Weirdly, I think I’d enjoy FLASHPOINT more if Ezra traveled to the Arrowverse for a team up with Grant that served as the end of the Arrowverse and a James Gun DC reboot.
And that would help certain actors who want to keep doing their character in the arrowverse move over to the new universe as well as certain actors from the DCEU carrying over. Maybe if the two universes were to merge somehow and that’s how we get the new one.
Could’ve been a better finale for the Arrowverse than what we got, like I’ve seen worse from the Arrowverse, and even just that show (looking at you Season 4 Iris), and I wouldn’t exactly say the finale was bad, but even still goodness gracious what were they thinking with that final episode?
The worst thing about the Christopher Reeve cameo is that Brandon Rouths Superman is canonically the same Superman as Reeve. If they wanted that version of Superman then they could’ve used an actor who’s still alive
Well he’s a version of Reeve’s Superman, Superman Returns took place in the timeline of Superman 1 and the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 where Superman 3 and 4 didn’t happen (at least yet since Routh’s return in the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths had him at least hint at Superman 3 when he said he’s not new to fighting himself after his fight with Tyler Hoechlin’s version), so Routh’s Superman is more like a variant of Reeve’s, I guess like Loki in the Loki show
Honestly at this point, I think the absolute best thing that James Gunn could do is do a completely clean slate. Start over from scratch, don’t carry anything over from the DCEU. Yes there are some redeeming qualities of the DCEU movies but if the DCU wants to move forward cleanly and successfully, then carrying things over from the past will just confuse audiences and muddy everything up
I want to see what they do with blue beetle and how they could bring him over, that is the one movie I was most excited for this year and I love Jaime Reyes
That’s exactly his plan, that’s why they even talked to Henry Cavill and relieved his role as Superman, even though he, himself (Gunn) loves Cavill as Superman. He’s going to (somewhat) retain The Suicide Squad 2 though and Blue Beetle if I’m not mistaken
@@dimitrescu182 And The Batman, those are all labelled as 'DC Elseworlds', since they are generally successful on their own. I mean, suicide squad didn't get a fair shot (I personally relate cuz lockdowns started again the day before I had planned to watch it in 2021).
@@MrAaron-br8un Blue Beetle was recently confirmed to be getting an animated sequel series, so it sounds like it's going to be retained in some sense if maybe not at the live-action forefront.
I think Keaton, while great seeing him again, is kinda wasted since it’s not really our version of 89 Batman and more of a variant due to the alternate timeline. Even though the director said it’s a continuation of 89 Batman, it didn’t feel that way to me. Also, something about having multiple Batmen and Superman but no Grant Gustin or John Wesley Ship feels so wrong. This movie should’ve honored The Flash character way more.
Yeah, for the first big Flash movie Grant definitely should've appeared, especially since he's still alive and you wouldn't need to CGI Christopher Reeve Superman and Supergirl.
Honestly frfr I loved how it disconnected just enough while still feeling like a part of the world, and doing its own thing. Final act fight not being for me aside, I love its dedication to relationships and individual struggles, and how that’s reflected in its fights. That bus fight was low scale and the skyscraper fight even smaller and those ruled.
This.. I mean, it's so tiring already at this point. This is why I SO enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick for it's simplicity and epicness in acting, storytelling, and plot. I really hope Superman Legacy is also just as simple about creating balance in life and identity in a quite similar manner the OG Karate Kid had w/ Miyagi teaching that lesson.
I loved Spider-Verse because [SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS] . . . . The whole conflict revolves around trying to save his dad. I was expecting a very cliche movie and not like that's some crazy unique twist but I was relieved to have personal stakes for the charecter and not just "Weah Miles you messed things up and now you need to fix the multiverse or everyone will die!"
Kara was such a great character with the tragedy of her situation matching her need to push for a better world and it feels like the movie’s screenwriters focusing on her arc would have crafted a better storyline.
Having us care for Kara & Keaton!Bruce would’ve made the impact of losing them stronger. We’d empathize more with younger Barry who repeatedly tries to save them.
@@PuriheartOfficial Sasha did a very good job and deserves more screen time, but the DCU needs a clean slate/total reboot. Sasha was unfortunately at the right place at the wrong time.
I want Sasha to stay too, ESPECIALLY considering that her journey and lenths she did with the role ALONE was impressive. There's no one I can imagine who deserve this role better than her
Idk the backstory, but I wasn't really convinced she was supposed to be supergirl. But I guess since it's an alternate reality, her being hispanic with dark short hair is whatever. But it wasn't really for me haha.
14:25 - this reminded me of Zeb Wells and Nick Lowe with current Spider-Man comics (and this is coming from someone who is VERY very much not a fan of those current comics lol, but there's a lot of hate being thrown around all over the place towards those comics to Wells alone when I think the problem might be not ONLY him but editorial and corporate Marvel)
Muccietti also had to work with materials that had been constantly reworked and rewritten to the point where the first script and the final one only shared the name and a character in commonality. He probably did the best with what he had and I think with brave and the bold where he will get to start from the ground up, it will probably be a better experience
A lot of this movie reminds me Spider-Man 3, kind of because it was marred with a lot of studio interference, but mostly cause so many baffling choices are made throughout the entire movie that it becomes mostly ironically enjoyable and entertaining with the occasional genuinely interesting choice that sometimes get me unironically invested in it. With that said, I'm still interested in what Muschietti can do when given creative control from the beginning and what the new DCU comes out as a whole.
The mediocrity and dedication to references and characters who aren’t the Flash in a multiverse movie is so funny to me. It makes Spiderverse look like a powerful fuck you response to Flashpoint even though it released first.
I had the same issue with this movie that I did with the Black Widow movie (which I really enjoyed, for the record) where it feels like the third movie in a trilogy that doesn't exist. Everything in this movie feels like payoff for setup that we haven't been given and we're expected to be attached to it. If we had gotten another Flash movie or two before this that properly set things up, THEN this movie came out, it might not have felt so hollow.
You know for a Flash movie, Barry Allen feels overshadowed by Michael Keaton's Batman and the cameos of every other superhero. I kinda don't mind a Flashpoint movie, but I kinda think that the film forgot that it was a Flash movie. I also remember people blaming Gunn for how The Flash turned out, citing how the reboot led to the cancellation of other future projects (notably Batgirl which was supposed to keep Michael Keaton as Batman). However, the film had long been finished before the reboot (and the only minor change is the ending scene of George Clooney Batman instead of keeping Michael Keaton as another alternate Batman).
The movie was riddled with problems but I did quite enjoy the movie we got and yes I wished it was just about Flash and him going on a journey against his villains, like The Rogues, Gorilla Grodd or Reverse Flash specifically. I do think the cameos while some questionable, did come from a place of genuine love for the past DC movies and tv shows that made fans of these characters today. I even shed tears when Flash said goodbye to his mother, which was probably the best part of the movie for me, even when I said to myself I wouldn't get emotional over this movie and for Ezra's Flash. Despite his crimes, Ezra does do a good job as a more mature Barry Allen in this movie, though that still doesn't mean I want to see him as the Flash for the DCU. Just cast someone new to play Barry or introduce Wally West. I hope the Flash has a prominent place in the DCU's future because the character deserves better content and representation of the legacy of the character than this film. Im personally hoping The Flash get a new rebooted movie that embraces the character as the noble and whimsical hero that he is who fights super-intelligent gorillas, bitter time-travelling rivals with super-speed and superpowered criminals with moral codes.
Wow, its almost like you can read minds. You pretty much summarized my thoughts on this. I remember when DC announced their original line up. The show was coming out, and the announcement of a feature Flash film got me stoked. Then, when Lord and Miller were announced to write the film, I was even more fucking stoked. The development-hell this went through flipped it on it’s back. There is a perfect Flash screenplay out there. This was just plagued by too much misfortune - Ezra, the idea of a reboot, the production itself - it’s truly crazy it came out. Like you said though, Flashpoint is overrated. Gimme Barry fighting a rouge, then rouges, then Thawn. That’s all. No big hoopla, just The flash stopping some baddies.
Given that both Black Adam and Fury of the Gods tried to replicate the Snyderverse’s success without that visoon, it is telling that the last really successful DCEU film involved Zack Snyder himself.
I dislike the Snyderverse, but I can appreciate it for having a director who actually gave a shit about the films he was making and the overall story he was building up to rather than crafting movies based on focus group screening and manufactured “the entire theater clapped!” moments.
You’ve sold me on Muscietti directing Brave and the Bold. I have some qualms, because I was not a fan of The Flash at all, but I think it’ll be pretty awesome seeing what he can do with his own interpretation of Batman since he was able to turn an iconic goofy performance in Tim Curry’s Pennywise and completely flip it with Bill Skarsgaard’s utterly terrifying portrayal of the same character. When was the last time that Batman himself was fucking SCARY on screen? Matt Reeves nailed aspects of that side (The Batman is a masterpiece) but I think with Andy’s creative freedom we could get a very fucked up duo of tortured Waynes who completely miss the point of being “superheroes” before having their own familial arc of becoming an iconic Batman and Robin. I have faith!
I think a better example of the wrongness of the CGI cameos is if they had put a CGI Chadwick Boseman to talk to Shuri in the Astral Plane scene in Wakanda Forever.
Having watched your content since the homecoming rewrite days, I had this weird relationship with ur channel where my teen brain couldn’t decide if I enjoyed your personality and content more, or if I hated your takes on one of my favorite movies. But something about it all even when I’d basically hate watch every new video I kept coming back, and as I matured and your content matured too I found myself loving everything about this channel. I enjoy your content because of the person you are, the care you put into it, and honestly you’ve inspired me creatively and personally. TL;DR I’m glad to have stuck around to see your channel grow, and I hope you know you got some hella loyal fans ❤
That was a great take on the whole mess. Very emotionally mature. We need to collectively get better at seeing a work is art and the people who make it as worthy of separate consideration along a variety of factors. It's all just so complicated
Why would Henry Allen's presence in the house stop the Reverse Flash from killing Nora? If anything, that would be even better if he wanted to incriminate him to mess up Barry's life.
4:33 my bro, he was not supposed to be Thomas Wayne at all. Many directors had different ideas for the flash movie, some of them were grounded comedy movies, when muschetti was tapped on it was his idea to make it a multiverse movie and bring back Micheal keaton, the script wasn’t written with Jeffrey dee morgan as Batman, it was always intended to be keaton. He wasn’t brought on to sell more tickets, he’s in the script to help the story
Am huge fan of Keaton's Batman i must say i mostly liked his performace. Mike is great as always and this Batsy is in very interesting place where he is alone and crazy old man that is very desperate to make connection with someone. Unlike Batfleck being friends at this point with Justice League. But i really don't like fanservise that screenplay gave him like let's get nuts. This scene in 1989 movie was great bc it was huge element of character creation. Now it's just "look he said it". And i have problems with how they handeled his ending. In my cinema they made marathon of Burton movies and The Flash, first two are still amazing, especially on big screen.
I think they should’ve done paradox for this movie. If you don’t know who he is. IN THE COMICS: Paradox is a scientist who during a battle between flash and turtle , an innocent bystander is sent to a realm outside space and time where he goes insane with rage and hate towards the flash and is mutated into a monster as he escapes to kill Barry. THIS could’ve been adapted using Barry’s time reversal in Justice League, teaching him responsibility. But no DC needed another Event Movie
Honestly thank you for this and for the end of the video. Recently I've been getting burnt out on "critictube" because everything is so aggressive and toxic and negative constantly. and although you had your problems with it you pointed out that its not something people should hate a director for. I enjoyed the film, the first act was kinda weird for me but after that I had an enjoyable experience. I wouldn't come anywhere near to say its the best cbm of all time or even in the top 10 I do think there were some pieces here that I really enjoyed. You can criticise a film without insulting the countless artists who worked on the film, and it seems so many people have forgot you can do that. You can point out flaws you see in the film without insulting the fans of said film. I've been struggling with depression and suicidal ideation and seeing the few films i can enjoy being shit on so viciously kinda ruins my mental health. but I really like your reviews and ideas because you understand its not black or white. A "Bad" movie can have good bits and fans and a "Good" movie can have flaws and issues you can point out without insulting people. I hope soon that I can make more positive review content, that might be what I want to do, I know negativity gets views and clicks.. but I would really like to make a small little corner of the internet where I can talk about things I LOVE instead of constantly talking about stuff I hate. And hey, if i can make some people less toxic, that's a win. So thank you for your awesome video and your awesome face. You're an inspiration
You are right, there is just way too much cynicism floating around the movie critic space. Instead of being able to just list the issues they had with the movie, they resort to calling it a hot mess or pure garbage meant to pander to the lowest common denominator. It feels less like genuine media criticism and more like just dogpiling on a movie for views
@@kbreezy1581 exactly right People can dislike a film for any reason they want to But when they make countless videos just saying "the worst film ever made" or "the ugliest film ever made" They're either coming at it from just pure cynicism to be cynics or they're getting on a bandwagon that could get a lot of views. I get some titles need to be provocative to get people to click on it, but some of these titles aren't even exaggerations compared to the video. People can dislike or like whatever film they please But it's when you start insulting the artists and the fans is when I think it goes more into "I'm just angry cause I like complaining" territory. There will always be more critical or cynical people in media consumption, my main issue is how mainstream it is now. Being negative gets you the views
My hope is that in James Gunn’s DCU, our introduction to the character of The flash is a little movie called The Flash: Rebirth, which will reintroduce this character to the audience and will be a FLASH movie not Batman: Flashpoint
I get a of people want the reboot to skip to Wally, and Wally is a great character, but for me Barry Allen's Flash and his world I feel deserves a proper adaptation first. I mean how many actual Flash characters were in this new film, from what I hear not many, that's partly why I didn't see it. Granted the New 52 run was kind of my introduction to comics as a whole and made Barry's Flash my favorite superhero, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but at its best even the show which gave Barry nine years worth of material I felt missed the mark with a lot of aspects by giving him a team, how they handled his villains, among many other things. If this DC reboot is going ahead I really hope it's with a more pre-established universe from the start, I hope we get a Barry Allen who is more mature, has his rogues and has Wally as his sidekick. An aspect I feel isn't focused on enough is the contrast between how Barry presents himself as the Flash in contrast to how dark a lot of his past and personal life is, he doesn't pull a Bruce Wayne and let all that consume him and have his hero persona reflect his own trauma, and I've always liked that. In that sense he's always felt a bit like DC's Peter Parker to me, he feels like a very humble hero in spite of his insane powers, he's optimistic and pleasant which a lot of writers mistake for quippy. I think that would really come through if he had Wally as a sidekick, really show how defined each of their characters are and then later down the road they could really earn his death and Wally claiming the mantle. The mentor aspect I think would fit Barry really well in a film.
I ended up going to Andy Miusccietti IDMB page and looked at his flimograpphy. Apparently he was a executive producer for Lock and Key season 1. Which I love that series and the fact that no one involved with the show ever screamed out "Look how diverse our show is". Instead Lock and Key went for such a subtle feel that most would just forgot about the cool gay uncle.
I think the portrayal of grief was really strong to me. The emotional through line and theme of the movie really struck me hard and hit home in a lot of ways that a lot of superhero movies aren’t able to. I get all the behind the scenes stuff going on and all the problems with cgi, but the writing on display here is exactly what a comic book movie should have. The scene with Barry and his mom really really worked for me and was really powerful for me to watch as someone who has a lot of grief and wasted time with my own mother and family problems. I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as everyone is saying and I think for a younger audience it is a very good movie if not a great movie to touch upon grief. Edit: my father died when I was 15 and superheroes have always been my go to to feel better and to feel like I belong and like I am strong when I know it’s impossible to feel that way. I personally don’t think guardians 3 or spiderverse were nearly as good at depicting similar themes. While both of those movies are better than the flash, I don’t think they hit me nearly as hard as the flash did so I think it’s a personal thing. The Michael Keaton character I think actually really heavily tied into the movies story. So did the cameos. The idea is that the past is the past, you cannot relive it as much as you want to and I think cheap fan service actually pushed that theme harder than if the cameos were normal. These characters are relatable and memorable to people older than you and I. There was absolutely no way that you were born in the 80s or have any kind of connection to Keaton or reeves the way that the people producing the movie probably do so it probably feels more like fan service to us than it would to someone who actually grew up with the character. Everyone I know over the age of 45 loved this movie and thinks it brought them back to a simpler time.
Honestly, i would have liked to see a Version of the Jsutice Legue with Chris Reeves Superman, Linda Carters Wonder Woman, Christian Bales Batman, Ryan Rynalds Green Lanturn, Eithor John Wesly Shipp or Grant Guston Flash, Alan Richson Aquaman, and Ray Fisher Cyborg in one of the Chrono Bowls. Ik it wouldnt fix the problem of Dead actors returning and all, but thats a way they could have fit in like 6 MORE cameos then they did.
Im ngl with Andy being a horror director at heart and the new DCU Batman having a established bat family a death of the family adaptation with the cut up joker face and all would be a really entertaining movie to watch
you wanna know something dark? the movie came out 64 years to the day that George Reeves committed suicide. so I felt really icky seeing his superman appear through soulless god awful cgi.
The movie was okay IMO. I don't think it was good or bad, but I did have issues with it. Barry's final decision means that he learned nothing from this whole experience and KINDA undermines the point of this storyline but I understand they probably wanted to give him a bit of a happy ending. I'm also not the biggest fan of the writers' decision to make the kryptonian invasion a pivotal part of the story especially because they didn't use the opportunity to recontextualize ZOD as a character or add on to his character. He was kinda just there for fan service and michael shannon didn't even look like he enjoyed being there. Although I liked Sasha Calle in the role, I was indifferent to the supergirl character. She felt more like a plot device than an actual character. There's a lot more stuff I had problems with but overall it was still an enjoyable experience. I'd say wait for the digital release
Even though I did enjoy the Flash movie (faults and all), I really wish we could’ve gotten a proper Flash solo movie!!!!! As a MASSIVE Flash fan (whether it’s Jay, Barry, Wally, or Bart), I have always wanted to see a movie (or a series of movies) based on the Flash and his mythos! I would’ve loved to see Flash’s origin, Barry being with Iris and developing that iconic relationship, Barry maybe training Wally or even meeting Jay, Bart, and other speedsters and key players in the mythos. And also definitely Flash go up against the likes of Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, or Reverse Flash! Unfortunately we are living in a time when DC (and WB) believe in a time when Flash can’t stand on his own (from the show, to the Justice Society animated movie a few years back that was advertised as a Flash movie, and now this)! Also I really wish that they could’ve had Flash based cameos, from Gustin, Shipp, Gallner, Rosenbaum (get some footage from JLU and say that since it’s a different universe it looks different), hell even put in Haase since he was the first ever interpretation of Flash (plus for shits and giggles too) instead of random cameos that honestly left me a bit empty and a bit disturbed (especially the George Reeves one considering the backstory).
i’m really hoping this movie doesn’t ice the chances of another solo flash movie in the reboot for like 20 years i really love the character and hope we can get a comprehensive (smaller scale plz) flash movie sometime in the next decade or something hopefully
I just felt like the Keaton Bat is just too old to still have the cowl on. I don't mind him being there but I honestly want him to be hurt so badly that he either has a Kingdom Come-like suit or he becomes like a Batman Beyond Bruce.
Hey Troy, thanks for another great video. Would you ever do a video on one of your favorite filmmakers and why they're one of your favorites or a Transformers video?
That’s what felt wrong about it for me Even before all the controversy Why flashpoint? For the FIRST flash movie? With little to no universe/lore? Why not just make him fight rogues? Or just boomer Make him learn full extent of his abilities Maybe just tease the time travel at the end Leave flashpoint for the end of the trilogy
The problem is that people are tired of mid, relatively good movies that somehow always feel the same. It's not that the superhero subgenre is dying, but mediocrity being normalized.
This movie is the new josstice league a film riddled with production issues and like 78 different visions and drafts made into a frankinstines monster of a film
I know this video is a little old but, I love your content Troy, and that *is* partly because of your opinions on certain characters and storylines but it’s mostly because of you. How you handle your videos and put so much love and care into them is so refreshing on a platform that has become a place full of diluted content farms *cough cough Mr. Beast cough* (No hate to Jimmy, just think he might’ve changed the platform for the worse). And you always try and look at the positive side of things, no matter how trash an issue was, how bad the writing is, you always point out something awesome. You’re also just a really cool dude with great mustache and one of the nicest people on this platform. Keep going man, I love you dude.
The flash was a movie I somehow enjoyed more than rise of the beast for all the wrong reasons cause it was genuinely one of the funniest movies I’ve ever had the pleasure I’ve seen ,during that montage with the horrible cgi me and my friend legit started laughing our ass of cause how stupid it was
The reason they keep adapting Flashpoint is because it’s the only “Big” story the modern version of Barry Allen had. They’re dedicated to using Neo-Barry, who creates the Speed Force and is still hung up on his mom’s death. But there isn’t much to use there. OG Barry’s run wasn’t built on big stories, but on monthly adventures where they’d introduce new Rogues or super-science tricks. It was a different comics scene back then. The only stories that might be comparable are “Flash of Two Worlds” (more multiverse stuff. Though, maybe a better introduction to it), “Trial of the Flash” (infamous as a story that outstayed its welcome) and his death in COIE (which is, y’know, his death).
Dark Flash was meh, they should've used Reverse Flash in my opinion. Also the fact that Grant who was The Flash for 9 years and whose Flash gave Ezra's Barry the name The Flash didn't at least make a cameo was baffling to me.
My mate is the biggest flash fan and comic fan I’ve met , and gives DC & marvel props a lot of the time when it isn’t due… and when he said this film was mid that’s all I needed to hear 😂
No rush but just letting you know Troy I'm still hoping for an X-men pre write. Obviously im in my own little bubble but it feels like the X-men are underrated/not appreciated enough nowadays
When this movie was first announced and we found out it would be based on Flashpoint the first thought I had was.....wasn't this really REALLY early to be doing a reboot story? Keep in mind snyder was also going to do Flashpoint with the same idea of changing the timeline but by that point there was less than 5 movies released it was WAAAAAY to early to reboot
The Flash is the character that got me into comics more than 12 years ago, and so I share that disappointed feeling you have. I just wanted a good Flash movie with his supporting cast and one of his many incredible villains. The fact that we got a villain made up for the movie is almost offensive to me, considering how many amazing villains are in the comics.
i see us as polar opposites on many opinions BUT your videos always leave me with a new opinion and way of seeing things so thank you troy and keep up the great work!
I completely agree I love the flash as a character and I loved the series while it was good played by grant up until S4 then the writing became so bad but my pet peeves for this movie is I sat there asking why and are they intentionally turning Barry into a stupid person the scene when batman died not only did they make a mockery out of Batman but super girl and The Flash powers as a whole they didn’t need to go back in time to fix what happened again you are the fastest man alive … just move faster than anything and be aware of your surroundings for this Barry being of age and experienced he was so stupid and let so many stupid things happen because plot and the end goal was nothing there’s no conclusions the film couldn’t of happened and it wouldn’t impacted anything there’s no real consequences to any decisions made
My favorite part was how the Flash didn't fight anyone until the third act. When I heard they were making a Flash movie about the Flash the first thing I said was "man I hope Batman gets all the big action scenes for the first 2/3's of this Flash movie"
I relate to your struggle of being scared that your opinion will be strewn the wrong way and it making people turn against you. That happens whenever I write a book or do a script and most of the time I give up because I want to do my very best and make an amazing story. Hope you’re doing okay and that you know that I watch your channel cause I like listening to you.
Ayo, even as a Man of Steel fan, the callbacks were kinda eh. Michael Shannon felt like he was just sleep walking through his performance (I dont blame him), the final fight’s location was just bland and Zod and his cronies couldve EASILY been replaced with anything else. Sasha Calle as supergirl was fuggin cool tho, and I would love to see more of her.
I feel like there were two other things that hurt this movie: 1. How Warner Bros./DC advertised it and 2. Its importance to the future DCU. I remember hearing about reviews that were hyping it up and calling it “one of the best superhero movies of all time”, so it makes sense that something that was far from hitting that bar set by the advertising wouldn’t do well. Another thing is that this movie, as far as I understand, is the genesis point for the DCU, so since it’s such a big event in THAT regard as well, people might’ve expected a better film and were disappointed.
i dont agree with all your opinions but im still here supporting to hear em out man! dont trip out because some turbo nerd didnt like your opinion on mcu spiderman, you got my love and appreciate man! keep it up❤
To fix the Flash cameos Replace: George Reeves - Brandon Routh as Superman Christopher Reeves - Tom Welling as Superman in the last shot of Smallville Teddy Sears Copy - Grant Gustin in the Speed Force Nicolas Cage - Henry Cavill I feel like those cameos would make more sense, I’d leave Adam West as Batman just due to how iconic he is and it was repurposed footage, people who were watching this movie probably grew up from shows like Smallville and the Flash, Superman Returns was around during Smallville’s times so people may have watched it, even though Henry Cavill wasn’t a great Superman was him for a while and the move should have at least paid respect to him
Although I know the film has a lot of flaws and external factors that go against it. I adore it and the reason I adore it is a little complicated. I love that Grief is the villain without going to a lot of detail, my wife and I within about 90 days lost both of our fathers hers to a battle with cancer. Mine was arrested for a heinous crime and so the grief that Barry goes through in this film is a very specific brief that I and my wife know all too well and with how each of us process that grief. I have experienced a lot of loss throughout my life growing up and so I process it like I would the flu. It sucks. I hate going through it but I know what my body is going to do and I just ride it out but do a week to it. Sometimes I'm very similar and that way to Barry one in the film and my wife who Never experienced any kind of loss. Growing up at all. Was hit with it all at one time. Could within a couple years lost her dad, my dad and uncle an aunt her favorite grandmother and two close friends. How she handled her grief It's very similar to barry 2 she never experienced any of it growing up and was bombarded with it all at one time and was expected to process it in a healthy way and she couldn't. How could she? That's something you You learn about yourself over time. So seeing Barry 2 has never experienced any loss be hit with almost losing barry 1 in the lightning strike was a glimpse of that He has no idea how to process this And so you give a person who's never experienced loss and make them be bombarded with all of the loss at one time and that person the ability to go back in time to try to fix it means that they're always stuck in the stage of grief of denial. And something about that hit my wife and I so hard that this silly comic book movie ended up being a healing experience for us both. On top of that Batman is my favorite fictional character of all time in this movie happens to have my two favorite Batman in it doing awesome Batman things while also showcasing their own grief that I always related to and turning that trauma into something positive. So I loved the film. I apologize for the ted talk but hope it's a different perspective outside of some of the narrative in and out of the film that I took away from it and why I feel it's special.
I must say I’m curious as to what andy’s the brave and the bold will be as I thought the two Batman’s where pretty good but my biggest gripe was they where cool but both felt like they where just there. I think Andy has potential, especially with scarecrow if he uses his horror knowledge, also I really hope Ezra gets replaced, they where good in it but superhero’s are supposed to represent hope, Ezra is not that, the new flash should be either grant gustin as he needs a good script and hood cgi, his acting is already brilliant but I can understand that some people would want a recast I wouldn’t mind it either so I’d say Lucas till
To be honest, I’ll probably wont be watching this movie in the near future. I didn’t love, but I didn’t hate it. But if I was to watch something from this movie, it would be 👇(SPOILERS)👇 1. Batman punching russians. 2. The Batfleck-motorcyle-chase. 3. The flashback-scene with the football-flash-suit. 4. The baby-in-the-microwave-sequence.
Yeah.. not sure why they didn't use Brandon Routh considering hes the Reeve version of Superman. That being said I'm pretty sure in the Crisis On Infinite Earths cw event the BurtonVerse was destroyed amd then restored at the end of it. DC multiverse in live action to me seems way too overused comapred to Marvel.
I probably would have seen it if we saw Thomas Wayne as Batman instead of Keaton I think it would have been better if it just ended with Barry having that final goodbye to his mother no George Clooney no anything just end it with Barry fixing things and running off into the sunset so things don’t get confusing
Get it…
Because time travel.
When’s the Green Arrow movie prewrite TROY!!!?
Meh.
Maybe try explaining it one more time
you're a funny guy, boi
Pretty slow movie
Weirdly, I think I’d enjoy FLASHPOINT more if Ezra traveled to the Arrowverse for a team up with Grant that served as the end of the Arrowverse and a James Gun DC reboot.
What a missed opportunity because coincidentally, the Arrowverse and DCEU both end in 2023.
How many people know he’s supposed to be the same one though?
Well he’s a version of Reeve’s Superman, Superman Returns took place in the timeline of Superman 1 and the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 where Superman 3 and 4 didn’t happen (at least yet since Routh’s return in the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths had him at least hint at Superman 3 when he said he’s not new to fighting himself after his fight with Tyler Hoechlin’s version), so Routh’s Superman is more like a variant of Reeve’s, I guess like Loki in the Loki show
Guys I think he didn’t like The Flash

Honestly at this point, I think the absolute best thing that James Gunn could do is do a completely clean slate. Start over from scratch, don’t carry anything over from the DCEU. Yes there are some redeeming qualities of the DCEU movies but if the DCU wants to move forward cleanly and successfully, then carrying things over from the past will just confuse audiences and muddy everything up
I want to see what they do with blue beetle and how they could bring him over, that is the one movie I was most excited for this year and I love Jaime Reyes
It looks like Gunn is rebooting everything except The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
I'm just tired over how the fate of the world/multiverse is at stake. I was more invested in Shang-Chi due to his messed up family issues.
I loved Spider-Verse because [SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS]

The whole conflict revolves around trying to save his dad. I was expecting a very cliche movie and not like that's some crazy unique twist but I was relieved to have personal stakes for the charecter and not just "Weah Miles you messed things up and now you need to fix the multiverse or everyone will die!"
Shang-Chi was good but it wasn't anything super, never understood the hype
But even shang-chi forsaked its familial stakes for an end of the world monster plotline in the third act
Kara was such a great character with the tragedy of her situation matching her need to push for a better world and it feels like the movie’s screenwriters focusing on her arc would have crafted a better storyline.
i mean its doing what the comic did with superman he barely did anything in the comic its the same for kara
She(Sasha's Supergirl) was going to get her own movie, before it was cancelled
Totally agree. More focus on her would've considerably increased my enjoyment of this movie and her character
Eh, I could take her or leave her. I'm sorry, but she wasn't on screen long enough for me to get invested.
They should’ve let me be the Flash. I’m also nonbinary, I would do it for way less money, and I’ve Ezra Miller’d far fewer people.
You look even less like the flash then Ezra. But I'm sure you're not as much of a looney tune.
I honestly think if James Gunn is forced to cast Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, that he'd kill off Barry and bring in Wally to be trained by Jay Garrick.
Nail on the head brother, wish the movie allowed Flash to stand on his own in his own movie, he deserved better
My main problem is that Ezra doesn't feel like the character of Barry Allen, and that sucks because the Flash is my favorite character.
exactly, this isnt Barry Allen, he never really was. More like impulse or someone like that but worse
Do you know who his acting reminds me of when i watched ?... he acts like and talks like penguin of Gotham
Fax
Cough cough The Suicide Squad
@@monkiking778The Suicide squad is better
@@DoctorHooligantrue but it didnt involve snyder
I dislike the Snyderverse, but I can appreciate it for having a director who actually gave a shit about the films he was making and the overall story he was building up to rather than crafting movies based on focus group screening and manufactured “the entire theater clapped!” moments.
I have a feeling Blue Beetle would actually capture us properly than what the Flash was supposed to be
You’ve sold me on Muscietti directing Brave and the Bold.
Man, to think the last good piece of Flash media outside the comics is Flash Season 3 is sad
Why would Henry Allen's presence in the house stop the Reverse Flash from killing Nora? If anything, that would be even better if he wanted to incriminate him to mess up Barry's life.
Can’t wait to see them adapt Heroes in Crisis! Thats the next epic flash story right?
13:31 just a series of some of the absolute best takes I've ever heard. Top tier video.
I think the flash fighting the rouges would have been a more interesting story
I thought the ending of Flash was a George Clooney Nespresso Ad
I was literally thinking to myself “man I should really read more flash comics” when you said this 8:54 thanks for the recommendations!
9:08 what you said here is almost exactly like the original Flashpoint comic which is so unbelievably ironic it's crazy.
Almost everyone involved in this movie couldn’t have been more completely disinterested in the actual Flash character and property if they tried.
A "Bad" movie can have good bits and fans
and a "Good" movie can have flaws and issues you can point out without insulting people.
@@kbreezy1581 exactly right
People can dislike a film for any reason they want to
But when they make countless videos just saying "the worst film ever made" or "the ugliest film ever made"
They're either coming at it from just pure cynicism to be cynics or they're getting on a bandwagon that could get a lot of views.
I get some titles need to be provocative to get people to click on it, but some of these titles aren't even exaggerations compared to the video.
People can dislike or like whatever film they please
But it's when you start insulting the artists and the fans is when I think it goes more into "I'm just angry cause I like complaining" territory.
Can you do a rewrite of the film? I’d love to see your take on a better version of the story
Also I really wish that they could’ve had Flash based cameos, from Gustin, Shipp, Gallner, Rosenbaum (get some footage from JLU and say that since it’s a different universe it looks different), hell even put in Haase since he was the first ever interpretation of Flash (plus for shits and giggles too) instead of random cameos that honestly left me a bit empty and a bit disturbed (especially the George Reeves one considering the backstory).
i think the era of flashpoint adaptations should be behind us.
i’m really hoping this movie doesn’t ice the chances of another solo flash movie in the reboot for like 20 years i really love the character and hope we can get a comprehensive (smaller scale plz) flash movie sometime in the next decade or something hopefully
The “superhero fatigue” i really relate to, but have never been able to put it into words. Troy describes it perfectly!
the baby microwave image in the background made me burst out laughing.
These videos keep getting better. 👌
it would be so cool if the flash got an animated movie with the art style and aesthetics of spiderverse
also let wally be the main character for once
I think the "baby in the microwave" was Ezra's personal addition to the script...
You don’t gotta worry about us not liking you cuz of your opinions, you just a goofy guy and we love you
I just felt like the Keaton Bat is just too old to still have the cowl on. I don't mind him being there but I honestly want him to be hurt so badly that he either has a Kingdom Come-like suit or he becomes like a Batman Beyond Bruce.
I actually quite liked the idea of the Dark Flash, he should have been in the movie more tho
AAAAAAHHHHHH! Get it? Because there's time travel in it! Nice.
Hey Troy, thanks for another great video. Would you ever do a video on one of your favorite filmmakers and why they're one of your favorites or a Transformers video?
That’s what felt wrong about it for me
Even before all the controversy
Why flashpoint?
For the FIRST flash movie?
With little to no universe/lore?
Why not just make him fight rogues?
Or just boomer
Make him learn full extent of his abilities
Maybe just tease the time travel at the end
Leave flashpoint for the end of the trilogy
Watching The Flash after watching Spider-Verse is like eating a stale bag of chips after eating a 9-course meal at a 3 Michelin star restaurant.
The flash was a movie I somehow enjoyed more than rise of the beast for all the wrong reasons cause it was genuinely one of the funniest movies I’ve ever had the pleasure I’ve seen ,during that montage with the horrible cgi me and my friend legit started laughing our ass of cause how stupid it was
You can literally stretch out the JLU episode about the Flash Appreciation Day into a 90 minute film and it would still be a better Flash story.
The funny thing is even that episode has Batman envolved.
The only real gripe i have with the flash movie is the fact that they didnt give grant gustin and john wesley ship jr cameos.
I'd say it was good.
Love how you described guardians 3 at the beggining
Lol

Hey, guys? Where’s the pink Kryptonite?
No rush but just letting you know Troy I'm still hoping for an X-men pre write. Obviously im in my own little bubble but it feels like the X-men are underrated/not appreciated enough nowadays
I hate how nobody talks about Barry just reverse flashing a kryptonian near the end of the movie LIKE THAT’S NOT THE FUCKING FLASH🤦🏽♂️
Thinking about Lord & Miller’s Solo makes me depressed ngl
The Flash is the character that got me into comics more than 12 years ago, and so I share that disappointed feeling you have. I just wanted a good Flash movie with his supporting cast and one of his many incredible villains. The fact that we got a villain made up for the movie is almost offensive to me, considering how many amazing villains are in the comics.
7:44 the bagel effect
I'm excited to watch Blue Beetle as a Kamen Rider fan. That suit is fire!
i see us as polar opposites on many opinions BUT your videos always leave me with a new opinion and way of seeing things so thank you troy and keep up the great work!
I completely agree I love the flash as a character and I loved the series while it was good played by grant up until S4 then the writing became so bad
but my pet peeves for this movie is I sat there asking why and are they intentionally turning Barry into a stupid person the scene when batman died
not only did they make a mockery out of Batman but super girl and The Flash powers as a whole they didn’t need to go back in time to fix what happened again you are the fastest man alive …
just move faster than anything and be aware of your surroundings for this Barry being of age and experienced he was so stupid and let so many stupid things happen because plot and the end goal was nothing there’s no conclusions the film couldn’t of happened and it wouldn’t impacted anything
there’s no real consequences to any decisions made
My favorite part was how the Flash didn't fight anyone until the third act. When I heard they were making a Flash movie about the Flash the first thing I said was "man I hope Batman gets all the big action scenes for the first 2/3's of this Flash movie"
The cannon event for Flash fans is Geoff Johns bringing Barry back from the dead.
Let's have wally west as the next flash movie
Another thing is that this movie, as far as I understand, is the genesis point for the DCU, so since it’s such a big event in THAT regard as well, people might’ve expected a better film and were disappointed.
i dont agree with all your opinions but im still here supporting to hear em out man! dont trip out because some turbo nerd didnt like your opinion on mcu spiderman, you got my love and appreciate man! keep it up❤
To fix the Flash cameos
Replace:
George Reeves - Brandon Routh as Superman
Christopher Reeves - Tom Welling as Superman in the last shot of Smallville
Teddy Sears Copy - Grant Gustin in the Speed Force
Nicolas Cage - Henry Cavill
I feel like those cameos would make more sense, I’d leave Adam West as Batman just due to how iconic he is and it was repurposed footage, people who were watching this movie probably grew up from shows like Smallville and the Flash, Superman Returns was around during Smallville’s times so people may have watched it, even though Henry Cavill wasn’t a great Superman was him for a while and the move should have at least paid respect to him
Although I know the film has a lot of flaws and external factors that go against it.
It’s weird that they would have Teddy Sears’s Jay cameo, when Teddy Sears actually played Zoom impersonating Jay and not Jay himself.
8:48 That would be the multiverse/what-if scenarios getting mainstream attention
To be honest, I’ll probably wont be watching this movie in the near future. I didn’t love, but I didn’t hate it. But if I was to watch something from this movie, it would be 👇(SPOILERS)👇
This is the nicest bad movie review I've ever seen
That's a pretty refreshing change of pace
I probably would have seen it if we saw Thomas Wayne as Batman instead of Keaton I think it would have been better if it just ended with Barry having that final goodbye to his mother no George Clooney no anything just end it with Barry fixing things and running off into the sunset so things don’t get confusing
