dna strand being altered, so too is his personal timeline to accommodate the previous Spiderman’s death. It’s also shown how these disruptions can occur due to technicalities, with Gwen’s father resigning as police captain and averting his death, which also technically doesn’t mean that another police captain won’t just replace him and die the same way Miles was assimilated into the Spiderman role when his Peter died. At this point, nothing is confirmed or denied on how all this really works, just speculation based on people’s understanding of the large Marvel Cinematic Multiverse’s take on what happens when universe’s interact (across both the MCU and Sony Multiverse), which repeatedly reference the comic phenomenon of Incursions.
I personally don't think Gwen is trans. She's probably just a supporter of the cause. She could be bisexual though, as you mentioned, the color scheme of her world seems to be very intentional. I have to say, I'm usually kind of iffy about representation in media. Seems like nowadays a lot of products just shove it in your face as if they actually cared about it when in reality they just wanna make money off of it. But I think this movie handled it very well, it was subtle, smooth and respectful. Miles has always been a special character to me as I'm also biracial and have had some of the same struggles he had regarding school and family expectations. I loved this new movie with all of my heart and I'm happy other people could share this same enjoyment out of it.
I like the background. Reminds me of Lily Simpson: "I've never seen anyone with a "Protect Trans Kids" sign who wasn't trans." Which I never considered before.
this is literally the best take I’ve seen on this, I’m glad someone has put everything I’ve been feeling about this movie into a video happy pride tysm keep it up!!!!
I love your video. The last few minutes also genuinely gave me chills as you tied together the messages this incredible movie clearly tries to convey in such an impactful and universal way. Amazing work, thank you for making this!

That's why when Miles comes along and says we don't have to be defined by that, they feel inclined to support Miguel.
something that struck me as odd was that miguel in the comics was fighting in a dystopian cyberpunk society and became an idol for those who felt screwed over by corporations by alchemax. by contrast the city we see in across the spider verse looks very not dystopian and given how much power miguel has its safe to assume he transformed 2099 for the better
except during the chase scene we literally find out that the cool utopian city is just built on top of the old shitty one like piltover and zaun from arcane. its easy to miss given how much is going on during the chase scene but its a big hint to me that the way miguel is acting is very not normal for him and he's definitely become a bit of an autocratic control freak in his obsession with the canon
I am being dead serious when I say that I did not know films could be this good. I’m never gonna shut up about this. Every aspect is just perfect the animation, the ost, the characters, their relations, the story, the messages, the acting, the directing, just AH I wanna marry this movie !

@@tylerdunnan5059 truly his loss. And one day when he finally gives it a chance, he'll regret denying. That, or deny regretting.
Honestly this movie is amazing top to bottom

That last section of the video breaking down how Miles going against the grain shows us that we don't have to "Fit in", that we shouldn't accept conditional respect and love, we shouldn't let everyone else in the world shout us into submission, into the story we're "Supposed to follow"
all of that made me cry.
That it's "not possible" for me to be autistic or to have DID because I "used to be so sweet"
When I told my guardians I was genderfluid.. you know what they said?
"Nah.
Imma do my own thing"

When Gwen kicked open the bass drum on her kit to reveal that's where she hid her suit I nearly screamed for a very uncanny reason.

I feel like Hobie turning out as one of Miles biggest supporters was a break away from the usual formula as well
Because Miles himself seemed to kinda expect the story that superhero movies usually go
There is a villain who you can banter with, then you defeat him with all your fun superhero friends. The conflict being that your girl might get charmed away from this super cool guy
And thats why miles also was a little antagonistic towards him at first
And when Miles grasps the true horror that is the canon and what it would mean adhere to the formula, Hobie was able to hold out a helping hand because he already accepted to only play the role HE wanted to play
This movie is a masterpiece, it already was in the first half but the second one left me absolutely speechless. I could ramble about it for days
I have theory that the only reason why Spider-Punk joined the Spider-Society is because he wanted to tear it down from the inside-out.
1000%
i really love how they handled the characters with the first half of the movie, they take their time before we get to the spiderverse crazy stuff
Holy shit, dude. That last part genuinely made me tear up, now I finally get why I loved this movie so damn much. It really connected with me.
I never noticed that before…gosh dang, these details!
You: "Kilometers Morales"
Me, an Intellectual: "Miles 'Tails' Prowler"
I think it’s particularly relevant that two of the Spiders closest to Miguel are Peter B and Jessica Drew - the ones who would emphasis with him loosing his other-universe family the most
I love that the Donald Glover cameo is only a few seconds yet it has such a massive story behind it
Daniel Kaluuya continues to absolutely kill it as an actor with his role as Hobie. He was so danm funny
Something that does annoy me is how much people have spoiled it, I got an advanced screening of ATSV so I didn't get it spoiled, but I feel bad for people who did.
This movie was SO GOOD that it made me fall in love with movies all over again, its just THAT good!
The spider verse whopper is a cannon event
Never doubt Lord & Miller!
so is the obtaining of the limited time
Mcrib a hard canon event now
one thing i don't see a lot of people talking about is the fact that if miles lets everyone die it's not just random people but its other people that he cares about like his mother and his friends

I hope we get to know more about him in the next movie!
i agree
Everytime I watch one of your Spider-Man videos, I’m so enthralled. You really have such a in depth take on whatever content you work on. I genuinely love your takes on the fandom in general
13:31 and also Gwens universe cause her dad doesnt become the cheif and instead quits which breaks the "Cannon"
Popsicle spiderman watched his best friend popsicle spongebob melt to death in a ice cream truck and that's his canon event
I found it funny that Peter was talking about having to make give up and let people die, while knowing full well he would be fighting as hard as Miles if he found out he had to give up Mayday because Miguel said it "has to happen". I really wanted Miles to bring that up when Peter was trying to get him to hold the baby.
I made a joke after getting the spiderverse whopper saying I hope it doesn't glitch my stomach and make me shit my pants
Bro this movie is so good. Each character has their own story going on. And I don’t understand why people hate the ending. If anyone can tell me why comment below
people hate the ending because it leaves the entire movie open ended for them. One thing that ive never seen brought up is so simple but so effective.
Miguel wears a cape in certains scenes, or it looks that way at least.
Spiderman 2099 is supposed to have a cape atleast i think most of his characters depictions have a cape of some sourt
Good looking out mentioning that gofundme. Sucks that so many characters can make it into multi-million dollar movies but often times the creators get a pittance of that.
What now?
Mad respect for putting the go fund me on blast 🙏🙏
Love the Lego Spider-Man cameo in the thumbnail
That speech at the end was INSANE. Had me stank facing and everything over here
To me Hobie was the absolute highlight of the movie!
Literally the MVP of the movie
I’m gonna call Prowler!Miles “Kilometers Immorales.”
As a trans girl, I actually came out to my parents the day I watched this movie, and I had to say WOW SHES SO TRANS
Your final chapter/point, “Imma do my own thing”, is spot on.
I also didn’t interpret Gwen being directly trans, but it being more metaphorical for the idea of Spider-man/woman/horse
My personal opinion on Miguel is that he starts off as comic Miguel and becomes movie Miguel through trauma or something else of that sort, as you said

The way I see it, Miguel’s reality broke because he avoided responsibility. Miles and Mayday accept responsibility so their realities are fine.
Why is every Troyoboyo video just so damn good? Props for the breakdown, man, you described everything perfectly
Miles' story in this movie had so much queer allegories with "coming out" and "I'll love you the same" and all that stuff, I'd be genuinely surprised if no one noticed it
That bit you talked about with conditional love is totally backed by the music
In hummingbird the phrase “love is unconditional…within reason” is repeated several times and that song is played right after miles parents ground him for not telling them everything and right before Gwen shows up.
As you can tell I might also be a bit obsessed with this movie
The ending of this video was really moving, and just oozed passion. Love your take on the film!
i won't lie, i kinda teared up a little at the end especially seeing great expectations overlaying mile's iconic line in atsv.
@@elmatador9086 The movie was really good at making it a bit confusing, even I when I saw Miles was getting sent to earth 42
It's really a blink and you'll miss it moment bro you were just lucky enough to not be blinking.
DUUUUUUUDEEEEE that last section gave me SOOO much goosebumps!!! Fantastic video!!
It seems right for a Lego Spider-Man in a Chris Miller and Phil Lord movie
I think my villain origin will be my quest to travel to Earth-1610 to steal Ganke's copy of Spider-Man 2
20:39 congrats on playing the homophobes 💀
13:52 Miguel is also wrong because the whole thing about how certain people in their universes are MEANT to become Spider-Man kinda contradicts the whole "anyone can wear the mask" theme
Same, I’m so hyped for the sequel because of how amazing this one was!
The first movie was about finding who you are
The second is about being who you are
Every video I watch, Troy becomes more and more based
13:51, Miguel specifically states that breaking enough canon events could dissolve realities, which at face value, would imply that not every disruption immediately destabilizes reality or creates dimensional rifts that swallow universes (a phenomenon that occurred before the collider or Spot were an issue the Spider-Society had to deal with, supporting the validity in Miguel’s claim of the dangers of disrupting canon).
As someone named Miles, I’ve heard the kilometers joke more than uncle Ben has died
WTF i got goosebumps from a video essay that went so hard at the end there 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
8:30 people talking about spectacular spider man was the reason I left all social media lmao
it's ridiculous how good the end of this video is
14:42 i am so glad someone else noticed the TLBM similarity
That ending was sick as fuck my man
I love your video. The last few minutes also genuinely gave me chills as you tied together the messages this incredible movie clearly tries to convey in such an impactful and universal way. Amazing work, thank you for making this!
Yesssss Troy’s confirmed it, you love to see it! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
