I remember hearing that the acr viper tires were so good, competitors would cut up or massage their vehicles to run them to get an edge. Vehicles such as Camaro, Mustang, Corvettes, etc to the point where a racing organization had a bonus winnings if those who compete in same class as the acr without using its tires.
@@0Heeroyuy01 In 2016 they did a test with a 911 gts a Viper acr, and a mclaren p1 and a vette z06, the viper beat all 3 in acceleration top speed and cornering grip. The vette put up a good fight but it really cannot compare to a v10 or exotic supercars.
@@noahgould9321 nether me nor the OP say a specific year. i thinking spacifically the C5 giving the viper of that era a run, the C6 giving that era viper a run, idk about the C7 im not that big of a vett or viper fanboy to follow them
One of the greatest machines ever built. It’s refreshing to see people finally appreciating the Vipers greatness it just sucks it’s after the car has been discontinued. I remember when no one cared about these cars even after the 5th Gen ACRs release. It was confusing to see why a car with such amazing potential, and lineage being talked about so little. Regardless it’s going to be memorable as one the greatest analog cars ever built. Long live the great Viper!!!
I'm primarily a Corvette fan, but I love the Viper. Wish they wouldn't have killed it off, I liked the friendly competition between the two models. With prices getting this ridiculous I'll probably never own a Viper, but I'd love the chance to drive one!
Finally someone else says it. I've been a corvette fan since I was 5 but have always respected the viper for being competitive to use. It's like an edgier take on the American sports/supercar for the corvette to run against. Now we have to tangle with McLarens and Lamborghinis (no problem there) instead of anything really domestic. It's sad that the snake is gone now.
The stallenlatis ceo did confirmed that both next gen challenger and Charger are in the works during the E-muscle event, and he was asked about the Viper return and he went mum on the subject leaving the scenario as ambiguous.
In 1999 I worked at a Chevy/Mitsubishi dealership as a parts manager. One day I saw a guy buying the new Corvette so I went over to talk to him in the parking lot while waiting for it to get detailed. He told me it was for his wife, I was like what, wtf do you drive? Pointed his thumb over his shoulder and his Viper was sitting right there. I was like ahhhhh, got it lol
Appreciate your thoughts, but the Viper is a hideous looking car. Cars that are beautiful and perform awesome tend to stick around. This one was only one of the two, hence it was discontinued.
As an owner of a Viper and an SLS AMG this was one of the better videos on the Viper. I liked the history - well done, brief, and accurate. Gotta' love Bob Lutz. Viper prices are skyrocketing as they should. You can have your Vettes, your Porsches, your Lambos - you can have your Ferraris and their rediculously inflated prices and maintenance. There will never be anything better, price vs performance, than a Shelby Cobra or Dodge Viper. Great Video!
Tis true, it’s more of a realistic dream for a dream car to have a dodge viper ACR. But if price didn’t matter and I could choose any car? Porsche 918 spyder. What a incredible vehicle.
I have a 1993 and a 96 Viper... Still in their carton from Hot Wheels as what I thought was going to be the start of me collecting Hot Wheels. came to find out they manipulated the "collections"
Need for Speed franchise introduced me to the Viper and host of other cars. Regardless of performance, nothing beats the look of a Viper. It's mean. It's iconic. It's a beautiful car.
I was a kid in the late 90s and loved all things Ferrari. Posters of the F40, F50, F355 adorned my wall. When I got older, I had a coworker who owned a Viper. Knowing it was the main competition in my arguments with friends in school, I knew it was THE American supercar in the 90s and couldn't believe he had one. I'd seen maybe 2 in my entire life. He took me out one day and got on it hard and I knew right then I had to get one. The speed, torque and pure driving experience was just crazy fun. Needless to say.....I'm now an owner of an early gen Viper and don't think I'll ever sell it.
“Dodge of all company’s”!!?!? Are you joking? Dodge is known the world over for muscle and performance cars, their known for putting big powerful motors in everything. SRT is their performance engineering department and any car company with a dedicated performance department takes building cars seriously. Dodge is one of the few who doesn’t care and just wants car enthusiasts to have fun with their cars. They have drag cars you can buy they have a 1000hp crate engine you can buy they have Mopar where you can buy any performance part you want for your car. Dodge IS the company.
@@JL-rx7ou I'm sure it does take corners well for its size but so does my Lincoln MKS but both are so heavy at 4300lbs+ they aren't going to compete with sporty cars like Corvettes, Vipers, Mustangs, and Camaros.
@@XxViciousxX I’d say for its size it handles great, idk about your Lincoln I never drove one but in track mode it feels smaller then it’s size suggest. It depends on what Camaro, if it has the mag suspension with the 1le package then no the camaro will handle a lot better but if it’s just the regular on that comes with it idk it might be closer
Best looking engine on wheels ever made. Fell in love first time i saw the original, and they more or less never changed the original raw appearance. For me, if i ever get to own one, it'll be the blue one with the white stripes. Best thing coming out of america since ww2.
@@kennethbower6040 they weren't comfortable. But they were designed from the onset to be balanced to they liking of professional racecar drivers especially the Gen5 ACR. I've never heard professional drivers gush so much about a road car than they did the Gen5 ACR. It's just pretty awfully compromised as a road car.
Worked at both TRW Steering and Suspension plants. Viper used a Power Rack and Pinion steering gear with a tuned hydraulic valve that was designed for a Dakota. Dodge brought a prototype Viper to our plant in Rogersville Tn. We were allowed to drive the car around town until the local police came to the plant and shut us down.TRW Rogersville manufactured the components to build the gear. TRW assembled all the steering gears at there Marion Va. Plant until the program was shut down.
I was always a big fan of the 96 GTS, just Iconic as hell. Until you get up close to the 3/4 gen you truly dont get to appreciate the aggressive lines on the car, compared to the bubble that is the 1/2 gen. The 5th gen rectified the bubble and brought on sharper lines. Im glad I bought my 3rd gen, its a fun raw experience of a car.
I was fortunate enough to see a Viper club all leaving at the same time including start up probably around 20 years ago and i still remember it. They are awesome
I was sitting at a gas station in Knolls, Utah at 1:00am when a Viper Club rolled in. Thirty Vipers at one time-OMG. It’s all I talked about for a month.
Growing up in Carteret NJ i had a neighbor from Hawaii nice guy but we never even said hi to each other but I was 7anyway that was 95 96 1day he pulled up in a brand new targa top? Yello viper the only 1 I ever seen in person besides car shows n the track I would just sit in my yard and stare at it wen he would take it out the garage watch him wash it but he moved back to Hawaii and took the viper wit him back in 99
Till this day Grand Turismo 2 is my favorite game of all time the car selection massive I remember trying to get a license and a test that took me forever to pass was driving the ACR Viper at Laguna seca I couldn't get around a car in a straight line without spinning out let alone all them turns especially goin down hill
Fun video! Thanks for putting it together. You asked to hear the story of the first time we ever heard about the Dodge Viper. I was a freshmen in high school and the eighth grader who lived next door (not a car guy) told me dodge was making a 10 cylinder sports car. Year was 1989. I told him he didn't know what he was talking about. Muscle cars were dead and there was no way one of the Big 3 would do that. I think of that conversation frequently, it was a humbling experience. I was obviously wrong.
I love the viper for its venomous approach and it’s ferocious engine sound. I first learned about the viper in books and it was a joy learning about one of the greatest cars ever!
I still have that poster of a blue w/ white stripe '98 Viper GTS on my wall from when I was a kid. The car that made me fall in love with cars. I HAVE to own one some day
I remember back in my college days, when a photoshoot was being done with the gen 1 Dodge Viper at the Football field. It was so mesmerizing to look at. It was the automotive version of a bodybuilder on steroids.
Yeah, the Viper is a car I'd like to have, but they're rare and the price is climbing. It sucks it was discontinued, but with gas prices the way they are, an 8.4 liter V10 doesn't sound appealing.
i daily drive a LS1 5.7 V8 and about 50 a week fill it up with my driving. if the price of gas is what your considering for a car then no offence this is a car you dont need b/c all it would do is site and slowly over time go down hill b/c it would never get driven.
It was indeed my dad's dream of owning one. So he bought one in 1998. Then a couple years ago I bought it from him. Now it is mine and I love the thing.
The first Viper I ever saw, and fell madly, deeply in love with was driving up Parley’s Canyon near Salt Lake City. It passed me doing about 100 mph. It ended up behind four lanes of semis doing about 40 mph. That is when I got to see it up close. Most beautiful car ever made-sorry Ferrari.
loved the video especially since my UAW local hand assembled every one of them but.... Chrysler didnt fail in the Gas Crunch because they couldnt afford to build small cars, they were just late to the game, having not read the economic indicators correctly or they discounted the impending oil crisis... in 1979 Lee Iacocca did NOT get a bailout from the United States. he and Chrysler got BANK LOANS and the US co-signed for them. big difference. BIG difference... in 1997 Chrysler was NOT in a financial bind, that required the 'merger' with Daimler Benz. Chrysler held $9 BILLION (with a B) in cash reserves and had a winning lineup of cars and trucks. Bob Eaton the snake, sold us out (the company). Daimler was supposed to share technologies and open markets in Europe to Chrysler product but after they took the cash to prop up their failing performances (the car, train, truck, and other products) in Europe they refused to share. they then took control of some of Chrysler manufacturing and engineering and tightened the purse strings. ever seen the interior of a 2007-2010 CJD product? when there was no more meat on the bones, Chrysler was sold off to Cerberus the investment company that knew NOTHING about running a business let alone an auto business. When Cerberus sold off or bought out enough people to put the company in dire straits, they unloaded the company nearly straight into bankruptcy. the Obama administration approved federal loans to Chrysler and GM, only after forcing GM to fire their CEO and requiring Chrysler to merge with Fiat. without those actions, Obama was right in bed with the senators who didnt want to help the companies out. how do i know all of this? i lived it as an employee (except the 1979 loan GUARANTEES. i was in high school)... great video on an amazing car though, thanks!
Small correction. It was two bailouts (At least), and the first GM and Chrysler bailout was OKed by the Bush Administration in early December, 2008, with more to be paid out in February 2009.
The ACR Viper was all about the ground effects for downforce, that’s what made it fast. The massive size tires didn’t hurt either. According to the car magazines it was hot, rode stiff, and was not very comfortable but it was fast around a track.
As a person who grown up around Japanese car culture and almost exclusively only love Japanese cars all my life, the Vipers (especially the GTS in blue with white strips) are still comfortably in my top 5 ever.
My first exposure to the Viper was in 1993 or 94 when I was a mechanic at Skip Barber Racing School. One of our customers had one and he would insist everyone drive it. He would leave the keys on the bar at the local watering hole so people could give it a test drive. We literally blew the canvas top off it. He admitted he didn't latch it correctly as he laughed about it. It was a wild ride.
Man…. I loved Viper so much, and then to see it unceremoniously shut down, and now the end of the Hemi…. I weep for the future of this “Stellantis” thing going on.🥺
I am a stone cold dyed in the wool Vette fan. However, the Dodge Viper is a MEGA BEAST that DEMANDS respect. It is by every angle a gorgeous car and looks as dangerous as it’s namesake. Corvette owners groaned when this car was introduced; not just for its amazing looks and performance, but also because it made them second guess their allegiance to their beloved Corvette. This car has a raw magnetism that has you panting at the fantasies that just looking at it can conjure. It truly is a wonderfully dangerous beast.
Surprised you didn’t mention the outstanding ground clearance these things are known for! My dad is trying to get one of every generation but the Gen V may have to wait a while
I first saw a viper in flesh at Bathurst in 1997 competing in a 6 hour endurance race. I'd always loved this car but they were very rare in Australia. A couple of years ago while shopping for a Monaro/GTO I went to look at a car and the owner turned out to be the guy I saw racing at Bathurst in 97. he still had the viper 20+ years later and gave me the guided tour and we spent the rest of the afternoon talking crap about cars while he showed me around his car collection .
Wow, now that's awesome! Hey pull an awesome burnout for me, I heard yall Aussies really know how to light up the tires out there! Mad props to yall having the Holden Ute out there too. Now that's a ride I wish we had here in the states! Hmmm, I get two Vipers and trade you one for a Special Edition Holden Ute perhaps?
i have to say. even though this video is almost a year old now. in the late 80's the lambo diablo was my got to kid dream car but as soon as i saw the 1st gen viper i had a new love
You know I cant really remember exactly when I first saw a Viper but I was very young. I was born in 88 the year it was conceived but when I saw It I knew then and there that I would own one one day. Its my absolute dream car. I remember telling my Granny, Pappy, Mom, and anyone else who would listen to the "hey look what I did!" or "look at when I learned!" child. Most people would say "oh that's nice" and move on. I watched every episode of Viper. got into so many arguments with my sisters to get in front of the tv and catch my show and won out every time lol My first ride in one was when I was a sophomore in college at a random car meet I just happened to drive up on. There was a guy there with my favorite Gen, a solid red Gen 2 and I yelled immediately "NEXT!!!" when I realized that guy was giving rides. I almost pushed the girl standing next to me out of the way when he pulled up for another round. I got in and it was exhilarating. I had never heard that V10 in the flesh before and amazing isn't the best word to describe it. We hauled ass up the road 3rd 4th 5th gear pulling hard and I saw waaaaay up ahead a cop at a T intersection and signaled to the driver and before I knew it he swung her to the right on a side street faster than I could blink and pulled a 180 back up to the end of the street. We sat there and watched the cop slowly turn left and as soon as he was out of sight he gunned it again going faster than the way we came back to the mall parking lot. I'll never forget that. I even met John Hennessy that same year at HPE and saw the Legendary Yellow Venom 600 that was on every cover of the car magazines I read on a lift being serviced. He told me back then that he was planning to make his own car which turned out to be the first Venom GT. He's even got a tuner school you can attend that was new back then too. I still don't have my baby yet but I most certainly will. This dream Ill never give up on.
I was 13 years old and insane about supercars, my dad was about to buy a new Truck at the local dodge dealer. I couldn't keep my eyes off the Red Beauty in the showroom. When it came time to sign the paperwork for the new truck, I piped in and demanded that the only way we'd buy the truck was if I could sit in the Viper. Of course, I got my way! I cried that day, as I did for this video today. Thanks dude, great work.
I fell in love with the Viper the first time I saw it, and I still think it's one of the best looking cars of all time. I would take a Viper over almost every other supercar because it's something I could just take home and stare at and never get tired of it.
dude the Viper is the sickest sports car ever , i remember when the viper first came to OZ (1st or 2nd gen) and was racing it destroyed everything on the straight but its flaw was its brakes they wore out every few laps and they needed to pit frequently to change the whole assembly it was quicker than changing just pads i think it won its debut but if not it certaintly left a lasting impression to the people that day nobody had ever seen straight line speed like that b4
1999 I saw the viper draped in the American flag. DuPont registry magazine.. I was 12. It’s been my absolute favourite car since. Always said I’d own a 96 b/w strips for my 40th birthday. I’m 36 and always have been working to see the dream will come true!! Enjoy your viper brother!!

I have an 835hp 2014 Shelby GT500. It's my dream car and I bought it 2 years ago. I briefly looked at vipers while shopping for my Shelby. Definitely cool cars.
My brother had a 96 GTS Viper with a little engine work done to it. 450 hp. He let me drive it one time and I let off the gas at 160. Terrifying and fun as hell. Blew through corners like it was on rails. He just sold it last year and made money on it. He had one of those Viper engine pickups too. Sold that a few years ago. Hes into antique Harleys now. I daily drive a 485 hp Challenger Scat Pack Shaker now. Always had that need for speed.
Yes it was Gran Turismo part one were I fell in love with the Dodge Viper .I wanted all the information about it. It is truly the dream car if I can get my hands on him in my lifetime the only one that I really want.
As a kid, watched Motorweek every weekend and had a subscription to Motor Trend. By the time the Viper was unleashed, I was at my 1st job waiting for the opportunity to see one on the road. Then, on one day, I see one pull into a hardware store across the street. I abandoned my post temporarily, and ran across the 3lane busy street, just to catch a closer look. Later on, I made my way to the Dodge dealership in town, again, to examine and study this creature. I made impromptu measurements, roofline lower than my bellybutton, rear tires that spanned from fingertip to elbow, the headlight alignment/level which utilized an actual liquid level. The design was something, that to this day still evokes emotion in me. Built two scale models, one the roadster, the other, the GTS. This car is the the thing and fuel of dreams for me....
I purchased my 2004 last year before prices went stupid, and man am I happy I did. I love driving it and it's nothing but a head turner. Fingers crossed I can snag a Gen 2 before prices get too bonkers. It's one of those purchases I will never regret, and I plan to hold on to forever.
When I was in the Army during the early to mid 70's, we had thousands of Dodge vehicles broken down. Some with less than 100 miles, some with more but less than 1,000 miles.
I had countless posters, and models of the Viper growing up right along with the Lamborghini Countach. When the GTS came out I was just in love and became my all time favorite car. Last year I was fortunate enough to bring home a 98 GTS and fulfill a lifelong dream. It’s just so mechanical, and raw. There is truly nothing out there like it.
It’s been my dream car since I was a kid. I’m 23 now and it’s still my dream car. I hope to own one in the next 5-10 years. Maybe one day I can even own the ACR variant
I always loved the Viper but I grew to lust over it with the show Viper. My stepdad worked on the show when it was being filmed here in Calgary. I had the opportunity to get a ride in the Viper "Defender" and it was about the coolest thing to happen to me to that point. I had a poster of the red RT-10 and a poster of the Defender model. Always thought that they should've made a version close to that, the "fangs" on the front end of the Defender really looked Viper-ish!!...and it was developed by Chrysler too
A fellow consultant poured his savings into a Viper back in about 2000, I think it was. Fine car. I rode, but did not drive, in that vehicle. Yeah, it would have been phun to own one. Just way too much money, though, and the insurance! Wow!
Hi, I live in New Zealand. I acquired a gen 3 viper about 4 years ago, It had been built for the race track only. The engine was destroyed so I got it cheep. Over 3 years I rebuilt it and returned it to the street. I have owned some fast cars, but the viper has to be the fastest. The best speed I got was 315 kph. I am a female marine engineer, I did all of the work myself including the machining work. I am 68 years old, I had I scare to many, so I sold it to a guy who took it back to the States
I love how ideal cars puts out less known cars, and say that they aren't well know, even though, after the video, alot of people are going to be looking for them.
My best friend had an ACR. It was an absolute beast. We were at a car show and a kid asked him if it had a Hemi. My buddy said yeah, I use it to start this V10.
This is my favorite car of all time! I'm going to buy one this year you are sooo lucky you have one! I wanna find a gts 96! Blue with white old school shit!
There was someone where I lived, who daily drove a blacked out Gen.V Viper. It was really cool seeing it around. Idk where it went now. Hope the owner and car is doing well
We’ve got a gold with black racing stripes, 2017 ACR on the showroom floor of our dodge dealership of the automotive group I work for. The thing is gorgeous, and when they turn it on to movie it off, if feels like the whole building is vibrating
I first found out about the Viper from the License test in Gran Turismo 2, Leguna Seca which as a kid I would forever call The Viper Turn. One turn on that track was brutal especially with the powerhouse that is the Dodge Viper and as a kid, constantly spinning that car out.
In Australia we drive RHD vehicles. The Viper was manufactured only in LHD. However, that fact did not stop a small Melbourne company performing the most amazing conversion on the RT10 and the GTS in the mid 1990’s. The company name was “Viperforance” . They did such a great job, Chrysler imported 30 RT10 & GTS cars for full Australian compliance conversion. The result was “better than the original factory LHD engineering!” A second Australian company named HSV also converted a number of Vipers for a private importer. I was lucky enough to own a a full compliance ‘95 RT10 in those days. It was a mongrel of a beast! The side pipes roasted the feet, the AC was useless, the wind buffeted about the cockpit like no tomorrow. I had to remove the rear glass to cut back the buffing a bit. If I had the rag top tucked away in the boot on any clear sunny day over 20C, I got nicely sunburnt and wind burnt at the same time. The tyres were deadly from a cold start and the 6 speed box automatically went from 1st to 3rd on cold starts. No door handles or exterior locks meant no parking anywhere outside after dark. I flipped the RT10 for a 98 GTS. The AC worked great, no more wind or sunburn, no foot frying, no stuffing around with a rag top, and I could lock it safely. Did I mention the extra 50 HP also? At the end of the day, I loved the RT10, but it was simply to crude to endure for anything over 100km dry or wet. The GTS was by far a better more “refined” package for what it was. By the way, when I bought RT10 in 97. Import duties, exchange rates, freight and the RHD conversion costs pushed the purchase price to A$180,000. The new 98 GTS was around A$250,000.
I luckily got a chance to drive the Gen 2 Viper once. It was one the best car experiences I ever had. I was excited, amazed and, quite frankly, scared for my life in that thing. It was also an incredibly pure experience. Truth be told, the thing felt like it might fall apart around you at high speeds but it was a great experience regardless.
When I was younger I had two wall length posters on opposite walls; red 1989 Lamborghini Countach and the blue/white 1996 GTS Viper. The first Viper I drove was a Gen 3 Copperhead and I was sold! I now own a Gen V LE GTS. Love it!
Bahahahahaha. Companies don’t discontinue “best looking cars ever” that also perform great. The Viper is/was ugly, and that’s why it no longer is being produced.
I designed the first Viper in 1985. And built it 1987 in my home garage St.Louis. It was a wreaked 1978 Corvette with the front body replaced with a 1974 E-Type V-12 bonnet. I drove it to work at 170mph and stirred it with my knees. And I still have it.
The viper is one of my favourite cars of all time along with the ac cobra, but unfortunately here in the uk there as rare as hens teeth and majorly pricey but definitely on the bucket list to own or drive one day 👍
I worked on the Gen 3 and 4 at SRT and to this day still remember "The Talk" in order to drive it. At the time in 2007 he stated that there have been 35 crashes, and 3 deaths to date. So straighten it then excel (ok dump it) it is my bucket list car. No cruise control so you listen to tpm instead. It is an exceptional vehicle. Oh, also the new drivers for racing came from corvette and were astonished that there were not many extra parts incase of breakdown.corvette had three trailers. Viper had one. They would do three races on one set of brakes, corvette new everytime.
Engine is still infront of the cockpit and with its weight being 52/48. It's not MR, it's still a FR, you can say it's Front-Mid Engined but never a MR.
@@youngrody2386 You don't have be so uptight. I only simplified the meaning, saying MR only so you could grasp the idea of where the engine sits. Besides, I don't like typing out all the crap I'd have to say to please the likes of you. 😩

Gran Turismo came out when I was 13. Totally fell in love with the viper. I've owned numerous V8 mustangs and a charger scat pack. But the wait still continues for the Viper I will hopefully someday own
1999, I was playing NFS:Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS1. I know I tried a bunch of different cars, but seeing that beautiful blue GTS with white stripes, I couldn’t resist. And OH MAN, did that thing just fly around the tracks. I knew I wanted one. Wasn’t until earlier this year that I actually saw one in person, and words just don’t do that car justice. It was just parked in front of a store, and it still was the first thing I saw as I turned the corner. It just had that kind of presence, no other car could compare. It might take me a few more years of saving up, but I’m still not giving up on my dream of owning one myself! I haven’t driven one yet, and I absolutely intend to before I die.
I was 18 yrs old I always heard of the viper never saw one till one day it found me. I was driving my new C5 and an old man pulled up next to me in his Red and white GTS. I throttled my C5 and the GTS's exhaust was so loud I didn't even notice that the light turned green.
I love the viper. I'm 34 and I remember when it first came out in the 90s. I also completely loved the tv series Viper. That's when I realized Ypu can turn a beast into a monster
Saw a club driving through the keys late 2021. Hundreds of them. I drive a truck, went from Cudjoe Key up to Islamorada that day. Saw em for 50 miles. Loved it
The TV show was what made me fall in love with this car. It's amazing how much I love this vehicle. To see it at different car shows allows me to reminisce and dream about owning one someday lol.
5th Gen Viper ACR is an absolute legend and it's sad to see it being discontinued. Considering how the car world is changing, it's kinda conflicting to hope for an electric/hybrid Viper or no Viper at all. I got to know about the Viper first time through random online surfing, it was a 3rd gen Viper. I love all the super cars but Viper is a name one can never forget.
One of the few Viper videos I’ve watched that’s shouted out my grandfather, Roy. There are two Gen 1’s in my family, hopefully a GTS some time in the future.
I think I may have first seen it on the TV series " Viper",cheesy a.f. but the car was so beautiful, it was love at first site! This has been my dream car since seeing, the next thing better in my eyes is the GT40. Nice vid.
i was one of the first people learning about the viper. in my homecountry germany there is a yearly publication called "auto katalog". a list of all cars models all over the world. in one year, i believe it was 1986, they had a special section about concept cars. i remember seeing the new gm full size style for the first time. it would not be introduced until 1991 in the caprice and 93 in the cadillac. the little boy i was back then found the styling super futuristic. among other very bold designs i saw a picture of what would become the viper. i very vividly remember thinking that such an outlandish car design would probably never make it to production. given that i had access to all cars sold over the world in the same publication that says something about the impact that car had on me. once i realized they would actually produce the car quite a few years later and it would be called viper my mind was blown
As a NERD I first learned about the Viper from Video Games (other than hearing the name occasionally.) Grand Tourismo specifically, where I thought it was a terrible car because I couldn't get it to go around the track (Brakes? Entry Speed? Those don't appeal to middle schoolers)
I first seen the Viper on the cover of Popular Science magazine. It was the prototype first shown at the Detroit auto show. I fell in love with the car, lusted over every generation, and finally about 3 yrs ago I picked up one for myself, a 95 RT/10. It is as sexy today as was 26yrs ago, a timeless design that doesn't age. I have people walk up to me all the time and say beautiful car, what yr is it and shocked to here it is 94.

Vehicles such as Camaro, Mustang, Corvettes, etc to the point where a racing organization had a bonus winnings if those who compete in same class as the acr without using its tires.
Wow thats awesome info!
idk about Camaros or mustangs, but the corvette easily gave the viper a run for its money.
and the Z06 has for years.

Long live the viper! Luckily we got a couple in the ideal stable we will be showcasing sooner than later :)
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching!
Listen. It’s the same as people. Most people only get recognized when they die🤷🏾♂️
@@IdealMediaChannel And I have one in my stable also. 96 RT/10 Black silver stripes. 10,000 miles.
You said it better than I ever could.
They’re naturally-aspirated masterpieces.
Not only is the Viper a great car, but the owners are also some of the nicest people I have ever met at a car meet.
There were patents that was connected to next gen challenger, Charger, cuda,Cuda, and Viper with both Hybrid and electric drive trains.
Great Video!
couldn't have said it better myself man! i hope you continue enjoying driving your viper!
Tis true, it’s more of a realistic dream for a dream car to have a dodge viper ACR. But if price didn’t matter and I could choose any car? Porsche 918 spyder. What a incredible vehicle.
They are both incredible vehicles, but the differences is the luxury factor. Well, and a few other key differences

I remember seeing more 1st gen cars wadded up on flatbeds than on the road. People just weren't ready for that kind of power.
And from what I'm told they were a very driver unfriendly and miserable..

Chrysler didnt fail in the Gas Crunch because they couldnt afford to build small cars, they were just late to the game, having not read the economic indicators correctly or they discounted the impending oil crisis...

in 1997 Chrysler was NOT in a financial bind, that required the 'merger' with Daimler Benz.
It's a shame, like VW, Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge products are of such poor quality.
I can confirm that it is stiff, hot af in the cabin, and not comfortable
That engine kinda helped too....
That car is still an absolute beast and I'm so glad it's a hundred percent American made
As a person who grown up around Japanese car culture and almost exclusively only love Japanese cars all my life, the Vipers (especially the GTS in blue with white strips) are still comfortably in my top 5 ever.

It was also an incredibly pure experience. Truth be told, the thing felt like it might fall apart around you at high speeds but it was a great experience regardless.
Love the viper and the thumbnail
That's Squidd's doing... he's an artist!
When I was younger I had two wall length posters on opposite walls; red 1989 Lamborghini Countach and the blue/white 1996 GTS Viper. The first Viper I drove was a Gen 3 Copperhead and I was sold! I now own a Gen V LE GTS. Love it!
One of the best looking cars ever! Like legit looks like what it was named after!
Bahahahahaha. Companies don’t discontinue “best looking cars ever” that also perform great. The Viper is/was ugly, and that’s why it no longer is being produced.
@@jrparker4804 okay there... Maybe they didn't sell as well cuz no one buys sports cars as much... Idk about it being ugly that's just your opinion
@@RabbitCarrots the viper is still at some dealerships only problem was the price and impossible daily driving
I designed the first Viper in 1985. And built it 1987 in my home garage St.Louis. It was a wreaked 1978 Corvette with the front body replaced with a 1974 E-Type V-12 bonnet. I drove it to work at 170mph and stirred it with my knees. And I still have it.
The viper is one of my favourite cars of all time along with the ac cobra, but unfortunately here in the uk there as rare as hens teeth and majorly pricey but definitely on the bucket list to own or drive one day 👍
One of my friends has a 2017 dodge viper ACR makes around 1000hp with its 6.8 liter v10 its scary asf to drive
@@thedaddyofstolenmemes8112 amazing car man I just wish we had more available here in the uk
Fell in love with this car growing up playing with hot wheels.
Was always my favorite dream car! Absolute tears with this happening 😢 😭 💔 😫 😩
I love how the Viper is actually an MR instead of being an FR. A keen detail to why it handles so well. 👌 My dream car honestly.
Engine is still infront of the cockpit and with its weight being 52/48.
It's not MR, it's still a FR, you can say it's Front-Mid Engined but never a MR.
Yep it's FM, engine behind the center line of the front wheel hubs.
@@youngrody2386 You don't have be so uptight. I only simplified the meaning, saying MR only so you could grasp the idea of where the engine sits. Besides, I don't like typing out all the crap I'd have to say to please the likes of you. 😩
@@KingDeadMan Lmao what are you soo worth up over?
Anyways just call it FR, it's wildy agreed upon by everyone to avoid confusion, besides people find misusing already established terminology for near indistinguishable techinicalities misinformative.
@@youngrody2386 Gen2 GTS Weight Distribution is F/R 46/54, not 52/48 🧐
Gran Turismo came out when I was 13. Totally fell in love with the viper. I've owned numerous V8 mustangs and a charger scat pack. But the wait still continues for the Viper I will hopefully someday own
The Viper is by far one of the best GT race cars ever
It's a supercar that's slept on and deserves more coverage! I love me a viper racing with a Victor Racing active wing! Thanks for this video!
Loved it
For sure, one of the most underrated cars ever
You're a Viper OG! AWESOME!!!! Thanks for watching!
Also, hope we got the name pronunciation correct!
@@travisjordan4288 Lol, yes. People don’t often get it right. Brownie points to Ideal Cars.
The dodge viper is the coolest car since it can go from 0 to your funeral in just 4 seconds!
I think I may have first seen it on the TV series " Viper",cheesy a.f. but the car was so beautiful, it was love at first site! This has been my dream car since seeing, the next thing better in my eyes is the GT40. Nice vid.
What a car the viper is 😍
i was one of the first people learning about the viper.
in my homecountry germany there is a yearly publication called "auto katalog". a list of all cars models all over the world.
in one year, i believe it was 1986, they had a special section about concept cars. i remember seeing the new gm full size style for the first time. it would not be introduced until 1991 in the caprice and 93 in the cadillac. the little boy i was back then found the styling super futuristic.
among other very bold designs i saw a picture of what would become the viper.
i very vividly remember thinking that such an outlandish car design would probably never make it to production.
given that i had access to all cars sold over the world in the same publication that says something about the impact that car had on me.
once i realized they would actually produce the car quite a few years later and it would be called viper my mind was blown
As a NERD I first learned about the Viper from Video Games (other than hearing the name occasionally.) Grand Tourismo specifically, where I thought it was a terrible car because I couldn't get it to go around the track (Brakes? Entry Speed? Those don't appeal to middle schoolers)
Hahhaa.. love the story my man! They aren't that much better IRL.. but man they are fun!
