    Hydrogen FCEVs are really just electric cars with a hugely inefficient mechanism for refuelling them. BEVs are safer, have an existing charging network and can typically be charged at home from solar.
    Hydrogen ICE cars are even more inefficient, noisy, still cause Nitrous oxide pollution, have gazillions of moving parts, etc etc.
    Why use hydrogen?

    With the cost of hydrogen at roughly $16 a gallon equivalency to gasoline it’s hard to justify a hydrogen card

      Hydrogen cost will be more like $30 a gallon and its output is 1/3 of gasoline which wil make it more like $100 a gallon. And if we cut gasoline use the price of gas wil PLUMMET and could actually PAY PEOPLE to fill er up which they DID under covid when gas use was cut by only 10%
      Hydrogen is produced by COAL
      The OUT PUT is WATER VAPOR which is the NUMBER ONE GREENHOUSE GAS
      and wil increase FLOODING, CLOUDS which will KILL SOLAR POWER GENERATION and cut wind energy
      WOW-GENIUS!

      That's without grotesque subsidies from gvt. If you get gvt to actually subsidise hydrogen in the same way they do with electric then that price is easily half that. Add to the fact that the gvt truly believes the climate is in danger due to car usage then no price is too much to solve the problem so it proves something is not right. All the money wasted on batteries, and solar power would have allowed for super cheap hydrogen production. Ask yourself. Since the early nineties car manufacturers were planning for hydrogen yet for some strange reason they got no grants, tax breaks, free parking for their cars. California has had the murai since mid 2000's yet only 54 hydrogen filling stations were built. Why? I know exactly why.. when you realise why then it begins to make sense.

      @@331SVTCobra Remember 90% of the Universe is made of hydrogen, there are two atoms of Hydrogen in each molecule of water, not counting all the hydrocarbons and carbohydrates. It is a scale and engineering problem, cost will be higher for now but if you consider the unlimited supply it is a good idea to pursuit.

      It is a 'theoretical' unlimited supply. Practically, the supply is zero.There is no free hydrogen on planet Earth. You have to produce it. To make it. And this involves all kinds of processes that need a lot of resources. Depending on how you want to make it, you need human resources, financial resources, etc etc ... just like producing any other goods in the economy.

      My next door neighbor "fills" up his Tesla with his solar (also unlimited supply and "free") charging station in his garage for.......$0.00! Of course he did have to install the solar system, but he did it himself for less than I pay for gasoline in a year.

    The cars are easy enough to build but the hydrogen is the challenge. Some hydrogen is actually refined from petroleum and that is expensive and dirty. But some is separated from water using electricity but it takes a lot of electricity so that is also expensive. I have been reading about new technology for that and this will be the key to making these cars viable.

      Almost all hydrogen commercially produced is made from petroleum which is why the oil companies like it. Then compare the amount of energy lost in producing hydrogen and then producing electricity with the fuel cell. It looks like a dead end technology.

      Actually, if your country has nuclear power plants, they can easily produce more hydrogen that is ever needed. So you convert your coal plants to nuclear and your gas burning cars to hydrogen and you get a win win.

    It's a non starter unless they get the suppliers in place. Cousin had a Mirai and there were only two stations within thirty miles in Southern California. Great car, no way to go far like regular cars.

      It is still interesting. EVs have the same problem with fuel and apparently they tend to burst into flame. H2 should be able to be fairly easily added to the existing infrastructure without causing brown/black-outs.

    I am a fan of alternative fuels. The issue with hydrogen is currently the fueling stations cost 1,000,000.00 per pump. Not the full station its per pump. Currently impractical.

      I agree with your comment but given time the price will eventually come down to where everybody can afford it. Take calculators for example. When they first came out they were around $50 and that was back in the 1960s when $50 meant something. Nowadays, your phone has a calculator and even if you do go and buy one they are what….5 or 10 bucks?

      JCB has developed their machines to use H2. Airplanes can use this fuel. The problem is compressing, storing and transport this fuel. Having a "fuelstation" at home is solving some problems.

      Unfortunately I think you’ll find hydrogen fuel cells require rare metals such as iridium which makes stuff like lithium look like a walk in the park.

      They see the handwriting on the wall. Oil is a finite resource. Experts say that at current usage (that's CURRENT usage, and we are increasing usage all the time), we could be OUT of oil within the lifetimes of some alive today. We need alternatives. Period. Or we go back to horse and buggy.

    There is not enough Platinum available for fuel cell based mobility as we have it now. Max 10% of cars can be equiped with it.

      In order to extract hydrogen it takes a lot of electricity. This is why in the past it has never been seriously considered. . Plus it is extremely explosive. For some reason people are prepared to turn a blind eye to facts these days.

    Honda had Clarity hydrogen EVs for years. They just dumped the Clarity line (PHEV, EV & Hydrogen) a couple of years ago. They couldn't make it work. How is this different?

      @@JamesW225 just because Toyotas is putting their money on it doesn’t mean it’s a good investment. Just look at GM’s hydrogen truck deal with “Nikola motors”. They gave them $2 billion for only 11% steak. For a literal scam. Their add about the “hydrogen truck of the future” had to be rolled down a hill to make it look like it was being driven.
      Or look at the billions invested into Theranos almost a billion dollars of investments. For litterally nothing but a scam.

      @@JamesW225 and what do you say about the legacy auto makers that pulled out of hydrogen? They certainly don’t want to put their money there anymore and have gone to battery instead.
      Or even Toyota themselves. They have, what? Only 1 hydrogen car on sale? The Mirai? And it’s only been the one hydrogen model since 2014, no other models hitting the market, barely any advancement made in the technology. Meanwhile, Toyota, the very same company, announced 10 new battery electric models to hit the market before 2026! That’s literally 10 times as many battery electric cars models invested, than hydrogen cars invested in, a 10 times shorter timespan.
      Sure, they’re definately putting their money where their mouth is. ‘rolls eyes’

    I am a firm believer that hydrogen power it’s production and usage surface has not been scratched, look at how the battery production, life span has changed in the last ten year, the same has to happen with hydrogen production. Like all things it takes time and determination.

      we already have the means to produce hydrogen in mass quantities, through multiple means green and through the petrol industry... hydrogen is the best balance between reducing emissions and not destroying peoples lives... like the petrol industry will just have to shift to more hydrogen production.
      one of the really cool things about hydrogen is most commercial planes can actually run on hydrogen fuel with very little modifications like they just have to put in either pressurized tanks or cryogenic tanks and change the air fuel ratio for ignition.

      Hydrogen isn’t so green and production is very limited for example green hydrogen is still expansive, is produced in very low quantities compared to grey hydrogen which is very dirty and the lack of infrastructure, demand compared to gas and electric cars dose have the edge while it’s still experimental stage of completely replacing fossil fuel production 😂😂😂

      @@TgamerBio5529 hydrogen produced through the petrol industry is chemically no different then the electrolized hydrogen... on the molecular scale they are exact duplicates the only difference is you greenies have decided to shame one with a dark name because of the production method... like its kinda funny how much your "hydrogen spectrum" is holding up progress of this field.
      also hydrogen is about as "green" as it comes... the only exhaust gasses it produces when burned is NOx which every other combustible also produces and we can fine tune these levels through innovation, plus if you go the fuel cell route you end up with absolutely 0% NOx
      that's magnitudes cleaner then your EV's which are powered off the power grid... which if you weren't aware is powered mainly by fossil fuels... the massive battery packs in your EV's are also produced very very dirty like if hydrogen produced from hydrocarbons is grey your EV battery production would be like the blackest black in existence.

    Interesting idea, but where do you fill it up? Zero emission like EV's, but how much pollution is generated making the hydrogen and this car? What is the total cost to own and recycling of components? How do the hydrogen tanks hold up in a collision? I think I'll wait for my Mr. Fusion powered DeLorean.

    No new hydrogen production plants, no mass building of hydrogen fueling stations, no mass building of hydrogen refueling trucks, cost of hydrogen is equivalent to $16/gallon gasoline (is there cheaper hydrogen now or in the near future?), and hydrogen gets about half the mileage of EVs per kWh due to losses in energy all the way from production of hydrogen to converting hydrogen back to electricity.
    I'm having trouble seeing this hydrogen car even making it to production, let alone dominating sales.

      @@nisar24 With the expected major advances in battery tech towards multiple times the energy density and a fraction of the time to charge, hydrogen would need to do something spectacular to get back in the race.
      The only place I see hydrogen having a place is in extremely remote areas cut off from electricity sources, where fuel has to be shipped in by truck.
      With the inherent energy losses when converting from electricity to hydrogen, storage, transportation, and converting back to electricity, it's hard to see how hydrogen can win the price battle assuming battery prices can be slashed.

      @@twostate7822 Mining for lithium and cobalt are not a win over fossil fuels. Electricity generation via wind and solar are unreliable and have destoyed the beauty of flyover country. Hydrogen will prevail, if people are actually serious about caring for the environment.

      All of the car companies can pool resources to build H2-filling stations, just like Tesla built-out its Supercharging network. The governments from various countries will also give additional grants and subsidies for H2 infrastructures as well.
      Lithium ion battery has 350 Wh per liter and 180 Wh per kg at pack level, whereas H2 at 700 bar has 1,400 Wh per liter and 1,800 Wh per kg. Yet, the Tesla Model Y and 3 have plenty of internal space, even more than equivalent gas cars. Just imagine that!. Green H2 is projected to cost around $1.5 USD in 2020 value.

      Sounds enticing? Research maintenance of hydrogen vehicles. 😉 Requirements to the quality of air filters to be used, specialized requirements for the service centers, etc. And why waste electricity to produce hydrogen? Then instead to fuel/charging in your garage or parking at work, or while shopping? Battery Electric is the only way to go.

      @unxusr EV are absolutely useless for long trips, so they are completely off the menu. Currently, HV's are off as well because I'm not mapping out my traveling to locate hydrogen refueling locations. Guess it's just gasoline and/or diesel for me.

    So, let me get this straight. We're going to use electricity to split fresh, drinkable water into hydrogen and oxygen. Then we are going to use electricity, again, to compress hydrogen into a practical volume. Then we are going to use some fuel or again, electricity, to transport and distribute hydrogen to numerous sites, all the while using electricity to maintain the pressurized hydrogen, which will then be used to power internal combustion engines, which are around 25% efficient. And the cherry on the cake of this plan is that I can once again be held hostage by some corporations who produce and own the hydrogen fuel. Sounds great! But, instead, I think I will just continue to use my electric vehicle, which I can power, along with my house, with electricity produced by the PV system I already own. NO THANK YOU.

    There's no hydrogen infrastructure set up in many countries, so this will sell well in Japan but not in Europe or the US eg where petrol (aka gas) stations aren't kitted out to store hydrogen fuel.

      It's taken 10 years for battery infrastructure to get where it is, and its still useless in large countries with long distances and city streets that don't have off street parking. Hydrogen infrastructure can be put at every current service station in place of the LPG systems.

      @jjbee9229 Yes, but you have to replace all the pipes with safer ones, and governments have shyed away from these costs. Also, hydrogen fuel is much less efficient than BEV. That's currently one of the main arguments against for cars. The UK government only intends to build hydrogen infrastructure for Articulated vehicles (commercial haulage) to avoid the costs of petrol station conversion. Many countries will do the same, especially now solid state batteries are in Toyota cars already (700 miles range). Diamond batteries will be even better. So currently, BEV is looking much more likely to be the dominant electric vehicle.

      Definitely this is the future, (green hydrogen derived ) liquid methanol fuel to fuel methanol fuel cell (and then electric motor without battery with way longer range and "rechargable" by refueling liquid methanol in just a minute just like any diesel engine. This is the future, better than "normal hydrogen" because methanol is a liquid fuel directly and easy derived from green hydrogen and way better usable than hydrogen because no need compression pressure storage and or ultra low temperature needed. Methanol liquid room temperature fuel is just a drop replacements in any gas station with little modification and same happens even with combustion engine but obviously fuel cell Ev gives more efficiency .

Hydrogen as a fuel is so much more environmentally friendly than batteries as their only byproduct is water compared to batteries which will end up in landfills and will pose some numerous great threats in and around the enviroment they're in. Of course there aren't as many hydrogen refueling stations as charging stations currently but there will be and even more.

      @@YDGFX I do know what I am talking about. Hydrogen production may become free as it is a byproduct of flash graphene production. It still has to be compressed and stored and transported. That is energy intensive. Again and again? They sold 3,900 vehicles last year. Worldwide there are a little over 800 filling stations. A bus and part of a filling station were destroyed in July (California). Static electricity can easily ignite hydrogen. Servicing H2 vehicles requires a great deal of expertise and safety systems are essential. It's not for no reason that the big miners have tried and rejected H2 as a fuel source. Maybe one day. But who knows how far EV's will have progressed by then? And H2 will always be inherently explosive.

    My only observation driving behind one of these this last year is that they splat water under your car if you’re following them. I was pretty far back, and my wipers kept going off. I could think of a dozen ways to get rid of water without having it just drip out the back. Once in a while, we see these in town. Just like the EV cars. The initial infrastructure to keep them going is a long ways away.

    Back around 1980 or so, an inspector from Contra Costa county California stopped by our place in Knightsen, CA. He was driving a Chrysler sedan, one of those “K” cars if I’m not mistaken. It was powered by hydrogen. Probably not the most efficient as they were running a conversion on the internal combustion engine similar to a propane conversion kit. Of course the only fuel point was back in the yard the vehicle was issued from, and the tanks filled the trunk space. I thought it was very cool though.

    It's a non-starter until H2 is available at the corner filling station at a competitive cost to gasoline and diesel. The H2 would have to be produced with green technology or the exercise is pointless.

      Yeah, the idea of hydrogen at this stage of the game is absolutely comical. No one is sinking billions of dollars into hydrogen vehicle manufacturing without global scale hydrogen production and distribution.
      And no one is sinking billions of dollars into global hydrogen production and distribution until there are enough hydrogen vehicles in people’s garages.
      By the time that happens (decades), EVs will be half the cost they are today, twice the range, and the global charging network will be bigger than today’s fueling infrastructure. I plug my EV in at night, and if I need to, there are half a dozen fast charging stations within a 20 minute radius. One of them less than 5 minutes away.
      Toyota might as well invent DVDs in 2023, they’d have a better chance of success.

      @@wonmoreminute it’s comical to the point when everyone driving an EV is sitting in a hurricane evacuation and there’s no power to charge their cars. It’s comical when everyone comes to the realization that lithium is finite and not very green to mine it. It’s comical when all one has to do is lookup what Exxon, just for one, is up to with hydrogen production. Comical to think that technology exists now that allows hydrogen production on site. It’ll be really comical when somebody realizes that to get electricity a fuel source is needed to produce that electricity. Imagine how comical it will be when flat screen TVs will be invented that you can hang on your wall. Oh wait that was 20-30 years ago. To think those used to cost $12000 for a 29 inch model. It’s very comical indeed. Hydrogen will be the only answer in time. Hopefully we have enough lithium batteries left to be able to make use of it.

    Have you guys explored developing a hydrogen tank exchange program? Design the car so that the tanks can be easily replaced with a full tank by the car owner. Use this technique instead of trying to require huge investment in many fuel stations. Only need a few stations that have exchange tanks. The business can refill the empty tanks for exchange.

    Hydrogen is very easy to produce right at the carburetor level, The trick is they vibrate the water (not oscillate, big dif!!), whether it be salt water or clear just a different filter system. Anyway , just so you understand in very basic tech, The center of a magnet is referred to as the "B" field (or Nutron), When you vibrate the water with the "B" field the water will separate the Oxy and Hydrogen at any rate you need to power your engine. LET's be crystal clear we are talking about a Sawtooth vibration at the correct frequency and were good.

    Yrs. Ago I converted one of my taxis to propane. Burns clean - was low cost & engines lasted much longer. One huge problem - same problem with EV’s - not enough places to fill up & most available stations are not in convenient location. If ur going out of town what happens if the one & only station is out of fuel ???
    Apparently 20-30% of electric charging stations are broken or vandalized or work at snail pace. Government officials keep saying “build electric & buy electric but do nothing to properly build network of reliable charging stations in Convenient locations.
    Just like government to do things ass backwards !
    Btw - have never even seen a hydrogen filling STN.

    Students in Switzerland have recently built an EV that reaches 100 KPH in just under a second. That’s more or less instantaneous. And in Holland, students have built an EV off-roader that has covered nearly 1000 K s across North African deserts, powered only by sunlight. The end of EV’s ?.......I don’t think so somehow

    Molecular hydrogen can react with many elements and compounds, but at room temperature the reaction rates are usually so low as to be negligible.     Hydrogen is promising for sure however, I'll be buying 2-3 cars in the next year as I have a large family and none of them will be EVs. The harsh truth is that the combustion engine is far, far more efficient and convenient than anything available today or a decade from now.

      no,. electric cars are much more efficient energy wise. they get about 100 mpg equivalent . electricity is much cheaper. my brother bought a BMW and it costs hime 80 bucks a month for charging vs his previous vehicle which cost him 600 a month as it was a jeep with a supercharged 426 hemi. he has a heavy foot .and just bought a used tesla plaid because it's about the fastest car you can get.

      I love my Toyota Tundra. Paid cash for it 9 yrs ago as a Demo. It’s still like new, and I’m a maintenance freak. If someone wants to give me an EV truck, I’d take it. If not, then I’ll keep what I have. All new vehicles are way overpriced.

      Bottom line is hydrogen is promising especially when tied to nuclear. Future battery technology is also promising, again when tied to nuclear so you can build a grid powerful enough to support the additional drain. And there are even other technologies not yet even being discussed. One or all of these will eventually be advanced enough to actually replace ICE engines, but nothing is there yet. The key is not to stop trying, but also don't artificially force the change over before it is ready. When a new technology is actually a better solution it will be adopted because it will make sense. Today some people's life styles are perfectly with BEVs, they should buy them and use them. For others it isn't so don't try to force them because it is right for you. Instead of telling people don't waste your time working on or discussing other technology because I know the right answer isn't only foolish, but defies logic and scientific methods. Debate, discussion and even arguing all helps technology advance, but using laws to force technology on people created resentment not solutions.

    As we speak, all supplies of hydrogen filling stations has been closed in our country due to poor demand, leaving current hydrogen car owners with virtually useless/worthless cars. Only option is to export them to Germany, where hydrogen is still availble in some cities.

    My work just switched to hydrogen batteries. They do not work as well as the batteries that we used to have. They need to be filled more often and using the equipment in the freezers is a pain also. If they go down in the freezer, maintenence has to be called immediately and it has to be towed out before the battery freezes.

    This starts off as a advertisement, but the last part does mention why hydrogen is currently not practical. A needed correction is that lithium supplies are increasing. But hydrogen recharging infrastructure in some counties is shrinking (or disappearing in the case of Denmark.) Within the next year the first cars with sodium ion batteries should be rolling off the assembly lines in China. And we have oceans full of sodium chloride.

      Compressors pump the hydrogen into pressure tanks.
      And within a year parking in the open, you might get enough hydrogen for a couple of hundred miles.
      An efficient system might give you 30 grams of hydrogen at an average day from 2 m² of solar (depending on the site).
      Which might give you 2 miles range with a FCEV or 1 mile with an ICE powered car.

    In chemistry back in the early 1960s, the teacher was waving a short "Coke" bottle around with a bunsen burner flaming away, and accidently (wink, wink) got the mouth of the "Coke" bottom close to the flame and "BOOOM"..     The only trouble is, it’s extremely dangerous. There’s no infrastructure in place as of yet nor is there any plans for it looks to me like it’s going to be extremely inconvenient even if it is fuel efficient. Toyota will want a lot of money want a lot of money for the car.

    Hydrogen might be the most abundant element we have on earth but it takes a lot of energy to get that element on its own, and it will only be good for the air around us if it is captured by green energy. At this time of writing is far to expensive not only make but also for service stations to store, so battery defiantly for light vehicles and in the future Hydrogen for heavy vehicles

      The idiots that built hydrogen stations in the UK all lost a lot of money. They are closing as there is almost no customers. Hydrogen as an automotive fuel was always a non starter. To expensive, the car is to expensive, the refill station is way to expensive. The manufacturing of Hydrogen is most done by fossil fuels and is to expensive and inefficient. Toyota in a few years will be a “Little” car company made up with what’s left and that’s with a huge and wasteful bailout by the Japanese government

    This documentary highlights its great benefits!
    But points out it's major problems. A lot more development is needed before this concept can be widespread and useful.
    Yes, I do want to see that happen. Human civilization needs to massively migration away from fossil fuels as soon as realistically possible.

    There are 1.25 billion cars in the world. If all of those need a giant, heavy battery and 1 percent of those need fast charging at a given moment, that means 12.5 million cars fast charging. If the power is 300 kW, that means a peak power requirement of 12.5E6 x 300E3 = 1.25E7 x 3E5 = 3.75E12, i.e. 3750 GW!!! That corresponds to over 3000 nuclear reactors.

    This is interesting as commercial power plant turbines generate H2 as a by product the power company has to "pay" to get rid of. There are other petrochemical plants that also produce H2 as a by product. Seems to me it would be a win-win for them to sell the H2.

      ​@@markfox1545 Are you the bicycle builder/ repair dude from my boyhood days ? Anyway, Oxygen cannot exist as a single atom, therefore it is written as O2. The same for Hydrogen -- H2. Now take two H2 and combine them chemically with two O2 and you get hydrogen peroxide, which is strangely a germ killing disinfectant. I doubt there are conventional power plants having hydrogen as a by-product. It requires a substantial amount of energy to split a water molecule. And water by itself doesn't conduct electricity very well, so salt, either NaCl or some other salt, will increase its conductivity. Therefore, H2 gas plants could be built off shore, in the ocean, powered by the wind. Gas could be liquified, like they do for rocket fuel, sold as car or truck fuel. We are in the infant stages of going to hydrogen as fuel for all sorts of things, but there doesn't have to be any CO2 to go into the atmosphere as pollution. Cows, animals, people will provide enough CO2 to provide for plant photosenthisis.

Ozone is chemically written as O3 and is fairly unstable by itself -- would rather become O2, or marry a pair of H2 and become water. There is also another form of water the Germans were trying to concentrate back in the '40s, to build a hydrogen bomb. This molecule H3O was known as "heavy" water. I don't think it exists very well by itself, if at all.

    Hydrogen cars are EVs powered by a very complicated generator instead of a battery.
    Although hydrogen production is very low compared to the input,if it is done with excess clean energy there are good applications for it.
    The rapid improvement in batteries and their decreasing cost puts BEVs way out in front for most applications.

    Sounds promising but a few questions. How long does it take to refill the tank? (Although there may be few refueling stations so far this can be overcome). How often do the hydrogen tanks need to be replaced? (With cars which have the LPG option the tank needs to be replaced every 10 years but the dealer rarely emphasizes this point). Many garages disallow entry to LPG cars (EV cars - ha ha) but will it apply to hydrogen cars.

      Refueling stations aren't the only problem, although their cost in relation to traditional gas stations or EV charging is astronomical. Handling and producing (usually in a seriously carbon-producing manner) hydrogen fuel is highly problematic. Hydrogen may have certain uses, but its practicality as a motor fuel has been demonstrated.... NOT TO EXIST.

      Hydrogen much smart been using in forklifts for a while. Refuel under 5 min. Much easier to add hydrogen fill spots to existing gas stations then to update the entire us grid for ev that takes 30 min to an hour to charge

      These cars have been sold by Toyota since 2014. Only 21,500 units sold world wide in that time. Also, hydrogen is very expensive in comparison to gas or BEVs. Producing hydrogen from water cuts the efficiency by about a third compared to just putting the electricity into an EV battery. Not real great.

      @@1diggers1 producing hydrogen from water which is called electrolysis is about 70% efficient then compression to 10,000 psi loses 10% and the fuel cell is about 70% efficient with another 10% lost in buffering through battery giving around 18% of the electric motor. Simply putting that power into a battery electric vehicle yields over 90% of the wheels making it 4 1/2 times more cost effective to simply power up a battery electric vehicle. The hydrogen vehicle also suffers from massive amounts of upfront hardware, costs, and maintenance hydrogen is extremely difficult to handle.
      Big advantage of a battery electric vehicle is you will charge it at home over 99% of the time which will save you a lot of time compared to a gas vehicle in a ton of time compared to a Hydrogen vehicle

      Hydrogen is generally pretty hostile to tank material - it is the smallest molecule and is very hard to contain within a tank : the tanks have to be very thick and very precision machining /engineered. in the petroleum industry that I have worked on inspections were carried out on all pressure vessels where hydrogen or closely related molecules were found - the rate of corrosion and delaminating some vessels with the process was not maintained consistently was huge - a little different from pure hydrogen I grant you

    Simple solution: use NH3 Ammonia as principle medium in cars which has highervenetgy density and no cooling cost as comparef to H2.
    To use NH3 just split off N and use H2 .

    Other possible concerns are the availability of the needed fuel cell catalysts, and issues of degrading of the catalysts, and the cost of replacing fuel cell packs. There seems to be no perfect system. EVs are said to be 5% as likely to catch fire as ICE, I wonder how hydrogen cars compare.

      small nuclear powerplants is the only way to go, no refuelling complete independance from any infrastructure required for charging or refueling but would you drive a nuclear powered vechicle?

      Fires probably won't be the major risk with hydrogen, mishandling of the fuel filling points will, due to the huge pressures involved...
