- The EPIC debate! Heat Gun or Torch? Today we give our opinion cough torch! cough on which we prefer. Both have their pro's and con's, but which is best for you? We also discuss IR heaters and their roll in helping us slay the wrap game!
Keep in mind, we believe a torch is a more advanced tool since it can damage or destroy vinyl (or other parts) you are working with. IR heaters and Heat Guns are the safest tools, but may take longer time to get the job done.

Thank you for offering this info and showing the results to your followers. I personally have been wrapping vehicle, buses, semi trucks, bikes, dragsters, NASCAR, boats, parking garages, cranes and interior walls for 40 years (prior to Controltac with Comply) and I will say that the pro heat guns are the only way to precisely control the heat. Keep in mind that there is a science to vinyl wrapping different surfaces and surrounding temperature is also a consideration. As a winner of many awards and a national advisor/trainer that has used and mastered the art of any vinyl wrap on any surface, I have always come back to the 3M products due to their elasticized vinyl recipes and the comply adhesive and products for different surfaces.
I was fortunate to attend the 3M training classes in St Paul, Minnesota during the mid 1990s and the scientific knowledge provided was an absolute game changer to provide the understanding what will happen if an action is performed and to know the outcomes and how to prevent disaster before it even happens. Knowing the proper temperatures for post heating is essential in order to prevent lift on recesses and rivets to name a few. The pros will rarely use a torch unless it is absolutely necessary. I would like to know more about temp range for heat guns.
I had a wagner for 10 yrs or more and just burned it up taking paint and undercoating off so it was great for short runs but not for long ones… Then again I had it a long time.
Anyway, I’m now getting into vinyl because I like working learning new mechanical and creative things and I needed advertisement on my truck etc.
I do have multiple torches as well that I use mostly for metal and to finish the paint removal when the wagner failed but like you said there’s a time and place for each.
I will say I think it was easier with the torch.
You can see the flame and heat color changes where you can’t see air heat changes much if at all.

I have and use all 3 heat options. There is a time and place for all 3 like you guys showed. For the debate over Torch or Heat Gun, I personally prefer a heat gun, yes, the cord sucks ass and it takes a couple seconds to get hot, but I feel like consistency and more even heat is easier to control than a torch. I was taught with a torch but just was never comfortable with it. To each his own, but a heat gun definitely not a beginner thing.
Agreed! I think beginner was the wrong word for us to use; what we meant is that heat guns are easier to control and better for more overall vinyl applications than a torch. Thanks for your input, we look forward to interacting with you more on our channel!

Can i use of those small butane torch to tint my taillights? I dont wanna waste 300 dollars on a cordless heatgun and i dont have a power outlet in my apartment garage.
Have you seen a Milwaukee 18v heat gun? I think you would love it. It heats up faster than a corded one.
I got one of that, it's no way can use that to do a car wrap, and it's heat up very very slow.
those bernzomatic TS8000's (yellow buttons) are actually technically made specifically for MAP fuel, whereas the TS4000's are made for propane, with the ability to use MAP or camping gas (the green tanks)...so the 4000's can use all 3 with no issues at all, but those 8000 triggers are going to be super high heat with MAP, since they're literally made to use MAP gas and get the absolute most out of them...but they are like "backwards compatible" if you will as well...so they also can use propane/camping gas, but are going to be far "better" (which can mean so many different things since obviously these torches weren't created with the sole intention of wrapping vinyl....), so in the broader scope of use that would mean that they burn at a higher temp in a shorter period of time, while also being able to apply it to a very specific location at one time (while using MAP). So the fact that a TS8000 doesn't burn the other propanes quite as efficiently as it will with MAP is probably the winning formula that has gotten the fuels you use to create a wider spread with lower fuels on a trigger intended for higher temps....could maybe be pumping out more gas at a time w/o MAP, so somewhat compensating for the higher ignition temps it's used to? if that makes sense? either way, I chose to stay away from that trigger just since I assumed it would burn all propanes waaay hotter, but that's clearly not the case...i love my ts4000 though; it's great with all fuels across the board and pretty consistent, but I literally only use torches when my intention is to like "spot heat" something, for lack of a better term...whereas i'll otherwise stick to the heat gun since I just think they are way less touchy...idk, opinions, lol.

I have never use a torch, but I think its only better when You dont have acces to electricity to use a heatgun. And yes, it is much longer to get a heat gun over optimal temperature to heat a vinyl, but there is no point to hurry with wrapping, right?:)
Michał Wróbel absolutely! Most efficient is the IR heater if you have access to one. Each apparatus has its pros and cons, we need to work more often with heat guns.

Austin Ray used to be just Avery. But when you make seams or use knifless you always see the white lining on the edges. Next chrome project I am trying Hexis Superchrome, only used small amounts, but it is supposed to be top notch

It’s a great instructional, but the camera guy doesn’t know how to set up the lighting to show scratches before/after removal.
IR heaters will also give you a sunburn if you work in front of it... don't ask me how I know -_- lol
