A work light on the underside of the boom would be really convenient for rigging at night.
And a couple with magnetic bases so you can move them around
Yes to both of these ideas
We use the Milwaukee 2123-20 m18 on powerlines. It's expensive but worth it for remote control lighting.
The Milwaukee 2123 is a little cheaper if your looking to permanently mount it somewhere.
And an air compressor
Peanut out here jumping 5ft straight up in the air to get on that tire always impresses me.
Yeah, 54". I noticed that too.
@@NeoMK Haha, I was trying to figure out how high it could be, completely forgetting about the height of the tire that Matt talked about multiple times. Dumb. HAHA
Impresses my pup 2
@@NeoMK The tire was raised off the floor too.
Matt love your work and your build is awsome but please use eye protection always you only have 2 eyes and danger always lurking work in the hospital and you should see the kind of injuries that happens to eyes
It's good to know that Rory will be at the Offroad Wrecker competition to get everyone else's rigs home safely at the end of the day. 😄
😂😂😂
I thank Rory will take the win
@@kevenfultz9839 He's worked out of that rig for several years on a daily basis - so I think he definitely has the best chance.
The biggest thing working against Matt and Paul is that they'll be in 'new' vehicles that haven't had all the bugs worked out of them by....well, WORKING with them every day for years.
I know the event will all be in good fun and it's just gonna be cool to see everyone's rig out there doing their thing.
@@scrambler350 Something is gonna break on Matt's vehicle.
or it will run out of gas
I gotta say it was great to see Ed in the shop helping bend the rebar. Ed the off-road towing grandpa the internet didn't know it needed but appreciates greatly
I sure appreciate your editor. You can really tell that they understand the channel and the team. Good pacing. Good drop-ins. Nothing is over done or under underdone. Nice work!
Good job Tucker!
I'm liking the long, in depth videos of working on the wrecker. Best one yet.
Matt Merlins one of the best Fabrication/Mechanic you will ever meet good guy does alot for his community and definitely worthy of a golden ticket to the tow truck Olympics.
The shop shenanigans always crack me up. "my hammer and not chisel," "cant wait to ruin Tom's new speed square." Love it😂
I know right? and Tom: "whoever can pull the seatbelt mount from the stone will be crowned the next king of England"
All the time I think about the little girls watching this with their family and seeing Lizzy being strong and effective and creative at work and at play. Role model for the ages.
Lizzy is da bomb!
I honestly can not see a whole family sitting at the table watching this lmao this is what you watch when ur in the bathroom taking a dump lol
@@dylandgreene9147 even when there's a strong powerful brave fierce woman in it?
The obsession is real with her.
Lizzies welding skills have improved greatly. I worked on pipelines my whole adult life and those welders had a saying about their welding “ I can burn a circle around your nostrils and never burn a hair”. But they didn’t say nostril. I said that to keep it a family video. Good luck to you all .
Amazing how matt got those brackets made and fitted in first try :O
We just wanted to say we really enjoy seeing that young lady Lizzy doing that type of work and learning the towing and fabrication of the material thank you Matt and thank you Lizzy for wanting too learn very refreshing to see young people wanting too learn
One of the best wrecker videos ever !!! And a *BIG* thank you for *NOT* trashing it with music !!!😜😜👍👍👍👍👍👍
The fact that Matt and his team has built this magnificent machine in that small shop with basically a handheld plasma cutter and other hand tools is incredible. It's obvious Matt has had this vision in his head for a long time because the details are well thought out. I'm sure some of that is Tom Tom's engineering skills, but a lot of it is also a well thought out idea on Matt's part. It's fun to watch him get to have fun here at the end doing basically cosmetic stuff. It's nice when a project gets to this point because many of them don't. So grateful that I have been able to watch this and expect this rig to be in every off-road publications once it's complete. Can't wait to see it in action.
A few things were CNC cut, but yeah it's amazing what they did in such a small time window and all that recovery work they do!
Great job guys! Can’t wait to see that thing towing a rig through some obstacles here in a few weeks!
“We are going to need some serious wipers if we are going to be knocking dogs off”.
Love your crew, and content.
That's for when it's raining cats and dogs.
Really enjoying the fact that Tom Tom has become such an integral part of the MORR team! He has a great personality and is an awesome fabricator/engineer for this project. BTW I total agree with your decision not to paint that awesome metal work, was actually hoping you didn't. Just looks so industrial and something you would see in a Mad Max movie! Can't wait to see what it can do.
Tom Tom complements Matt so well. I really enjoy him on the team.
I’d like a shot of clear on it. Even in the desert it will flash rust fast. One thing they shoulda done (I’m way too late, clear back to the frame) is put a shot of oil in each closed boxing before the final weld. If it’s right by the weld, it’ll vaporized and protect the entire section.
I agree. Perhaps he could clear coat it with a satin clear coat.
@@kcreeves199 They send Tom Tom to get all the supplies because he never gets lost.
LIZZY: I sure hope you know how much you are liked on Matts channel. Your rescue work welding and other abilities are so impressive. One of the projects needed should be a rock crawler for you, you look like a truck girl so a rock crater would be a perfect fit. Then again a cool looking short bed four wheel drive would be pretty cool, for one I think you've earned it.😎👍
I seem to remember back when the Golden Nugget was getting it's new engine, the talk was the Donor Truck was going to become Lizzie's Crawler... Mind you, Matt got a Suzuki Samurai for his birthday with similar talk of it's future after playing in Bleepin's one. Too many projects and pesky customer work interrupting?!!
simper no simping
Lizzy is a country gal. She needs a good square body Chevy pickup, With the ability to haul a fifth wheel horse trailer, yet be capable on muddy roads and back country, without the trailer. Basically, a beefed up ranch rig.
She did seem a bit "off" in this last video. Never know what's going on in peoples lives, though. And a Y-Tube vid is not gonna explain it.
Yeah, when does Lizzy get her own rock crawler??!!!
Go Lizzy, Go Lizzy.. Go!
Everyone commenting on Lizzie looking tired or sad, we all have bad days or even tough times in life! At her age she’s going through a lot of personal growth right now! Just a reminder to be thoughtful or mindful that we only see a snippet on TH-cam and have no idea what goes on in there personal life!
Well said! People are so quick to make an assessment, we are only seeing edits of many many hours. That type of work can be exhausting!
That's what I was thinking too reading the comments. I myself have a "unhappy" looking demeanor and people just insist on something is wrong or whatever, my entire life lol. She is not going to have perfect happy days every single day and that's how life works. Whatever it is IF anything she'll sort it, don't need youtube comments therapy. 🙂
Yes, I just hope Matt let's her keep it this time.
@@theuglytruth8162 ? Keep what?
@@dustindownard12809 keep the time for Lizzy itself
Lizzy is really stepping up! The welds are looking perfect, She is ready for fabrication, since she can read your minds
Dude. What planet are you people living in. Look at the welds she put in that rebar. Will all the experience she has you think they’d look better.
3:31 Love Lizzie's confidence in welding ! .. I mean she was always pretty confident in basically everything .. but now, in the videos this year .. it really shows :)
Indeed, once she gets a bit more practice with TIG her weld quality will be outstanding and I think she makes a good role model for young ladies, you don't have to fit the stereotype to be beautiful.
when you guys finally do "finish" the back of the wrecker you should coat the metal with linseed oil like they did back in the day instead of putting color to it, that way it keeps the bare metal look while still offering protection
That would look cool! You can use clear coat powder coat, it would stand up better than linseed oil.
or get Derek from VGG to come in and apply some of his 'shine juice'.
I was just thinking how good it would look clear coated… as is .. people be like “what model wrecker is that??”
Are you going to wax coat the cavities at all?
I think when and if it starts to rust it’s gonna look even better
This was an awesome video Rory, Sean and Merlin making a surprise visit and giving some great advice that Matt gladly took and acted on. Lizzy is an awesome welder and is great at running down parts. Tom is a great asset to Matt's recovery bringing his welding skills and he cut and installed the structure for the seat belts. Looking good for the tow truck trials.
Almost the perfect amount of Merlin time.
Yes, but Rory has so much seat time, that is going hard to beat
You should have put a roll cage in. Safety and looks... Weld a round tube bar instead of the square tube for mounting the seatbelts. Incorporate it with the roll cage. It will look much better!!! I love and enjoy watching the improvements and changes you have done on your wrecker build. Keep up the good work.
when i see lizzy sourcing parts, jaymie driving, colin driving, rhett supporting, lizzy driving, tom makin good ones
i see the power and glory of cross-training
Tom Tom needs his props! He’s done a great job
I agree with Tom’s mom
Tom Tom with the Among us reference 😂 👍
TomTom = Quai Gon Jinn 😜
Agreed he is an unsung hero.
@Josh.x Matt is showing his true colors. Without Tom Matt has no crew left with brains.
Thank you Matt and Tucker for the longer duration video! 30-45 minutes for wrecker work is great.
Didn't Tucker leave?
Hope lizzy is ok, she doesn't seem happy. God bless you guys. Thanks for the great content.
I'd hate to see her leave like everyone else has
Yea she looked miserable on this episode. I hope your ok Lizzy! You are one of the main reasons why I watch you are so talented. Keep your head up and Matt make sure you take care of her.
Yeah Matt look after Lizzie she's one of a kind
There has been a lot going into this build tho too. I mean it takes a lot of effort to build this thing. I bet she’s just fine guys and gals! Tom Tom is an extra brain for the team and I bet Trevor found something closer to home cause he was a bit out of town I believe
I guess it's becoming more and more difficult to work with Matt. I see him snappy if they are not where he asks them to be.
Thanks Lizzie for all your hard work! And wearing the proper helmet while welding unlike MATT🤣
Great video, guys! It was especially good to see Lizzy smile! 💕 It's been awhile.
Matt, Thanks for taking us through the 'gory-details' of design and construction, most TH-camrs think their audience is too superficial to appreciate the realities of design. Your Wrecker build has been epic, can't wait to see it in operation both at the 'Games' and on recoveries.
I love how focused and serious Lizzy is! 😂 I love her! 👍🏼
Pretty sure everybody loves Lizzy. Great attitude and genuinely excited about what she is working on.
Might be fun to have a program where she introduces her fiance.

She doesn't seem to thrilled to be there today, her mind is elsewhere, great job guys looking good.....
For the seat belt attachment mounts,I think a internal roll bar made from tubing would look better and be a useful safety feature .
It would follow the contour of the rear window and the cab structure .
Really enjoyed the "complete set of plans", takes all the guess work out of the build project.
You are surrounded by good people Matt.. this has been great to watch. But the best part for me, is watching the people around you get inspired.
The wreckers coming together nicely! hoping to get our channel as big as yours one day. good work.

I didnt sub !! But good luck on the begging !!
Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives.... Not all things are supposed to be looked into..... I'm sure everyone including Lizzy is fine. Great video guys. And yes, I have wasted a number of brake lines by forgetting the fitting prior to flaring.
I've done both. Leaving the nut off or putting on backward.
I’m excited for not only the completion of this vehicle, but for the modding community to add this to games like Snowrunner haha
Dude you read my mind. I actually built a room strictly to play the game. My wife and daughters think I’m insane.
I'd really like the Wrecker and Morrvair as Bodies for RC crawlers.
will need it in BeamNG
@@MegaSockenschuss A 1/10 Morrvair body would be badass. I’m expecting to see someone use the Power Wagon body as a base for an Off Road Wrecker build as soon as the full size gets finished.

@@georgeorwell126 I'm thinking Lizzy is not going to last.
great work Matt, cant wait to see it under its own power. you guys are a inspiration in building this heavy wrecker from scratch, well done to you and your team
My favorite thing about sundays! Watching the crew hack this wrecker together is top notch entertainment.
I can't wait to see the wrecker in its natural habitat ! Also, i noticed Lizzie seemed unhappy for a while now. Her enthousiasm was one of the reason i was hooked on this channel. I hope everything is ok for you, Lizzie.
Don't overanalyse these things, they're humans who are changeable and were just seeing a tiny snapshot of their lives they decide to show. Who knows what's going on or if she was just hungover that morning, not really our business.
She's leaving MORR soon
Matt I actually really like the rusty look around all the boom area and all the welded in rivets!! I think I would run the wrecker longer out in the weather and let the rust get longer rust runs on all the steel and then definitely do a really heavy coat of clear coat on it!!! That would definitely look sweet for sure!!! Just an idea!!! Awesome video buddy and remember 2nd is always better than 3rd!!! Lol!!
Great video as usual , we all miss Lizzy presence , hope she will get a bigger part in the future . I am wondering what you will do to prevent the mud ( like the last recoveries you did lately ) to splash the windshield directly from these monstruous mud thrower tires up front ?
Keep up the good work guys !
All kind of great things in this video. Peanut should have his on show the way he jumps around it is so comical. Lizzy is a genius with the welder and what a cool helmet. Your work always impresses me. Olympics on the way and almost here. Be safe, healthy and happy. See you all on the next video.
I must say this is about the most amazing rig I've ever seen built. Always things to add as you go or see that you need, but you are going to hit the ground running wide open Matt. Great job team!!
Poor Lizzie just looks so exhausted, shes really giving it the 115%.
Shes got the best welds of the whole team
I am glad that I’m not the only one who sees this...... Lizzie doesn’t look like she feels well or she is very exhausted. Either way, she needs to take care of herself.
They all need to...
Yeah, I saw that. She looks tired.
@@davidcampbell4465 More than tired, she looks ill.

Working with your daughter and sons is the greatest gift a parend would ever have. You're a lucky and ofc great parent!
This a great video of the build. Lizzy is one great welder I wish I could weld as good as her. Love seeing her welding. Watching peanut jump on the window area to get to you was great. You guys are great to watch. Stay safe and have fun.
I think Lizzie deserves her own callender with pictures of her fabrications.😁👍👍

Great idea!
Love the show Matt! What a great crew and entertaining as ever. This wrecker project is insane!
Can't wait to see it perform. Good luck in the olympics!
Cannot wait to see it done and going up over a recovery
Peanut climbing on the hood was so damn cute! Almost as cute as lizzy!
I love seeing Matt check his wrist when referencing time. 😂 I have done this for years and only recently was it pointed out to me that I never wear a watch! Thanks for making sure I’m not the only one, Matt!
Great to see the Wrecker getting closer to the finish line. Great team work on the welding, Lizzy, Tom-Tom and Matt.
Bending the rebar around the top of the shock tower is a great idea! I wondered if you would put the linear strength back into the towers where you cut out space for the shocks. That truck will be a piece of functional welding art when completed. It's obvious that Peanut loves you too, Matt.
I love the collaboration on this episode, I'm only 5 minutes and 20 seconds in and I've already seen Rori, Merlin and Paul, love it! The bit about trophies was a really good jump in edit, whatever it's called. It feels better placed than when they just say I approve this message or I totally agree... although those are enjoyable too 🙂. Anyway back to the video.
I agree, I laughed at the cut.
That fact that those "I agree" cuts are so out of place is exactly what makes them so funny!🤣
It is great to see the love that Matt has for his Dogs.
Loved the editing and special effects in this vid! So exciting seeing the wrecker in it’s final stages of assembly!!!
WOW!! This is a great video!!! With Merlin & Rory stopping by to see how everything is going & to give feedback. Matt, you really do have a great group of people working for you & great friends.
Paul and Ben said they were going to be running air lines. Southwest needs all the help they can get!
Kudos to the film and editing crew. Nicely done with "stand-in😉" inserts and content! Best episode yet of the wrecker build.👍
I love how Matt is trolling the know-it-all's with the claw hammer... brilliant!
Brilliant! Thank you Matt and crew for shielding most of the welding arc flash. Makes for much more pleasant viewing. Good stuff!
I love how Lizzie is just one of the crew. I show her as an example of a good and hard worker to my daughters - to show how she is crew! Love how you treat and respect her.
Why wouldn't she be?
@@stargazer7644 I agree with your sentiment - of course why wouldn't she be? But, she wouldn't be if she worked with more patriarchal, antiquated thinking people. Sexism and the like is not something that people can hide in this format given the long-running and mostly off-the-cuff production and filming. I just want to call out greatness - even if it is exactly how it should be.
Great! Almost 40 min of wrecker work, and it feels like 10. Love the no paint approach. Can´t wait to see what this machine can to out in the terrain, but even before the unavoidable adjustments to come I think it will be pretty capable!

Really great original content! Love the steady updates. Love the rebar edge guards. Think I would lay a welding blanket on those synthetic winch ropes and over the cab glass. SOOO COOL!!
You were joking about your build plans on the whiteboard, but I have to say, before I came across your channel I didn't know that people could build actual vehicles. Maybe that sounds stupid, but it had never occurred to me before. I somehow thought only factories could make them. Totally appreciate the inspiration.

Ed is an inspiration for me as a young male. You got to keep moving and you're never to old to work. Ed is always quick to help out.
Good to see a portable vise for the wrecker. I had one on a log truck for fixing hydraulic hoses and such. Good to see it all coming together.
Matt, Like every big, complex, unique, one off project ever dreamed into existence and built by an eyeball engineer, the details take forever, often being changed and rebuilt several times as the machine evolves...90% done, 90% to go..... You are now at the stage where you start considering the advice of others....I have only one suggestion. The drivers seat...... If you ever hope to drive it very far, you need more room.... Simple to get another 4" of leg room. Hell, two more inches would help a lot. Your head is about 8" from the back window... Two inches is plenty, with a nice headrest. Likely running out of time to go full custom, like I have done a couple times on/in Experimental Aircraft. Later, no problem... There are affordable, commercial bolt in options that will give 3-4 inches of legroom. Some boat seats come to mind....... Yes, it almost looks like you have enough room, when you pose in the seat, sitting straight up, pushed back, with your belly sucked in to keep it off the steering wheel, but comfortable?.... It reminds me of the proverbial "monkey humpin' a football"...... 4 more inches legroom would make that disturbing image fade away. This would be the easiest fix of all the recent change. My 02c worth. That truck will be amazing. With that clearance and low cg, it should out most crawlers, climb big obstacles, and retrieve the previously impossible....Cheers, ...JE
That edit of the wrecker becoming self aware was the greatest segment of all time!
Love to see how the wrecker is coming along!
24:00 If you ever want to preserve something off of a markerboard, put packing tape (or maybe a sheet of laminating plastic) over the drawing, overlapping the edges a little and you can peel the entire sheet of tape off and then stick it to a piece of cardboard. It wont look any different than if you drew it on the cardboard in the first place, and then covered it with tape! it works especially well for smaller things that a single width of tape can cover.
Or just snap a photo.
Wow it's REALLY coming together now.. and looking great !! Can't wait to see it in action. You have to let Lizzy drive it too ! She's done so much work on it.
It makes me a bit jealous watching all the building and 4x4 the trails. When you're broken and you can't do the regular work or even go play like you do on the trails like you do. So, you live vicariously through others, like you. So thanks
Matt and crew, first of all mad love to you all for the content you create you are a tight knit crew that works well together, too cool! Word of warning however: If you don’t have this beast of a wrecker up and running for the wrecker “not Olympics” competition I will limp my rickety F-150 all the way out there from Kansas just to kick your collective butts! This thing is going to be a monster baby! Can’t wait to see it doing it’s first rescue folks
All these comments about Lizzy, I think the answer is simple, she is no longer a teen, married ,full time job, household etc. it’s called life and adulthood. And sometimes it sucks, but I have confidence that she’ll find the right balance. Adulthood started for me pretty early and even earlier for my parents , but it seems to be delayed for most young people today and Lizzy maybe the exception. Hope she powers through 👍
Give Lizzie another year and she's gonna be the best welder in the state. She has such a steady hand.
Have you saw those welds? She been welding for couple years allready. She is lacking for sure.

I like TomTom's Miller weld helmet. I have a similar helmet made by Weld Guard, and it has helped my welding considerably. It has a super large view window. Shade is controllable from 5 to 13. It has four sensors so reacts instantly regardless of angle. The grind setting button is super easy to reach (without having to look). It is super light, and has a cool steampunk design on it. It cost me NZ$256, but has by far the best spec for the price I could find.
