    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      For figuring out what needle to use I use the SCHMETZ needle app, in their app they have an option for you to pick what kind of fabric you’re using and they will suggest needles for it. As for thread, I tend to lean towards for expensive brands because quality is going to hold your project together, I typically go with cotton thread for fabric with natural fibers and polyester for deceptive stitches and for synthetic fibers.

But all I can think she would use it for is repairing clothes or anything we happen to need re stitched. What got us here is my electric blanket started tearing down the middle and this would have came in very handy. I sewed a 12” long tear caveman style. Lol. • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct! Always turn the hand crank towards you, otherwise you will throw the stitch timing off which means eventually the machine will stop working. It can be fixed by a machine professional so all is not lost it is pricey though. Where I live it cost about 50% of the original price of the machine to fix it

    I can't see what you mean by the hook part for the bobbin. I filled the bobbin up, threaded the machine but the thread won't catch with the bobbin thread and I can't tell what you are doing with the bobbin because of your arm and what do you have the tension set to? Does it matter?

    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My tension is at a 4, that's what I keep it at almost all the time. When I drop the needle to catch the bottom thread I use the tail of the top thread and a pin or thread scissors to grab the hoop of the bobbin thread and pull it up.

    • @thetoolmat8632
      @thetoolmat8632 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think she may be asking about hooking the bobbin thread after dropping in the bobbin...if so, Teresa, after dropping in the loaded bobbin, and the thread is coming off the bobbin counterclockwise, or a P shape, on the bobbin shuttle pull the thread to the left and it will slide under a shiny flat part that hooks it...then just lay the thread towards the back and replace the cover... Then move in to the next step...

    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd recommend rethreading both the top and the bottom of the machine, make sure there's a needle in the machine, make sure you are turning the hand wheel toward you and not away from you, turning away from you will not catch and it will do long term damage to the timing of the machine. If it still doesn't work then I would send it in to get looked at.

    Hey, do you have experience with tweed material? I plan to sew Chanel-like jackets and skirts, but I've never used tweed material before. Is this a good machine for that, considering that tweed is hard and thick? Thanks in advance ✌🏻

    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen with a few different types of twill, this machine does fine with it as long as you have the proper needle and thread. SCHMETZ has a great app that allows you to search by type of fabric to figure out what needle you need and for thread I’d stay away from Coats and Clark and any polyester thread in general unless you are sewing a polyester fabric or trying to do satin stitching.

    Hey! I'm looking to buy this sewing machine but I'm fairly new, I have only done small projects like hoodies or fanny packs. I can't decide if I should go for the less expensive singer MX60 or this one. But I know I will be sewing through jean so I'm leaning towards this one, what do you recommend?

    Hey! I'm a beginner and I'm planning to buy this machine. I have a teeny-tiny bit of practice with industrial grade machine at my school but I couldn't quite manage the speed at which those machines sew. I know that this machine is very fast too but is the speed of this machine manageable for beginners? And is the foot thing very sensitive or is it easy to maneuver?

    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This machine isn’t nearly as fast as an industrial machine. The foot is easy to control just practice before sewing a project to make sure you know how much pressure to put on the foot.

      You can do free motion quilting on it, I think the foot for it was $20 I used it on my episode of Con Crunch Challenge and it's super easy to switch to and the machine is really good at handling several layers of fabric.

    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the side of the machine there is a wheel to make the needle go up and down, if everything is threaded properly you will turn the wheel towards you and it will drop the needle down, it takes a few times of dropping the needle to get it to catch the bottom thread. Once it catches the thread you can pull the bottom thread to the top and get ready to sew.

    • @CaseyReneeCosplay
      @CaseyReneeCosplay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would suggest press even lighter, you will start to get comfortable with the pedal and machine to be able to sew fast but if you want the practice you could always just take the needle out (for safety) and practice with the pedal without actually sewing anything just to familiarize yourself with the pedal. After awhile it will come natural to you I promise, I'm working with my 4th new machine in a month and it's been a lot of learning but after a smaller project or two it becomes muscle memory. You can do this I promise!

    • @hummingbirdlady11
      @hummingbirdlady11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If not already doing so, try going barefoot when using the foot pedal instead of wearing a shoe. Barefoot gives a better feel for controlling how much pressure is on the foot pedal.

    Can you use this to sew together an Ikea Poang chair slipcover from scratch. I found one in the street with an ugly faded slipcover so I went by Joanne's and bought some leather material but I am stuck at which sewing machine to purchase.
    One of my biggest regrets from the last marriage was I bought my wife a new 400. machine and she got it, the kids, the house, the cat and the sewing machine. She gave the machine to her following husband's mother and was unable to recover once they divorced. My daughters never learned to sew but that is not my fault.
    Obviously, I am going to also launch a fashion brand using the machine as my first write off for 2020. Masks might be a good place to start because I can take a loss for this year at worst.
