I have been wanting a canvas crutch holder and also a cover for my powered wheel chair. My wife hates sewing. I remember my Dad using my Mothers old Singer sewing machine to make a cover for the family fishing/ski boat, back in the 60's. With help setting up the sewing machine from Mom and a little instruction, Dad made an awesome boat cover. Well I decided if Dad could do it--then--so can I. As a man, I’m well familiar with sewing machines. My mother was a very keen sewer - clothes, furnishings, cushions, curtains, you name it. And she taught me. I’ve had my own machine since I was about 20. I have made my own clothes, but not any more - but any alterations I can do. My wife was amazed to find that I could do all that stuff when we first met 😂. I agree that sewing should be learnt by men too, by the way. 😀

This is one of the most thorough and informative videos I have ever watched. I have to admit, I was a little intimidated by the length of the video when I saw the time, but once I started watching it, I was so captivated and it was over (and I gained a TON of knowledge) before I knew it! Thank you for making this!
After much trial and error, I have found that proper threading of this machine, and especially, proper thread tension is critial for smooth and uniform stitching. Do not rely on just the numbers on the dial to adjust thread tension, because threads vary by size, thickness, weight and composition. You must actually feel the tension by pulling the thread through the tensioner to determine the correct setting. This is easy to do. Simply thread the machine as usual but stop just before putting the thread through the eye of the needle. Lower the foot, and then you can confirm if the thread tension is too tight or too loose by gently pulling the thread through the machine. This is an extra step that no one mentions, but will eliminate many thread problems.
I bought the sewing machine without manual book (was missing) but this video is telling me what to operate and really helpful thank you so much you explained very detail for the beginner like me.

I absolutely loved your video! The only part I had trouble understanding was when you fed the thread down by the foot area. But I will rewatch that part until I get it. I'm 67 years old and have always wanted to sew on a machine, I bought the Singer HD 4432 model. I haven't used it yet I'm still waiting for some supplies to get here, in the mean time I'm getting familiar with the machine. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!

I've been using sewing machine since I was a small child, and I was pretty much self-taught. I just got a singer heavy duty machine and I wanted to know some of the details about it. But I'm not a read the book type of guy, so I generally look for videos that are 5 minutes or less. This gives you so much more information than just how to use the machine. It's like hanging out with your best friend when they do a brain dump for you on their favorite topic.

I was going to get the 4423 machine which is in short supply so I opted for machine in this review, glad I did. I am going to start with a cross sling pouch to carry phone. My project is not a pattern so I will learn seam allowance and mock-up for final design. This is all new to me and will lead to projects which will pay for the machine & supplies. New hobby turned serious. Thanks

What an awesome little video for someone who never used a machine like this before, granted some of the close ups were a little blurry but give the woman the credit. Not bad for a one lady show. Im also a bit confused about the auto threader, although I suspect something is wrong with mine. It doesn't seem to swing forward to get close enough to the needle.Hmmm
Thank you! The threader on this one is a 2 stepper lol. First go all the way straight down, then push straight backwards which will swing the hook around and through the needle. And make sure the presser foot is down and the needle is in the uppermost position. Hope that helps!
Very well done. The written Singer instructions that came with the machine left me with some questions but this cleared them all up. It was a great help. I strongly recommend anyone with this machine to have a look at this first.

I was going to get the 4423 machine which is in short supply so I opted for machine in this review, glad I did. I am going to start with a cross sling pouch to carry phone. My project is not a pattern so I will learn seam allowance and mock-up for final design. This is all new to me and will lead to projects which will pay for the machine & supplies. New hobby turned serious. Thanks

I just bought my Singer Heavy Duty 4452 machine and was trying to adjust to the different ways to do buttonholes, etc. (I had an older singer without the automatic extras). I tried following the sewing manual (ooey!) and they I watched your video on how to use the automatic buttonholer and it was MAGIC!!! I am now subscribed to your channel and am learning so much. What an awesome little video for someone who never used a machine like this before, granted some of the close ups were a little blurry but give the woman the credit. Not bad for a one lady show. Im also a bit confused about the auto threader, although I suspect something is wrong with mine. It doesn't seem to swing forward to get close enough to the needle.Hmmm
Thank you! The threader on this one is a 2 stepper lol. First go all the way straight down, then push straight backwards which will swing the hook around and through the needle. And make sure the presser foot is down and the needle is in the uppermost position. Hope that helps!

Very well done. The written Singer instructions that came with the machine left me with some questions but this cleared them all up. It was a great help. I strongly recommend anyone with this machine to have a look at this first.

While checking the website for the manual I came across you and you have given the best in depth explanation I could have hoped for. I now know what all those little bits are for.
